"D-damn!" Annabeth cursed quietly while untangling herself from Percy's grip, her face hot. Thank goodness nothing had happened last night that could've led to something, well, bad. Let's just put it as that. While doing so, Percy started waking up as well.
"Morning already?" Percy rubbed the side of his face with the back of his hand, wiping some drool. Then he noticed what was happening "Oh." His face flushed into a shade of pink.
Annabeth and Percy instantly moved away from each other, while Percy nearly screamed and fell off. "SORRY! I mean- Sorry."
She winced from the loudness. "Just- shush! Someone might here you!" Annabeth sprung out of bed and urged Percy into the closet, attempting to hide him. Percy tried to protest, but the noises of returning footsteps could be heard echoing through the halls, getting closer with each second.
"Mphh-!" Percy's muffled words could be heard from a mile away, which didn't help anything at all.
Annabeth had just successfully shoved Percy into the spacious closet just as one of the maids opened the door. She spun around in a 180 degree action, meeting herself a few feet away from Dana.
"Oh, you're up? I didn't think you'd be awake already." Dana said. She was holding a tray in front of her, a glass of water sitting on top. "i could've sworn that I just heard something in here."
"Uh huh! Sure! I just wanted to start my day off early, you know?" Annabeth laughed nervously. "You didn't happen to be here a while ago, did you?"
"No," Dana replied. "But I did see Elizabeth come here. She had the weirdest grin on her face," She recalled.
Annabeth clenched her jaw hard and bit back a scream. Elizabeth didn't think anything was going on between them, right? Probably. Hopefully. Okay, Annabeth was two seconds away from getting on her knees and ending everything right there and then.
"Okay. Well, thanks for the water." Annabeth said casually, as if she wasn't having a mental breakdown. She walked towards Dana and held the glass of water in her hand, glancing back at the closet. No strange sounds came from it. A good sign, and fortunately Percy decided to keep his huge mouth shut for once.
"Also, I didn't see Prince Perseus exit your room last night. I was up pretty late cleaning last night, so did you see him leave?"
"Yup! Maybe you just didn't happen to see him."
"...Okay." She said warily. "A meeting will take place at the Palace today, at eight thirty A.M sharp. Don't forget!"
Dana took one last suspicious look at Annabeth, eyeing her down intensely. She did not need these levels of stress this early. She shakily took a sip of water, enjoying how refreshed it made her feel.
'What a FANTASTIC way to start off the day!' Annabeth giddily thought internally. (Note the sarcasm)
When Dana left Annbaeth heard the closet door creak open, and saw Percy stumbling out. He had a horrible case of bed head, and a dazed look on his face. For a quarter of a second Annabeth thought he looked cute like this, but slapped herself at the thought.
"Did you just slap yourself?" Percy asked.
"Ignore that. On other terms, This is bad. Really bad," Annbeth said. She paced back and forrth, making no one entered the room. "You need to get out! One of them already knows your here!"
"Alright, alright! I'll leave when they're gone." Percy huffed stubbornly, placing himself on a chair as he eyed Annabeth's room. She took the chance to consult Elizabeth on the topic of what she just witnessed. Annabeth walked around, soon finding her leaning on the kitchen counter, laughing at something on her phone. Annabeth suspected it was the picture from earlier this moring.
"Hey, Elizabeth!" Annabeth said happily, trying to hide her murderous attitude. "What'cha got there?"
"Nothing!" She giggled and hid her phone behind her back.
Quickly, Annabeth snatched Elizabeth's phone and looked at what it had on the glowing screen. And there it was, a crystal clear picture of Percy and Annabeth half asleep while cuddling. Annabeth scrolled down in her gallery and saw a few more pictures.
"I knew it!" Annabeth gasped, covering a blush on her face.
"Sorry... I couldn't help it! You two are just so adorable together!" Elizabeth carried out the R in together. "Do I have to delete it?"
"Yes." Annabeth replied.
"No." Elizabeth huffed.
"Yes."
"Yes."
"No- Hey!" Annabeth gasped, putting an extaggerated hand on her heart. "Fine, i'll do it myself-" Annabeth started to delete one of them, but before that happened Elizabeth grabbed her phone back.
She pleaded. "Please, pretty please? I swear I will not tell anyone. I promise, on the kingdom." Her hands clasped together in a begging motion. Annbeth had established some trust with the maids, including Elizabeth. She trusted her to keep every promise she made, especially this one. The ordeal was getting out of hand anyways. If Annabeth managed to mess up any more, she would have to force percy into eliminating her. Not that she minded that, but still... A part of her wanted to stay. Not that she would ever admit to that. To anyone.
"Just this once." Annabeth finally gave in. Well, whats the worst that could happen? She took a glance at Elizabeth before turning to her room. "And you better keep your word."
"Y-yes! Of course!" Elizabeth stammered giddily before tending back to her responsiblilities.
Back at her room, Percy looked at a couple of the pictures that were on Annabeth's desk. One of them showed a younger, happier Annabeth, before she had met Percy. She was on top of Thalia's shoulders, and a guy with bright blond hair beside them. He had blue eyes and a long scar on his eye, making him seem intimidating.
Percy had saw this picture a couple of times, and he only knew Thalia and Annabeth. So who was the other guy? A few occasions, Percy asked Annabeth about him. She always never replied and almost always changed the subject.
He clutched the picture harder. It was fine really, he didn't want to intrude Annabeth's privacy. Even still, the curiosity got to the best of him.
Percy held the picture in his hands staring at it intently. He heard footsteps outside the door, so he got down under the bed in an attempt to hide. Annabeth swung the door open and smirked.
"What are you doing?" She laughed loudly. The sight of him was pretty laughable- The honorable Prince of the kingdom. Trying to shove himself under a bed.
"I thought you were one of the maids!" He said, shocked.
"Of course you did." Annabeth pointed outside the door, into the hallway. "They're gone now, so take this chance to leave!" She whisper shouted.
Percy nodded, sprinting out the door in a flash. He looked back at Annabeth and flashed a smug smirk.
"By the way, you're a great cuddler. We should do this more often!" He said. And then he was gone, no traces of him left. Annabeth mouth went agape and her face went slack with shock.
Annabeth slammed her door shut hastily, her back sliding on the door as she slid closer to the floor. She ran a hand through her tangled curls.
'Did he seriously mean that?' Annabeth chuckled to herself. What the hell had just happened?
She spent the rest of the morning still hazy about what happened. It felt like some sort of fever dream, like it never even happened. Annabeth had to pinch herself a couple times to make sure she was in fact, awake.
The maids must have noticed it too. Julia was the first to speak up.
"You good, Annabeth? You look a bit pale."
"Oh, do I?" Annbaeth said staring at nothing in paticular. She took a small bite of her lunch, some salad and whole wheat bread.
"Yeah... Are you sick? In that case, I'll tell Ms. Usoro you can't make it too the-" Annabeth cut Julia off mid speech.
"No!" Annabeth waved her hands in front of the girls face. "I'm just a little out of it right now."
"I'm sure, after what happened this morning~!" Elizabeth said quietly. Not quiet enough, because Dana overheard.
Dana peeked over from another room. "After what happened this morning?"
"Nothing. Just ignore her." Annbaeth said casually. She shot Elizabeth a look, and stood up quick. "I'm going to head down somewhere. I'll be back soon."
"Alright! Meeting at 8:30, keep that in mind!" Julia shouted. Annabeth exited the room, not looking back. She needed to calm her stupid, idiot feeling right now.
She needed to calm down.
And so, Annabeth started off to the library.
