Chapter 14: Tikki
From within Marinette's earrings, Tikki watched the night's events unfold in horror... but, in the end, she was relieved. Her poor holder had been through so much... but now, Tikki could tell that she would finally be able to come out and help Marinette!
Feeling an odd pulling sensation, Tikki let the magic wash over her and bring her out of the earrings in a swirl of pink and red sparkles.
"Marinette, don't cry!"
Hearing a voice, Marinette turned around, only to see...
"It-it's a-a little... bug! A person?! A bug person!" She yelped. It looked like a tiny floating girl with a red dress, long pink hair, bug wings, and antennas! She picked up her broken heel and threw it, quickly following with the other one. That failing (the little bug-person had amazing reflexes), she looked around for a jar.
"Marinette, calm down!" The little being said. "I'm here to help you!"
"How do you know my name?!" Marinette demanded. "And- what are you?!"
"I'm a fairy! I live in your earrings, and can watch what's happening in your life," she explained. "At times of greatest trouble, I'll be able to come out and help you!"
"B-but, but fairies don't exist!" Protested Marinette weakly.
"Your mother believed in them, didn't she? Besides, how do you think your cat friend had a moving tail and ears, and cat eyes?" The fairy countered. "My friend Plagg, of course!"
Seeing Marinette was about to protest, the fairy cut in, "but you aren't going to believe me without proof, are you? Well then, come with me..."
Marinette watched confusedly as the fairy looked around the garden. Spotting the hamsters, she stopped.
"Oh, perfect!" She exclaimed. "Spots On!"
Sparkling red and pink light burst from her hands and danced around the hamsters, enveloping them in a bright cloud of what appeared to be ladybugs. Clearing away, it revealed four beautiful white horses in their place.
Marinette gasped in amazement. "You-you really are a fairy!" She said. "Oh, you look magnificent!" She told the hamsters-turned-horses.
"Of course I am! Now, step back," She was told.
"Okay, but..." she trailed off as one of the pumpkins she had previously been standing by suddenly grew into a beautiful coach with a flash of pink. Mouth wide in astonishment, Marinette wondered if she was hallucinating as the fairy preceded to make a coach driver and footmen out of a rat and a pair of pigeons.
"Good!" The fairy said, satisfied with her work. "And now... for your dress!"
"No, wait! Can you just fix it?" She asked desperately. "It-it's just... this was my mother's old dress," she said sadly. "And- well, I'd like to wear it at the ball. It'll almost be like... like I'm taking a part of her with me," she finished.
"Of course," said the fairy softly. "Well, would you mind if I... cheered it up a bit? A nice red, maybe?"
"No, that's fine," agreed Marinette.
The fairy waved her hands, and a dozen or so small ladybugs soared out towards Marinette's ragged dress. Swirling around her with a red and pink light, she watched as her torn, faded pink skirt poofed out with layers upon layers of petticoats, the dress turning a rich red, with a layer of sparkling black gauze on the skirt and a short ladybug-patterned overskirt. The ladybugs landed on her black gauzy sleeves and froze, turning into jeweled decorations.
"It-it's beautiful..." she breathed, admiring the fairy's work. "My mother would've loved it."
The fairy smiled at her delightedly. "By the way, my name is Tikki. Tikki the ladybug fairy," she told Marinette.
"Well then, I'll call myself Ladybug for tonight!" She said, knowing that she couldn't give her real name.
"Awww, that's so sweet!" Exclaimed Tikki. "Oh, you're worried about your stepfamily, right? Well, I put a spell on you that will prevent them from seeing how much you look like Marinette. You'll be safe," she reassured.
Marinette thanked Tikki profusely, glad that her identity would be hidden from them.
"Now, you'll need to get going or you'll be late!" Tikki told her. "I'll be nearby if you need me, and one more thing... my magic cannot last indefinitely, and at midnight, everything will be as it was before. When your earrings beep, that means you have five minutes left. Remember that!" She said sternly.
"Midnight? Oh, that'll be plenty of time!" Marinette said happily, getting into the carriage. Mid-step, she slipped, and fell towards the ground. A burst of pink magic caught her and set her upright.
"Are you okay?" Tikki asked, concerned.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just madly clumsy, especially in long poofy dresses," grumbled Marinette. "In fact, I probably won't even be able to dance without tripping over my own feet and falling on my partner and giving him a concussion and then being thrown out of the palace and my stepfamily will find out and lock me away in the attic forever and I'll never get to see Cat again and aaah my life is ruined!"
"Uh... well, you do need some shoes anyways!" Tikki said, choosing to ignore Marinette's rather impressive demonstration of the slippery slope fallacy... "I'm going to put on an anti-clumsiness spell," she finished.
Backing away slightly, Tikki used her powers once more, and put of her hands flew two large ladybugs. Swirling around Marinette's feet, they formed a pair of beautiful heels. Landing on the toes, the ladybugs instantly turned to ruby and onyx.
"They're so comfortable!" Marinette exclaimed. She looked closer at them, and was shocked. "But... they're made of glass?!"
"Of course they're comfortable, it's magic!" Tikki told her. "Now, you'd really better get going. And don't forget about midnight and the timer!" She reminded. Thanking the fairy again, Marinette climbed into the carriage and set off towards the palace.
A/N: I'M SORRY! I'm so sorry... plz forgive me for my massive case of writer's block? And really the huge pile of overdue homework my mom found out about and made me do didn't help much either, hehehe... you guys can thank my older sister (yes, I did tell you I'd give you some credit, 'Night!') for making me write more, I guess she was impatient for an update too! She even is helping me write the next chapter (a.k.a. she wrote it all without me and so I'm gonna have to go through and polish it and add the stuff she missed), so that'll be out pretty soon! Hopefully!
But hey at least this chapter is decent sized, right? Some of these chapters are super short, and I didn't really realize that until too late, but in the future (the rest of the story) I'll try to make them longer...
Was my Marinette meltdown good? I kinda like writing those lol! If you don't know what the slippery slope fallacy is, look it up :)
Anyways have you guys seen the spoilers for season 4 cuz I'm DYING (WHY LUKANETTE?! WHY COULDN'T IT HAVE BEEN ABOUT LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE?!)! ya anyways...
I have a question that I need answered... as you probably know because I mention it a lot, I work on Gacha videos of my fanfics before I even start actually writing them, and I'm in the middle of my 2nd one but I need a title for the story! It's gonna be in 2 or 3 parts, the 1st one is taking down Lie-la, the 2nd one might be getting oblivious idiots together but I'm not sure if I'm gonna have it as a separate part yet, and the 3rd one is defeating Hawky. Here's the summary thingy, leave a comment if you can think of a good title!
"Moving to a new country is hard... especially when you're moving to Paris, with it's constant battles of akumas vs. superheroes. Especially when one of those superheroes turns out to be your new friend. Especially when said friend is being bullied by a psycho sociopathic pathological liar. Especially when you've made it your personal mission to viciously tear each and every one of the liar's lies to shreds!
Yes I did make Tikki and Plagg look pretty humanoid, blame my sister for that, she insisted on making them look like that in the Gacha video, which I'm basically using as a reference for this fanfic. It might seem like it should be the other way around, but oh well whatever!
Ugh I just realized that all of my squiggly thingies I use for line breaks in the story disappear when I post a chapter! I'm gonna have to go back over and put them in, sorry about that guys!
Oh right, and finally... reviews! Speaking of which, LEAVE ONE! Or like or follow! Or do all three! Or just two! Or... ok I think I'll stop now... sorry I'm tired and my iPad is at 1% so I'll definitely be posting this tomorrow even if I did have WiFi... but I don't even have a mobile hotspot since our phone is stupid and the SIM card stopped workin also, check out my MLB RP forum, it's called Miraculous RP: The Twin Box, plz join?!
