Hello everybody! I am not dead, and I've returned with another chapter! Yay!
Before we begin, I want to thank everyone who gave me feedback, I'm glad you like my stories, and no matter how long it takes to get an update up, I will NEVER abandon a fanfic. Now without further ado, A New Arrival.
Chapter 4: Something more
Priya, for her part, was fairing rather well. After the greetings, the girls put her in something called a maze, which she had seen Pinky and the Brain run many times. She quickly got the hang of it, making sure not to run too fast lest she run into one of the dead ends. Something that was rather distracting was that interesting smell. It smelled… well, sort of nutty. She liked it though, that was for sure. Pri had never smelled anything quite like it. She had a feeling there was an object in the maze emitting that smell, and that she was supposed to find it. 5 minutes passed, 10 minutes, 15, with Brain getting more and more agitated and Priya becoming increasingly frustrated. It was as though the scent was teasing her. Suddenly she gasped quietly. This is silly, she thought. Pri knew she could have been out a lot quicker if she'd only thought of it before! All she needed to do was rely on her sense of smell!
Feeling excited, Priya lifted up her nose and sniffed the air. There it was, that strange nutty scent. It was very strong, so Priya guessed she was close. She skittered to her left, and the scent didn't seem to be quite as strong. But when she changed directions, the scent got stronger. Deciding that this was the way, she began heading right, her feeling of triumph growing as the scent did. She heard exclamations from the scientists, which only made her more certain that she was in the right direction. She turned a corner, and there it was! More accurately, it was a thick brown paste. She moved toward it uncertainly and sniffed. Yes, there was the mouth-watering scent, so strong Pri was taken aback. She took a small nibble. Delicious! She couldn't recall ever tasting something like this in the jungle, but she enjoyed it enormously. It was so full of flavor, though it was a bit sticky. So sticky, in fact, that it glued her jaws together. Dr. Sinha picked Priya up, and the two women showered her with praise. "Nice job, little buddy," the redhead said, grinning. "Hey, Doctor Sinha, did you hear about that guy who always bossed everyone around? You know, the one that tried to move our little friend from the cage with the two males? Turns out they fired him for animal cruelty. Good riddance."
Dr. Sinha smiled. "That's good to hear. Those poor animals." she looked at her watch. "Listen, I have to head over to the gerbil cage. Apparently one of them has had a lack of appetite. Can you run our ma'usa bandhu back to her cage, Dr. Braymiller?"
Dr. Braymiller smiled. "It would be my pleasure."
Pri was barely back in her cage when Brain hurried over to her. "They didn't hurt you, did they?" he asked anxiously, scowling at Dr. Braymiller. "Mmmph," said Priya in a muffled voice, finally unsticking her jaws. "I'm alright, Brain," she assured him, hugging him. "All they had me do was run that maze, and I had to find something, I don't know the word for it. It was brown, and sort of shiny, with a distinctive nutty smell. And it stuck my jaws together."
Behind them, Pinky let out a horrified gasp. "You've never had peanut butter?" he cried, staring at Priya, who chuckled. "Oh, Pinky, you know I lived in the jungle. They didn't have peanut butter in the jungle!" she suddenly realized she was still hugging Brain, and quickly let him go, blushing. Pinky, however, noticed nothing, still shocked at this bit of information. "But how did you survive without peanut butter?" he asked. Pri laughed. "Pinky, I went through my entire life not knowing that peanut butter existed. That made it quite easy to survive without," she explained. Pinky seemed to understand, but he was obviously still shaken.
"Brain, I was wondering," Priya began in a slightly nervous tone. "Could we possibly take the night off? Watch a movie, perhaps?"
Pinky obviously liked the idea. Brain paused for a moment, then gave Pri a small smile, which made her stomach flip. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt," he replied. Pinky cheered. "Hurray! I have a movie we can watch! Poit!"
Priya, on the other hand, was still thinking about Brain's smile. Had she never truly appreciated how sweet and sincere they were, at least when they were directed toward her? Then she had a sudden realization.
Was she… in love with Brain?
Pri was broken out of her reverie by Pinky's hand waving in front of her face.
"Oh, hello, Pinky. I was just thinking."
"About what? Trying to take over the world?" wondered Pinky.
"Not… quite, Pinky." Pri answered, turning red. "Have you gotten your movie for tonight?"
"Right here!" sang Pinky, waving it in the air and knocking Brain flat on his back. "Oops! Sorry, Brain," said Pinky.
"May I see that?" asked Brain, taking the movie. Then, quick as a wink, he slammed Pinky into the ground with it. Pinky howled with laughter. Priya's mind, however, was still on her feelings for Brain. She knew she would have to confess to him sooner or later.
And tonight gave her the perfect advantage.
The movie Pinky chose just so happened to be a cheesy romcom, much to Brain's disgust. Priya, however, loved it. It made her feel calmer about expressing her feelings to Brain, though she still wasn't sure when she was going to tell him. The reason for that was because she wanted to do it when it was just the two of them when Pinky wasn't around. She loved the bouncy, bubbly mouse as well, but she wanted this moment to be special.
Near the end of the movie, something unexpected happened: Pinky fell asleep. This was surprising because Pinky never fell asleep during movies, they were so exciting for him. To be fair, they were lying on soft pillows and were covered in fuzzy blankets, but still. Nevertheless, this was Pri's golden opportunity, and she wasn't going to pass on it. She slowly reached over and took Brain's hand. "Brain?" she said softly.
"Yes, Priya?" the megalomaniac answered.
"I have something to tell you."
"What is it?"
Pri looked at the large-headed mouse, the one who had saved her, comforted her, fed her, forgave her, and decided no words could express her feelings. Actions could, though.
With almost no hesitation, Priya leaned forward and pressed her lips against Brain's. When they finally pulled away from each other, blushing madly, Pri rested her forehead on Brain's, finally whispering the magic words.
"I love you."
Her heart nearly stopped when Brain said the words she had wanted him to say all along.
"I love you too, Pri."
Awwwww... I SHIP IT! lol.
Unfortunately, the next chapter will be the last, because this story needs an epilogue. Hopefully it will be up soon.
By the way, if you got the Wakko's Wish reference, you're awesome.
