Before Note: I would have updated sooner, but I had a lot of personal things come up last month plus working on art commissions and such. Talking about art I'll probably doodle some cover art for this fic soon! I shouldn't have anything big coming up in the next month or two so updates will hopefully be more frequent! (gonna try to get 2 or 3 more chaps up here before school starts, and believe it or not im getting closer to writing the final chapter to this fic :ooo) Thank you to those who have reviewed and favorited/followed!
Disclaimer: yeah.
"You have to tell Ikki at some point, you know."
"Yeah, sure."
"Shun, I'm serious!"
"I swear to the Hades in me I'm going to kick you out if you keep yelling at me."
'I mean...'
"I'm just trying to help you!"
"And I said okay!" Shun had a sour look on his face as he fixed the curtains to his bedroom. Hyoga, on the other hand, was completely exasperated as he stiffly sat at the edge of Shun's bed, gripping the sheets in his hands in frustration.
'You guys are arguing like an old married couple...'
"Well you said it sarcastically! I just want to make sure you'll tell him," Hyoga spat.
Shun breathed heavily and closed his eyes for a moment. He knew Hyoga was right, he didn't know why he was fighting it so much.
'You're not usually this ill-tempered, Shun.'
"I know I just," Shun spoke to both Hades and Hyoga, "I'm really fucking scared of telling him. I don't know how he'll react."
The thought made him feel too many things at once. He wasn't scared of Ikki getting angry with him. He was scared of feeling guilty, of making Ikki feel guilty or betrayed. Not long ago Ikki had broken down in front of him and opened up completely. Why couldn't he have done the same and just told him about Hades then and there? Instead, Shun was here letting time tick by and trying to hide himself. Hyoga found out, it wouldn't take much for the rest to figure it out as well. If he let Ikki be the last one to find out...if he couldn't confide in his own brother from the very beginning...Shun felt guilt and sadness wash over him.
Hyoga flinched at Shun's rare use of profanity and softened his tone. "I wouldn't worry about it too much, I mean, I can see where you're coming from, but he loves you a lot. He'll have to understand."
Shun plopped against the wall with his window and took interest in the creases of his hands. "Yeah..."
'I agree with Hyoga (he can still fuck off), but yeah you shouldn't be scared of Ikki, of all people. I wish you were scared of me instead, maybe then you'd tone down your 'fuck this god in particular' attitude.'
Shun snorted, and when Hyoga looked at him weirdly, he tapped his head with a finger. Hyoga gave a small "Oh" and almost looked annoyed for a second. Half a second.
A few moments passed before Shun spoke up. "Hey, Hyoga."
Rolling a bit on the bed in order to make eye contact, Hyoga mumbled, "What?"
"Hades hasn't stopped dissing you ever since I bumped into you out in the street."
A gasp. 'I thought we were friends.'
Hyoga narrowed his eyes, and Shun giggled. "I don't think he should be dissing anybody considering he's stuck in god-limbo until the next two hundred years."
'Frankly, I think it's the best time to be 'dissing' people.'
"Alright, alright," Shun interjected, he looked at Hyoga once more, "About earlier...I'll try to talk to Ikki about it soon, okay? I just don't want to think about it anymore."
Hyoga smiled briefly and nodded. "Fair enough. Hey, I have an idea." Shun looked up, questioningly. "I'll be leaving soon, lets go out. My treat."
Shun smiled at Hyoga's up front attempt to cheer him up. "Where to?"
"I don't know, food and a movie or something? We'll figure it out."
"Sounds good."
'Sounds boring.'
Contrary to popular belief, the outing was not, in fact, boring ('was too'). Going out to do whatever was always fun and fulfilling in some way, even more with friends. Pizza was yummy, and the milkshakes they challenged themselves to gulp down made the world feel okay. That is, until they were both groaned at their packed stomachs. Then the world just felt terrible and filled with misery. Hades would love that, probably. ('Of course I would, how can you stop me from destroying life on Earth and then be like oh I don't know maybe, just maybe, he'd like pain and suffering god Shun get your head in the game.') Hm. Can you develop lactose intolerance through over-consumption? Maybe they were thinking about it too much. Anyways, once Shun and Hyoga felt good enough to move after the food settled, they found a small movie theater that they decided to check out. Nothing seemed interesting, so they spent the rest of their time (and money) at the arcade next door.
They tried a co-op zombie shooter game. It was hidden behind a crummy-looking claw machine, as if in a secret pocket of space-time (or some other dimension-y concept or term) that cloaked it away from human contact. But Shun and Hyoga knew better. They had achieved the 9th sense to be able to detect these things. No that was the god thing right it was it the 10th then. Maybe. Lets say 11th just in case. The 11th sense. The legitimate sense that legitimately gave them the power to detect zombie games in arcades. ('I'm very confused.')
Anyways, they were doing pretty good and having a good time. But, Shun kept yelling as he shot with zombies jumping on his side of the screen. Or if he wasn't yelling he was making some sort of inhuman noise. A mumble. A stretched out vocal note. Hyoga didn't judge. Whatever helped Shun win. That's all that mattered. You do you, friend. Once the game ended they gently set down the guns and walked out. It was pretty dark when they stepped outside. Time to go home. No one said anything, but Hyoga kept glancing at Shun questioningly. Eventually, Hyoga shrugged it off. They kept walking in silence.
'W-Why were you yell-'
"That was fun wasn't it?" Shun turned to Hyoga, who glanced back a little startled after the long silence.
'Hey don't-'
"Hell yeah we should do this more often," was Hyoga's unenthusiastic response.
'Are we not going to talk about-'
"Next time you come over for sure, lets try to finish the story mode on that game" Shun piped up.
'Shun you ass, lis-'
"We can do that, sure," Hyoga scratched the back of his head and dared not look Shun in the eye.
'YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO IGNORE ME?'
Hyoga didn't really know why Shun busted out laughing in the middle in the street. But that wasn't the first weird thing that had happened to him in the past few hours, so all he did was pull Shun along in order to get him home.
After Note: Probably one of my shorter chapters but I needed to split up the next sequence of events so I can organize my thoughts :o I already have some of next chapter done I'm excited!
