A/N: Hi all. I know it's been a long time since I last updated, I'm still working on the next chapter. However, since the end if the year is fast approaching, or already passed for some, I am giving you a little snippet of what the future may hold. I hope you all enjoy it!
She stood to the side of the bar on her own. She had been there alone all night, not that she really cared too much. It was a chance to get out of the house and away from the farm and her uncle.
Ever since she had returned, nothing seemed right. She had never felt like she belonged there in the first place, now she felt that even more. She was so alone all the time. Sure, a few men had approached her over the evening, but there was only ever one man on her mind. Someone she knew she couldn't have and would never see again. And she hated it.
She missed him. She knew she did, but what could she do? She was back where she belonged now. That was the end of it.
The days had turned into weeks and then into months, and soon it was the New Year. She had been home for almost four months and not a day went past that she didn't think of him. Isabella couldn't help but wonder if he ever thought about her. No, of course he didn't. Not when he had Gwen. She was who he was mean to be with, not her. No matter how she felt or what people said, it was never meant to be.
That was why she had told him the truth. That was why she was back to the life she hated. At least she had a night away. Even if she knew she would get in trouble if she were caught. She just didn't care anymore.
Isabella looked at the people in the room. Many of them were in fancy dress. There was a group of Roman soldiers, Batman and Robin, angels, fairies and so many others. But she wasn't dressed up like them. She was wearing her green and black halter neck party frock.
The music stopped and everyone went silent. The countdown to midnight had begun. Isabella carried on standing to the side, a small smile on her face as she watched everyone having a good time. It seemed that everyone had someone, except for her. But if she couldn't have who she wanted, she didn't want anyone.
The clock struck midnight and everyone cheered or kissed their loved one. Isabella just picked up her glass. "Happy New Year, Arthur." She whispered to herself. That was when she noticed people whispering in the still silent room.
She turned to see what was going on and saw two men standing behind her. One was dressed in some brownish trousers, a red shirt and a blue neckerchief. An outfit that she had been so used to seeing. The other was a man in chainmail, a red tabard, and a matching red cloak with a golden dragon on the left shoulder.
"Happy New Year, Isabella." The blonde haired man in the armour said to her.
She was lost for words. "Arthur?" She whispered, praying it was he and not just her imagination.
"You were expecting someone else?" He asked, before grabbing her by the waist and pulling her closer to him.
"No." She managed to breath, before he pulled her right against him and forced a passionate kiss upon her. She didn't even notice all the cheers coming from the crowd. She didn't care. Why would she when the man she thought she was never going to see again was there with her?
"Please tell me this isn't a dream?" She asked when he finally let her breath again.
"Definitely not a dream." Arthur told her, brushing some of her hair out of her face.
"But… how did you even get here?" She asked. He should have been in Camelot, not there with her now.
"You have Merlin to thank for that." He said, stepping aside so she could see the dark haired man behind him.
"Merlin!" She cried, throwing her arms around him. "But I still don't understand." She said when she finally pulled away. "How the hell did the pair of you get here?" The rest of the room had now gone back to full party mode. She grabbed hold of Arthur and Merlin and dragged them both outside.
"Okay, now is someone going to explain to me what is going on? You two should be in Camelot, not in the future." She stressed. Isabella was glad to see them, especially Arthur, but something must have been wrong for them to be there.
"We've come to take you home." Arthur told her, grasping her hand tightly.
"Arthur, I am home, remember? This is where I am from." She said, waving her free arm around, pointing to the bar they had just left.
"Not according to the druids." Merlin said, a huge grin on his face.
"Oh no, please don't tell me you went to the druids to get here." Isabella moaned.
"You have to come back with us. You don't belong here, Isabella. What about your brothers? They are worried sick." Merlin told her.
"Merlin, my brothers are dead." She told him firmly. "They died along with my parents in a car crash when I was just a kid."
"Isabella, please. I am begging you." Arthur said, grabbing hold of her other hand as well. "Please, come back with us. I need you."
She let out a sigh. "Arthur, did you hear anything I said to you when I left?"
"You're from the future. You live on a farm with your uncle since the rest of your family were killed in some sort of accident. While you were in Camelot, you had magic." He gazed into her eyes. "I remember everything you told me, Isabella."
"Then why the hell are you here? Both of you!" She shouted, making Merlin flinch a little. "You're messing with things you don't understand. You need to leave, go back to Camelot, right now." She demanded.
"I am not going anywhere without you, Isabella." Arthur told her calmly.
"You have to. Arthur, you can't stay here." She told him a little more gently. "Camelot needs you, without you, this world is going to change. The universe would fall apart, because you are that important."
"Then come with us. Come back to Camelot with me. I don't care that you are from a completely different time. I don't care that you have magic. None of that matters to me, Isabella." Her Prince told her.
"But it does matter, Arthur. You're the Once and Future King. Without you, Albion will fall. All those who have ever fought against you will have won." Isabella was close to cracking now, and she knew it.
"Do you know why you were sent to Camelot in the first place?" Merlin decided it was time for him to speak up, since he knew his master wasn't getting anywhere. "Because you were meant to be there. You were given the chance that you were meant to have. This life, this was never what was meant to happen to you." He told her.
"Merlin, you're making even less sense than the sheep." Isabella told him, rolling her eyes at him.
"Don't dwell on the future, live in the past." He told her, letting a small smile tug at the corner of his lips.
"Don't go quoting that overgrown lizard to me." She mumbled.
"You still need to play your part in the legend. Come back with us." Merlin asked her.
"I… I can't." She whispered. "I just can't."
"Isabella, please. I cannot face another day without you there. Every day that you have been gone, I have thought of you." Arthur almost had tears in his eyes. "You mean more to me than anything, Isabella. I love you."
She turned away from. If she looked at him now, after saying that, she would just fall into his arms and go back without a second thought. "I… I don't love you, Arthur." She whispered, holding back the tears. It was killing her to say it, but she had to.
She heard him let out a sigh behind her. "It's not going to work. You can tell me that as much as you want, but I won't believe it, because I know it's not true."
"It is true, Arthur. I do not love you." She said, before she started walking away from Arthur and his servant. She heard Arthur begin to follow her first, so she picked up a little bit of speed. By the time she had reached the edge of the village she was running as fast as her legs could carry her.
"Isabella!" Arthur shouted, trying to get her to stop. But she didn't. She vaulted over the small fence and sprinted across the field and towards the small house in the distance.
A/N: Well, I hope this has got you all on the edge of your seats. There are some big things to come, I promise you all that.
Now, on a serious note, there is a poll on my profile that relates to both my Merlin stories and whether to continue to write the episodes or make it more original. I would appreciate it if you guys would go and take a look and vote on it.
And finally, Happy New Year to all of you! Have a fantastic 2015!
Pippa.
