Early the next morning, Barley came back with a bag of stuff and he returned to his room to hear his baby daughter waking up in her basket that was across from his bed
"Good morning Angel" Barley cooed. The baby girl happily babbled, reaching for him.
He gladly picked her up but repulsed from the smell of her diaper. He forgot that he left her in the same diaper from last night
"Let's get your diaper changed, sweetie" He took her and the bag upstairs to the bathroom. He placed her on the sink and placed the bag underneath her head. Luckily she was a patient girl, she was busy looking at the mirror while he did his work. He then cleaned her off before putting a new diaper on her.
"There we are, all better" Barley told her while quickly throwing away the diaper. He took her from the sink and placed her on the toilet with the lid down. He took out footie pajamas that were pink and grey and had stripes and brought it to her. Angel tilted her head at the pajamas presented to her.
"What do you think, sweetie?" Barley asked his daughter. She didn't respond and still had her head tilted.
"Let's try them on" Barley began to slip on the pajamas on her feet then he forgot about something. He grabbed some scissors and cuts the back to make room for her little wings. He placed the pajamas on her and realized that it was tight and her chubby tummy was exposed. He smiled and gave her a raspberry on it making the girl laugh.
"It's okay, I lucky bought two more"
He took out the second footie pajamas that were white with red hearts on it, They were too big on her. Finally, He took out the third one which was black with a gold A on the front. He puts it on her and made room for her wings and they fit perfectly. The baby girl babbled happily at the fact that pajamas could fit and quickly flapped her wings
"You like that one, pretty girl?"
"Ba," Angel said flapping her wings
Ian then came into the bathroom to see Barley bonding with Angel and he spotted her cute pajamas
"Ian, Check out Angel" Barley beamed seeing his younger brother. He showed Ian angels PJs and Angel began to ham it up for her uncle, displaying the A on them and posing a bit.
Ian couldn't help but chuckle at her. "She's just like you." then a rumbling noise filled the air
"Guess somebody's hungry," Barley said, looking at Angel "Let's get that taken care of"
A little later, Laurel and Colt returned from their date. They were exhausted but this changed when they heard a baby noise and Barley cooing. The couple walked into the kitchen and spotted Barley getting Trolli-Os from the cabinet and spotting baby Angel across from him sitting on top of the countertop
"From the size of you, you're too big for a bottle, Want some cereal?" Barley then puts the cereal in the bowl and gives it to her
Angel babbled, placing a hand in the bowl making a mess in the process. She turned to see the two adults and she babbled and playfully pointed at them. It got her father's attention and He turned to see them standing there.
"Oh Hey mom, Colt" Barley picked up Angel and began to show her to them
"This is Angel" Laurel and Colt smiled at the baby who gave them a loud giggle
"Aww, She's beautiful" Laurel commented giving the baby her index finger and the child trying to catch it. "How did you find her?"
"She was left in a basket in the front door last night while you guys were out" Ian spoke, coming into the kitchen.
"Best of all, she's mine" Barley finished. Colt and Laurel look at him skeptically.
Then Angel whined, reaching for Laurel who took her gingerly.
"Such a pretty girl" then Laurel felt her wings flap wildly and held Angel in front of her, seeing the wings on her back giving the matriarch and Colt baffled looks.
"I forgot to mention she has wings" Barley chuckled sheepishly.
Barley then showed the letter that was left with the basket. Laurel finished reading the letter and looked at Barley and Angel and saw that they both look alike, same hazel eyes, same chubby figure, same hair.
"Well, we can't be too sure if the baby is yours, but she is adorable" Colt tried to tickle Angel, she began to squirm away from him, whining in Ian's arms, making Colt's face fall.
"Nope, she's definitely Barley's" Laurel snickered
The family then spent the afternoon playing with Angel, who was more than happy to have the attention. Ian entertained her by showing the baby some spells, the child was blown away by the spells except for Boom-Bastia, it spooked her but Laurel ended up calming her. Angel took a big liking to her grandma, squeezing her nose and trying to knock down her glasses, making Laurel having to pick them up.
"Silly girl, who's a silly girl" Laurel cooed, tickling her tummy
Then a familiar bark was heard. Blazey came running in, trying to see what all the ruckus was about
Angel babbled wildly seeing Blazey, trying to squirm out of Laurel's arms trying to get to the dragon. The poor dragon got a little spooked and ran off, disappointing the baby. But Barley quickly cheered her up by laying her on her tummy and swung her in the air making her fly. Angel then began to flap her wings trying to put them to use. She was airborne for a second, surprising the whole family but alas, she began to fall but thankfully Barley caught her in his large arms
"Ooh, gotcha" Barley cooed nuzzling his large nose with her tiny one. "We need to work on those little wings of yours"
Then a savory smell came from the kitchen, causing Angel to sniff.
"Ba" She squeaked
Barley chuckled. "Must be time for dinner, wonder what's cooking?"
"Chicken soup is what's cooking, it's almost ready" Laurel called.
Barley turned from the kitchen to his daughter. "I should wash you up for dinner while we wait"
Bath time was pretty tough, considering Angel loved the water. She would splash around, getting her father and the floor wet. He used some of his mother's leftover lavender soap which seems to calm her hyperactive energy.
"Dinner's ready!" Laurel called
"We're coming" Barley then dried off the girl. He had to put her pajamas back on because he forgot to buy clothes for her. Angel had a dreaded look on her face
"Don't worry, I'll take you shopping again tomorrow and we'll pick whatever you like"
She babbled happily at the idea.
Then dinner was a slight breeze since the baby was hungry. The lightfoot family didn't have a high-chair for her so Barley held her in his arms on the couch and spoon-fed her the broth, which burned her for a second but she like it nonetheless.
Then a crack of thunder rang with rain coming after, causing poor Angel to wail.
"No No No No, Shh" Barley hushed. He bounced the baby in his arms. Then thunder boomed once more, making her scream with cries following after. Barley felt her shaking and leaned her against the elf's shoulder, shushing her some more
"What's wrong with her?" Ian asked
Thunder answered his question. Poor Angel cried her terrified lungs out and squirmed. Barley then cradled her and began to hush her again
"It's okay, Daddy's here, Don't cry," Barley said gently. He rocked the scared baby girl and hummed a lullaby to her. It was sweet, even though he wasn't the best singer. Barley knew the responsibility of a baby but he didn't care. She was now his world, and He might love her more than his favorite thing, Quests of Yore.
Angel then stopped shaking and her hazel eyes locked with her father's matching ones. She leaned into his chest listening to his heartbeat, which played along with the lullaby. It made her sleepy as she began to yawn and she snuggled into Barley's arms. He smiled seeing his little girl calm and gazed out the window and saw that the storm stopped. He yawned, kicked off his large sneakers, and lied down on the couch with the baby in his arms. Ian, Laurel, and Colt watched with the warmest grins on their faces. Laurel and Colt were worried about him being a father to the winged elf but seeing him calm her down proved them wrong.
