Angel- 7
Barley was reading his Quest of Yore when he heard the mattress squeaking from next door.
"Angel...Are you jumping on the bed again…" Barley called without looking up from his book
"NO…" Angel called back. Then wings flapped and Angel entered the room landing on her father's belly. "What are you reading?"
"Quests of Yore pumpkin...Did you do your homework?" Angel nodded. Barley smirked, grabbed his daughter, pulled up her lilac shirt, and blew a big raspberry on her tummy.
"Daddy...That tickles…" She laughed. Barley wrapped his arm around his daughter and she read with him.
"Dad...when are we going to go on a quest?"
"Hm…"
"When are we going on a really real quest?"
"I'm not sure sweetie…" Barley hadn't gone on a quest since Angel was around. He knew sooner or later, he had to take his little wizard on a quest with him and Ian. He really wanted to go on a quest.
"Okay, I'll make a deal with you...What day is it…" Angel looked at the dragon-shaped calendar.
"It's Monday…" Angel answered
"If by Friday...You can behave yourself...Do all your homework...and your chores, Uncle Ian and I will take you on a quest, and you get dessert for a week...How does that sound?"
"DEAL…." Angel gasped. The father and daughter shook on it.
As promised, Angel was on her best behavior and She did her chores around the apartment, determined to go on that quest. She told her friends about her quest
"Dude good luck on your quest…" Isley said while the kids played at recess
"I bet you're going to have a fantastic time this 3 day weekend…" Ness added.
"I'm not going for a good time...I'm going because I'm a wizard and I can come in handy to my dad and Uncle Ian when they need help…"
"Be sure to tell that to the fellas here…" Farren bragged. The kids giggled. Then the bell rang.
"Come on...It's time for our last class…" Edgar called his friends as they raced to the building.
After school, Barley and Ian both waited for Angel and she ran over to them to Guinevere the 2nd
"Well, dear child are you ready to go on a quest" Angel smiled and nodded.
"Let's do it…" Angel said when she got in the van. Her staff awaited her and she latched onto it the whole ride.
Their first stop was the Manticore's tavern.
"Okay, Angel, Ian, and I will do the talking, You stay behind us and we should give her the respect she deserves…" Angel nodded.
"It's been a while since we've seen her...and I'm not sure if she's seen you before..." Ian added
"Okay...I'll stay behind…"
"That's my girl" Barley ruffled her hair. Before they went, Angel got a little nervous
"Hey...Don't be scared...Uncle Ian and I will be with you the whole time" Barley offers his daughter his hand and she gently took it
They opened the door to reveal a birthday party was happening, making Angel unsure
The trio then find a spot to sit in the booth as the lights grew dark in the tavern
"Guess we're having an audience today" Barley whispered.
Then there were spotlights going around and sure enough, the Manticore arrived in her warrior outfit in flight. Arrow let out a soft gasp but she didn't let anyone hear it.
"Ladies and gentlemen shall a story be heard today for my audience" a wild cheer was heard
"I shall tell the tale of the quest for the Phoenix Gem"
"You're gonna love this Angel" Barley whispered. And he was right.
When the story was interesting from beginning to end and Angel was completely engaged, listening to the whole story...even though it wasn't as accurate.
After the story was done, Angel couldn't help but applaud The Manticore.
After everything settled down, The trio made their way toward the Manticore
"Well that was a lovely performance," Barley said behind her.
She jumped but as soon as saw the boys, she held both of them in a tight hug
"Ooh, how are my boys doing!" The Manticore beamed squeezing the boys.
"Great," Ian said, smushed in the beast's grasp.
"Listen Corey we have a re-" Barley started
"How's your mom doing, It's been a while since we've seen-"
"Huh…" Angel said, making her voice known to The Manticore
Corey releases the boys upon hearing the voice and turns to the child who clutched onto her small staff tightly as the beast approached her.
"Hi Nice to meet you...Are you boys babysitting her?" Corey held a paw out to shake her hand. All Angel could do was give a small wave.
"Actually...She's Barley's daughter…" Ian nudged Barley, who sheepishly smiled.
"Ooh, a godchild...Why didn't you tell me you had a baby of your own, she looks just like you…" Corey pinched Angel's cheek, making the child giggle.
"My name is Angel mam…" Angel curtsied for The Manticore.
"Mam...Honey...You can call me Auntie Corey…"
"Really…" Barley then cleared his throat signaling the girl to stop the conversation
"We are here for you to send us on a grand and noble quest…"
"Are you sure you want to go on a quest...She's awfully young to go…"
"I can handle it, Auntie Corey...I'm a wizard…" Angel said, holding up her staff.
"I know sweet pea but I don't want you to get hurt…"
"That's why she has us…" Barley reassured. "I have a feeling she could do this…"
"Very well…"
"That was awesome...Auntie Corey must do that with everybody…" Angel said as they drove off from the Tavern
"Okay...I'm gonna need you to stick by me, while we are on this quest...Do you understand…" Barley instructed her.
Angel nodded.
"Use your magic only when it's necessary…and don't wander off...I know you get easily distracted…"
"Not true…" Angel whined.
"Is true…"
"Is not…" Angel crossed her arms.
"Okay...But If you wander off and run into a Gelantionus cube you are on your own…"
Angel clutched onto her staff as they drove off.
"Where are we going exactly…"
"Loch Lake…Where we can get some treasure…"
"Sweet...Farren didn't believe that I went on a quest...I might need something so they can believe me…" Angel said to herself.
"It might be a long ride so you rest up back there…" Barley told Angel and Ian.
"If you get hurt can I drive…" Angel asked
"Not a chance...Unless your sixteen…" Angel pouted at this statement.
While they drove, Angel practiced her spells on the beanbag.
"ALOFT ELEVAR…" Angel said. The Mountain Doom in front of her began to float in front of her.
"Good girl Angel...Can you pass that over here?" Barley asked. Then Angel turned and brought the soda to her father, who caught it.
"Nice...Think fast…" Barley threw a bag of chips at her and She caught it with her spell.
"Yes...My favorite…" Barley watched through the rearview mirror as his daughter gingerly ate her snack.
After a long drive in the middle of a swamp, Guinevere the 2nd began to slowly stop.
"No no no no Come on Guinevere…" Barley whispered to himself, pulling over the van.
"What's wrong…" Angel asked
"I thought you fix her…" Ian added
"Relax...Guinevere is fine...Her stomach is a little empty…"
"But I thought she has gas…" Angel asked.
"Thank Alora I brought extra…" then the trio got out of the van and Barley got the gas can and began to fill up the van.
Angel began to look around the noisy and dark swamp. "Don't like this place…"
"Don't you worry, We'll be outta here soon okay baby…" Barley wrapped his arm around his child. Then a noise was heard, making the two wizards alert.
"Get ready…" Ian whispered to Angel, who got her staff ready. Then a howl was heard from the trees
"Daddy…" Angel whispered.
"Yes, Sweetie…" Barley finished up the gas and he too heard the howl. Then out of nowhere, a large wolf dragon shows up.
"A WOLF DRAGON…" Barley pointed. Then the wolf dragon roared and began to fly around them
"Flame Infernar…" Ian called out. Fire went out of his staff and towards the dragon who dodged it immediately. Then it began to fly towards Angel with its mouth open to eat her.
"VOLTAR THUNDASIR…" Angel shouted. The lighting came out of her staff and straight into the dragon's mouth, causing it to fall right in front of the trio. Barley luckily picked up Angel before it can crash towards her.
"Is it dead?" Angel asked. She tapped it a few times and the dragon didn't move, confirming its demise. "HAHA, I killed it...Now I need to get a tooth
"Why do you need a tooth?" Barley asked her
"For proof…"
"I'm sure the other kids will believe you already when we get the treasure…" Ian added
Angel then went up to the dead dragon and tried to pull out a tooth and with all of her might, she managed to get a small tooth out. She smiled and looked at it with all of its glory. Barley and Ian just shook their heads as they went inside the van and continued on their way.
When they arrive at Loch Lake, Angel looked around the beautiful lake.
"Wow...Can we go swimming here?" Angel looked up at her father.
"Be careful...everything is not what it seems Angel...You may see something-"
"Oh, Angel…" a voice called out. Angel looked around to see who called her and turned to see that it was a handsome boy, nearby a few rocks across the lake. "I love your wings...Let's fly together…" Angel was in a trance and began to take flight
"Angel no...Don't you dare fly over there…" Barley warned her
"Angel let's run away together…" the boy continued
"Aww...He's so dreamy…"
Then Ian began to see the boy glitch. "Angel, He's a siren...Don't listen to him." Barley quickly covered his daughter's ears, making the child snap out of her trance, and then the trio began to flee in the van. While getting away from the sirens Barley noticed a building up ahead.
"A temple...not a bad place for a gauntlet…" Barley whispered. Then he pulled over there and then the trio got out of the van. Barley found a torch, took Angel's hand, and went inside with Ian following behind him.
"Treasure is on the other side...Careful there could be booby traps…"
"Haha, you said booby…" Angel giggled. Barley had a flat look on his face. "Where would the traps even be?"
Then Angel stepped on a plate that sank in and Barley knew what that meant.
"ANGEL DUCK…" then two axes went Angel's way and she ducked out of the way and she clamped onto Barley's arm. Then the fire went out and they saw something green coming down.
"Oh no…" Barley spoke. A cube-like shape came down more and more.
"IS that?" Angel trailed off. Then the green cub appeared before them
"A GELATINOUS CUBE!" Barley and Angel scream together. Then the cube began to creep closer to the trio.
"Run…" Angel screamed
"Wait, it's a puzzle…" Ian yelled
"No time grab a shield, Hold on Angel…" Barley scooped his daughter, who clutched onto him as they grabbed two shields. They ran and screamed, getting away from the cube, and dodged out of the way as a saw swung towards them. They stopped short as spikes were below them.
"I can fly you guys…" Angel said.
"WHAT?!" Barley told his daughter
"Please trust me…" then Angel used her wings and grabbed onto her father and uncle and began to fly away from the cube
"Hurry sweetie…" Barley begged. Then they made it safely to the other side and sighed with relief.
"Guys look…" Angel pointed. There were gold and treasure, all around the room. "That was easy…"
"Mmm too easy...It's not guarded or anything…" Ian said.
"That stupid cube guarded it and did a poor job…" Angel said grabbing a bunch of the small gold and stuffing it in her short pocket. "Besides...I don't see anybody else here…" then a large dragon came in and snarled noisily, making Angel turn around. Then the dragon began to blow fire at her. Angel grabbed a golden shield and blocked it.
"VOLTAR THUNDASIR…" Ian yelled. The lighting caved in the dragon making it bad away. Angel came out from the shield and began to whoop
"More treasure for sweet Angel…" the young girl said. She grabbed as much as her pudgy hands can grab
"Well Let's get home before something else happens…" Barley spoke
"You said it…"
"Look up there...that's a way out.." Angel pointed to the ladder and sunlight up at a hole in the cave.
"Atta girl Angel…" Barley told her, ruffling her hair.
"Now come on let's get home…" Ian sighed.
"I can't wait for show and tell, I'll be able to show the treasure and the tooth...I'll share the treasure with you guys…" Angel rambled.
After the trio climbed out, they went and found Guinevere the 2nd and drove home
