"Rachel come on!" Kurt shouted from the steps of the Berry household. "We're gonna have to leave for the airport without you!"
Rachel stuck her head out the door of her bedroom. "I'm coming!" she shouted, adjusting the gold Jewish star that Finn had given her for Valentines Day a few years back. Straightening her black pencil skirt, she allowed herself one more look in the full-length mirror. "I can't believe I get to see Finn again," she sighed, grabbing a headband for her forehead.
"Hope he's worth the wait," Hiram teased with a raised eyebrow.
Rachel paid him no heed as she bolted down the stairs. It was early Thursday morning, and that meant that Rachel would have a few hours alone with Finn before Thanksgiving dinner with the family.
"Blaine's not coming to Thanksgiving," Kurt said abruptly, following Rachel into Burt's truck. "Which means that I'll see him Friday if I'm lucky."
Friday was the tentative New Directions reunion for any and all members who were in town for the Thanksgiving weekend. It was going to be held in the old choir room at McKinley.
"Sorry," Rachel said sympathetically, double checking her makeup in her compact mirror. "Did you talk to him over the phone?"
"For two minutes," Kurt griped. "He wasn't this busy last year."
"He wasn't student council president last year," Burt piped in. "And you have three other days to try to see him."
"He knew when we were coming back," Kurt said, looking out the window. "This is the first chance I'm getting to see him since I've seen him since I left."
Carole turned the radio dial. "I wonder if Finn looks different."
Rachel quietly wondered the same thing. Letter writing was a good way to pass the time when they weren't together, but there was nothing that could replace a short weekend reunion. Will he still find me pretty? Will he want to have sex right away? Will he tell me he's leaving the country?
The beeping of her phone drove Rachel from her thoughts. Examining the screen, Rachel saw a text message from Brody. Thinking of u 2day, was all it said. Rachel slipped the phone back in her purse without replying. She didn't want to think about Brody Weston right now, and she didn't want to think about why he was thinking about her.
"Rachel, it'll be okay," Kurt said, taking her hand. Rachel offered Kurt a small smile.
Will it, Rachel wondered, not wanting to admit that Kurt may be right about her relationship with Brody.
"Things will be okay for you and Blaine," Rachel replied. "It'll only get better from here," she said firmly, resolving to use positive thinking.
