CHAPTER 15: I'm Yours

Eddie's POV
School began like it always does.
But what happened during school was definatly not normal. As a matter of fact, it was pure trouble for me.
Why? All because of Steve Benson. Here's what happened:
1st period: As soon as I sat down in the seat between Jake and Steve, right away Steve began to talk to me. "Hey Eddie! You look pretty!" he said, cheerfully.
"Thanks," I muttered, then tried to ignore him. Jake said nothing, but I knew he wasn't very happy.
2nd period: Steve insisted on walking me, even though I kept pointing out that I could walk with Jake, since we have PE together. Of course, Steve said, "I don't mind tagging along!" He swung his arm over my shoulder and began walking. I pulled away, but Jake still turned a bit red. Jake then ignored me during PE.
3rd Period: "Come on Jake! It's not like I'm flirting back!" I insisted.
"Still! It's getting me really mad!" Jake replied.
"Well, at least talk to me! Look, we're finally together without Steve tagging along, can't you at least be nice?" I asked.
Jake sighed. "You're right, I'm sorry."
Lunch: Steve sat with us Hatfords and Malloys. And of course, he had to sit next to me.
4th: Caroline asked what was up with Jake, who was ignoring everybody. I shrugged and told her that he was in one of his moods.
5th: Josh spoke to me, Jake didn't. Because Steve had shown up after 4th period and walked me to class again.
6th: Stupid Steve, joined the baseball class. Not knowing, I was taking out my fustrations on the balls getting pitched to me, hitting them with the bat harder than usual. That's when I heard: "Yeah! Go Eddie!" I looked up to see Steve and Jake watching me. Steve winked at me. Jake saw, and turned and left. Great.
7th: "Jake, please! I'm not flirting back, and I'm not encouraging him either!" I pleaded.
Jake muttered, and didn't look at me. "You could at least tell him something."
"Tell him what? Sorry, but I'm secretly dating your best friend?" I snapped. "You wanted our relationship a secret, remember?"
Jake didn't reply for the rest of the class.
8th: At the stupid Performing Arts Class, the teacher decided to choose ME to perform today. Typical. I sighed and went up to the low stage the class had. Closing my eyes, I sang:
"Well, you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill, but you're so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks
Now I'm trying to get back
Before the cool done run out
I'll be giving it my bestest
And nothing's gonna stop me but divine intervention.
I reckon, it's again my turn
To win some or learn some.
But I won't hesitate
No more, no more.
It cannot wait,
I'm yours."
I glanced at Jake as I sang the last note.
Everyone (surprisingly) clapped. (Except Belinda and Ben of course).
"Eddie! You can sing very well!" the teacher said.
"Thanks." I said. But I didn't care about the compliments.
I just cared about what Jake thought. He looked at me and gave me a small, side smile.
I sighed. At least I got some reaction.
After school, we all walked home together, including the Bensons. And of course, Steve kept bugging me.
He tried to grab my hand, when I pulled away from him.
"Knock it off!" I whispered harshly to him.
He grinned sheepishly at me. Jake heard and saw, and I swear I saw him smile a little at Steve getting rejected.
But that soon disappeared when the Bensons went their way across the bridge.
Because as soon as we began to split, Steve grabbed my shoulder and kissed me.
ON THE FREAKING LIPS.
IN FRONT OF JAKE.
AND EVERYONE.
I pulled back, my face hot, and I punched him.
"Don't ever do that again!" I hissed. "Don't you get it? I don't like you!"
"And that's why I'm still trying to win you over." Steve replied, rubbing his jaw.
Tony shook his head, and pulled Steve away from the group and across the bridge.
I turned to Jake, who had his head down, his face, ears, and neck red.
Beth and Josh, the only ones who knew about Jake and I, pulled everyone away and led them home, leaving us alone.
"Jake, I-" he cut me off.
"Don't." he said sharply and began walking into the woods.
I followed him.
"Jake! Will you please listen! You saw what happened! He kissed me! I pulled away, I hit him, I yelled, I said I like someone else! You were there!" I said.
"I know, but how do you think I feel right now Eddie? Seeing my best friend chase after my girlfriend? Seeing him kiss her? I just want to pound him!" Jake said, and turned and kicked one of the trees.
"He doesn't know we're dating!" I told him.
"I know." He muttered.
"Jake...why don't you want to tell people about us?" I asked softly.
Jake paused. "I don't know. I'm not ready, I guess."
"For what?" I asked.
"For...them to know. I don't know why, but I don't want them to know." Jake said.
I bit my lip.
"Well, you have two choices then." I said, my looking at the ground.
"What do you mean?" Jake asked, and finally faced me.
I took a shaky breath.
"You can choose to tell them, and to stop Steve from flirting, from coming after me. We can be ourselves. We can avoid hiding. Or...or we can just avoid this whole mess and just end things." I said. No matter how hard I tried, the tears still slipped from my eyes.
"What? Eddie...you don't mean...I can't loose you! No!" Jake proteseted.
"Well, if you don't want to loose me...then you know what to do. It's your choice." I said, and I turned and walked home.
Ignoring my sisters, I headed straight to my room and locked the door. I went under the covers of my bed, and I cried.
Jake's POV
I watched Eddie walk away, my heart dropping.
I can't lose her. Not her too. (By "not her too" I mean Jake's friend from my fanfic, "Smile: Jake's Story".)
Numbly, I walked back home.
Ignoring my brothers' questions, I went up to my room and closed the door.
I grabbed my phone and looked at my wallpaper. It was a picture of me and Eddie, a selfie I had forced her to take on our first date.
Sighing, I closed my eyes and turned on my music.
Tommorrow, I decided, I will hold her hand. I will hug her. I will kiss her.
And I will threaten to beat Steve if he ever touches my Eddie again.
But right now, I need to do something.
I went into the kitchen, where my brothers were eating a snack and doing their homework.
"Hey guys. I want to tell you something." I said.
"What's up?" Wally asked. Josh looked at me and raised his eyebrow.
I took a deep breath. "I'm...I'm dating Eddie!"
Peter cheered. "It's about time!"
Josh grinned. "Finally, you admit it."
Wally rolled his eyes. "I'm not surprised."
Scott just grinned.
"Look. I messed up. I made her keep it a secret. And now I might lose her, all because of Steve. I need your help." I said.
"With what?" Peter asked.
I grinned.
Normal POV
Eddie stopped crying after a while, and finally opened the door to her sisters.
They all hugged her and comforted her, and she finally told all of them about Jake.
Caroline had squealed and Ruth had said "I knew it!". Mary just smiled and hugged Eddie.
Beth had brought up some hot chocolate and cookies, and they were all in Eddie's room, having a girl fest, when they suddenly heard it.
Singing.

"What in the world?" Beth asked. She got up and looked through the window, then laughed.
"Oh my gosh! Girls! You have to see this!"
The other girls scrambled up and they went to the window. (Thankfully it was a rather large window.)
Outside of Eddie's window was Jake Hatford and his brothers. Jake sang the main lyrics and his brothers harmonized.
"Well, open up your mind and see like me,

"Gosh...the Hatfords can sing!" Caroline said, astonished.
"Eddie, go down there, he's saying he wants to be with you!" Ruth said. Eddie blinked and bolted down the stairs and right outside.
"Do you want to come on, scooch on over closer, dear
And I will nibble your ear
I've been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and I laughed.
Jake took Eddie's hands.
"I guess what I'll be saying is there ain't no better reason
To rid yourself of vanities and just go with the seasons.
It's what we aim to do.
Our name is our virtue.
Eddie bit her lip as Jake hugged her, and finished the song.
But I won't hesitate

Breathless, Jake grinned down at her.
"What do you say Eddie? Will you stay with me and let me be yours?" Jake asked.
Eddie blushed. "You're already mine, idiot..." she mummbled and kissed him.
Their siblings began to cheer and clap. Josh even whistled.
When they parted, they both began to laugh.
"Hey guys, not trying to steal the moment from you guys but..." Josh turned to Eddie's window and looked at Beth, who nodded and smiled.
"Me and Beth are dating too!" Josh yelled.
Everyone started cheering and clapping more.
"If that's the case, then Scott and Peter need to ask Ruth and Mary out and get it over with!" Caroline laughed.
Blushing, Ruth and Mary smacked Caroline on the shoulders, while Peter and Scott gave nervous laughs, also blushing, while everyone laughed.
"Who wants cookies?" Beth called out.
"ME!" Peter cried and ran to the door.
The Malloys and the Hatfords spent the rest of the afternoon eating cookies and drinking hot chocolate in celebration.
And for this moment, they were happy.
Ugh. Ick. That was so fluffy to write.
But, I heard the song playing thought it reminded me of Eddie and Jake, so I decided to lace it into the chapter. Plus, I really want cookies and hot cocoa with cinnamon, like from Once Upon a Time...
Anyways, I have a random question for you guys: How many boy readers do I have? And how many girl readers do I have? Just curious.
