Zoran Dawn-Eclipse: thanks for your review my friend.
Oscar's POV
They spent most of the day at his aunt's farm. Oscar hid himself away the best he could to make Long Memory less noticable. It was perfect but with some paint and ribbon he was able to hide the most notable features.
While he was waiting for the paint to dry he checked on the animals. As much as he would like to say he would come back he knew it was unrealistic. With everything that would happen in the next few years he couldnt risk returning. If Salem found out about the farm and the town they could be used against him. To protect his family and friends he would have to stay away.
Before Oscar didnt understand why Ozpin had felt so lonely before. A loneliness that was etched into every fiber of his being. Even in the memories where he was with his trust allies.
It was something he understood now. As a time traveler he understood it better than he did as the wizard's incarnation. To protect those you loved you had to keep them at arm's length. Otherwise they could be used against you. Or worse be turned against you like Leonardo had been.
As much as he would love to stay with his aunt for her safety he needed to go with his father. What a strange thought it was to learn that Ozpin was his father. He was still having a hard time coming to terms with it. It wasnt like he could go to the man with his concerns. At least not yet. He needed to build a repore with him. Slowly reveal what was going to happen in two years time.
When he was about to go back to his room and check on Long Memory a familiar voice shouted, "Oscar!"
Oscar turned his aura sluggishly answering his call until he recognized the older boy. It was Cobalt, his heart hurt to look at his friend. Memories of finding out he was dead still tore at him.
Putting on a false smile Oscar green in return, "Cobalt! How are you?"
Cobalt looked him up and down before replying, "I'm annoyed damn it. Oscar why didn't you tell me you would be leaving? We are best friends and you just disappeared on me."
Oscar could hear the pain in his friend's voice. It was something he understood in more ways than one. His aunt probably felt the same when he left in the future.
"I couldnt tell anyone, Cobalt," he whispered pain lacing his voice, "I shouldn't have left. Its caused so many people a lot of trouble."
Cobalt snapped, "No you should not have left," his light blue eyes softened after a moment, "But I'm glad you're okay. How are you feeling?"
Oscar raised a hand to rub lightly at the bandages as he said, "Its awkward. My aura is sluggish to respond to me. I'm not sure how to act around Ozpin. Everything I knew about myself is wrong."
Cobalt frowned, "That's where you're wrong. Your genes don't make you who you are. The Beacon Headmaster maybe your bio dad but that doesnt mean he's actual dad unless you want him to be. I remember Mr. Alex and he was a great man. He would want you to be happy whether you were his or not."
Oscar opened his mouth to argue before closing it again. Cobalt was right. Dad would have wanted him to be happy. Dad would have wanted him to give Ozpin a chance. That was what Cobalt was trying to get him to see. No amount of stubbornness could change this.
A shiver went through him at the feeling of eyes upon them. Discretely he looked around trying to find the source. There was in fact two sources.
Dr. Oobleck was watching them with an unreadable expression from the house. Upon seeing Oscar's attention he raised his chin in acknowledgement. Then turned around to head back in. Oscar didnt understand that man.
The second pair of eyes was Ozpin who was standing by the gate of the farm. It was too far for Oscar to know what he was thinking. Their eyes met and for a moment it seemed as if time stopped. Oscar could feel Ozpin's aura flare up. Oscar's own aura sluggishly tried to do the same.
Cobalt's voice brought his attention away from Ozpin, "Are you okay? Do I need to get the doc?"
Oscar blinked before he denied, "No, no, no. I'm okay there is no need to get the doctor."
"If you're sure," came Cobalt's doubtful reply.
The two talked for a few moments before Cobalt had to leave. Oscar watched him go with a heavy heart. It was unlikely he would ever see his friend again.
When they were getting ready to leave via airship Oscar hugged his aunt. She had to take a step back to keep her balance. Ozpin and Oobleck watched from a respectful distance.
Oscar promised trying to fight the tears in his eyes, "I promise I'll come back. We will see each again."
She smiled gently as she replied, "Of course you will Oscar. This is not goodbye. Enjoy your time at Beacon I'll talk to you in a week or so."
He didnt want to let her go. Leaving the farm without a word had been easier than this. The first time he left it was for the betterment of the world. Now it was to stop what had made him leave originally.
His aunt whispered softly so that only he could hear, "You will be fine Oscar. No matter what path you choose to do I will always be proud of you."
Oscar whispered, "Thank you, Auntie."
After another quick squeeze he pulled back. With his backpack over one shoulder and weapon hooked at his side he turned to face the two professors. Both men were waiting patiently not wishing to intrude on their moment.
Ozpin questioned gently noticing his approach, "Are you ready?"
"As ready as I can be. Where are we going first?"
Ozpin said with a smile, "Haven. I need to speak with their Headmaster before we head back to Beacon. We will also be meeting up with two of my former students."
Oscar had to fight his instinctive reaction to Haven. Oh, oh no. Was Lionheart already working with Salem? He really hoped not.
