AN: So I'm sorry I made a liar outta myself when I promised yall a new chapter last week and didn't post it. I was so busy helping get stuff together for our weekend away that my laptop was the last thing on my mind. So unfortunately this is the last full chapter I have written and I don't know when I will be posting again.
Chapter 30
It had been a week since Hershal had lost his lower leg and Oscar and Axel had moved into the other cell block. Daryl and Adrian had had their "talk", which had just ended up as a yelling match. Adrian understood some of his points and even told him that she had agreed but he had refused to see any of her points which just made her angrier at her blue eyed lover.
As a result of the argument Adrian did everything in her power to ignore Daryl. She didn't so much as breath in his direction for two days. But it didn't mean that she hadn't missed him.
She noticed at night how much she missed him, especially since he slept right outside her cell. What she didn't know was that Daryl had somewhat reluctantly admitted to himself as well that he missed her at night too.
Adrian could be a difficult woman when she wanted to be, he knew that, but he just wanted her safe. Yes she was capable of taking care of herself, she had been doing so for so long that he sometimes wondered if she remembered that she didn't have to now.
Daryl understood that he could protect her all the time and also had to remember that in reality, Adrian didn't need his protect. But she wanted it and it sometimes fooled him into thinking that she couldn't protect herself.
Which was why he had gotten so angry at her before. After he had cooled down though he realized that some of her point were valid ones.
They had finally made up, damn had they made up. The third night after their argument Daryl had silently been laying awake on his mattress on the perch when he noticed Adrian walk out of her cell and towards him, somewhat hesitantly as if she
wasn't sure if she was wanted there or not. Daryl decided to put her fears to rest and reached his hand up for her to let her know to lay down beside him.
It was around noon when Carol, T-Dog, Rick, Adrian, and Daryl were out in the outer yard getting the vehicles inside and planning the clean up of all of the walker bodies.
Lori had told Adrian about Rick thanking her for saving Hershal's life after the man had stopped breathing. He had told her that he didn't think she was a bad mother but said nothing of her not being a good wife.
After hearing that Adrian and Rick had been on relatively good terms and barely even argued that week, much to everyone's surprise. Glenn and Maggie were needed for the clean up but still hadn't come down from the guard tower, which was one of the few private spots to get away from everyone.
After a very awkward talk with a half naked Glenn and a very disheveled Maggie, the group was told that they would be right down.
But then sometime caught Adrian's eye from the inner yard that caused her to start jogging towards the open fence entrance. Adrian was already confronting the problem by the time the others noticed and she knew none of them were happy about it.
"Guys, I told you that you can't be seen out here!" she whispered loudly to the unwanted inmates.
"I'm sorry Adrian but were can't stay in there no more. It's just too much." Oscar told her in a apologetic tone. "We tried Adrian, we really did. But we just can't stay in there anymore." Axel told her, seeing her angry group members quickly march up behind her.
"But guys-" Adrian started before she felt a firm hand grab the back of her pants and yank her backwards towards a strong, sweaty chest. "We had an agreement." Rick said to them.
"We know that mister. But you gotta understand, we can't stay in there no more. All the bodies, and ghosts too man." Axel said in a pleading voice.
"Why ain't you moved the bodies out?" Daryl asked. "Should be burning 'em." T-Dog added. "We tried. We did." Axel said.
"Fence is down on the far side of the prison. Every time we went out there those things would show up, so we just dropped the bodies and ran back inside." Oscar explained.
"It's true Rick. I've tried helping them get the bodies outta there but the walkers pile up every time we opened that damned door." Adrian said to her leader. Rick turned and gave her a firm look and she could practically smell the annoyance coming off of Daryl now.
Oscar finally told Rick that they would rather have to hit the road then go back into their haunted cell block. Rick looked at Daryl for an answer to what he should do. She felt Daryl shake his head but Adrian looked at Rick pleadingly.
"Rick." she whispered to him but he just turned his back to look at Oscar and Axel again.
Oscar and Axel were placed in the fenced in area between the yard and the outside fence and left there. On the other side of the bus Rick, Carol, T-Dog, Glenn and Adrian were discussing the situation when Daryl walked up. T-Dog and Adrian were against Rick's decision to send the men packing.
"You seriously want them living in a cell block with us? It would only be a matter of time before they tried to take our stuff. You wanna go back to sleeping with one eye open?" Rick asked T-Dog. "I never stopped." T-Dog told him.
"Besides what are they goin' to do with our stuff Rick? They don't know anything about surviving on their own in all this." Adrian said, clearly siding with T-Dog.
"And besides you really think that only the two of them can take on all of us? I mean really." she said trying to drive her point home. "I'm with Adrian. Bring them into the fold." T-Dog told him.
"I don't know. Axel seems a little unstable." Glenn voiced. Adrian gave him a look that said "really?". "And what would you have qualified me as after the farm, Glenn?" she asked the young man making him remember her clearly unbalanced state for so many weeks after forced away from the farm.
"I don't know. It's just been us for so long that it feels weird having other people around." Maggie whispered to them. Adrian just rolled her eyes and gave a deep sigh.
"Take it easy." she heard Daryl whisper to her from behind.
"They can't even kill walkers." Glenn pointed out. "They're convicts. Bottom line." Carol said. "Those two may have less blood on their hands then we do." T-Dog said to them.
"I know they have less blood on their hands then me. I've killed whatever or whoever I've had to since this thing started. And that's exactly our point Glenn. They
can't kill walkers. And you just want to send them out there to die? You may as well go over there and plant a bullet between their eyes right now." Adrian told them.
Adrian had told Daryl how many she had killed in her life, before and after, although it had only been one person before but many more after the outbreak. Daryl had told her that she need to keep the exact number of people she had killed to herself unless the information was absolutely necessary.
"Our deal with them stands." Rick finally said, leaving T-Dog and Adrian alone behind the bus. Adrian sighed and kicked at the dirt under her feet.
"I'm sorry T. We tried. I'll do what I can for them before they're made to leave. Whatever Daryl and Rick have to say about it can be damned." she said walking away from the black man.
A few hours later they were moving the vehicles to the inner yard in case they had to make a quick escape. Rick decided to give them a weeks worth of supplies to help them out. Glenn closed the gate behind Daryl on his bike and walked away. After Glenn left Adrian walked up to them, holding out two water bottles to them. "Thanks Adrian." Axel said to the nice red head.
"So Rick's decided to give you guys a weeks worth of supplies before you hit the road. T-Dog isn't happy about it but Rick won't allow you to stay. I'm sorry." she said to them.
"There's nothing you can do about it. You were nice to us when nobody else from your group was. Sure you won't get into trouble because of all this? Helpin' us out with the cell block and pleadin' our case to stay?" Oscar asked her.
"Nah. Rick won't do anything. I don't listen to half of his orders anyway. And it's over and done with now so what's Daryl gonna do to me? Put me over his knee and spank me?" Adrian said laughing while she took a sip from her own hot water bottle.
"I don't know. Don't seem like the kind a guy that would take it ease on ya." Oscar said, slightly worried.
"Nah. Besides, spankin's not much of a punishment if you like it rough." she said laughing at their expressions and walked away.
Rick, Daryl, and Glenn decided to go out for some wood to help bur the bodies with while T-Dog and Carol went back to the inner yard and Adrian went inside to check on Lori and Hershal. Lori had went to find Hershal some crutches so he could get up and walk around while Adrian chatted with the old vet.
When Lori came back Hershal eagerly grabbed the crutches but stood up too fast and lost his balance. Beth and Lori quickly grabbed him and held him until he had his balance and then took a few steps.
"Wanna take a break?" Lori asked him, worried. "A break?" the old man said surprised. "Let's take a little stroll." he said leaving the cell he had been trapped in for the last week.
Herhsal, Lori, Adrian, Carl, and Beth made their way out to the inner yard so Hershal could take his walk in some fresh air. Maggie, T-Dog, and Carol were getting the vehicles in order and Adrian could see Glenn, Rick, and Daryl coming back in from the outside with some wood for the fires.
They had been having a good week so far and Adrian prayed it stayed that way.
But her prayers were ignored that day. Everyone had been so happy to see Hershal up and moving around that nobody noticed the growling and dragging noises coming from the walkers that were coming for them from the fenced in area between the cell blocks.
"Walkers!" Carl shouted. Everyone turned around and seen dozens of walkers coming their way. Carl started shooting the walkers closet to them while Beth and Hershal quickly made their way to the fenced off entrance to the other cell block.
Adrian didn't have her bow on her so she quickly grabbed her rarely used gun and started firing too. Maggie, Lori, and T-Dog soon joined in as well. Maggie ran over to the entrance to their cell block and hollered for Lori.
"Lori! Carl! Go!" Adrian shouted bringing up the rear when they ran towards Maggie. Adrian had noticed that T-Dog and Carol went to close the gate so no more walkers could get in but then lost sight of them. Beth and Hershal were safe in their cage and Daryl, Glenn, and Rick were running like their feet were on fire to get back to them.
Adrian quickly followed Maggie, Lori, and Carl inside the cell block and closed the heavy door to seal them in. Which turned out to be another wrong move. Maggie was just a few steps away from the door into the cell block when a handful of walkers charged out of it.
"Go that way!" Maggie quickly told them ushering Carl and Lori in the other direction. Adrian had just enough space between them that she was able to take a few walkers out before she got to the other door before Maggie closed it behind her.
"What the fuck is going on?! How did this happen?!" Adrian said, truly panicking now. "I don't know, but we need to find someplace safe to hide before we run into anymore walkers." Maggie said from the front of their line.
A few minutes later they were still walking down hallways when they heard some kind of alarm. All of a sudden Lori grabbed for the wall beside her and made a pained noise. Adrian had been just behind her so she knew what was going on.
"Oh you have to be kidding me!" she mumbled to herself, grabbing Lori quickly.
"Carl, find us some place to hide, now. The baby's coming, we can't stay here." Adrian said helping Maggie carry Lori as she started having contractions.
