A/N Hi! Sorry I updated so late! *ducks rotten tomatoes* Wow, I think that last chapter went well. I did proofread it, but after publishing it, I noticed what I used as a line in between sections of the chapter didn't show up, so I had to take it down and edit it. :( Anyway, thanks a million for reading my story! I really appreciate it! Sadly, I forgot a disclaimer last time! Oops! Just note that I only own the plot, in case I forget again in the future. Also, thanks so much to everyone who reviewed/followed/favorited. It really made my day! I have decided to put in a book/fanfic recommendation every chapter. Today's fanfic recommendation is: Going Viral by imnotsane03. It's like the best fanfic ever. Link at the bottom. Now, finally, on with the story!
"Annabeth Chase, please step forward," A man called. She had trouble reading his nametag (she was dyslexic) but she could make out something like "Mr.D, Assistant Director,"
Annabeth stepped forward. She was in Long Island for her auditions, and they were calling people in groups of 13 to audition. She was in a group with Rachel Dare, Calypso Atlas, Jason Grace, Frank Zhang, Piper McLean, Hazel Levesque, Will Solace, Nico DiAngelo, Luke Castellan, and Grover Underwood.
After she was called, Mr.D called out another name.
"Perseus Jackson, please come forward"
When nobody came, he tried again. "Do we have a Perseus Jackson? Anyone?"
"Umm excuse me? Mr.D? Percy's my friend. He should be here soon," Grover said.
"Yes, well soon is not now. He was meant to be here ten minutes ago," Mr.D pointed out in a rude tone. Grover quailed under Mr.D's fierce gaze and didn't respond.
"Since is not on time, you 12 will wait until he arrives. If any of you somehow get casted, you must always be on time, or early, never late. Let that be a lesson for you all. Now, I will start calling out names for the next group. Listen carefully. Nancy Bobofit, come forward," Mr.D called.
Annabeth stared at Nancy and the others jealously. Already she hated this "Percy" guy. Now, she might never get to audition! Okay, maybe that was exaggerating, but still. He couldn't have just gotten up fifteen minutes earlier. Was it really that hard?
She waited with the others inside the building, sitting on chairs in the entrance hall. It had been a long while. She kept checking her watch. Five minutes passed. Then ten. Nancy and her group came out. Nancy looked at Annabeth, sneered, and laughed. Was she laughing at Annabeth? Annabeth hoped not. She really didn't need another problem right now. Annabeth's dad would never take her acting seriously again if she went to an audition that she had seemed so confident about, then never even got to audition!
Finally, almost half an hour later than when the audition started, a boy with raven black hair came flying into the room. He had sea green eyes, Annabeth's favorite color. That, of course, was irrelevant.
"Sorry I'm late," the boy said breathlessly, then promptly knocked over the stack of already-turned-in resumes that was on a table by the chairs.
So this was Perseus Jackson. Interesting. Obviously, interesting bad, not interesting good. Right. Even Annabeth was unconvinced. And she was the one doing the convincing! (A/N I've noticed that my writing is usually in third person, yet I include some of Annabeth's thoughts/feelings in a way that's more like 1st person. But this is the way I like to write sooo…. Yeah that's what it's going to be like)
"Hi, am I the right place?" Perseus asked her. This question instantly reminded Annabeth why she was mad at him in the first place, and she had no trouble getting mad at him again. Was he in the right place? That was such a dumb question. Yes, he was "in the right place," but he should have been there half an hour ago! This guy was so insufferable. And annoying. And frustrating. And selfish. And… Annabeth could have called him unpleasant adjectives all day. But she didn't have that kind of time.
"No, you're supposed to be in Taiwan. Yes, you're in the right place," Annabeth responded angrily, her voice rising as she spoke.
"Ummm… do you have a problem with that?" Percy asked, clearly startled by her anger.
"I don't have a problem with you being here. I have a problem with you being here now," She retorted.
"And why is that a problem? Like, what did I ever do to you?" Percy asked, annoyed she was shouting at him for seemingly no reason.
"You're here. Now. You were supposed to be here half an hour ago. Now, everyone in your audition group- our audition group- had to wait until you arrived before we could audition. You're not the only one trying to get a part, Perseus Jackson," Annabeth snarled.
"How do you know my name?" Perseus asked.
"The assistant director said your name when we were waiting for you. Each of our names got called. Of course, you would know that if you were here. On time," Annabeth answered.
"It's just Percy. Not Perseus. Just Percy," Percy stated firmly.
"Fine, Just Percy," Annabeth responded.
Percy was about to respond when a man in a wheelchair who's name tag read something like "Cirohn- Dricoretr" interrupted their conversation. Annabeth looked more closely at the man's name tag, trying to understand what it said. Chiron, Director! That was it.
"Ah, yes, there you are, Percy," Chiron said.
"Who are you?" Percy asked. Annabeth snorted. Couldn't he read? Even though she had dyslexia, she still read his nametag that was about three feet away from Percy.
"Chiron, the director," Chiron answered.
"Umm… Sorry I was late?" Percy said nervously, afraid Chiron was going to blow up like Annabeth.
"That's alright, Percy," Chiron said kindly, "Now, all of you can audition! I'm afraid Mr.D, our assistant director, was quite harsh in not allowing you to audition until joined you. Quite harsh, indeed. Although, do try and be on time in the future. Now that that's settled, everyone, follow me!" Chiron walked out of the waiting room and into the theatre.
Annabeth instantly fell in love with it. As an architect, she was impressed beyond belief. As an actor, she was in awe. And as just a regular person, she was astounded by its beauty and sheer magnificence of the building. It had a beautiful, curved ceiling, with lots of ridges and arches. On the very top of the wall, above the curtains, there were murals painted on the wall. They were amazing. On the ceiling, there was a rim of stained glass around an absolutely dazzling chandelier. There was some gold painted on the ceiling, but not overly so, yet somehow just enough to have an elegant, majestic look to the theatre.
Chiron ushered all of them backstage where they would wait while each person would audition. After they auditioned, they would go first.
"Annabeth Chase," Chiron called. Sitting next to him in the first row was Mr.D, and another man that Annabeth recognized as Lester Papadopoulos (the writer of the play).
"Please start your audition, . You may sing your song, then say your monologue afterwards," Chiron directed.
"Okay, thanks," Annabeth responded. After that, she began to sing, closing her eyes, forgetting the rest of the world was there. She sang, hitting every note, pouring all her frustrations in her singing. She just sang.
"I was told
Every day in my childhood
Even when we grow old
"Home will be where the heart is"
Never were words so true
My heart's far, far away
Home is too"
By the time Annabeth got close to the end, she was singing not just for herself, but for everyone like her, who had never really had a home, anyone who, like her, were still wandering around, trying to find their place in the world.
"As my life has been altered once
It can change again
Build higher walls around me
Change every lock and key
Nothing lasts
Nothing holds all of me."
After she finished singing, she opened her eyes, and saw Chiron clapping, Mr.D looking at her with grudging approval, and even Lester, an award winning musician, looked impressed. After that, Annabeth said her monologue, but she wasn't worried any more. The monologue wasn't important to her, and Annabeth knew she knew the words, and knew that she said it well. After she finished speaking, she looked back at Chiron, Lester, Mr.D.
"Thank you, Annabeth," Chiron said, "We will email you later the time and date that you will come back with the others to find out if you got your parts, alright?"
"Alright," Annabeth agreed, "Umm… so I should get going, right? That's all?"
"Yes, , you may go," Chiron responded.
Annabeth walked off the stage and out a door, so that she was back in the lobby. She walked out of the building and hopped into her car. Annabeth knew she had done well, but the question was, was it good enough? With that thought circulating throughout her mind, Annabeth drove off.

Percy nervously tapped his thigh as he waited backstage. He had arrived at the audition a half hour late, got yelled out by some insane blonde girl the moment he stepped in the place, was then ushered backstage to wait to audition. Now, after that crazy morning, Percy was just hoping he would remember his lines.
Percy felt incredibly guilty for being late. Now everyone had been held back, and everyone probably hated him. The crazy girl -what did Chiron say her name was? Annabelle?- had made that much clear. "Anna...something," Percy thought, trying to remember her name, "Something fancy… it was long… kinda strange… Annabe…. Annabeth! That's her name!''
The crazy girl -Annabeth- was auditioning right now, and, man, she was an amazing singer. From behind the curtain, Percy could only catch a glimpse of her, but he could hear her very well. She sang perfectly, right on pitch. Percy had listened to clips of this song sung by professional singers, but Annabeth, she added something more to it.
Percy had ADHD, so he kinda zoned out during her monologue, but he was sure it was amazing. She was clearly the kind of girl that had a perfect everything -perfect job, perfect family, perfect house, and probably a perfect boyfriend, too. She probably didn't have anything riding on this. Of course, that would be because she knew she was such a perfect actor and a perfect singer.
"Percy Jackson, you're up!" Chiron called. "Percy, you can do it. Even though you've never gotten close to getting a job, even though you didn't go to a fancy acting school, even though all that your experience contains is school plays, you can do this! Right?" Percy thought. Worst mental pep talk ever.
Percy walked out onto the stage.
"Start your audition please, Perseus Jackson. First, you should sing your song, then say your monologue." Chiron called.
Percy began to sing. He forgot annoying girls, job-searching frustrations, and pretty much everything else in the world that wasn't his song. Percy focused on the words, and only those. Whenever he'd sung before, he had kind of forgotten the world around him, but it was always in the back of his mind. Now all his problems were well and truly gone.
"So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling, old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny-back toad
Oh, I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road"
To him, the song Goodbye Yellow Brick Road meant not paying attention to what other people want, following your own path, and really paying attention to what you want, and how to get it. Finally, Percy reached the end of the song.
"Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah, ah…"
Percy stopped singing, and looked up, startled, at the sound of clapping. Chiron was clapping, and Mr.D. and a third man Percy recognized as Lester were giving him looks of grudging approval.
"Nicely done, Percy, very well done," Chiron complimented.
Percy started his monologue. Percy knew that was good, he had practiced it a ton, so Percy wasn't nervous about that. He wasn't auditioning for a play, so the acting has to be good, but the singing has to be amazing. Soon enough, he had finished.
"Thank you, Percy. In the next few days, we will email a time and date that you should come back. It is then that you will know whether or not you got the part," Chiron informed him.
Percy walked out the door, smiling. He'd been on enough auditions to know he had done well. Still, one question loomed over him like an oversized balloon; Was it good enough?
A/N: Hey everyone, thanks for reading! Also, here's a random interesting fact I learned: Tom Hanks, who plays Forrest Gump, (No, I haven't seen it) wasn't fast enough for some of the running scenes. His younger brother had to run for him. #YoungerSiblingPride. Sorry my earlier author's note was really long, so I'll keep this short.
