Chapter 3 Journey to find the truth

:11:07pm Night time, Forest to the North:

Ren's PoV

Damn it, I should've waited till morning. Now I'm just running blindly in these woods. Luckily I haven't encountered anything that would kill me yet, but can't be too sure. I was able to find food along the way and some water from a lake. Sadly I don't have anything to store some away. Also finding some sticks and iron thorns too. Wish I had some strings so I could make a bow and some arrows. Is killing wild pokemon legal to do? I know knocking them out Is ok but still. Hearing water in the distance, believing that I'm close to a river or ocean. Waves in the same direction. I come to a clearing to see that I'm looking overhead on a cliff. The area is like a crescent online of rocks, leading up to an entrance to a cave. Must be Brine cave I'm looking for. Sliding down the rocky wall, making sure I keep my balance. Kicking off just before the ground for a safe landing. Alright, time to find out why those visions told me to come here. As I walk up to the entrance, I could feel a presence coming from within. Probably just the random wild pokemon but why do I feel something is wrong. Putting the headphones that was around my neck on my ears and pulling out my phone. Gotta have some music, otherwise it's gonna be a long booooooooring walk.

Running through the first 5 floors, barely any trouble. For being in a mystery dungeon, does feel stranger than I thought. Layout keeps changing, random items everywhere, even money is just laying on the ground. Even found a key of somesort, looks beat up and old. Strange it would be in a place like this. Almost as if it doesn't belong here. I'll keep it just in case. Going down a few more floors, I came across a few enemies I had fight off. Wasn't easy fighting in this body. Guess I should've practice sparring against something. Doesn't matter since they all go down in one hit. Every second I fight, I feel something building up. Like a burning fire waiting to combust.

Running down paths, paths, more paths, turned a corner, ran straight through a wall and finally falling down the stairs to the next floor. I then repeated this process for 4 floor till I release I wasn't paying attention what so ever of the pokemon on my back biting me. Dam fish. Smacking the water type off me, I made my way to a open room, the area is completely different then the rest. It's so open, almost like the boss area of this dungeon. Soon enough, the Masters of the floor appeared. A team of three fossil Pokemon, Kabutops trio. Kinda looks like a horseshoe crab, but with legs, and scythe claws for hands. Without warning, all three attacked with aqua jet. Taking off like bullets made of water, aiming for my life. Dodging two out of three but that third one got me good and sent me flying. That didn't hurt as bad as I thought but dam, they can pack a punch. Pulling out my phone to scan their information down. Turns out they are level 67. I can see why their the bosses here now. Getting back up and getting into a stance, bracing myself for another attack. One of them did strike again with another aqua jet. Seeing this, I pulled my paw back and right before he landed a blow, I took the shot and used focus palm right on his head. Moves collided and dust kicked up. After a sec, my move and strength was greater and was able to cancel his attack out. Dealing heavy damage to the rock type and sending him flying towards his brothers. Crashing to the wall, the predator tried to get up but fell to the floor. The other two were enraged and came at me blindly. Seeing their attacks coming, I navigate through the series of slash's that would kill me and land two more attacks onto each of them. Focus palming them in, what I assumed was, the stomach. Gakking at the blow, winding all the oxygen they had out of them. Taking this opportunity to nail them with a High jump kick, catching both my targets in one move. Sending them packing to the same wall they're friends is at. I think I overdid it, because the ceiling above them collapsed into them and crushing the water types. "Umm oops."

Finally, I found something different. I walked to a cap, the sea waves hitting the sides inside the cave hole. I can see the moon slowly going down in the distance. Breathtaking, forgetting everything that happened and just admiring the scenery.

"Seems like you're enjoying yourself" Turning around quickly to the voice to see a familiar face.

"Darkrai?! Where have you been?" The pitch black pokemon chuckled as he says he was waiting for me. Guessing he found something out. He floats over to the other side of the wall.

"Listen, I was able to track down some of the dark energy to this spot. Although, it's rather unsettling." The floating pokemon said.

Me: "That's great, let's check it out"

Darkrai: "Alright, but brace yourself. I already seen what's here and well..."

Me: "What?"

My friend went silent and shook his head. I got a bad feeling about this. Making our way pass the hidden area, the pathway was a bit difficult to get around. Getting out, we find ourselves in a large room, with old and abandoned tents, campfire, pots and

"Cages?" I say out loud.

Darkrai put his claw on my shoulder. I believe this is what he meant by bracing myself. Walking over to the old cages with an odd lock, like the key. The lock is busted off from all the rust so I'll just hold on to it anyway, might sell it. Taking the rusty lock off and open the cage. What I saw in there changed my life in the worst ways.

"Are… Are those… skeletons!?" I say shaking and terrified of the sight. The dark type comes over to pat my head.

"Yes, more than 3 dozen. Few medium size pokemon. What's worse is that most of the body's are.." Darkrai told me but I cut him off at the last part in utter shock.

Me: "Children…"

Bodies of small, baby pokemon were scattered around. Pichus, chikorita, Piplup, Munchlax, Mime jr., and even some Eevee remains. Ages ranging from 7 to 12 year olds Horrible, I almost threw up everything. Bones eaten, some smashed. Others were looked to be chewed on by several predators ripping the poor, what looks like the bones of a young Brionne. I noticed some of them chained up against the wall. some facing forward and some towards the wall. Even some are strapped onto tables. I don't wanna think what could've happened there. What caught my eye the most, was the body of a fox. Darkrai said he believes it was a Fennekin, a female at that too due to the hips. Poor thing, broken legs and most likely beaten to death. How could Pokemon do this? I thought humans were bad but this is just as horrible. The mythical Pokemon spoke up to tell me other news.

"It is horrible, yes. This poor female looks to be about 12 years old, judging by these bones. But there is something else I wanted to tell you. I found traces of the dark crystal but vanished. There is a way to find out. I need you to travel to the past and find out who and what we're dealing with." He tells me, sickened by this horrific incident.

"What? You want me to time travel. And how am I going to pull that off?" I replied back, still disgusted by what's around me.

Moving towards the entrance to this barbarian camp. Leaving this god awful place. Before I left, I felt eyes starring at me, and for a split second I turned around. Dozens of yellow eyes were locked onto me. Turning fully around to see nothing was there. Did I just see… the spirits of the children?

Coming out of the hidden passage, to back to the cape. Dawn is breaking in the sky. Some much time has passed huh. My travel partner passes me and lifts up a claw. Swinging in down, cutting the air itself. Three claw marks appeared in the air and just like that, a portal opened up. Looking back to me and telling me he had another reason for me to come here. A place I originally wanted to visit. Jumping into the hole in the air and faceplanting onto something hard. Looking around my surroundings, to see I'm on top of something. A Mayan temple of sorts, all white and on the flow is a big ancient symbol but the middle is missing. The view was outstanding, over seeing this massive juggle. Walking over to the edge of the temple to get a better look. A light reflecting into my eyes, blinding me. I look over to the source to see that the sun's light is hitting something. Sliding down this 4 story building to get a better look. What I found is something I didn't expect to see. Three gravestones, each one with a different look. Each of the graves have flowers in front and around them, honoring the fallen lives. I walked up to the tombstone on the left to see what was written. I can't read it sadly but maybe if I use the phone. Pulling out my phone and turning on my camera. Using it to translate the text. Successfully it worked. Scanning the first one, then made my way to the right. The writing says:

To Miss Celebi, a heroine from the future. Gave up her life to save our world. Gone but not forgotten.

To Mr. Grovyle, a hero from the future. Gave up his life to save our time. Once an enemy, now friend. Gone but not forgotten.

Wow, someone must've put a lot of care and work to make these. I can feel the emotions animating from the objects. I feel sad. Did I know them? I can't remember and these headaches are getting worse. Flashes of the two Pokemon that the graves are for, appeared in my head. From coming up with a plan to go into the past, getting attacked by purple Pokemon, reunited with a pink time travel Celebi. Tears flowed out of my eyes. From behind, came Darkrai and another being who spoke out. "Hehe, Not something you see everyday, huh" turning around to see a huge dragon. Blue all around and have these steel plates covering it and a blue crystal on the chest plate. Is this the master of time?

"Dialga?!" I yelled out. Guess he found my surprise funny, for he chuckled at me.

"You know, it's not every day you see someone looking at his own grave. Almost like a ghost." He said to me as I looked back. Right in front of me, the last monument in the middle, I translated it in the phone:

To my love and partner, Axel. A human who meant everything to me. Co founder of team Spitfire and Hero of time, who's life was horribly taken away. Gone and can never be forgotten.

I'm speechless. Whoever made this, I must've mean a lot to this being. A message like this is most likely from a girl. Could it be my partner? I know I had one but who or was she. I keep forcing myself to remember, anything at all. I did manage to remember some, yes it's a girl but more than that. She was an Eevee with crystal blue eyes and a smile that could warm even the coldest of hearts. But nothing more, the pain is overpowering me. I had to stop. Looking back at my grave, in a way, I noticed what seems to be paws holding a shiny object. "It's a Explorer badge."

"Yea, it's your badge." The steel type said to me.

He's right, this was mine. When I first came here and made Team Spitfire. Seeing how it's mine, I clapped my hands together and slightly bowed. A moment of silence to my fallen friends who I have forgotten. Taking the badge and holding it high in the air. The light reflecting it, someone took incredibly great care for it. Surprisingly it's flat enough to attach it to the back of my phone. And that's where it will be, until I find a better place to put it. Another thing I saw was a bag. An explorer bag with my team name inside it, along with a disc. Both legendary Pokemon were surprised to see something this valuable here. Just as I inspected the items more, my phone started going off like crazy. Taking it out to see a message on it. (Item detected, please scan.) Appearing on the screen, without questioning it, I held up the camera to the bag and began to scan it. Light bursting from the bag as it slowly started to disintegrate. A few seconds later, it was gone. The phone relayed a new message stating a new app is now available, Storage Bag. Seems like I'm able to store and take out items at will. And looks like I have already 3 items. Apple, Iron thorns and a Tech Disc. The disc had a familiar move. Tapping it and was able to replace quick attack for the new move. Concentrating the form of the attack and summon a weapon of light to use.. "Wide Slash!" Slashing the air around me a few times to get the hang of it. The dark type started to clap as the dragon type spoke up.

"Impressive. But how odd. Normally that move is just a simple beam of light with no shape. But your light does have a form." He says as the steel type ponders on what just happened.

"Yamato, a sword that can cut space itself. I just thought of a weapon I know how to use." I replied back while inspiring the blade and sheath.

The blade looks rather dull, since it's only means to defeat, not kill. I tried to imagine other weapons, but the only other one was a polearm. I heard both legendary Pokemon coughed as they tried to get me to listen up. Dialga was the first to speak.

"I am aware of why you are here and need my help. I will bestow you my most precious treasure in order to help you. With this you'll be able to time travel in certain areas where darkness has disrupted the flow." He says to me as he sticks out his chest.

A bright glow came from the blue center and a gem materializes Infront of me. Holding my paws out to accept his gift. "This is my treasure, The Adamant orb. I heard you'll be able to learn my move with this, correct?" I nodded to his question.

He gave a brief description on the move and how to channel it. It's incredibly hard to pull this off. So I'm not able to use the move yet but I can open a small portal of time at least. Seems like Legend class pokemon can't travel through time, except Celebi. Still got a lot to learn…

: Moments later:

Jumping out of the wormhole back to brine cave, faceplanting again. God, I'm starting to hate portals. Back at the entrance of the place I wish I could forget. Darkrai feels the distortion in front of us. He gives me all the information he collected. So I need to go back four years ago. That's when he believes that's how it all started. My mission is to find out who were the pokemon that attacked him. He also warned not to mess up anything for there will be unknowing consequences. Using what Dialga taught me. I have to feel for the flow and channel an energy-like ball. The ball floats up and around a few seconds till in stood still. Getting bigger and bigger, the time gate opens up. Knowing I'm still new to this and have no idea how long this will stay up, I jumped right it and sent myself in the past.

:Four years ago, Brine Cave, final room:

Faceplant* "Oh for Arceus sake, again!?!" Getting up a third time as I started to brush myself off.

So this is the past, don't see any difference. Looking around to see everything is the same. The waves hitting the same spots and laughter? The sound of others laughing is coming from the abandoned camp me and Darkrai found. Could it be? Making my way towards it, I began to sneak. Noticing two guards at the gate, the guards are Sableye. I have a very bad feeling about this. None of my fighting type moves will work on these ghosts, so my only options are Blaze Kick and wide slash. I do have some iron thorns, maybe they will work. I have 8 of them, taking two out and aiming at my targets. At full force I threw them, nailing both my targets in the head. Normally that would of just taken damage, that wasn't the case here. The thorns are inside the skulls of the two dark types that fell and bleed out.

It all hit me in a blink of an eye, I took a life. But I don't feel bad for doing it, why is that? I've always fought my battles with honor and never to kill but this is different… it's like I'm fighting a war I was dragged into.

Making it over to the dead bodies to take back my bloody thorns, I peaked through the gateway to see what's behind. Luckily no one else is around. Creeping through the entrance and into the shadows, sneaking around to find my objective. I was able to overhear some talking about their boss and his friends. So from what I gathered, it's their boss plus 6 other Bosses and a leader of the 7. The leader has 2 elite members with him all the time. I thought this was just a group of 4 Pokemon but an actual army or syndicate. The camp is mostly Sableyes, short purple Pokemon with gem eyes and some on their backs. Could only imagine who would be the leader. I heard yelling and screaming to my right. I looked in that direction to see what's going on. I was in shock to see a orange and red fur ball being kicked and punched around by 5 ghost and dark types, a Fennekin. My heart sank as I remember Darkrai said that the body of a female fox was a victim of multiple broken bones and was likely beaten to death. My blood boiling, heart beat racing, I can't sit back any longer. I know I was told to find out who these pokemon leader are but I can't stand it. Bursting from my cover with iron weapons in both paws, assassinated two out of the 5 scumbags attacking the defenseless fire-type. Their bodies hit the ground as I around up. The others yelled out, alerted the whole camp about the intruder. One of the dark types grabbed the female and took her away towards the cage to lock her up. In a matter of seconds I was surrounded by a dozen and a half of sableye. One by one they came at me with fury swipes, a favorite move they like. But each one that came close I used one of my iron thorns to kill them. It's strange, normally I wouldn't have the guts to kill a living creature. Did I really change to something bad? Using up all 8 thorns, I began to use my available moves. This time, I was able to knock them out. As I battled, more begin to take the place of their fallen brethren, until.

"Enough!! Who dares trespass into my domain!?" The group of enemies in front of my split to both sides, making the one who yelled out come through, their leader. It was a sableye but instead of a purple body, it's body was a yellowish green, a shiny.

"Seems we have a problem, Riolu. You killed some of my family, I'm gonna make your death painful." The shiny sableye said to me as I got into a battle stance.

I noticed he's a lot bigger than the others around him, something is up. Taking the first move, I unleashed a blaze kick to dark type. The move was caught by his claw, swinging me around then slamming my body against the ground.

"Is that all you got, runt!?" He mocks me as I struggle to get up for that unpredictable attack.

Shaking off the pain, I retaliate with my blade made of light. Summoning the katana, drawing the blade. "Wide slash!"

"Weak!" He shouted out as he blocked my blade with protect. Deflecting my attack then grabbed my face with his free claw. Casting a move I never heard of to my face. "Shadow wave" Sending me flying to one of the tent's, Destroying it. Dam, he F.ing hurts. The hell is his power level. Knowing its risky, I took out my phone to check my opponent's information.

"What!? How is this possible?!" I yell out in surprise.

The phone reads: Shadow Sableye. Level unknown. Weakness none, threat level 5 star. The hell is a Shadow? As I remain puzzled, the shadow Pokemon spoke up.

"It's pointless to continue fighting. I am in possession of the dark shard. With this crystal, I have unlimited power!" He pulls out a dark, purple-ly crystal.

Even from where I'm at, I can feel the negative and dark power that rests inside. So that's what happened to them. These pokemon took the crystal and shattered it into pieces, each one possession of one. How can I beat something like this? I'm gonna have to evolve to even have a fighting chance. Focusing all my energy into my body, feeling around my body. Light soon engulfed me as it made me grow bigger. Yelling out a battle cry as the light bursts from my body, revealing my new form, a Lucario. My move high jump kick turned to bone rush. Dashing towards my opponent, I summoned the bone rush staff and unleashed a 3 hit combo. Thanks to my evolve stat, my speed is faster giving him no time to block. After the third hit, I gave him a revenge Blaze Kick to the face. That got him good and was sent flying only to land in a fire pit, burning his body badly. The ghost type yelled in pain as his body slowly being burned. Trying to get up and out, I rushed over to him and pinned in down with the polearm. I want him to take as much damage as possible or better yet knock him out. The dark type grabbed my weapon and broke it, shooting straight up and tackled me. Both of us getting up, I can see in his gem eyes turned red.

Yelling in anger and hate. "Why you cocky kid!? I'm done screwing around. I want you dead now!!"

In a flash, strange purple aura came out of nowhere and surrounding him. A rock formation also started to form into a ball. I can feel bursts of power getting stronger by the second. Completely engulfed by this rock, it started to crack open. Busting through, the Sableye underwent a form change into his powerful stat, Mega evolution. Seeing how our power difference once again change in his favor, I had to figure out what could I do to beat him. I haven't even figured out how to mega myself nor do I know to transfer my power into human form. Just went I was back up against the corner, I was blind sided by a shadow sneak from this tricky opponent. Getting slashed in the back that sent me forward, Mega Sableye dash towards me and delivered a Zen Headbutt. That hurt incredibly bad, it wasn't super effective due to the steel typing but it hit me in the stomach. Sending me crashing against the cages. With force like that, I'm surprised it didn't break.

As I lay here, defenseless, I can see the blood rage of a killer walking over to me with that giant crystal he uses. I felt something tap my shoulder, it was one of the prisoners handing me a seed. Telling me to eat it, it was his special seed he was gonna use to break out with. Without question, I threw the seed in my mouth. Suddenly, I feel very different. I feel lighter, faster. What kind of seed was that? Just then, purple aura started to surround me and I was now being captured in a rock like cocoon. I feel my body changing, it hurts, the pain, the power. Breaking out of that rocky prison, I find myself incredibly stronger. The ghost type flinched in fear of what just happened. In an instant, I vanished. "Wide slash" appeared from behind with a blade in hand, I slashed at his already messed up back covered in burn damages. I took four more blows to his back and then blaze kick him upwards. Sheathing my katana, I summoned bone rush and jumped into the air. Passing him so I'm above, twirling my pole then striking downwards into his chest with a jab strike. Both of us came crashing down at high speeds, taking out an area of the camp. Seeing how he's still alive, it's best to get some answers. Noticing an iron thorn next to me, I placed it right above his next.

"Talk! I want answers. Who are your friends and what are you plotting to do with the dark crystal!" I demanded the defeated Pokemon, his form turned back to normal.

All he did was laugh as hit pointed to the cages. Summoning a shadow ball aimed for it. (No! He plans on killing them! Damn it, I need answers, not this.)

Without thinking further, I plugged the steel dagger in his throat, killing him. The shadow faded and disbursed. The remaining soldiers that stayed to watch the fight, ran for their lives thanks to having no leader. Damn it, I failed my mission. But at least they are all safe. Getting up from the ground, I made my way over to the cage. My form started to revert back to Lucario, then to my little form. Getting up to the cages, I began to Inspect it.

"Alright everyone. It's gonna be ok. I'm gonna bust this cage wide open." I enlighten the pokemon locked away

Just as I was going to smash the lock open with wide slash, everyone told me to stop. I stopped before I could do anything. Asking why they want me to. One of them came up to the cage, a Hattrem. "Please Mister, Do not break anything on this cage."

Me: "Why not?"

"If anything happens to this cage, we all will die." She spoke out in sadness. I was in shock, how is this possible. Is it booby trapped with something? "The Sableye placed a kill curse on the cage if anyone would break out forcefully. They had a key that could dispel it but the one with the key ran away." She continues to say.

Crap, did I just ruined their hope? I feel horrible now. Not only did I fail to get more information, but now I'm responsible for the death for everyone. Dam it. Just when things started to look grim. Everyone is telling me to turn around quickly. I do so and see the corpse of the Pokemon I just killed doing something. Purple and black colors swirling around the body, as the crystal of darkness is lifted up by levitation. Cautiously, I walked up to the negative gem and held out my paw. The crystal started to move on its own to my paw.

Holding the power of darkness in my paws, I start to feel deep, dark, and destruction feelings. Like I want everything around me gone and destroy. In my head, I feel this conflicted battle. As much I want to ruin everything, I made a promise to protect others and to find someone dear to me. If I fall now, I'll never find out who I am to everyone. Fighting back the evil within, I thought of the light and hope I have in my heart. The feeling of joy and happiness I felt years ago. Pouring all the positive emotions inside me into the stone. Pushing the darkness out. During this, I heard a voice talking to me from my mind.

"Aah The darkness welcomes you, Mister Hero. We will talk again, real soon." A mysterious voice whispered to me before going quiet.

The object's black and purple coloring and shape started to morph into a red, crimson and flat square gem. The light coming from the beautiful gem that shines brightly, gives out a warm, hopefulness and power. Just holding is giving me strength I never felt before. I feel calm, in control. Now that my mind is back to normal, I turn back to the cage. Looking at it from all angles. They mentioned a Sableye with a key for the lock. Looking at the lock, it's the exact same one that I saw in the present. I then remembered the key I picked up and never used it. Taking it out of my pocket, I inserted it into the lock. Everyone inside was shocked at how I have a key. The lock breaks apart, lifting the curse away. Cage gates opened, as everyone came out, free at last. The pokemon that talked to me before, Hattrem, came up to me.

"Thank you so much. All these children and I can finally leave this horrible place. Most of these children are from a school I work for, I'm the vice principal at the Mystery dungeon academy. Please, if you ever need anything from us, we will help you in any way possible. May I have your name, Riolu?" The thankful Female asked me.

I told her who I was and accepted her offer to help me out one day. Looking back in the cage, I see that one Pokemon is lifted in there. Even the Fairy-Type was worried about her student not coming out and scared. I walk over the little Fennekin.

"Hey, are you alright? They didn't hurt you too badly or any broken bones?" I asked her.

She backed away a bit and stuttered her works. Whimpering a bit as she tries to find the words to say.

"...um ah T-t-thank you. I'm ok. Are you gonna hurt me too?" I shook my head no.

This poor girl must have suffered a lot. I reached my paw out to the fire type. She bowed down and closed her eyes, putting her tiny paws on top of her head. I placed my paw on the fox's head, and started rubbing it. She eek in surprise of something gentle rubbing her. Haven't felt something like this in a long time, trigger her tears to flow from her amber eyes. Asking for her name as I pulled out an apple for her to eat. She looks really skinny, must've been starved, the poor thing. Eyes lighting up with color that was fading away, now returning. The vixen said that she doesn't have a name to be called by.

"Alright, How about I give you one?" I asked the little girl. Ears perked up when I asked that. Noticing the little yellow tail swishing around. "How about…. Amber. Because of those eyes of yours." A blush came across her white fur cheeks.

Looking away shyly, nodded yes to the name. I gave the vixen one last pat and told her my name. Getting up and returning to the group. The shy Fennekin following to return to the classmates. I walked over away from everyone so I can use the move Dialga taught me to open a time portal. As I tired to use the move, the gem in my pocket started humming a noise of somesort. While hearing that, the attack I struggled hard to use, fired at full power like Dialga himself used it. Opening a time rift as I fall flat on my as in surprised. Now that it's open, I turned back to everyone. Pulling out an orb and threw it, it was an escape orb I found in the camp at them. Sending everyone but me out. As the light started to send everyone, one by one, the Fennekin now named Amber spoke up.

"T-thanks again. I will never forget your kindness. I hope I will meet you again. I-i-i like you too!" I smiled at her and took the gem out of my pocket. I tossed it over to her and told her to keep it close to her heart.

"We will meet again someday. Just hold on to that for me and take great care of it." I said back to her.

She smiled back with hope in her eyes as she replied yes. And just like, she went with the rest out of the mystery dungeon. Glad I was able to save those kids. Now to return to Darkrai and Dialga. Jumping in the portal, I realize two things.
