Chapter 5 Test your strength

Snow's PoV

I tossed and turned all night. Can't seem to get any sleep. Just my luck too, first day of classes and I'm gonna be restless. After so long, I finally fell into a deep sleep. But that was short lived when my roommate made a loud sound I never heard before.

"Shit! I thought my headphones were connected and damn the volume is loud." He said to himself as he tries to fiddle around with whatever that thing is.

I noticed a Explorer badge on it but it's so blurry I can't tell it's rank. Looks silver-ish but I slowly started drifting back to sleep to see clearly. Just when I thought I was gonna sleep, the dorm alarm went off telling everyone it's to get up.

"Ugh, dam it…" I say to myself as I roll out of bed.

The pokemon in charge of waking everyone is an Exploud. Much louder than Loudred at the guild. Going into the wash room, I splashed some water in my face to help me wake up. Grabbing a towel to wipe the water off, I look at myself in the mirror. "Ok Snow, you got this. Remember, You're doing this for your crush."

"Talking to yourself there, buddy? Hope you're not going crazy on me." I jumped in place and quickly turned around to see my roommate who snuck up on me.

He chuckled a bit before handing me some Chesto berries. Told me that I'm gonna need them today. He wasn't wrong, I did need this today. Popping one in my mouth, I went over to my bag to pack it for the day. Since I already packed the night before, All I had to do was to put a few chestos for later and I'm all good. Right before I opened the door, I called out to Axel. But I didn't get an answer and he doesn't seem to be here. When did he leave? Doesn't matter. I was told

that all students had to go to the Stadium for orientation. That shouldn't be too bad. The principal is gonna give a boring speech that no one is gonna listen too and a brief summary of school rules. With that said, I headed out to the training stadium for the opening ceremony. Maybe I'll fall asleep during it.

Luna's PoV

"Ok, got my badge, got my bag and lunch. Yup, all ready for class." I say to myself as I continue to get ready.

Now that everything is packed, I go over to the mirror in the bathroom and brush my fur a bit. Over time, I eventually managed to hold a brush so I could do this. Wasn't easy at first when I was an Eevee but when I evolved, it became a bit easier. Not only that, I bought a special type of brush so that quadruple pokemon like me can hold them.

"There, all done. Now for the ribbon." After all that, I reach over to grab a light green ribbon with dark green ends.

Tying it to my left ear was a bit of a challenge, but I managed to get it on. Next were things called "stockings". Not really sure why I need these on. I was told it's part of a uniform for students and stuff to wear. These pieces of fabric go on all four of my limbs but still expose my paws. I sort of feel weird yet girly with these on. A note was with them when it was given to me. The stockings have special properties thanks to Ruby's magic. As long as we wear these, our physical and special defense is increased a lot and for female students and staff, it does an additional effect for those in their heat cycle. It generates an aura that masks the scent of females in heat so males don't go crazy. Guess that is a good thing since we are at a huge school with tons of students crammed into rooms. I had to admire these garments for how well they're made and abilities they hold within. Looking back at the time and sure enough, it's time I head out.

:Hour later, training stadium, 8:30am behind stage:

I look out the curtains to have a peek of the students. There had to be about 150 at least, maybe more. All different kind pokemon. I actually tried very hard to play "Find the white Vulpix". Looking, looking, looking and soon enough, I spotted my best friend. He's so far away and can't barely see him. I felt a tapping on my shoulder from someone getting my attention. Turning around to see my new temporary boss, Ruby. Notifying me that we will be starting in a bit and how cute I look in my outfit. I got a bit embarrassed and thanked her for the compliment. I didn't have much of a chance to meet the other staff members. Now would be a good time too. The staff is made up of 12 teachers, 7 males and 5 females including me as one, the principal and vice. I had a chance to greet a few of them. Mr.Aron, a male Aggron, He seems pretty nice but I heard he has a temper and teaches type biology. Mr.Emboar, a male, also teaches it. Some of the teachers teach similar classes but in different ways. Then there's Ms.Lulu, a female Lilligant who teaches medical and plants that can be used for medicine. And lastly, Ms.Moewstic who teaches item usage and making. She tends to be very quiet. I noticed that not everyone has a name or maybe they prefer their species name.

Finally, it's time to go out. I'm actually starting to get nervous. Looking back at Ruby and her assistant going through the last of the paperwork. She looks a bit worried about something. Looking at the clock and back at all of us like one of use is missing. I got curious and did a mental count. 11 teachers including me, Ruby and her assistant that makes 13. So, there is someone missing. Wonder who it is? Ruby heads out for the opening announcement, followed by calling all of us out. The eleven of us split to both sides. Five stand on the left and six to the right of the stage. Would of been even if it wasn't for a late pokemon. Shortly, our boss announced our names in order. When our name is called, we step forward, take a bow then step back in place. But still no sign of the last teacher. Just as the last Pokemon to bow and stand back in place, Ruby announced that she has a special substitute teacher who will be teaching in various fields. "Now, without further ado. I'd like everyone to meet.."

"Hey now, ain't this a bit much?" The principal was interrupted by a young male Riolu who came out from the curtains.

He's wearing an outfit similar to our's. I feel like I've seen this pokemon before. Those eyes, green with blue crescent rings. It's almost as if they're changing color. He walks over to stand in line next to Mr.Aggron. Looks like he got annoyed by someone who looks very young. "Hey, Students are not allowed here. Get over to where you belong, kid."

"This is where I belong. So Shut it, old man." He fired back with a glare.

Clearly those too will not be getting along well. You can hear the chatter of the students talking and gossiping about the young male who's up here with us. Wondering why is he up here and is he a teacher. I also heard my name a few times, but nothing like the way it's like with him. Ms.Ruby walked over with the mic and asked to introduce himself.

"Ugh, Fine. My name is Ren, substitute teacher, I'll be in several classes for a while." He said to everyone on the mic.

So his name is Ren and was the missing teacher. But, he looks to be the same age as me. I wonder… Have we met before?

: Afternoon, lunch time:

That was a rather long opening ceremony. I still can't believe it lasted 4 hours. At least everything that was said was about school rules, places we can and can't go. Student ID badges that are similar to explorer badge, and class days and days off such as holidays and weekends. Classes are held at 9am to 4pm for students but teachers stay another hour or so. For right now, all the teachers, including me, are in a meeting going over the schedule for the coming days. For the rest of the week, I'll be teaching about seed type item usage. Which I'm ok

with since I did use a lot of items to make up for my lack of strength. I overheard the vice principal, Lucy, giving Axel his job for the day. He is to guide some of the students in training with moves. The pokemon he'll be assisting is a fighting type, Sawk. If I'm not mistaken, Snow's first class is that. I hope everything will be alright.

Snow's PoV

Boy, that took way longer than I thought it would be. Thankfully it's over. Before we all left, we were handed our class schedules for the year. I hope it's not a year of doing this. Once they find a replacement for Luna, our job is done. Of course we still have normal assignments like job requests. My classes for now this week are training, item usage, biology, basic math, environmental science and lastly cooking. It was either that or medical. I would get very bored with that. Training in the mornings is gonna suck big time. I'm already a bad sleeper but an even horrible fighter. Really not looking forward to it. Everyone has the first 3 classes this afternoon today due to the opening ceremony. The location for the class is held in a dojo that fighting type Pokemon build to train in. Shocker, it's not something else. There's about 30 other students here at this time. As we walk in, we are greeted by the teacher, Mr.Sawk, and we're told to take seats anywhere. I went to the far back of the class so I could blend in. Took a bit for everyone to settle down. Females are sitting together and gossiping about anything, most of the big males are flexing and comparing strength and then there are some who prefer to stay quiet and think. Few seconds later, finally have someone who's gonna be sitting with me for this class. I looked over slightly to see who it is. What I saw was a beautiful, stunning fox on her black heigh legs, glissing gold and white fur, big fluffy orange tail with a red tip and a stick in it and most of all those amber colored eyes that puts actual amber stones to shame. A Braixen, I could tell that it's a she for the way she walks, fur accessories on the big, fluffy ears and lastly that ruby pendant on her chest. It seems that a lot of the males in class are eyeing her like joy seeds. Great, just what I need. A popular female that people will stare and constantly be around. I hate crowds, makes me feel uncomfortable. The female took her seat next me and placed a bag next to her tail. The teacher called out to all of us for our attention. A small interdiction of who he is, what he'll be teaching us and today's practice test. The test is for everyone to pair of two and battle one on one till one admits defeat or knocked out. It's a bit cruel but when you think about it, we are fighting life and death in the dungeons. When the fighting type told us to find a partner, several males flocked to my seat neighbor. Begging to pick one of them to fight. I was about to get up and find someone who I could beat but faith said other wise. I was grabbed from behind around my neck and pulled into a fluffy and soft fur chest. It was the fire type that was surrounded by others.

"Sorry, But I already found a partner and this vulpix is him." She said to everyone.

All pissed off, depressed, and possibly plotting to get me. A second later they disbursed to find new prey. Turning back to the big fox who apologized for doing that and asked me if it was ok to partner up. I guess it wasn't a bad idea. Saves me the trouble of looking. Only downside is type advantage, she's fire and I'm ice. This isn't gonna be easy. Moments later, everyone is paired up. All but one.

"This is an outrage! Is everyone just afraid that I, Ragnarok, will beat you like the rattatas like you all are!?" A big butt yelled out in fury.

The lone Pokemon is a Garchomp. Real bad attitude, believes he is the best out of all of us. Tall fish like dragon with jagged teeth and a rough body that's very dark colouring. Find on both arms that have a single claw for a finger and a huge fin on his back with a scar. Lashing out towards everyone, including the teacher. Mr.Sawk is trying his best to calm the pissed out ground type but to no anvil it only enraged him more.

"Hehe look at the big old dragon throwing a tempertrum like a little kid." A voice called out to the two.

Standing in the doorway with his back against the frame was my roommate and substitute teacher, Ren. Acting smug and taunting the dragon.

"To settle this, I'll fight you and it will be the first practice match." Ren said as he pulled out a weird rectangular object.

The Garchomp chuckled at the thought but accepted anyway to take his anger out on something. Both fighters got into the battle area where the match will be held. Axel spoke up as he held out that black thing, pointing it at his opponent. "So that's your status, huh? Not bad.

Name: Ragnarok. Species: Garchomp, Shiny. Age: 32. Power Level: 63. Type: Dragon and Ground. Ability: Sand veil. Moves: unknown. Explorer rank: Gold, expired.

So, you're here to renew your license. Good luck with that attitude." The fighting type called out as he revealed all the information he got on him.

This caused the jerk to sweat a bit. I'm impressed by how he was able to get some much info on his target just by one look. I wonder, who exactly is he? A faint voice came from my right where my battle partner is.

"Could it be? Is he the same Riolu?" The Braixen said to herself in a whisper.

I looked over to her to see how fixated her gaze is on Ren. Almost as if she knew him or was looking for him. I think she's also happy because I think her tail is hitting me from all that swishing. She noticed what she was doing and apologized for the hitting. The battle is about to begin, is he gonna be able to win?

Third person PoV

The crowd was silent, all eyes were on the big Garchomp named Ragnarok versus a small Riolu named Ren. The referee of this fight called out the names of both Pokemon by name as he

explained the rules. Stepping out of the ring results in a loss, no life threatening moves unless you hold back, and no breaking limbs. With that said both opponents ready themselves for a fight to assert dominic. Some of the pokemon in the crowd whisper to one another on how much the bigger one is gonna kill the pup. Some even making jokes. While two individuals were starting to chat about the match to themselves. Snow is still puzzled yet worried about the fighting type going up against someone who is not only bigger, but stronger.

(This isn't going to end well for him. What was he thinking taking on a pokemon like that?) Snow thought to himself.

However the cheerful Braixen, Ruby, was speaking low about how the Riolu is gonna win. Just low enough so that the Vulpix next to her can hear.

"If it's truly him, He's gonna beat him no problem. Those garments, the things on his neck and that scarf. He looks exactly the same four years ago. Ren saved my life." She said to the white fox who is stunned to hear something like that to someone he doesn't know at all.

A moment later, a see through barrier was put up around the fighters to protect those outside the ring out line so any that have range moves are welcome to use. It was close for the two to face off. Eyeing each other to see who will make the first move. Just before anything happened, Axel called out to Snow with some words of wisdom.

"Hey Snow, watch closely. I noticed you're not really that strong in combat, are you? Let me give you some tips." The fighting type says as his opponent made the first move with a Dragon claw. The dragon type rushed his right claw up and struck diagonally. Ren pulling his body back and sideways, narrowly dodged the attack with ease and continued to talk. "Wait for an opponent to strike first, then avoid the attack. If done right, you can do something like this. Blaze Kick!" The fighting type says as he counterattacks.

Delivering a blazing fire of an attack to the Garchomp's stomach. The bigger pokemon fell onto one knee and clutched his stomach. Normally fire doesn't do well at all against dragon. But in this case, he wasn't going for damage. "You can counter attack. Since he tried to inflict damage to me, a bit of his guard was down in some areas like the stomach and legs. Making it easier to deal staggering damage. Then follow it up with another attack like so. Focus palm." A powerful aura palm attack landed right in the jaw of the staggered opponent who's still holding his stomach.

Sounds of the impact echoed the entire room. His target was sent flying towards the corner of the ring. Garchomp recovered in mid flight, saving him from being ringed out. The audience was stunned by what just happened. Never in their dreams they would see something like this coming true that a small pokemon like a Riolu to deal such damage. Snow was surprised the most to see that his roommate, who he thought was weird, could be so strong and is even giving him tips about fighting.

"Tip two, watch for body movement. Some attacks you have to take either a stance or flex the body in order to preform a move. This will tell you when an attack is coming and what kind." Ren continued to speak to the observers.

And I'd if on cue, Ragnarok rises his left claw this time and slammed It to the ground calling out the move Stone Edge. Pillars of blue rock raised from the ground as commanded to impale it's target. One after another they appear but the aura fighter was just toying with his attacker by jumping onto each of the blue stones that tried to hurt him. He even smashed one on purpose just to piss off the dragon. In fury, he charged at Ren while preparing another move, Dragon claw.

Ren: "Tip three. Provoking your opponent is good, yet bad. By making them angry, they'll become reckless and leave themselves more open to attacks due to their guard being completely gone. Downside is, they become unpredictable and faster. Like a Miltank using rollout."

The Garchomp unleashes a barrage of attacks, swinging wildly. In all his attempts, none have landed a blow. For every attack, Ren countered with just focus palm. Didn't take long for Ragnarok to tire out. However, there was one more thing the Riolu had to say.

"Last and most important tip. Never forget this no matter what happens." He said as he high jump kicks the dragon one last time in the face. Blood started to come out of his nose. Grabbing his neck and putting the bloody opponent in a dangerous head lock, along with a silver spike that's sharpened and already piercing the neck. "NEVER take another living being's life!" He yelled, as he pulled away his weapon from the scared pokemon.

Pulling the object away and releasing his prisoner who passed out in shock and fear. The match was declared over and Ren was the winner. The walls came down so that the medics came rushing in to carry the injured off to sick bay. The aura pokemon walked over to Sawk and told him he's going to take a nap up on one of the wooden beams up about. The teacher sighed as said a promise is a promise as Ren jumped up to a spot and got comfortable for the remaining class time.

Snow's PoV

Well that was eventful. Still baffles me to think he's just that strong. If that Garchomp was level 63 and he took him done with ease, Ren's level must be over 80 at least. But how, he's only around my age!? Then again, Luna is also over 80… This sucks, compared to those two, I really am the weakest here with being a mir 16 in strength. I feel hopeless that I don't believe I would get any better. Still, Axel called me out on my weak level and even gave me those tips on fighting. Why would he do that and how on Gaia would he know my level? He did that weird thing to that dragon type so it must be a special skill or trick he uses. The rest of the class continued on like normal, except for me when my partner who couldn't focus on our dual but stared at the sleeping pokemon above us. Even though she wasn't fully paying attention, I still lost by a single flamethrower that covered the whole area. How was I supposed to dodge that?! As the day goes by, I went to each of my classes and preformed the same test from the first class. The reason why is that they are evaluating our strengths, weaknesses, form and mind. To make this short, I lost each of my matches. Even against a stupid grass type I still lost. Maybe I should ask Axel for tips. Since all classes are done for the day, time to head back to my room and find something to eat.

: Moments later, afternoon:

Opening the door to my temporary home just to head into the kitchen. I hear water running so I'm guessing Ren's back too. Grabbing an apple, I take a seat on the hay bed which is my bed. Today wasn't so bad. Sure, my roommate went overboard beating the crap out of that Garchomp. A knock came to the door and a familiar voice answered out.

"Snow, are you home?" It was Luna, my best friend and partner.

Before I could get up and open the door, Ren came out of the bath with a towel over his neck and..

(What the hell!? Why is his member out!? Oh no...LUNA!!) I say to myself I try to bolt up to stop him, but my clumsy self tripped over a book and face planted.

Damn it, why was that there!? The aura fighter made to the door to open it. Opening it as he spoke.

"Hello? Can I help.. Oh a Leafeon." My roommate casually answered the door without realizing the situation.

"Oh Hello Ren, I didn't know you were Snow's roommate. I actually came by to.. see… Eeeek!?!?" Luna replies back but started to freak out and quickly covered her eyes when she started looking down.

To her, she saw a wet Riolu who just came out from a bath and something that she shouldn't have. The green and tan colored Leafeon's face turned a beating, bright red at the sight of the male organ. Ren was clueless to why she got embarrassed. Til it started to click in his mind and looked down. A small blush came to his face as he covered up and apologized to my best friend. After a brief moment of silence, He invited her in for some tea. Bowing quietly and walked in and over to sit on the couch. I get up and run over to her to greet and join her. Her face is still red, looks like she's still embarrassed. My roommate came in and sat a cup of tea down with herbal calm leaves I had saved. I can't believe him! Luna snapped out of her trans and drank her tea.

Luna: "Thank you for the tea, Ren. And Snow, I actually came by to see how you are doing so far."

Ren: "No problem, and sorry again. Snow, when were you gonna tell me this Leafeon is your girlfriend?"

Me: "Eeh!?! S-She's not my girlfriend! She is my explorer partner, Luna. Thank you for checking up on me. I am doing just fine so far."

Ren: "Luna? So that's you're name. Pretty cute, yet why do I.. Nah, it's probably nothing."

Luna: "Yea,Snow isn't my boyfriend. But thank you for the compliment. Like he said, I'm his partner in our team, Wintergreen."

The three of us chatted till the sky turned dusk. Bidding farewell to Luna. Hopefully she'll be ok getting home. Ren assured me that at night, the security guards help escort females at night. Both dorms have security office at the entrance. Guess I don't have to worry too much.

"Finally, I can relax in my bed and… " Just when I was gonna fall asleep, more of that pain in the ass music started playing again.

"Shit, my bad Snow. Damn thing." He says to me, Ugh this better not be a nightly thing.

Evo: Hey there. Sorry this one was took forever. Things haven't been good lately. A family member just went through surgery and now is in recovery. It's taking a big emotional toll on me so it's gonna be a bit harder to write without a clear mind. Till next time *waves*
