Chapter 3: Familiar?
Third Chapter in my reimagined story! Hope you enjoy the changes! Let me know if you're a fan of my new writing style. :)
I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THE CHARACTERS. THEY BELONG TO JIM HENSON!
"Ouch!" I yelled as I swatted the Fairy away. I always assumed fairies were supposed to be nice.
"Bite you didn't he?" I turned to find a small goblin-ish creature looking up at me with great disdain.
"Who are you?"
"Name's Hoggle, can I help ya?"
"You can start by telling me where the entrance for this stupid thing is."
"Well I..."
He was cut off by Jareth, who appeared suddenly through thick fog.
"Ah ah aaa, Higgle you mustn't help Toby. He has to find it on his own. And this time,I mean it. You can not help him." Jareth said with a dirty smirk.
"Oh come on! This is the furthest thing from fair!" Why can't Hoggle help me? That dumb king knew this was my best chance and he ruined it. At this rate I'll never save Sarah!
"Now Hogwart if you help Toby in anyway I'll drop you straight into the bog of eternal stench!" Jareth threatened before suddenly vanishing as quickly as he had appeared.
"It doesn't matter if Hoggle helps me, I'll save Sarah all on my own. I have to. She'd do it for me!" I tried my best to sound brave but I was terrified. I turned to walk off in any direction but towards the place the goblin king had just been standing.
"Oh Toby, she already has.." A faint tear seemed to pool in the corner of his eye but he wouldn't let it fall.
"What was that?"
"Oh nothin' I just said good luck." and with that the small goblin turned on his heels and wandered off to do whatever it was his job seemed to be around here..
What a strange creature. As I walked along I began to hope for all the luck I could get on my side for this trip. I'm going to need some and lots of it to find Sarah.I continued on my way down the side of the Labyrinth grazing my hand across the wall searching every nook and cranny for the entrance.
After finally getting the tears to stop, I realized just how itchy this dress had come to be.
I looked around the throne room to find Jareth but he wasn't there. I got up and walked over to what looked to be a door and pulled on it as hard as I could. It wouldn't budge.
"Jareth? Where are you?" I called out to the room, a little embarrassed to be asking him for help. No sooner had I finished did Jareth appear to me.
"What is it? Are you ok?" and for a second, I could have sworn I saw a twinkle of worry on his face but upon seeing I was fine he relaxed into his stony expression.
"This dress is ridiculous, what did you do with the clothes I was wearing." I refused to wear these ridiculous outfits. I may be stuck here but I still have my own free will.
"Oh but why, you look fashionable enough to be a...Queen?" What surprised me was the realization that hed made it a question, not a statement.
"A Queen my ass, Jareth!" This was going to be an exasperating 13 Hours.
"Such a pity, if you were my queen all the other royals would envy my bride." He laughed.
"I'm over this conversation." I gripped. I turned toward that same door I had discovered earlier to begin the task of somehow opening it. I pulled once more on the door and much to my disappointment it was still locked. I pulled two more times in desperation and the third time I pulled the door sprung open and all but slammed into my nose. Pain surged toward my face and I threw my hands up to hold my face. They felt wet, and when I glanced at them I saw the crimson sign of blood.
"You broke my nose, you ass" I said through gritted teeth. All Jareth could do was a half decent cover up of the giggles he was trying to hold in.
"No my sweet, you broke your own nose. I simply unlocked a door." he tsked at me as I began to use the sleeves of his ridiculous dress as gause to catch the blood from my nose.
"Come come you'll ruin the pretty gown I've made you."
"Serves you right, I never asked you to make it but if it's such a concern for you, possibly try providing me with some medical attention?!" the attitude was all but solidified in my voice.
"Fine, if you insist." was all he said before he snapped those fingers of his and suddenly I had two little female goblins rush in from the very door that caused my problems.
They demanded I sit while they cleaned my face with warm rags. Once they had taken care of removing the blood, they set to work rubbing a horrendous salve onto the bridge of my nose. It stung like hell but before long I was numb and the little goblin woman pressed her hand to my nose and with a pop, she grinned and said I was good as new. They both scurried out from under me and with a quick bow to Jareth, they were out the door before I could even say thank you.
"Uh what just happened?" Was all I could think to say, my nose felt practically good as new and there was barely any swelling, it was like nothing had happened. Well aside from the giant red spot that now soaked my sleeve.
"You asked for medical attention, those two are my best" He turned to look me up and down before hardly stifling another giggle of laughter.
"My my Sarah, you are a disaster."
"Oh this just isn't fair..." I mumbled quietly.
She wasn't happy with my choice of outfits that's for sure, but I can't say I minded it. The poor girl though, I had no intention of breaking her nose, but she'd been the one to pull the door so hard.. And yet covered in blood, and wild anger plastered across her face, she was still just as beautiful and even more frightening.
As I sat in my throne watching my crystal ball, Toby by some miracle, found the entrance to my Labyrinth.
"Interesting, Sarah, Does Toby know he was wished away to me before?"
"Well..." She Hesitated. She hadn't told him. Why would she not tell him?
"I already know what you're thinking Jareth, no I didn't tell him because I didn't want this exact thing to happen but I guess you can't prevent everything."
"So does that mean he doesn't even know how to defeat me?" This couldn't get any better, if he doesn't know how to defeat me than dear Sarah here will have to stay with me. Just the thought brought a smile to my face, but when I saw her eyes fall to my mouth I quickly turned it to a scowl.
"Not necessarily, I mean he must've read my book in order to even know how to call upon you." This was true. That means if I'm going to keep Toby from rescuing Sarah, I'm going to have to make my Labyrinth as hard as possible. I already told Higgle to not help Toby, I hope he listens to me...
Author's Note: :) I love feedback so don't be afraid to tell me something isn't very good! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STICKING WITH ME!
In any case this chapter is the most drastic change from its original, in comparison the other two which had only minor wording and format changes. I decided to cut some of the tension I had originally introduced between Jareth and Sarah and wanted to go in a different direction with my portrayal of Sarah. I also would like for readers to acknowledge that Sarah is around college age or maybe a bit older. She is ABOVE high school age. Let me know how y'all are enjoying the reimagined series!
