Having placed his phone back down onto his chest to wait for a response, Dabi closed his eyes and let out a sigh as his head rested back on the armrest of the couch.

He'd almost drifted off into an uneasy sleep before his phone vibrated a little longer than ten minutes later, startling him out of the groggy haze.

Unsurprisingly, some of the members of the League were up at this hour of the night, so he got more than just one response to the linked video.

[3:17 am] crusty hands - you need to get a hobby

[3:17 am] sender - like any of you guys have one?

[3:18 am] knife chick - rude, dabi!

[3:18 am] knife chick - izuku is looking so cuteeeee tho~

[3:18 am] sender - why did i expect you to focus on anything else

[3:19 am] crusty hands - it's not true, is it

[3:19 am] sender - no. i just thought it was amusing

Still, even though he said that it wasn't true, Dabi did have his doubts. They were strong enough to eat away at this sense of calm, though not strong enough to stave away the fact that it was three am and Dabi had over extended himself.

Dabi was woken up yet again by his phone vibrating on his chest, a tight sigh leaving his lips as he blinked groggily. He hadn't meant to fall asleep with his phone still in his hand, it just happened that way. Tilting the screen up to see who it was he exhaled when he saw the number. Hawks must have just gotten done with his nightly patrols and watched the video.

Yes, Hawks was included in their little group text, if only to sort of include him in the League. Nothing of actual interest usually happened in it, besides scheduling meeting times. Mostly they just shared random thoughts in it at night, or during the day when they were bored and not together.

Hawks was messaging him outside of the group text though, this time texting privately with Dabi.

[4:31 am] birdie - i saw the video

[4:31 am] birdie - is it true?

[4:32 am] sender - wouldn't you like to know, bird boy

[4:32 am] birdie - i'm serious

Dabi just lightly scoffed, picturing the way that Hawks' features scrunched up slightly when he wasn't pleased. It was entertaining to see him struggle sometimes, when people didn't immediately cater to what he wanted. He'd let Hawks sit on it for a little while to realize that he wasn't entirely winning over Dabi yet.

[4:39 am] birdie - please call me

Two minutes later, the next message came, even though Dabi didn't respond in any fashion yet, just watching the messages pop up on his phone.

[4:41 am] birdie - i need to talk to you

Sighing, Dabi read the message, but didn't respond to the text. He didn't call Hawks either. He didn't owe the bird hero anything, he didn't have to call him if he didn't want to. What was there to talk about anyway, he wasn't going to confess to a hero that he didn't actually know who he was, even if that hero claimed to really be on their side.

Turning off his phone, he placed it back onto the coffee table, closing his eyes yet again. For a little while he managed to rest, but unfortunately he couldn't seem to ignore Hawks' last words. What if the guy actually knew something? He did work with Endeavor, after all. Dabi's blood boiled at the thought of needing help from a hypocritical hero though. He might be in a difficult position but he wasn't so bad off that he needed to go to them for help.

Opening his eyes, he forced his sore body off the couch and up into a sitting position. Since apparently he wasn't going to be getting any sleep, there was no use in laying on the uncomfortable surface.

Thankfully the rain had stopped now, leaving everything wet but cooling the night air as Dabi stepped out of his apartment to have a smoke on the porch. No one would be awake at this time to see him out there, so he was safe to leave his identity uncovered.

After extinguishing the stub of the cigarette on the wet railing, Dabi headed back inside. Flipping over his phone again, he noticed another message from Hawks before shooting off a reply.

[5:27 am] birdie - i'm gonna take your silence as a yes if you don't answer me

[5:32 am] sender - go the fuck to sleep

[5:32 am] sender - we have a meeting tomorrow

[5:32 am] sender - i'll talk to you then
