Having successfully silenced the bird chirping in his phone Dabi managed to get a few hours of sleep, though it was anything but smooth. After waking up again in the afternoon, he pulled himself off the couch to identify again that he did not in fact have any pressing injuries from the night before, besides the typical ones.
Food of some sort was procured, before Dabi gathered up the soaked clothes from the night before and shoved them into a duffel bag. His jacket was thrown in there as well, after he emptied out the pockets, since the whole thing was still too damp to wear.
After throwing on a sweatshirt and his other not drenched pair of boots, he grabbed his phone, wallet, and keys before leaving the apartment. Even though it was still fairly early in the evening, Dabi wasn't really that afraid of getting caught in this neighborhood. It was considered one of the worst parts of the city and was also known for catering to villains.
Not that far from his apartment there was a sketchy gas station/truck stop that Dabi frequented in order to maintain his supply of cigarettes and other items. They didn't question his presence there, in fact they seemed to welcome him and let him use their facilities whenever he wanted. Today Dabi was just here to send his clothes through their dryer, but he hung out in the back and had another cigarette while waiting, scrolling through some of the other comments on the video that had caused so much conversation the previous night.
Unfortunately, there wasn't really anything else helpful there, as somewhat expected, but it was kind of funny to see how many people were flipping out. The view count had grown exponentially since he had looked at it last, and he wouldn't be surprised if some news company would get their hands on it soon.
What wouldn't he give to see the look on the Number One Hero's face after that.
Once his clothes were all dry he shoved them back into the duffel bag and left, leaving a few dollars in cash in exchange. He then went back to the apartment, to change into the outfit that Hawks was used to seeing him in as a villain.
They wouldn't meet until the sun had already begun to dip below the horizon, casting long shadows down the alleyways and shrouding them in darkness. It was in this darkness that Dabi was waiting for Hawks in, hands shoved into his pockets.
It was easiest to recognize Hawks by his wings, which were practically impossible for the other to hide even for covert meetings like this.
"Certainly took you long enough considering how eager you seemed to be to talk to me last night." Dabi spoke first, cocking his head to the side slightly. He always liked to see what sort of mood the bird was in before they got into the actual business talk.
"You know I have other things to take care of, Dabi." Hawks replied with a short sigh, queuing Dabi in to the fact that Hawks had probably not managed to get enough sleep from his night shift patrol. Like Dabi cared about that, he also had struggled to sleep because of Hawks. Karma was a bitch.
"Sure. All that does is tell me how not important you think this meeting is compared to all that." He replied, making it clear that he wasn't buying that excuse again as he was testing Hawks.
Hawks just made a face at that, frowning slightly. He definitely did not seem his usual chipper self currently.
"Can we just talk about the video, please? I don't have time for this."
"What's there to talk about? It's just a stupid conspiracy video that two highschool kids came up with. I thought it was funny, so I sent it to the group." Dabi said with a shrug, pushing off how much he really had been thinking about the contents of said video.
"Dabi-"
"It's not true. I don't see why you care about it so much anyway." Dabi continued despite Hawks' attempt to butt into his words, watching Hawks' expression change. The only reason that Dabi could come up with for Hawks to be interested in this was because he was a double agent and just wanted to get information on Dabi, which was mostly fueled by Dabi's distrust in heroes in general and didn't really have anything to do with Hawks' personal feelings.
"Look, I just- Touya and I had a connection, okay? I want to know what really happened to him." Hawks finally confessed reluctantly, causing Dabi to momentarily pause before finding his answer.
"Well I'm not Touya, so you can stop asking me." Dabi brought his hands up out of his pockets, crossing his arms as Hawks formulated his response.
"How do you know that though? How do you know? If you're not Touya, then tell me who you are!" Hawks pressed, taking a step towards Dabi. Before he even noticed Hawks was moving, there was the soft yet sharp sensation of one of Hawks' feather blades on his neck, causing Dabi's flames to flicker to life around his hands as he yanked his arms out of their crossed position.
"I don't know, okay?! I don't know!" Dabi suddenly snapped, his control over his emotions quickly lapsing before he wrangled it back into submission again.
A heavy silence settled between them immediately after the words left Dabi's mouth, Hawks just as frozen in place as Dabi was. The only sound in the dark alley was their breathing and the slow crackle as the fire around Dabi's knuckles died down, until Hawks spoke again.
"You.. don't know?"
His words were very hesitant, and definitely surprised as he lowered his feather sword away from Dabi. "Dabi, I-"
"Look- just forget I said anything. It's not your problem." Dabi quickly said, interrupting him. "I'll contact you later with the League's next move. Until then, don't talk to me." He did not need Hawks constantly on his ass now about this, because it basically was a big fat 'this is my weakness' sign pointing right at his amnesia the more that he was forced to talk about what he didn't know.
Without giving Hawks a chance to put in another word edgewise, Dabi spun on his heel, resisting the urge to break out in a sprint to get out of there as fast as possible.
Fucking U.A. students and their obsessive personalities that don't think about anything other than themselves and their crack theories, now look at what Dabi had to deal with.
