Hello! Here is chapter two! I'm not sure if this will be a daily updated thing but I have some of it stocked up so perhaps? Anyways, I hope you guys like it!
And thank you so much Selkiesong22 for the review! I'm so glad you like Leo!
Chapter Two
Night One...
The door opened slowly, but that was probably because Leo was standing away from it and slowly nudged it open with his foot. His head was pounding and if what Jamie said was true, he didn't want to encounter any robots with suit stuffing intentions at the door.
When no one was there he slowly peered inside looking around and wincing. The place was desolate, with the creepy bots on stage still. It was a bit unnerving. The cleaning crew was gone and it was just him alone with these potentially deadly beings. Taking a deep breath he swore to himself for not having gotten a flashlight.
The new night guard loosened his tie and pulled his hat down more. A chilling feeling of dread overcame him once he stepped inside. With shaking hands he turned and locked the door behind him. The keys clinked together as he put them in his pocket and headed deeper into the place that could possibly kill him.
Stop it Leo, that's going to help no one. The kid was probably just pulling your leg...
The thoughts provided reassurance but that didn't do much for him.
This place, only a few hours earlier was filled with children, laughing, crying and screaming, now it seemed...almost like a graveyard.
That only made Jamie's words from earlier echo within his mind. The night guard shook his head taking a deep breath before stepping further inside.
Leo nearly jumped out of his skin when he found the animatronics looking right at him. They had been facing away from him right? Was he imagining things?
Shaking his head the guard took a deep breath, and checked the back door to make sure it was locked as well. He wasn't sure if he was assured about it being securely shut or not...
It meant he was completely alone with those things.
He took another breath and rubbed his forehead, really he should just leave. There wasn't even any alcohol in his system to motivate his choices. No, he was just being plain stupid.
Once more shaking his head the young man headed to the office. Thanks to his day shift, he knew the layout of the building and was accustomed to the office, but once again like the dining hall it was much more ominous in the dark silence.
On his way into his residence for the night, he winced and flinched at every creak and groan the floorboards gave. The sounds had never seemed that loud during the day, but now, with the rest of the building cast with a spell of utter silence. Every noise he made felt like he was breaking some rule, some law. Some imposing force was shaking his head at all the noise Leo was making.
When he got into the office he slipped the backpack off his back. He had been sure to bring it, after all he practically carried his life in it. The bag made the chair dip slightly and he wondered just how weak it was. It wasn't like his bag was heavy. Unzipping it he took out his jacket and tied it around his waist, it was was far too warm to wear it, but the familiar fabric put him at ease a tad more.
The fabric of his uniform was old and worn, but luckily that made it softer upon him. Judging on how some of it was still fairly stiff, Leo took a moment to feel sorry for the first people to wear the uniform. It must've been awfully uncomfortable. He rolled up the sleeves of his uniform and pulled out his water bottle. A wince was cut off as his eyes caught something reflect the light from the dim bulb above him. He didn't move for a long moment, staring down at the item before slowly reaching inside and picking it up. It was a knife, a gift...a reminder of a past he'd rather prefer to forget. Yet as he found himself in this ominous restaurant, his grip tightened around the small knife.
A falter put a stop to his resolute thoughts, if what Jamie said was true. What good would a measly knife do?
Pursing his lips he placed it back in the bag. There were a few other knick knacks in there, his morning uniform, and a change of clothes along with a different pair of shoes. Honestly he doubted he would be able to stay in the uncomfortable ones he was in now for long. Ah yes, and he also had a book, he had found it on the ground the other day, and he doubted that this night would be entertaining...despite what his fears tried to convince him.
He put his bag under the desk and sat down with a breath, only to grip the arms as it shook a bit more than he expected.
Dang this place was cheap.
Shaking his head he pulled up his tablet and started scrolling through the cameras as usual. Only to jump and curse when the phone started ringing. He looked at it and then at the time.
"Who is the genius calling at midnight?" He grumbled and rubbed his head with a breath.
"Hello? Hello, hello!" Leo jumped at the voice coming loudly from the phone. He hissed and held his head with a groan. His headache was so bad, he sure hoped there wouldn't be any more loud noises or his brain might just bust out of his skull on it's own.
"Uh, I wanted to record a message for you, to help you get settled in on your first night. Um, I actually worked in that office before you. I'm...finishing up my last week now as a matter of fact so...I know it can be a little overwhelming, but I'm here to tell you: there's nothing to worry about, uhh, you'll do fine! So...let's just focus on getting you through your first week. Ok?" At that Leo paused, was this the guy before him? Mike wasn't it? Or was it someone else? He had never met Mike in person so he couldn't be certain,
"I'd do better if you shut the ***l up." he mumbled, rubbing his forehead again with a deep breath.
"Uh...let's see. First there's an introductory greeting from the company I'm supposed to read. Eeh it's kind of a legal thing, you know. 'Welcome to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza: a magical place for kids and grown-ups alike, where fantasy and fun come to life. Fazbear entertainment is not responsible for damage to property or person. Upon the discovery of the damage or death has occurred, a missing person's report will be filed within ninety days or as soon as property and premise have been thoroughly cleaned and bleached and the carpets have been replaced." That caused Leo to pause and look up at the phone.
"Thanks for making me feel so safe." He sighed and leaned back in his seat scrolling through the cams. As usual the kitchen camera was out, the other rooms were fine, and as he expected, the animatronics were on stage once more. Well, so much for the promised exciting night.
Shaking his head he looked up at all the posters, he was familiar with them all from all the times he wanted to hide out in here from screaming children. They just looked...all the more ominous at night. He shifted in his seat before turning back to the cams taking a deep breath to steady his ridiculous nerves.
"Blah, blah, blah." The man's voice caught his attention again. "Now that might sound bad, I know, but there's really nothing to worry about! Uhh, the animatronic characters here do get a bit quirky at night, but do I blame them? No! If I were forced to sing...those same stupid songs for twenty years and I never got a bath? I'd probably be a bit irritable at night too. So remember: these characters hold a special place in the hearts of children and you need to show them a little respect. Right? Ok. So just be aware: the characters do tend to wander a bit. Uhh, they're left with some kind of 'free-roaming mode' at night." At that he stiffened and looked at the phone.
"Why...would you do that?" He took a deep breath looking through the cameras again.
"Uhhh...something about their servos locking up if they get turned off for too long? Uhh...they used to wander during the day too, but then there was the bite of '87. Yeah... it's amazing that the human body can live without the frontal lobe, ya know?" He looked up at the phone again.
"Well, thanks for answering my question, but a bit of TMI there buddy." He rubbed his face, this was insane. At the passing of each day Leo found himself more and more regretting his criminal actions. If he hadn't done those things he could've had a nice normal job at a McDonalds or something. Not a sketchy children's pizzeria with unnerving animatronics in it.
He really wished he had grabbed a pack of cigarettes before he got here…
"Now concerning your safety: the only real risk to you as the night watchmen here, if any, is the fact that these characters...uhh, if they happen to see you after hours probably won't recognize you as a person. They'll p-most likely see you as a metal endoskeleton without it's costume on. Now since that's against the rules here at Freddy Fazzbear's Pizza, they'll probably try to...forcefully stuff you inside a Freddy Fazzbear suit. Um, Now that wouldn't be so bad if the suits themselves weren't filled with crossbeams, wires and animatronic devices especially around the facial area. So, you could imagine having your head forcefully pressed inside one of those could cause a bit of discomfort...and death. Uh, the only parts of you that would likely see the light of day again would be your eyeballs and teeth when they pop out the front of the mask, heh. Y-yeah they don't tell you these things when you sign up. But hey, first day should be a breeze. I'll chat with you tomorrow. Uh, check those cameras, remember to close the doors only if absolutely necessary. Gotta conserve power. Alright, goodnight."
"Goodnight to you too." He mumbled before turning to the buttons to his left, there was an identical pair to his right. He had used these a few times to keep kids out. Who knew he could likely be using them to save his life?
He looked back at the tablet glancing at the percentage that represented his power. He winced a bit, already in the eighties, he should probably lay off the tablet a bit. He set it down and let out a breath rubbing his face. His water bottle needed to filled up...but if all that was true...should he risk it? And for water? Pursing his lips he took a breath. He would be fine, he was quick and these things were ginormous machines, there was no way they could keep up with him. Nodding to himself he grabbed his backpack and slung it over his shoulder. He grabbed his water bottle and hesitated looking at the tablet. Pursing his lips again he thought, before he decidedly picked it up and put it in his backpack. Rather be safe than sorry right?
Now if ever asked Leo would say that he walked out of there head held high and without a care in the world. The reality?
He leaned out first looking around at either side before checking his tablet, the main three were still on their stage and the fox hadn't moved from his spot, or at least the curtains hadn't moved. He nodded and put it back in his bag before heading to the kitchen. Maybe they had some ice?
His thoughts went back to the fox, wasn't it Foxy? He had only seen him once, when he had fled from some arguing parents who were trying to rope him into deciding who spilled whose soda. The room had been so abandoned, though he wasn't surprised when he saw the fox. The thing was behind the curtains and behind an out of order sign. And after seeing his condition Leo understood why. He was so banged up, he had no covers over his legs and had many holes in the once nice suit. His teeth were pretty intimidating, but honestly the aesthetic worked. He was supposed to be a pirate right?
He had always been fond of foxes, they were quick and clever, traits he always wished he had more of.
The cold metal of the kitchen door knob pulled him from his thoughts, he took a breath and shook his head, wincing at the pain. He didn't have time to think of foxes, who knew when those things would start moving. Once inside the kitchen he pulled out the tablet and looked over all the cameras again. He wasn't particularly happy about how staticy the cameras were. If he was supposed to watch them at least give him better cameras.
No wonder the night job was the most hated.
Once he was assured that no one had moved he put the tablet away and went over to the sink. Unscrewing the lid was a bit more difficult then usual, and it took him a moment to realize why.
His hands were shaking.
He stared at them a long moment blinking, was he really that frightened? Why? So long as he was careful everything would be fine. Shaking his head he finished getting the lid off and turned on the sink letting the tap water fill the bottle. Once it was filled to a satisfactory height he went to the fridge in hopes to find some ice. An old habit he didn't really care to break was to chew ice.
The ability to crush something between his teeth was oddly satisfying.
A grin lit up his face when he spotted the trays of ice, pulling them out he stated popping the cubes out before placing them in his bottle. As he did he looked around, it wasn't often he was in the kitchen unless it was to get the first aid kit, and that was usually a rushed event as he tried to hurry back and calm the child and parents.
Even if it was barely a cut that the kid received.
It was nice, if not dated, this place was built awhile ago, that much he could tell. It had an old feeling to it, like being in his grandparents house, old and musky, and that weird feeling of tension. Like he knew the place was going to fall apart at any second.
Now cold water spilling onto his hand startled him out of his mindless cube popping. He jumped and cursed before shaking his head and huffing. He took it back to the sink and poured a bit of the contents out. The extra cubes hit the metal sink with a thunk. He winced and looked around as if someone was going to jump out of nowhere. When nothing happened he took a breath and realized he hadn't looked at the tablet in ages. Tensing he pulled it out after setting down his cup.
Flicking through the cams he felt his blood run cold when the sight of an empty spot caught his attention. The table shook in his trembling hands and he hissed a swear at them. Why was he getting so riled? Taking a deep breath he started going through the cameras trying to find where the big oaf of a bunny went. He felt himself tense up at every empty room, and he almost sagged in relief when he found him in the dining room.
But that relief was short lived as he watched the rabbit. The way he...moved. It...was so fluid. This place was so cheap! How were they able to afford maintenance on something that moves that well?!
The purple bunny weaved around all the tables, and Leo couldn't help but squint at the screen as he tried to figure out what the apparently sophisticated machine was trying to do.
The bunny started looking under the tables. Sometimes even moving chairs to get a better look. He was looking for something...but what?
Leo didn't like the thought that flitted through his head that the rabbit was looking for him.
That was impossible, sure they moved great, but the guy said only if they saw him.
He tried to dismiss the little voice that told him they already did, when he walked in earlier.
Taking a deep breath he forced himself to put the tablet back in his backpack. Okay, all he needed to do now was go to the room again. He had his water, it was nearing one and he would be fine.
Leo tried to ignore the anxiety inside him that had came after he saw the power was down in it's lower eighties. Because that was still a really good number.
Same as he did when he entered the restaurant he gently pushed the door opened with his foot and let it swing out first. Wincing hard when he heard the hinges whine, and then tensing up tight when he stopped hearing Bonnie's footsteps.
His name was Bonnie right? Leo was pretty sure he heard someone call the bot that once.
There was agonizing silence for a few long moments, Leo didn't dare put his foot down, he didn't dare to breathe. Internally he swore like a sailor for being stupid enough to leave the room he was specifically told was safe.
However, the moment passed, and the rhythmic and inhuman footsteps began again. Taking a deep breath...a deep and silent breath he crept slowly back toward the room, it was slow, but he measured out every step, pulling up all his childhood knowledge about sneaking around.
He was so relieved to see the opened door, and bolted for it not caring how his shoes hit the ground hard. Stupid fancy shoes, he was so wearing his sneakers.
His hand just barely grabbed the edge of the door in time to stop himself from getting into the room, and it took a second for his mind to catch up with what his body had done. When he did, that familiar icy feeling arose within his blood again.
Bonnie, the freakin' seven foot tall animatronic was inside of his once office looking in the darker corners of the office looking for something…
Looking for him.
He let out a strangled noise and instantly both hands went to cover his mouth. The purple rabbit snapped his attention up to Leo far too fast to be possible for his lumbering body. Leo let out a sound that was akin to a dying bird and stood there frozen. It was only when the bot started moving that Leo reacted. He reached inside and slammed his hand against the top button before yanking his arm out as the door came slamming down. He heard a deafening thud against the metal but he was already bolting and thanking annoying children profusely for his knowledge upon the door button. He scrambled for the kitchen, it was big and had lots of places to hide.
The door swung open at his jerk and he scrambled inside looking around desperately for a cabinet that would fit him.
Which wasn't difficult, he was ridiculously small.
He hated how the pots and pans clanged together as he got inside. In a desperate attempt he started shushing them, as if that would actually help his situation.
Sweat dripped down his back in an unfortunate way, and he sure hoped that the heat of the oven killed fear sweat otherwise tomorrow's pizza was going to taste very wrong.
Leo squeezed his eyes shut, clinging his water bottle to his chest like it was a lifeline, it made a noise at his strong grip but he didn't let up. Taking deep and controlled breaths he clenched his teeth together. All previous logic telling him that it was ridiculous to fear those things was thrown out the window. The second Bonnie's paw had lifted he felt like a small child at the mercy of a monster before him.
In hissed whispers he swore rapidly, and in some weird way it relieved the pressure in his chest. Finally allowing him to take steadier breaths.
The confines of the cabinet were not ideal, there was the edge of a pan digging into his leg, and the handle of another jammed against his spine. Despite this he vowed the world would have to end before he left this cabinet.
Logically he knew that if they wanted to they could probably rip the cabinet doors off its hinges, but they had invaded his safe space, and now he was left sitting in a cabinet meant for pots and pans.
With hands shaking harder than they should he pulled out his tablet and started slowly going through the rooms. It was nearing two, his night wasn't even close to being over.
Leo nearly jumped out of his skin when he saw Chica looking straight into the camera, her glassy and robotic eyes seemed to stare right into his soul. He quickly moved away from that camera only to curse heavily, but quietly when he found Bonnie doing the same thing. His eyes were almost...angry.
Angry that he had gotten away.
With that chilling thought he went back to going through the cameras. It was in the upper seventies now, which was okay. He was still okay. Freddy, his name was easy enough to remember, it was literally the name of the restaurant.
Freddy was still in the same position on the stage, holding his mic, that was a relief. Foxy seemed to still be in the same place, but he couldn't be certain on that.
Still, with the almost certainty of only two of the four after him. Well he felt a bit more comforted.
That was short lived.
The whine of the kitchen door made him freeze and catch his breath. Heavy footsteps of the animatronic thumped on the tiled floor. He pulled the tablet close to his chest to silence the glow and stared at the door of the cabinet wide eyed.
At the first bang he flinched so hard he was sure the ground shook, at the second he flinched again but not as hard. He closed his eyes not wanting to see if the animatronic yanked open the door.
The banging and clanging continued. If he had been somewhere else, he would've guessed that the neighbors were planning on being drummers and using their pots and pans as instruments.
But here he was, hiding in a cabinet as an animatronic decided to be a percussionist with the cooking items.
He didn't know how long he sat there in silence, barely daring to breathe, but it certainly felt like a long time.
When the sound of the retreating footsteps faded, he slumped against the wall of the cabinet in relief. He wanted to shift, but he knew that would only make things worse. For one it would make sounds, and twoo his body had grown use to the position he was in.
...he was going to be very sore tomorrow.
The rest of the night he sat there, flickering through the cameras, tensing at every sound, and when the animatronic re-entered the kitchen he was stuck in the same cycle as before. Tensely waiting and praying for them to leave.
He nearly jumped out of his skin when his watch started beeping indicating the end of his shift. He scrambled to turn it off and waited with baited breath.
But there was silence.
Leo waited close to a hour before he emerged from his cabinet. He emerged like a old man, holding his back and hunched over. The guard was small, but even he had problems fitting into cabinets for extended periods of time.
Clutching his water bottle close he slowly crept out of the kitchen, eyes wide and probably looking like a crazy person. His body still trembled heavily and if asked he couldn't really explain why.
Nothing...had happened, they didn't get to him…
Why was he so scared?
His attention drifted to the stage, where the animatronics were once again posed, like nothing had ever happened. The...bots...dolls stood perfectly still, ready to perform for children like they didn't just try and murder him.
Suddenly feeling emboldened he stood up straighter, adjusted his backpack and walking backwards to the office he flipped them off with both hands. He went to the office and huffed putting down the tablet. He had two hours before his day shift started. He needed energy drinks if he was going to make it as something even remotely human. He made sure everything was back in place and he had his things in his bag. Before leaving the room. He rubbed his eyes with a yawn and took one glance at the dining room before shuddering and shaking his head before going out the back door.
He did not want to have to face them until he had caffeine in his system and a whole pack of cigarettes.
I hope you guys liked the chapter!
I'd love to hear what you think!
