Chapter Nine
Shift In Mechanical Hearts...

Foxy reached out and caught the night guard as he fell, with his hand of course. Leo looked dazed and confused, his eyes glazed over and he mumbled something, but it was barely comprehensible.

"Hey lad, ya alright there?" The fox asked as he looked over their guard. He proceeded to lower him to the ground gently. The human didn't respond as the bot crouched down next to him, if Leo had been aware, he probably would've panicked at how close the predators teeth were to his face. But luckily he was completely dazed.

Foxy looked up at the sound of Bonnie's footsteps. The oversized hare came over and stopped at the sight of Leo on the ground. The bunny's ears lifted up. "What happened?"

"As if I know, lad just collapsed on me, I wasn't even tryin' to be scary this time... " The fox trailed before mimicking a breath.

"I think it was my fault Foxy." The bunny mumbled, "Jeremy took over again." The predator of the two looked up at that, he slowly shook his head looking back down at the guard.

"They are so active lately..." The bunny mocked a breath in response, merely nodding in agreement. The fox mimicked another breath before getting up on his feet. "Sometimes we forget that humans are fragile." The red bot murmured and Bonnie mocked a breath.

"This can't continue Foxy, we can't keep doing this. You saw what happened yesterday."

"I'm not the one who ya have to convince Bon, and ya know that." With a tilt of his head, the fox mimicked a raise of an eyebrow.

"I know, I know. But...I'm not just crossing circuits right? I mean, he is different isn't he? From the others? Or am I just getting too old for this?"

"Nah, I wasn't too sure at first, but I think ya onta somethin'." The fox scratched at his chin with his hook. "The kid was gonna get taken if he hadn't stepped in."

"Right! And...and he...talks to us." The last part was a bit more mumbled then before, Foxy let out a chuckle at that.

"More like yells and swears at us Bon."

"Still!"

The red bot nodded and at the sound of footsteps made then turn and look up, the leader of the group came over and stared down at the human who was barely conscious and mumbling deliriously. The bear then looked up at them raising an eyebrow, the unspoken question in his eyes.

"Freddy...I don't want to do this anymore." The rabbit voiced quietly. At that Freddy paused and glanced back down at the human before up at the rabbit once more.

"Lets get him someplace other than the floor and we can discuss it." Freddy suggested, the fox and rabbit nodded before Bonnie scooped up the man only to freeze and look down at him as he shifted, curling closer to the rabbit's chest.

Bonnie then couldn't help but notice just how small the human was in comparison to the other people that came here.

How small he was in comparison to the bot.

The hare's ears drooped at bit as he carried him over to the table, the man felt so fragile...so breakable.

The lagomorph took him over to the table. Foxy proceeded to sweep all the party hats off the table and onto the floor causing his rabbit coworker to stare at him with half lidded and irritated eyes. The fox smirked wolfishly and spread his arms for the purple bot to place their guard down.

Once he did, in perfect timing, Chica entered the room from the kitchen.

The chicken bot looked at her male comrades and tilted her head, "what's wrong?"

"Foxy gave our night guard a heart attack." The rabbit said calmly as he crossed his arms. Ears still drooped and eyes half lidded.

The fox whipped on him.

"Agh! I did not!" He turned to Chica and pointed at the rabbit with his hook, "this be a lyin' mate lass. I was tryin' to communicate with the man how Fritz and I beat him."

"By jumping out in front of him?"

"The element of surprise is important to make an impact ya scurvy dog!"

"Enough." The voice of the bear caused the rabbit and fox to turn to him and away from facing each other. "Instead of arguing about what happened, we need to talk about what to do now." At that they sent each other a look before turning fully to face the bear. Chica came over holding her hands close to her chest and fidgeting once she stood in one place.

"Freddy...I..." she started, but her courage gave out and she looked down at her feet, nudging the ground with one of her metal and blunted talons.

"Bonnie has already requested a desire to stop trying to kill him." The bear responded to her, a gentler tone to his voice.

The avian looked up at that, "really?!" The bear nodded and the chicken then went over and hugged the bigger rabbit. Bonnie let out a nervous laugh hands up in the air, before he slowly hugged the yellow bot in return. "I knew you would come around Bonnie!" She cheered, and the rabbit paused, before looking over to the human.

"I...wasn't going to, but when...he stopped that guy..." he trailed off, and Foxy nodded.

"Aye, I am not the biggest fan of the guards, but that's the first time I've seen one actively work to protect a child." The pirate agreed, Chica let go of the hare and smiled brightly at the fox, before turning to Freddy. She clasped her hands behind her.

"Freddy?"

The bear gazed down at the human unconscious on the table. He looked troubled, or as much as a mechanical bear could look troubled. "I think we should give him a trial run. See what happens when we aren't hunting him down."

"But Freddy! We already know he is good with children and protects them! He even played with the kids!" The hen protested.

"He played with the children as well Chica." The pronoun drop made them all stiffen up, and Chica's will to fight dissolved as well. She paused shifting on her feet.

"I think a trial run is a good idea." Foxy broke the silence first, "keep an eye on 'im and all."

The others nodded in agreement but with less enthusiasm than before.

"...why did he pass out in the first place?" Chica asked finally asked gazing at the human, the other three turned their attention to the human before them.

"...um, I don't know." The fox admitted, he came over and got a closer look. "The lad looked to be in a lot of pain." He glanced at Bonnie, and the rabbit shifted his ears drooping, Freddy noticed and looked him over.

"Bonnie, what happened?"

"...Jeremy got mad." The rabbit mimicked a sigh and rubbed the back of his head, "I don't know what happened, but when I was back, Leo was on the ground pale and holding his arm..."

"So he passed out from pain?" The hen asked, looking at her comrades.

As if answering her question, the guard groaned his brows furrowing, they all looked at him.

"Is...he waking up?" The hare asked leaning closer to see.

"I don't know, they usually don't wake up." The fox mused, earning a glare from the hen.

"What do we do…? There is nothing to bandage…" the rabbit mumbled.

"Don't the parents usually call the one, one number?" The chicken asked looking up at them from her bent over position examining the human. She then frowned and looked down mimicking a huff. "Ugh, what is the first number again?"

"We can't call that number, it would freak them out to see us around him. This place has a reputation. They may not even approach him." Freddy advised, the other three looked between each other and then back at the human.

"Should we just-" The bunny started only to be cut off by another groan from Leo.

They stared at him and watched as he lifted his good arm to rub his face tiredly only to wince at the movement.

"Mates, we should probably move awa-"

"***K***K***K***K***K!" The shout mixed with a scream of terror made them all jump and turn their attention away from Foxy and to the human under their care. Leo was pale and staring up at them with wide eyes, wide and terrified eyes.

The human used his good arm to push himself up and his good leg to push himself backwards, "oh ***l no! I spent the entire night playing hide 'n seek with you psychos, no way in ***l am I getting stuffed into a dusty old suit!" He continued to pull himself away from them, Foxy quickly saw what was going to happen and reached out a hand to grab him, only for the man to yelp sharply and pull himself more away…

And then proceeded to fall onto the ground, in a very unfortunate way, he let out a hard groan, his feet up in the air. The bots looked at each other before going over.

"Lad?"

"****it...leave me alone..." The man groaned again, before pushing himself into a better position on the ground. Now completely laying down he gazed up at the ceiling and huffed a breath. There was a long moment of silence as he fiercely rubbed his face, as if he could get rid of the situation around him. Finally he let his arm drop to the ground and gazed up at the ceiling looking defeated.

"...okay...what now?" He asked tiredly, before letting his eyes flicker over all of them. "I know for a fact that I cannot get away in time. So just get on with it already." He proceeded to inhale deeply and shut his eyes tightly, expecting to be hauled off at any moment. The bots looked at each other again before down at him.

"We talked about it Leo, we aren't going to kill you!" The chicken told him brightly, the man paused and slowly cracked open one eye.

"What?"

"Ya heard the lass, there is to be no stuffin' ya in the suits." The fox confirmed and Leo looked at him and then to the rest of them. After he paused a moment he slowly pushed himself up.

"...I don't know if this is a hallucination, or the brief moments before death..." The man admitted with a deep and hard breath. With another harsh breath he rubbed his face, as if it could wipe away the illusion before him.

"No, you are very much alive." The hare assured, and Leo stiffened a bit before glancing up at him and then to Chica.

"Okay, but why? I don't understand, not even yesterday you were ready to murder me."

"Ya saved the kiddo lad." The fox answered instead and Leo snapped his attention to him, and shifted in place.

Poor thing looked like he was in a pit of lions.

Though...that wasn't too far from the truth.

"Y...yeah...I...I couldn't...just let him...take the kid..." the guard stammered.

"Exactly! Which is why we decided not to kill you!" Chica exclaimed and Leo whipped to face her, and nodded dazedly.

"O...oh...u...uh...thanks…?"

"Plus...the kids liked playing with you." Bonnie continued quietly, Leo looked at him and nodded again.

"G...good...good to k...know..."

The sudden sound of the door chime made them all look to the double doors. There stood the cleaners, the lead one, Roman was trying to get the door opened. Only to curse profusely and drop the keys, Jack picked them up and started unlocking the door as Janet, the quietest of the trio led Roman away speaking to him.

The bots looked at each other, before quickly retreating to their spots, even before Leo noticed.

The bots watched as he sat up opening his mouth, Bonnie couldn't help but wonder what he was going to say, because no words exited his mouth. That was due to him spotting them on stage.

As they stared back, they couldn't help but wonder…

Was he trying to warn them?

"Leo!" Jack's voice made the guard look up at the other humans. The animatronics watched his shoulders sag in relief.

Jack, the cleaner must've noticed how Leo looked, because the young man came over and slowed till he came to a stop.

"Um...are you okay? Why are you..." the blond trailed off before he cast his eyes up to the bots on stage. The demeanor of the cleaner changed, the animatronics watched as the color drained from his face. Bonnie resisted letting his ears droop, and Chica did her best to stay still.

They shouldn't care, people had always looked at them like that. Yet for some reason...they did.

"Jack...Jack, I'm fine." The guard assured, he proceeded to use the table to push himself to his foot. He began to look around for something, the man let out a breath when he didn't find what he was looking for. It took a second or so for Bonnie to realize that he was looking for his crutch. When the man turned their way, to either send a glare or ask for help, Bonnie used his ear to point toward the doorway where Leo's crutch had been left.

Just as the hare did, and Leo looked over, Roman, probably the rudest cleaner of the three, yelled out a swear and stumbled over said crutch.

"****it! What the ***l is this doing here?!" The man yelled causing the two humans closest to the bots to wince. Jack went over and picked up the walking aid, mumbling an apology to the eldest cleaner and returning the crutch to the guard.

The bots watched as the janitor helped Leo to the kitchen, and proceeded to power down before their shifts began.

Thank you for reading! And thank you again for everyone who has followed and favorited this story! I know it's repetitive but I want to let you know that it does mean a lot to me!

What did you guys think about the shift of the robots opinions? How do you think interactions between Leo and the bots will go from now on?

Things are only just starting, I've been slowly working on a plan for this story, and I plan to cover as many of the games as I can.

I'd love to hear what you guys think! :)
