Day 1 Part 2

Storm clouds gather over Gensokyo as the sun sets, the normally bustling streets of the human village disperse. stores close early, and pets are brought inside, the incoming storm seems like it's going to be the most intense it's been all year despite the sky being clear and sunny hours ago. Far from the human village, just outside the Scarlet Devil Mansion, was the house of a small family, wanting to live out their days in peace, but it seems like nature had other ideas.

"Sakuya, are you nervous?"

"Hm?"

"You've barely eaten your food."

"I-it's fine, your food is delicious, it's just.."

"I'm confident in my ability to cook, but you look like you've seen a ghost. It's the storm, isn't it?" Sakuya's went pale at the accusation, she couldn't hide anything from her husband, "You can go to be early if you want, I'll take care of Shiho."

"I said I'm fine!" Sakuya refuted, "I'm her mother, I need to take care of her! If I let a storm get in the way, what kind of mother would I be!"

"What kind of husband would I be if I allowed her to suffer through one of her biggest fears," Sakuya had no rebuttal, but she continued to pout at her husband, who couldn't help but crack a smile, "Don't be like that, the last thing I want is for you to be stressed out during your vacation, Shiho will be fine with me."

"...Fine" Sakuya finally relented, after eating some of her dinner, she took a quick bath before getting into her sleepwear and getting in bed.

"I'm not a child, dear, I can tuck myself in." Sakuya said as her husband placed the blanket on her.

"Don't act like you don't enjoy this," he replied, giving her a good night kiss, "try to get some sleep okay, you're no good to Shiho if you're a wreck." after her husband leaves the room, she's left alone with nothing but her thoughts and the sound of the rain. The rain never bothered Sakuya, she even enjoyed it to an extent, it was the heavy wind, the crashing boom of the thunder, and the flash of lightning that unnerved her. For as long as she could remember, she had been terrified by storms, she didn't know why, she just was, very few people knew of her fear, even the mistress didn't know. When she was a child it was so bad that she would curl up into a ball and not move at all out of fear, if she had to describe how it felt, it was like something was coming to get her, like if she didn't move, it woulldn't find her.

As Sakuya stare the cieling and think about her past, she found her eyes getting heavier, before eventually falling asleep.

...They're comi...

...ever..ody ru...

...hey... kil..ng eve..yon...

...I'm sorry...

CRASH

"AH"

The loud crash of the thunder startled Sakuya awake, the storm continued to thunder and flash as Sakuya began to shake uncontrollably. closing her eyes, she tries to get a hold of her self.

'it's okay Sakuya, no one's coming to get you, no one's coming for your family, you're fine, you... you're..." she beginning to lose her grip and and started to succumb to her fear, that's when she heard something through the heavy rain and thunder, the unmistakeable sound of a crying baby

"Shiho" she looked to her right to see her husband, still asleep 'maybe I should wake him,' she thought 'I can't take care of Shiho like this'. She mover her hand over to shake him awake until she remembered something 'I'm her mother, I need to take care of her! If I let a storm get in the way of that, what kind of mother would I be!', Sakuya mover her hand away from her husband and began to strengthen her resolve, slowly, she crawled out of bed and slowly walked towards the door. Shiho's room wasn't very far from her's, it was only a few feet away, at the end of the hall, but as she peeked through the door, it looked like it was miles away. Sakuya stared at the door for a few moments, listening to sound of her child crying, she closed her eyes, taking several deep breaths, before finally making her move, she made a mad dash towards to door, it lasted only moments, but it felt like minutes to Sakuya, and she could feel it, whatever was chasing her all those years had been catching up to her, and it felt like it was about to catch her before she reached the door, quickly opening it and running inside and slamming it shut.

Sakuya was breathing heavily while leaning against the door, she felt like she was about to have a heart attack, but she couldn't die here, she had a child to take care of! She walked towards the crib where the crying child lay, bending over the crib to pick her up and comfort her.

"Oh Shiho... did the thunder startle you"

"Mmm... ma..."

"It's okay Shiho, mama's here, nothing will hurt you now." Sakuya held her baby closely against her chest, it had been the most intense night of her life, but now it felt like the only things in the world were her and her child.

Extra: Fear

"Maybe she pushed herself too hard?"

"I-I don't know, I was just watching her sweep the courtyard when she just started shaking and curled up into a ball!"

"That does sound concerning, maybe some kind of fairy prank?"

"Maybe, isn't there some kind of magic spell you can use to find out what's wrong with her?"

"I'm a magician, not a doctor, if you're so concerned, you should be taking her to an actual doctor"

"You're right, but the storm's pretty intense, I wouldn't want her to get a cold, too"

"This is too concerning too just hold off, wrap her up in some blankets and-"

"W-wait!"

"S-sakuya! Are you alright? What's happening to you?"

"P-please, d-don't take me outside."

"Why? What's wrong"

"The c-crashing, the flashing... I.. I can't..."

crash

"Ah!"

"H-hey, it's alright, the storm's not gonna hurt you."

"..."

"Seems like she's too scared to even speak"

"Poor girl..."
