The Week of Trials

Izuku had been extremely nervous for absolutely no reason, the older man who was the manager assured him that he was the exact type of person he was looking for. Someone young, had a lot of energy and could put in long hours or be called in whenever; and Izuku perfectly fit the bill.

The older man issued the boy his new uniform and told him if he wanted to he could start today at six p.m. and pull the night shift, to which Izuku happily accepted.

Now the real question was how did he spend the rest of the time before his shift started? Well, he didn't necessarily want to go home, and he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep so he might as well go get some exercise. That called for him going home to change so he could return to where his journey started.

Izuku immediately beelined his two blocks home and when he arrived in front of the building he waited until he was certain he was the only one on the street. He then proceeded to dip into the back of the alley and made his way through the back door and up to his room. He quickly stripped and grabbed his lone pair of exercise shorts and slipped them on, as well as putting on a black tank top under his mossy green sweater.

It took the boy an hour and a half until he finally reached his destination, Dagobah beach. He looked at the now clear beach and it's beautiful skyline as he reminisced on his progress. He had cleared this beach all by himself, along with some guidance from an older man of course. Izuku looked off into the distance and wondered where that man was today.

He then looked down at his hand and said with sadness seeping out the more he talked "Did you worry when I disappeared? Did you give up on hoping that I'd come back one day? Did I disappoint you? Well, I hope I didn't, you were the only one I could trust after all. I hope you're doing all right wherever you are Yagi-san."

Izuku looked back up and remembered that he had come here for some light training before work and so he took off his sweater before he set off on a run up and down the beach.

He looked at himself in the mirror and he felt a small amount of confidence wash over him that he had never felt before. The uniform fit him well, like really well. It showed off his broad shoulders and traps, wrapped around his biceps and showed his lean build. However, that did not stop the boy from being slightly uncomfortable 'Does it perhaps show too much?' Izuku thought to himself before he threw on a light jacket and made his way to the store.

"You cannot wear the jacket during your shift young man," the older man said bluntly.

"Eh? But Hisao-san-" The boy tried to spit out.

"There will be no buts, there is a reason for this after all. Look at yourself young man, if I have you manning the register the ladies will be sure to come back and see more of you." The man proclaimed his plan proudly with a large grin.

"I-I don't know about that Hisao-san, besides it's night time, what girls are out at night?" Izuku rebutted thinking he made a good point.

"Well you just started today so I wasn't able to work you for longer. However, since your schedule is so empty-" The old man trailed off in thought before continuing "How do you feel about working every day from 2 pm until we close at 2 am?"

"I guess I c-could do that." the boy stated 'Not like I would have anything else to do.'

"Great now make sure to keep the jacket off and if a lady flirts with you, you flirt back no exceptions." The old man said before taking off out the door as fast as he could.

Little did the older man know he left an all but working Izuku behind the counter, "F-flirt?"

Izuku's days moved like that for the rest of the week as he tried to earn as much as he could before the U.A. entrance exams. The boy was working 12 hours daily, which wouldn't be so bad if he didn't get paid to flirt with his customers.

The first night was definitely bad but it wasn't exactly the worst. He had two run-ins that night, a small fat man came in and absolutely loaded up on snacks, and a drunken older woman came to buy condoms. He was able to handle the shorter man without a single hiccup, except for a slower scanning speed than the man would've liked and he made sure to tell the nervous boy. The second run-in almost left the boy in a coma from pure shock as well as leading to him being a stuttering mess. The second he began to scan her items is when he noticed what she had tried to purchase and a large blush came onto his face. She noticed this and began to flirt with the boy.

"Oh you're cute aren't you" She leaned against the counter and put her cleavage on display for the boy and read his name tag "I~zu~ku~?"

"Y-yes?" The boy said scared for what she was about to say.

"Have you ever used these before Izu~kun?" The lady gestured towards the box with a devilish smirk growing on her lips.

"N-no I haven't" Then he remembered the older man telling him to flirt and he looked directly at her eyes and without breaking eye contact he said "You really p-pretty eyes."

The customer didn't expect to find such a boy at the store, he was an anomaly. He was strong with a cute face, if not a little plain, tall and had such a timid attitude as well, she just knew that she could have fun with this one. Thus the perfect plan to leave the young man completely and utterly flustered. "Lean forward a bit Izu~kun." As the boy did that she leaned forward and slid her number across the counter as she said "Well if you want to give me a call I can show you~" she said in a whisper into the boy's ear. She turned around and decided to give the boy a little show; she swayed her hips as seductively as she possibly could while drunk on her way out.

Izuku stood there, completely and utterly still. The boy could not register what had happened, a girl had not only called him cute but had given him her number and implied that they could-. Needless to say, the boy was left standing there blushing up a storm as he tried to calm himself.

The rest of the week was nothing like the first night and Izuku was so grateful for that. He had held onto the note with the woman's number for some reason he couldn't quite put his finger on. He put it on the desk at home and moved on.

In the next couple of days, the boy had figured something out that would help him with the flirting part of his job. If he just thought of it as a part of his normal job routine then he wouldn't freeze up as often and he would be able to actually have some pleasant conversations with those who came to the store.

He adjusted surprisingly quick to how his manager would joke with him and sometimes he'd even joke back. His manager would treat him like he was family and loved to joke with the boy.

Three days into his job he was told to come in two hours early by Hisao-san, he wasn't sure why but he had grown to trust his co-worker and owner of the store. As he approached the store he saw the older man standing outside not wearing his work clothes.

"Hey Hisao-san, what are you doing?" the boy asked.

"Follow me, don't talk," the older man said in a tone that he had never heard before, scaring the boy.

Hisao never once turned to the boy and talked after those initial words he had spoken. Izuku was freaking out, 'Did I just lose my job? Did I not flirt back enough? Did he find a replacement? Where is he taking me? Why isn't he talking?!' Needless to say, the boy had been lost in thought for the entire walk and did not even notice when his manager had come to a complete stop. The only thing that stopped the boys muttering was running into the older man.

"Oh sorry Hisao-san, f-forgive me!" the boy said as he backed up from the older man.

"Relax kid, trust me you don't need to be so nervous, now come on let's go inside," he said his normal aura seemingly back now.

Hisao could see the shock on the boys face when they had stepped inside the shop. 'This boy must think I don't notice anything, so I'll let him think that for now' he thought as he let out a small chuckle. The boy looked up to his employer with a look of confusion on his face, 'why a barbershop?' he thought to himself. "Hisao-san?"

"You wanna know why don't ya kid?" the man said, already knowing the boy's answer.

Exactly like he thought the boy proceeded to nod.

"Well if I can make you look even better there will constantly be women in the store won't there be," he stated with a dubious smile gracing his face.

Thirty minutes and one nervous Izuku later and his hair cut was finished, and he had to admit it was different but it was a good different. His hair had grown to the point where it would cover his eyes and thus a cut was much need. Izuku's long locks had been trimmed on top and the sides were faded up so that his hair looked like a controlled mess. After checking out his new look in the mirror he looked over to see Hisao paying the barber. 'Maybe, just maybe...'

Izuku and his older companion were now exiting the shop and walking back towards the store when a thought popped into Izuku's head. "Hisao-san, I'm going to need to come in later, the U.A entrance exams are tomorrow and I plan on going." The boy proclaimed whilst rubbing the back of his head.

"That's fine kiddo, I can cover for you until you show up, but I'm still going to need ya to work your whole shift today, alright?"

"I plan on it sir," he responded.

"Good, now I'll see you tomorrow" the older man turned around and paused before continuing "Hey ki-" he stopped again and then continued "Izuku, I know you will do great, make sure to tell me when you get in."

"I will!" he called out to the man who was now headed towards his home.

Izuku was working another quiet late-night shift the night before the exam, well technically the day of but Izuku didn't need much sleep, even if he did he never got much of it anyways. Izuku had already pulled roughly about 72 hours or so of work and he was proud of himself, he would get a decent amount of cash that could go straight into getting food and a new phone. 'Now if only I could buy a mattress or a sleeping bag.' Izuku's attention was immediately drawn to the door as a woman barrels through as if she's running for her life. 'I swear if she broke the door I'm going to be in so much trouble..' the boy sighed quietly to himself.

"Ma'am, can I help you? Do you need me to call you a cab?" he asked assuming she was drunk but then he finally looked at the woman in her entirety for the first time. She was tall, not exactly his height but especially for a woman she was tall, she had jet black hair tied back in a large ponytail that looked a little messy and she had many cur- he stopped his thought in its tracks immediately as the woman finally answered him.

"I'm sorry for the loud commotion but I am trying to avoid these men who were harassing me and following me down the block," she said with a slight bow.

Izuku came out from behind the counter and looked past the girl and indeed he saw two men outside and across the street as if they were waiting on a cab. "That them?" he gestured towards the older men, a now cold tone gracing his vocal cords.

"Correct, they have been following me since the park. I tried to get back to my hotel room but I ended up running away and have gotten lost." the girl said with a tinge of disappointment in her voice.

"I'll be right back, you stay here," Izuku said with anger in his voice. 'These are the type of people I hate the most, those who scavenge and gang up on others who appear weaker than them, they are truly the scum of the earth.' the boy dialogue to himself as he walked across the street not taking even a second to look for oncoming cars.

Suddenly the older men looked up to him as he approached, he noted that they smelled of alcohol and couldn't quite stand straight. Izuku towered over the men, his presence intimidating them.

The young woman was not a woman at all, she was a U.A. hopeful just like Izuku, however, they had not had time for introductions before the boy stormed off. The teenage girl whose body and stature fooled many into thinking she was older was none other than Momo Yaoyorozu, heiress to her parents' company. She looked on in confusion not quite knowing what he was saying to them but realizing the look on their faces, one of pure terror. The store clerk had then thrown one into the other as he shouted loud enough for momo to hear for them to scram and to never return here or to ever harass another woman. Momo looked on with her arm hovering over her heart, she was truly touched as this man who knew nothing about her was protecting her 'he isn't just helping me because of how I look, is he?' her thoughts wavered for a second before realizing the man had already re-entered the store.

Before he could say anything to her she abruptly said "Thank you for the help. I truly appreciate it, you have no idea how often that happens."

"Do not worry about it, I hate to see others harassed, especially for things they can't control." the boy said as he returned to his post behind the counter.

The girl had a light sprinkle of pink across her cheeks as she looked at the man who saved her for the first time fully. Hw as tall, taller than her even. He had messy green/black hair which had been cut recently and let her see his glowing emerald green eyes and freckles. Her attention returned to reality as she realized she was staring at him and he had been looking at her whereas if he was expecting an answer, his piercing green eyes not wavering from full eye contact. There was something warm about his eyes, as well as something intimidating, beyond that however she noticed that his effort was a mask, he was forcing himself to act.

"I'm sorry but did I say something to offend you?" the boy now asked with a hint of sadness creeping out from behind his usual facade.

"Sorry no I was lost in thought, please forgive me. Can you repeat your question?"

"I said, What are you doing here? You seem like the smart type, obviously well taught and informed based on how you talk and carry yourself, you also stated you had rented a hotel which means you're not from here. It's not quite safe for someone as smart and cute as you being out this late in an unfamiliar area, so why? " the boy said while slightly tilting his head."

"Oh, I had taken the U.A. recommendation exam recently and I am staying until I receive the results and the term starts," she stated. 'He thinks I'm cute?' she thought to herself, she had always heard she looked mature, beautiful, pretty or hot but never cute.

"OH THAT'S AMAZING" the boy suddenly said with a burst of energy "You must have a very powerful quirk to get a recommendation, and assuming that you are indeed as smart as I think you are then you are almost like a dual-threat. What was it like? Was it fun? Did you see anyone else with exceptional quirks or were you separated?..." The boy droned on as he fanboyed over the thought of this girl attending U.A.

The girl sweatdropped 'well at least he looks a bit happier now, right?... Wait, he didn't put me down for having a recommendation?' Momo came from an extremely competitive school and so when she got a recommendation through her parent's many people claimed she did not deserve it and that she was a fraud, needless to say, this was a new experience for the girl.
"Um, hello?" she said as she waved her hand in front of the boy to reobtain his attention.

"Oh sorry," the boy said as he shrunk back down "quirks just really interest me. I'm trying to get into U.A. as well." with a small smile plastered on his face.

Time passed relatively quickly for the pair as they talked on and on, before they realized it was time for Izuku to close the shop. He learned all about her quirk, creation, and she was just as brilliant as the boy thought, as her quirk required her to remember the compositions for the items she created.

He offered to walk her back to her hotel and she agreed so that they could continue talking. Izuku gave her a rundown of the area on their walk back and eventually realized that she did not stay far from the boy at all. Once they reached her destination he was sad, he had met such an amazing person and this may be his last time seeing her based on how things go.

She asked for his number so that they could stay in touch and they could inform each other of their acceptances but the boy told her he didn't have a phone and apologized. As she went to enter the hotel the boy had turned around and started his walk back home, but fate had other plans.

She turned around and quickly ran over to the boy that had saved her and that had truly touched her with his words before saying just loud enough for him to hear and begin turning around "Izuku!"

He turned and he was met face to face with her as she extended around him for a hug, burying her head in the crook of his neck before softly whispering her thanks.

After she let go of him and finally walked into the hotel Izuku dropped his cool and started freaking out 'A g-girl hugged me?'

What seemed like forever passed by before the boy was drawn away from his thoughts by the cold, it was definitely time to go home.

"Kurogiri! You said this one was quirkless, how am I supposed to experiment on him if he has a damned quirk." The loud voice boomed.

"Sir I swear, even on the registry it lists him as quirkless." The misty man sheepishly said.

Izuku was wavering in and out of consciousness, he turned his head slightly and could see two men arguing but he wasn't sure what they were talking about entirely, all he knew is the man who he assumed to be in charge pointed at him and said something about a quirk. Izuku continued to look around and noticed he had an I.V. in his arm, but there was something wrong about it, there was a red liquid in the I.V.

All of a sudden he felt a massive pain in his mind, like his head was now too small for his brain, and he let out a blood-curdling scream that drew the attention of the two men arguing to the boy who was strapped down on the metal slab.

"Kurogiri, since you messed up I'll leave this to you, I trust you to make it….entertaining." the man said as he left.

The man-made of shadows soon approached Izuku and peculiarly looked at him, as if he pitied him. Once again he reached for the needle however and stuck the boy after hesitating ever so slightly.

"Sleep, let me end your suffering," he said as Izuku had already begun to slip into the realm of unconsciousness.

He woke up unlike any other night and started to cry, for no reason the boy had just begun to ball his eyes out. He tried to remember why but all he could recall was the small glimpse from his dre- no his nightmare.

Izuku's gaze fell down to the puncture marks on his arm that had recently started to heal and rubbed his hand over them. 'What really happened to me..?'

Izuku had not even slept for four hours since his last shift had ended before he was awoken by his night terror. However as most would be scared Izuku was more intrigued than anything, and this would lead to him frantically writing about his theories over ten pages on paper he had scavenged. That may not be the right word for it though, he had just taken flyers on telephone poles and stuffed them in his pocket before he scurried home.

Izuku had written out his theories for 2 hours, including trying to draw those two men he saw, instead, he could only recall general things about one man, the shadow man. He made a profile as well as organized his theories by likelihood.

Theories list: What happened to me (Summarized)

1. I was kidnapped but once they found out no one could pay a ransom for me they discarded me.

2. I was going to be sold into the black market but since I'm quirkless they once again discarded me

3. They tried to implant me with something (quirk related? I don't know)

4. They discovered I have a quirk? But then why would they get rid of me?

After a while, Izuku had gotten up to stretch only to notice the sun had started to come out, and before he knew it he was throwing on his old school uniform, no matter how tattered it was he needed it, and rushed out the door.

He was on his way to achieve his dreams.

AN:
I hope you all liked the surprise update and the slightly longer chapters. I realize it may not be the quality I want it to be at this point but I'm just too excited.

Remember to vote for who you want to be paired with Izuku, especially because I need to determine when I will work them into the story and I don't want to rush it later on.

If you do not vote before the fifth chapter is released it will be too late so make sure you vote!

As always, thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed, have a wonderful day :)
