The day had come, the day that he had waited on for so many years. He knew as he looked up to the building that he could not let his one chance slip away, he would seize this opportunity and prove everyone wrong. He set out on a mission all those years ago and he will not fail before he can even start.
The boy dressed in his ragged uniform took his first steps through the gate and into his future with his eyes sparkling and a clenched fist he set out to achieve his dream. However, the boy would soon have his first run-in with an individual he would deem a villain.
Izuku tripped over something close to the ground and fell face-first into the pavement. 'oh fantastic, it's your first day and you've already made a fool of yourself Izuku' the boy thought as he began to dust himself off and scanned for what he fell on. He spotted the source of his fall and his confusion grew even more, it was an extremely short boy. He had purple balls for hair and apparently didn't even notice Izuku's presence. He seemed to be looking at something intently however and as Izuku followed to where his gaze landed he grew angry.
He practically jumped off of the ground and snatched the boy by his collar. The boy was literally dragged away from his thoughts as he tried to protest "What in the hell do you think you're doing?" he said in a desperate voice as he swung his arms around "you're getting in my way!"
"You disgust me," Izuku stated soullessly as he glared at the boy.
Izuku had noticed the person he was after was already at the doors and so he called out for her "Hey slow down, you with the pink hair!"
"Huh?" the girl said turning around, and looking to see a scrappy taller boy carrying a...toddler?
Izuku held the boy out and with an enraged tone said "Tell her before I do and you have to deal with the both of us."
"Tell me what?" She said looking at the small fry in confusion.
"I-I uh nothing," he said waving his hands in front of his face.
"Tell. Her. Now." Izuku spat out.
The girl was watching the entire scene in front of her unfold in complete and utter confusion, for one why was this taller boy holding this runt? Why was he holding him with such a strong grip too, as if to not let the boy escape? Now that she was looking at the taller boy however she realized he was kinda cute if not a little plain, but why was he wearing those ragged clothes?
"Okay then I'll tell her," he said glaring at the teen. He looked back up at the pink girl and proceeded to say "This one here was checking you out from behind as you bent over, I'm guessing that he was looking at um... You know."
The girl looked at the boy who was now revealed to be a pervert but all she could think about was the one holding him up.
"What do you want to do with him?" the boy said, looking down into the girls' eyes.
"Let's see, how about you put him down for me real quick," the boy proceeded to do as she said and put him down. The girl then did something that shocked Izuku and she punted the miniature pervert away and looked back at him with the biggest smile. "Now that is dealt with we can get down to business…?"
"Izuku Midoriya," the boy finished for her.
"Okay then Midori, here one second" the girl then turned around and grabbed a pen before beginning to jot down her number on a piece of paper she ripped out of her notebook, "Take this and call me after so we can hang out, okay?" The girl then ran off towards the entrance and disappeared out of sight.
Izuku sat there stunned, as he looked down at the note he noticed something. The girl had not put her name down but instead put 'Cutie from U.A.' 'Damn I didn't even get the chance to tell her that I don't have a phone' the boy thought as he sighed to himself. The boy stuffed the note in his pocket and proceeded into the building 'thankfully I got here early, that little altercation could've caused me to be late otherwise. Either way, now it's time to start my mission.' he said as he looked up with a clenched fist.
Mitsuki Bakugo was worried, to say the least, for the past month or so her son had not been acting like himself. He was quiet, more reserved than before, which was a drastic difference from his normal self. She had no idea what brought this on, every time she tried to ask she would see a glimpse of his old self-return as he'd yell and call her a 'hag' and to 'mind her business'.
She heard a rumour that a boy had disappeared around that time but no one ever reported a child missing and so her search was pointless. She hoped that at least for today he would return to normal, today was the day of the U.A. entrance exam and it had always been his dream to get in, to become the number one hero of course.
She looked at him one last time before calling out to her son as he left their home " Hey brat, you better get in today."
"Get in?" he scoffed "Fuck I'll come in first place guaranteed," he said as he looked back and flashed his signature egotistical smile.
'I hope the brat can overcome whatever is eating him' she thought quietly to herself as she slid onto the couch.
Izuku had easily breezed through the written exam, although not studying for a few weeks caused him to go a bit slower than he normally would. He finished the exam in a total time of 39.5 minutes, then proceeded to lay his head down and catch a small nap as he was still tired from the previous night. When everyone else managed to finish and time was called Izuku was feeling somewhat more refreshed and prepped for the practical. After the written exam they proceeded to fill in a large auditorium and waited a bit for the speaker to appear.
'Okay, they are robots, that means I may have to get technical and go after the wires. That means I'm going to need to look for a weak point in the armour plating and attack that. It will surely be different for all different types of robot though.' Izuku was lost in thought whilst already trying to come up with a game plan for the practical.
Izuku was quickly drawn back to reality by the loud boom of Present Mic, the speaker of the assembly.
"OKAY! How are we doing today listeners?!" The man enthusiastically shouted only to be met with a sea of silence.
"Tough crowd huh, well no matter that, let's get into the nitty-gritty alright ladies and gentlemen?" his voice boomed throughout the auditorium.
Again no response.
The man sweatdropped and continued "Keepin it mellow, I respect that. Anyways let's move on to the main event, the reason you are all here. The practical exam!"
"Like the handouts said today you rockin boys and girls will be out there conducting ten-minute mock battles in super dope urban settings!" he said as a graphic appeared behind him on the screen.
"After we all finish up here you'll head to your assigned battle center… Continuing right on, there are three types of faux villains you will encounter in these super hip battle centers, each with a designated point value, the more points they are worth the harder the difficulty of course!" the man started to wave his hands in front of his face before forming an X "You can do pretty much anything but attacking other examinees is a huge nono, ya dig?"
Izuku saw a boy around his height with what looked like dark blue hair stand up in front of him and start speaking "Excuse me sir, but I have a question."
"Thanks for calling in listener, now hit me." the man yelled, looking happy that someone was finally participating.
"On the printout, you've listed four types of villains. Not three. With all respect, if this is an error on official UA materials it is shameful. We are exemplary students. We expect the best from Japan's most notable school. A mistake such as this won't do." Izuku saw the boy whip around and point to his seat in the back "Additionally, this boy with the unkempt hair and ragged clothes. He looks like nothing more than a beggar, why are you here, did you manage to sneak in. Once more this is unacceptable on behalf of UA.
"Alright examinee 7-1-1-1, thanks for calling in with your request. The fourth villain type is essentially an obstacle worth zero points that we'll be throwing in your way. There will be one in every battle center. Think of it as a hurdle you should try to avoid, it's not that it can't be beaten but there's kinda no point… I recommend that you, my listeners try to avoid it and pay attention to our chart toppers!"
The blue-haired boy with glasses bowed "Thank you very much, please continue."
"That's all I got for ya for today, I'll sign off with a little gift for you all. A sample of our school motto! As General Bonaparte once laid down, 'a true hero is one who overcomes life's misfortunes' Now that's a tasty soundbite. NOW, are you ready to go beyond? Let's hear a Plus Ultra!"
Izuku stood outside his designated battle center sporting one of his signature mossy green hoodies riddled with stains, beneath that a black tank top to match his black joggers. On his feet, those signature red high top sneakers.
'Alright, it's time for me to realize my dream now, to put everything on the line. Everything Yagi-san taught me, use all the faith that Hisao-san has put into me! I will overcome life's misfortunes just like Present Mic said, and I will become a hero' the boy thought as a grin appeared over his overall plain face, one of determination as he clenched his fist and looked towards the gate. He saw the boy with glasses who called him out earlier, the one that tried to embarrass him 'I'll embarrass him by earning more points than that uptight ne-- where'd that come from?'
Izuku was pulled from his thoughts by Present Mic. "Right let's start. There are no countdowns in real battles, you're wasting airtime here!"
Izuku looked down from the man to see everyone else was rushing off, he panicked and quickly took off after the rest of the pack.
Six minutes later and Izuku had no points still, he had helped several other examinees though. Including a Frenchman? He was the most peculiar one, as he froze up in front of a villain, so Izuku grabbed him and ran, the man thanked him but it left Izuku confused. Why did he talk like that?
Izuku was still running around looking for villains to fight, but everyone else was already taking them on. He didn't find a villain, but he ended up finding a short girl who was pinned down in an alleyway. He started sprinting as fast as he could towards the girl he saw and slid under the mechanical monster to get to her. He faced his back towards her as he was hit by the small blast the beast let out. He didn't cry out, instead, he scooped the crying girl up who was obviously very frightened and ran back towards the monster, and sliding under it once again.
"This year's batch is packed with potential." Midnight said wryly as she caressed her whip.
"Mmhmm Ah yes, there are some fine candidates indeed." All Might declared, trying to steer clear of his fellow faculty member imagination.
"There are some solid candidates here, although no one is really entertaining me," Nezu said before slumping back into his chair.
"Sir you really can't intend to…" the number one hero tried to interrupt but he was cut off by the small rodent.
"This will prove who has it in them to become a hero." Nezu coldly announced, giving every pro in the room chills before slamming his little mouse/bear/dog paw onto the big red button.
He was running with the girl when he heard Mic yell "One minute remaining" and a tremble starting to shake the ground, he had managed to get the girl to another group of possible students and then he looked back and saw a small girl with a short bob haircut trapped under some rubble… and a monstrous mountain of mechanical engineering behind her. Within seconds of hearing her cry for help, he started running faster than he ever had before. His muscles felt as if they were engulfed in flames, his skin felt dry, he could no longer feel his constant sweat dripping. He reached out towards the girl to pull her out. He picked up the rubble, not even thinking for a second of how heavy it was or if he could actually manage to lift it. Once she was out of it, he saw the monster get closer and closer. He could no longer run, this is how it would end, his mission failed, the end of the story for the quirkless boy who thought he could be something. In that moment of darkness, he slipped back to his old ways, falling further than he ever had before. Only this time something was different.
The boy felt a surge of rage fill his body, and then everything went black. The last thought to fill the boy's mind was a simple one, he had failed his mission.
The teacher's room was in awe, some were scared and one was so happy he could have cried right there on the spot. Only one was laughing, and that person was not a person at all, instead, he was the insane principal of UA.
"That was beautifully entertaining, don't you all agree?" Nezu said whilst clasping his paws together.
"Sir, I hate to disagree, but that power is villainous, even compared to that hothead of a blonde." a shuddering midnight stated.
"No power is heroic, nor villainous, you should know this Midnight." Nezu refuted.
"Sir I know, but that form he took, sir it wasn't normal, no quirk should be able to do that to a person."
"He saved that girl Midnight, or have you forgotten. How about all those others that he saved? Does it not scream the actions of a hero?" a deflated All Might interjected.
"If he had that power all along, why not use it on the faux villains though?" Midnight asked.
"Aizawa? Do you have something you'd like to say?" Nezu asked after looking at the quiet man.
"He has no control over this quirk, he used it like a kid would first use theirs and it would leave him drained. It's possible that the transformation requires an immense usage of his energy but still, somethings not quite right," he replied plainly.
"I concur, which is why I'll put him in your care." Nezu smiled with a menacing aura, as if he was challenging him to try to reject him.
"Yes sir," the tired man said with a defeated sigh as he rolled into his yellow sleeping bag.
Throughout this whole conversation, All Might was thinking of other things. 'Where have you been all this time young man, you disappeared before I could grant you my power. Now you have a quirk as well? You are just full of surprises' the man thought as he smiled warmly to himself. He had found his to-be successor once again.
Hey all! Sorry for the long absence, life has been kinda hectic for me recently and I hadn't had time to really write a bunch. Imma try and get back on schedule for you all but I can't promise much.
As always a review would be appreciated and please tell me if there's anything I can improve on.
Have a wonderful day :)
