"I knew Quark was involved, and I'm going to break his lobes off." Shouted Major Kira.

"Major I as much as I want too, I can't just barge in there and arrest that sneaking Ferengi."

"Why not? Did any of you hear what Dax just told us? She can trace the energy signature to Quark's. That means he is part of the plot to kill the First Minister."

"Major just because the energy signature shows up at Quarks does not mean that he is involve in this assassination plot."

"Commander, this is Quark that we are talking about, of course he is involved. I wonder how much gold pressed latinum he got for trying to kill a Bajoran."

"Major you are right this is Quark and I have been chasing him long before any of you were on this station. He might be a cheat, thief, and con artist, but he is not a murderer."

"Odo how do you explain the energy signature being in his bar?"

"Kira, I agreed with the Constable, Quark is no killer. But I do believe that he can lead us to the real killer. We can't just walk in there and let him know that we are on to him."

"Then what commander? Are we just going to wait around for the killer to strike next?"

"No, I have something else in mind. Chief now that Dax has isolated the signature, can you come up with a handheld tricorder to track it?"

"Yes Commander, I should be able to have one ready within the hour."

"Ok good, Dax while O'Brien is working on that I want you to continue to check for the signature. If you see it again let Odo know immediately."

"Ok, Benjamin."

"Doctor Basher if the killer is still aboard he could be impersonating someone. I want you to make sure that no one has altered any of your medical files or added any. If this is the Cardassians, they would have thought about everything so we can't afford to overlook anything."

"Ok, Commander."

"Major please check with First Minister Aar and offer our apologies and condolence for his personal guards that were lost in the attack."

"Constable I want you go pay Quark a visit, and see what you can find out from our local proprietor."

"That Commander will be my pleasure."

Soon Sisko is left alone in his ready room, and he wonders if the attack was isolated or part of some a bigger plan.

Back at Quarks Doctor Bashir is drinking alone when the Ferengi stops at his table.

"Well, doctor you so rarely visit us, who do I have to thank for you being here?"

"Quark you should be happy that you are not part of Starfleet."

"Doctor that's not luck, there is no profit being part of a bunch of explorers. But what's bothering you Sisko no letting you attend the science conference with Dax again? "

"No, not this time. Sisko gave everyone an assignment to find the assassin, but me. They don't think that I can help. Quark I sometimes think outside of medical they treat me like I'm use less. "

"Doctor, Commander Sisko does not feel that way about you. He thinks everyone has something they can do."

"I used to think that way too or maybe I had too much to drink."

"Doctor if I could pry, why does the Commander think that there is an assassin on the station?"

"I can't tell you that Quark, its Starfleet confidential information."

"Oh yes I understand doctor, maybe I could interest you to my top grade Andorian Ale on the house. No, charge."

"Oh Quark, I couldn't, besides don't you have an acquisition rule or something against that?"

"Rules, what are rules between two friends. Now bottoms up doctor."

Several drinks later

"Quark, I'm going to tell you but you must promise to keep it a secret."

"You know me I am the most trustworthy proprietor on this station."

"Alright, the commander saw someone try to attack the First Minister during the explosion. Odo could not find any trace of him, but one of the promenade cameras was able to get a picture of the attacker. Probably right now Odo's security team is probably closing in on him."

"Odo, that watchdog has been waiting for something like this to impress Sisko."

"Huh, what did you say?"

"Nothing doctor. I think that you have had enough."

"Hey Quark, I'm not done drinking that."

"If you want more, that will be five credits a glass," Quark says while walking away, leaving a confuse looking Bashir at the table.

Kira is at the first minister's room making sure that he was alright.

"Yes Major, as I told your security chief and the Emissary I am fine."

"I understand First Minister but you must understand our concern. I thank the Prophets that you survived this attack."

"Major does your Commander have any leads on this attacker?"

"First Minister Odo has already started his investigation, and we have a couple of good leads."

"Kira, this goes against protocol but between Bajorans because this was an attack against us. Who do you think was behind this attack?"

"First minister it had to be the Cardassians! They never wanted to leave Bajor in the first place."

"Child I understand your feelings for them, but if I died how could it benefit the Cardassians?"

"First Minister if you were murdered, it would weaken our already fragile provisional government. We both know despite the cruelty of the Cardassians they had sympathizers. Your death could be the opportunity they need to destabilize the government and leave a back door open for the Cardassians to return."

"Dear child I hope you are wrong because if you are right. That would mean that other Bajorans were involved in the attacked on the promenade."

Quark was hurrying down the guest quarters of the habitat ring of the station being careful to make sure that he is not being followed. When he reaches the last room, he signals for the occupant to let him in. When the door opens, he quickly goes inside, not realizing that Odo had replaced his left shoe and was with Quark every step of the way.
