(A/N I's only one scene and I know I'm a week late, I am so sorry! I know what's next but I sat down and hadn't gotten a single sentence father after half and hour, so this is what you're going to ge thtis week and hopefully I'll be more on top of things for the next update.
I wasn't... I edited this to change a little canon detail.)
First Breakfast
Amos sat down with his and Percy's breakfast, pancakes, and allowed all the summer's tension to pour off him. It was Percy's first morning back for the fall and they had a lot of catching up to do. He'd passed the letters along that had arrived for him the night before. It was amazing watching Percy open them enthusiastically. It was like he was five years old again.
But they had more to discuss this morning.
"So Thalia-the Thalia from your childhood dreams-is...alive?"
"Yup," Percy popped the 'p.'
"But she...didn't age? And is about your age?"
"A bit younger."
"But you're...friends?"
"More or less. Annabeth likes to compare us, and I do see how we're a lot alike, but half the summer we wanted to kill one another."
"You only knew each other for half the summer," Amos pointed out.
Percy snorted and poured more syrup on his pancakes.
"You know what's cool at camp?"
Amos winced as he imagined the answer. Percy had already explained how 'cool' lava pits and deadly obstacle courses were.
"We have these magical goblets-"
"Goblets?"
"that fill up with whatever you want."
"Percy."
"Nonalcoholic. Mr. D. is banned from alcohol. So, these are really cool already, but you can even change the color of the drinks!"
"I…" Amos tried to fit his head around this change in conversation. Was Percy really that reluctant to talk about Thalia?
"Of course I make everything blue. Annabeth picks on me and says I'd never be able to eat anything in the real world because non magical food is not blue."
"And where does Thalia fit into this?"
Percy shrugged and stabbed at his pancakes a bit more without taking a bite.
"It's weird. She follows Annabeth's lead a lot-which makes sense, it's Wise Girl-but that means she picks up a bunch of Annabeth's teasings. Some are okay-she'll call me Seaweed Brain and I'll respond with Pinecone Face- but sometimes I just get angry. And I shouldn't! Annabeth could do exactly the same thing and we'd just roll our eyes or shove each other and be done."
"But when Thalia does it you don't just move on?"
"It's different."
"I understand."
"You do?" Amos nodded. "Well good, 'cause I don't."
"You've been through a lot with Annabeth. You created a bond. Now Thalia is intruding on your bond while simultaneously strengthening the bond they shared before Annabeth made it to camp."
"Right…" Percy's furrowed brow made it seem like he didn't really understand, and Amos wasn't about to point out a good portion of this was probably based in jealousy of Annabeth's time and attention.
"Work on making a connection with her, not just having a mutual friend in Annabeth."
"Yeah… I can do that," he nodded to himself with a determined scowl.
