(A/N I know my writer's block tortured you just as much as me, so here you go! I'll make up for it by posting a second! lol
Seriously guys, I'm sorry. I was just lost with the POV issue.
Hope you enjoy!)
One day. Percy just wanted to go one day with his friends in the mortal world without an attack. They'd left the aquarium and were headed towards a turkish place a few blocks over for takeout when Beckendorf clued the demigods in to the fact they were being tailed. It wasn't even monsters this time, it was other demigods.
He shared a look with Annabeth, remembering their time aboard the Princess Andromeda.
"Selina!" Percy's voice was almost natural as he tried to come up with a plan. He floundered looking between his cousin and the daughter of Aphrodite. She looked scared.
"We were just talking about that bookstore!" Annabeth broke in. "Remember, the Russian one?"
"R-right! I… I would just love to go there."
"That sounds cool," Carter said nonchalantly.
"Yeah! I think it's just around the corner. You two should check it out and we'll meet you there with the food!"
At this Carter looked at Percy in confusion. Percy didn't want to leave his side, but Carter couldn't stay here. He looked at Selina again and she still had that haunted look about her.
"Yeah, the three of you can head over. You know where it is, right Annabeth?"
She hesitated and then nodded her head once, before reaching for Carter's arm.
"You sure?" asked Carter. He looked a little hurt, and Percy could feel his pain, but Percy just smiled.
"Yeah, man. Ask Wise Girl anything. See if you can trip her up at all. I need something to hold over her head."
They shared a smile, but it was forced on both sides, and then the trio was gone.
Leaving Percy, Thalia, and Beckendorf to face whoever Luke had sent to kill them.
.
Thalia couldn't put her anger into words as electricity flew through her spear, into the demigod she'd just maimed. Beckendorf and Percy didn't want to kill anyone, and frankly, she didn't either, but if it came down to their lives or the lives of her attackers she would make sure Percy and Beckendorf got out.
Of course, Percy was leading them down the block towards the beach. They'd notice the direction and then try to stall but the three worked well together at manipulating the traitors. Aegis helped too.
They'd just broken onto the boardwalk when Percy sent her a thrilling, maniacal grin.
"No, Percy! What if-"
She was cut off as a flood slammed into their assailants. The water dissipated quickly, but they were drenched, standing in an inch and a half of water. She, Beckendorf, and Percy were all bone dry.
She called a lightning strike.
.
"You seem a bit distracted, Annabeth," he bit his lip as he studied her. He was still convinced she was dangerous, Selina too, but it was easy to trust someone who shared a lot of the same interests.
"Oh, no. I mean, yeah. I just, expected them to be here by now."
He looked at Selina next while Annabeth watched the door. Selina kept playing with a bracelet. The chain was silver, but the charm was tucked under a thick band.
"What's that?" he asked, and Annabeth looked over to see what he was talking about.
"Hmm?" Selina blinked at him owlishly.
"Your bracelet. Is it important?"
"Oh, uh." She looked at it and forced her fingers away as she glanced at a curious Annabeth. "Not really. An old...friend gave it to me. I, uh, I guess I keep it 'cause I had a crush on him at the time." She gulped.
Carter dropped the subject as talking about her old crush obviously made her uncomfortable.
"I thought you liked Beckendorf?" Annabeth asked, not being as courteous as him.
"Oh, Charlie is amazing," she replied with a goofy smile on her face. Carter blushed a little feeling out of place.
"Then why do you keep the bracelet if you've moved on?"
"I-I don't know."
Annabeth squinted at her and all of a sudden Carter knew that the fear she inspired was well founded. Something was about to happen and he didn't want to be in the middle of it.
"Well, I think we should-"
"You know, just about every girl in Camp had a crush on Luke while he was still around?"
"Really?" Selina cleared her throat. "I didn't know you felt that way about him Annabeth."
Annabeth went white and then red in a matter of moments.
"That was lo-"
Carter could have cried in relief at Percy's timing as he rushed into the shop.
"Gotta go," he said between heavy breaths. His skateboard was missing. "Reinforcements."
Annabeth said something harsh in what Carter could have sworn was Ancient Greek and then the four ran from the shop. He didn't know why they were running, but he was glad to leave the conversation behind.
.
Annabeth watched closely.
They ran, they doubled back, they ran again.
Eventually they met up with Thalia and Beckendorf at the planned Turkish takeout, but she knew they weren't out of danger yet.
She 'tripped' and grabbed Selina's arm for support.
The bracelet broke and amid the scattered remains Thalia leaned down and picked up a scythe charm. All eyes, including a very confused Carter, landed on the daughter of Aphrodite.
"Carter," Percy started, still watching Selina, "let's bounce. I had a few other things planned before they crashed our day out."
"Is everything alright?"
"Yeah," Selina gulped at his tone. "My friends just need to get back. Unless you think you'll need help?" he asked her.
"No. We'll make it back fine."
He gave a nod, bought his and Carter's food, and headed back towards the beach. She could see Carter rattling off questions and Percy relax slowly as they made their way to the water.
"I-"
"No," Thalia cut her off, sparks flying from her fingers. "No. He was my best friend and I woke up to find him a traitor. If I can know he is wrong despite our history you can at the very least acknowledge the lives you put in danger for a charming smile." She was practically vibrating with anger by the time she finished.
"Selina," Beckendorf's voice was just as strained, but with different emotions, "let's go."
Tears slid silently down her face the whole way to camp.
