Chapter 3
Jamilah's POV
"Man, it's hot in here. Isn't it?" Nina said as she took off her school blazer and threw it over the chair head beside her bed. She folded her legs on her bed and began to fan herself using her left hand. The windows in our dorm room did little justice for us, as there was little breeze came through the glass panel.
I nodded, agreeing with her as I too took off my thick blue blazer and place it beside me on my bed. "Yeah, it is."
"They could have told us that we should wear our white blouse for the Sumner and when it reaches Fall/Winter, wear these hot blazers!" Nina complained as she lazily stretched over and zipped open her school bag(which was hung over the chair head) and took out her small exercise book. She didn't even bother to zip up her bag as she started to fan herself with the book.
I slightly shook my head in amusement at Nina for being a bit dramatic, but she does have a point. The school board or staff could at least informed us before coming back to school that we, the students should wear a white top for the Sumner and blazer for the Winter. But hey, it's Auradon Prep, they make the rules here.
There was a silence looming between the two of us, but the silence was cut short as Nina spoke.
"Hey, Jamie, remind me to buy a mini fan tomorrow Ok?" Nina's voice sounded a bit hopeful.
I nodded. "Sure thing."
"Are you sure?" Nina asked as she arched a brow.
I blinked for a moment then replied, "Yeah."
Nina looked unconvinced when I replied and I bit my bottom lip, also I lowered my head. I tend to forget most things that Nina asked me to do for her or not living up to my promise ever since I dated Chad Charming. I felt awful for doing this to my best friend. I hope I can remind her about the fan tomorrow.
Again, there was another silence between us but was cut short by Nina.
"Um, Jamie?" Nina asked.
I looked at her. "Yeah, Nini?"
Nina chuckled softly at her nickname that I called her and said, "About earlier, I'm sorry that I startled you about your boyfriend. I only did that because I don't want to see you get hurt."
A small smile crept up on my face as I shook my head at Nina's apology. But the last part she said about not wanting to see me get hurt, I became curious. What does Nina mean by that?
"Nina, what do mean by 'I don't want to see you get hurt ?" I asked curiously.
By now, Nina was already finished fanning herself by using her exercise book and had her hands on her lap as she answered, "Sorry, I didn't mean it. But the reason I said the last part though because I'm a bit overprotective of you."
I frowned at my best friend's statement. Hmm, overprotective, unless the reason Nina said that because maybe she was in a past relationship and that relationship didn't end well with her and got crushed by it. Or maybe Nina wasn't in any relationship at all but she wants to protect me from getting hurt or used, which Chad would never do. I don't know, these are just my guesses, considering that Nina is very introverted and she won't share her private stories with me or she did want to but like I said earlier I kept on pushing Nina away because I'm dating Chad.
Speaking of Chad, whenever I mention my boyfriend's name, Nina gets startled or uneasy when she heard his name. I wonder what's going on?
I know I already asked Nina this question before we went for lunch, but I can't help it because there's something off with Nina and she doesn't want to tell me. I'm not trying to force her or anything, I just want to know what's going on between her and Chad.
I shifted slightly on my bed(like sit up and straightened my posture)as I tucked a lock of my thick and long black hair behind my ear and I asked, "I know I asked you this question before, just to be sure why you look uneasy when I mention Chad's name?"
I completely feel horrible and guilty that I'm asking Nina this question again, it seems like I either don't see Nina telling the truth or I feel insecure and take it to heart what she said before we went for lunch and I wouldn't be surprised if she was a bit irritated by my question. Man, I feel bad.
To my surprise, however, Nina gave me a look, then shook her head and sighed. I had a very strong feeling that she was hurt, knowing my best friend, she's perfect at masking her feelings and emotions by putting on a poker face.
Nina waved her left hand back and forth casually. "Nah, like I said before, Your boyfriend is nothing more than a classmate, just as any guy at school or classes."
I sighed in relief at Nina's reply, but I still felt the guilt in my chest. However, I'm still not convinced by Nina's answer, but for now, I'll let it slide until the time is right.
Nina clapped her hands and said, "Alright, we have been talking about wearing blazers during the summer and your hot boyfriend for a little while now. So why don't we try to see if we can do our homework first, then grab some salted pretzels and watch some historical Northern Wei dramas that I had on my laptop like how it's still summer. How about that?"
A smile formed on my face as I heard Nina's suggestion, and I like it. We had indeed been talking about issues of wearing blazers during the summer and feeling guilty asking about Nina's uneasiness when I mentioned Chad's name. Besides, it's still summer, so we can still be able to relax and enjoy ourselves. Plus, Nina was a huge fan of historical Northern Wei dramas.
Nina took her Magical History notebook out of her school bag, which I snorted at when I saw it and began to flip the pages of her book for the assignment.
I too took my Magical History notebook out of my bag, which was also on my bed and started looking for the assignment that we got. Honestly, this school needs to stop let us go to classes that are meant for elementary school kids, even my younger brother had better classes than this and he's in middle school!
As I was about to start my homework, I heard my phone rang and vibrated in my skirt pocket.
Who could be calling me now?
Nina looked up from her book to me and asked, "Are you expecting someone?"
I shook my head with a frown as I took my phone out of my pocket.
"No," I answered and I looked down on my phone and saw it was a notification. The notification reads:
Meet me at ur locker.
-Chad.
I blushed slightly when I saw Chad's name. It was kind of a coincidence that just a few moments ago, we were talking about him and now he just sends me a text, telling me that I should meet up with him at my locker. I wonder what Chad has in store for me...
"Who was that?" Nina asked, slightly concerned.
I huffed. "Chad."
"Oh." Nina's expression was neutral as she went back to do her homework.
Again, I frown but this time at Nina. "What's wrong, Nini?"
She waved me off. "It's nothing. Why don't you see what your boyfriend wants."
"Are you're sure? All by yourself?"
Nina gave me the side-eye and laughed softly. "Of course sweetie, I can manage. It's not like Dr. Facilier will come and use his voodoo magic on me and turn me into a frog right?"
I chuckled. "Alright. Whatever you say. I'll take 5 minutes and come back. Ok?"
"Aye." Nina nodded, her curly hair bounced as her brown eyes still glued her book doing her assignment.
With that, I got off my bed, and slip on a pair of my fluffy bed slippers and left.
...
It didn't take me long to find Chad leaning against my locker, with his hands behind his back waiting for me. I smiled as I went up to my locker and my almost shaped brown eyes met his baby blue ones.
The next thing I knew was Chad leaned forward and gave me a quick kiss on my lips.
"Hey, babe." Chad greeted casually. "I was waiting for you."
I scratched behind my head. "Sorry, Nina and I were having a small discussion about wearing blazers during the summer and we were doing homework."
Chad nodded in understanding. "Fair enough. Wearing these blazers in the Summer was unnecessary."
I bobbed my head in agreement with him and my eyes glanced from his pretty face to his hands behind his back. Curious, I asked my boyfriend, "What that you're hiding behind your back?"
Chad grinned, showing off his perfectly white teeth that I'm almost certainly can make any girl get blind when he smiles. "Close your eyes and turn around."
I was confused. "What?"
"You heard me, turn around and close your eyes."
I did what Chad told me to do and then, I felt something cold and metallic around my neck and also a little heavy on my chest.
"Ok. You can open your eyes now and look down at your chest."
Again, I did what I was told and looked at my chest. I gasped as I saw the gift.
It was a rose gold necklace with a heart-shaped amethyst pendant.
I gently clasped the heart-shaped amethyst pendant and cradling it. I looked from the necklace to my boyfriend who was grinning.
"Do you like it?" Chad asked, slightly nervous.
"Do I like it? I love it!" I said happily, throwing my arms around Chad's neck as I pressed my lips on his for a sweet kiss which Chad returned the gesture.
As we kissed though, I can feel someone's eyes peering into me across from my locker. I can't tell who it whose eyes it belongs to because I hardly saw anyone in the hallways when I was going to meet Chad, but it feels weird though like that person is stalking me or something.
After the kiss, my amazing boyfriend studies my face for a moment and noticed that I looked a little uneasy. So, he asked, "Is something wrong?"
I shook my head and waved Chad off. "Nah. Well, while we were having our little moment, I feel some weirdo's eyes peering into me. And I was completely sure I didn't saw anyone before meeting you here. I kinda feel like they were stalking me or something."
Chad furrowed his thick eyebrows at my response. "Who's trying to stalk you?"
I simply shrugged. "I dunno."
Chad blinked at me and hummed. He then turned his head around and scanned the hallways to see if anyone's there. When Chad did that, his baby blue eyes landed on a certain figure and smirked.
"Hey, Shang!" Chad greeted casually.
My eyes widened and my heart skipped a beat for a nanosecond at the name as I slowly turned my head and my eyes followed where Chad's eyes were glued at. A fairly muscular figure with his long gray (Shang's hair was dyed in gray) hair tied in a loose man bun, never let down unless it was something special.
Lil Shang, Lonnie's older brother and one of the hottest guys in school who's also my older brother's best friend.
And I also called him a weirdo for looking at me while Chad and I were having our moment. Err...
Shang waved awkwardly as his cheeks flushed in embarrassment and quickly went back to his locker.
Chad shook his head and turned his attention back to me. "Well, it was Li junior. I guess he was looking for something and didn't even notice us. Haha. Jamilah?"
I wasn't even listening to Chad, as my focus was on Shang. Goodness, why Shang is so hot?!
I realized that I made a mistake.
Damn, what I've been thinking? Jamilah, you have a boyfriend in front of you and Shang's a friend for Pete's sake!
"Jamilah," Chad repeated my name.
"Huh?" I snapped back to reality and turned to Chad, who sighed.
"You were staring at Shang for a bit now, it seems like you're into him. Am I right or Am I right?"
My eyes pulp out of my sockets and shook my head quickly. "Heck no, I'm not into Shang. He's just a good friend of mine. Plus, I'm only into you and nobody else."
Are you sure about that, Jamilah? Are you sure that Shang is just a friend and nothing more?
I ignored my inner voice, and mean what I said, Shang is a good friend ever since we were little. He's like a second older brother to me and that's it. Why would I be into another guy when I already have a boyfriend?
I don't know, you tell me. And why you're staring at him when Chad was right in front of you?
Mmm, damn you inner voice!
"Hey," Chad began. "Why don't we grab a bite and hang out?"
Hmm, nice suggestion, but I promised Nina that we were gonna do our homework and watch historical Northern Wei dramas after.
"Babe, that sounds like a good idea, but I promised Nina we need to finish our homework," I said, but I didn't tell him that we were gonna watch dramas as well.
Chad gave me a pout and puppy eyes, which I chuckled at and I gave a peck on the cheek.
"But, I promise that hopefully by tomorrow, we'll hang out. Ok?
Chad smiled. "Ok."
The two of us stared at each other for a moment before Chad wrapped his arms around my waist as he pulled me closer for a hug. He lightly rubbed my back up and down.
"I love you, Jamilah," Chad whispered into my ear, giving my ear a tingling sensation.
"I love you too, Chad." My voice was barely a whisper. I took a glance at Shang, who quickly turned his head away and left. I wondered why Shang was watching us like this? But I'll ask him later.
Chad and I broke away from our hug, but I still had my arms around his neck and he had his arms around my waist. But, eventually, we completely let go of each other although we didn't want to.
"So tomorrow?" Chad questioned.
I nodded. "Tomorrow."
Chad looked pleased with my answer as he waved goodbye and turned on his and left like he was going outside.
I did the same and slowly walked back to my dorm. I feel good that Chad gave me a lovely gift like the necklace, but I feel uncomfortable when Shang was watching us. I knew for a fact that Shang always liked me, and I like him, but only as a friend, and nothing more.
But why I was staring at him while was my boyfriend was blatantly right there?
I kept on asking myself that question did I did that? Ugh, I guess it's safe to say that I'm into Shang, but I won't admit it.
I gently clasped my heart-shaped amethyst pendant on my chest and smiled to myself as I almost made it to my room.
I'm only into Chad, not Lil Shang and nobody else.'
Or so you say, Jamilah.
Ugh, go away you damn inner voice!
