Smile-Avril Lavigne

Chapter 13: Smile

A phone slammed hard against the table.

Tails who was packing his work into his backpack winced and turned slowly to see Sonic angrily grimacing. Sonic had been staring at his phone and calling Amy for a while and still Amy wouldn't reply. Seeing Sonic frustrated was tensional and Tails didn't know what to tell him.

"That's the eighth time I call her!" he growled. "She's officially ignoring me."

Tails clenched his teeth and slowly faced his backpack, but was interrupted by Sonic's groan as he stood up from the couch. "Tails!" He called out making Tails flinch. "Call Cream I wanna talk to her."

"Sonic I think you're going a little over the extent at the moment." He said sheepishly.

"Tails?" Sonic scold him which shut Tails up completely, but he changed the topic and looked away, "I mean she kinda is mad at you…"
Sonic blew air and frowned. "Yea, I don't understand her being mad. She's afraid of something I know it." He said thoughtfully.

"Afraid?" Tails repeated throwing his backpack over his shoulder.

"Of Sally…"

"Sally? Why?" He asked.

Sonic shrugged and looked at his phone and still no call from her. He bit his lip and shrugged. He looked up at his friend. "That's what I want to find out."

.:XxX:.

"Arghh!" Amy threw her books in her locker angrily and Mina stared questionably at her. Amy had been fuzzing about something and ever since they got to school Amy had been taking out her anger on objects. Sally was questionable as everyone else, but stared blankly at her.

"What's wrong with you?" Blaze asked narrowing her eyes. "You're acting weird."

Amy calmed her nerves once again and growled under her breath. "Is that all he did?" She asked a snarl within her voice.

"Yea," Mina softly said. "Why are you so upset about it?"

Amy closed her eyes and closed her locker without much force. She turned to them. "I feel uneasy about him," She admitted. Secretly inside her, her heart pounded and throbbed. She feared that maybe they'd find out that Sonic and Amy were hanging out from time to time and that was the last thing she wanted. Sally was cautiously watching her and so she had to be careful with her words.

"We all do, but you're acting kinda funny…" Mina said.

Think, Amy, think.

"He did the same too me…" She turned to Sally, her eyes piercing through her. "Something doesn't seem right."

The girl's eyes widened and they all gasped. "No!?"

The only one who didn't respond nor made any sort of expression change was Bunny. She only stared at Amy.

"What did he tell you?" asked Fiona sounding excited.

"He just started talking to me as if he knew me." Amy lied and she turned away from everyone. As everyone whispered continuously about Sonic Amy took a deep breath. Sally stepped up and shook her head. "Hmm, I find it strange he sudden acts as if he knows us. Did he say anything about Knuckles, Amy?"

If her memories recalled half of the time he usually is with Sonic, but Sonic only introduced him as a friend when they went to her work one time. Then there was the time where Sonic had told her a little bit of what Knuckles was like, but she didn't think it was necessary to tell her.

"He didn't say anything," she said hearing the uncertainty in her own tone.

Her eyebrows rose. "Really?"

"Yea,"

"Strange," She muttered.

The bell rang and Amy smiled at her girls. "I'll tell more later, I'm heading to class."

"Ok Bye Amy!" Everyone said waving. Amy walked towards the stairs and wondered if it was okay to do what she was doing. To lie to herself and say Sonic was the enemy.

"Just being a good friend"

Amy shook her head and frowned. Why was she having second thoughts about him? She didn't care if he was her friend. He was just another guy with stupid feelings and she had other priorities to worry about. She reached the third floor and just as she was going to enter her class she stopped half way finding Sonic leaning against the entrance to her class.

He was had a small smile, but something about his smile was weak. Amy cleared her throat and walked straight to her classroom. She was going to ignore him and walk pass him but Sonic stepped in front of her.

"Step aside."

"You've been ignoring my calls," He went straight into the topic and Amy rolled her eyes. "Yea, I didn't know who it was. You're not on my contacts therefore you're just a mere stranger."

"Why are you acting so aggressively towards me?" He asked.

"Stop talking to me and move. I need to get to class." She insisted, but Sonic wouldn't move. Sonic looked around and then his hands placed on to her shoulders. "Can I talk to you after school?"

"And what if I don't want to," She said forcefully.

"I'll go up to you when you're with Sally and hug you," He said smirking.

Amy blushed and backed away from him smacking his hand. "Meet me near the field. Now move," She said quietly pushing him away and entering her class. She didn't turn back and still flushed brightly after encountering him. She sat down at her seat and saw that he wasn't near the doorway anymore. She sighed and someone tapped her shoulder. Amy tensed but turned around her expression calm. A girl in her class handed her a paper and Amy remembered that she had allowed her classmate to copy her work. "Thank you," She said.

Amy nodded but didn't reply. She was too busy wondering what Sonic wanted to talk about, but breaking her thoughts was the teacher who was ready to start the lesson.

.:XxX:.

Class lasted longer than she expected it to. She couldn't understand how was it that she was so anxious to know what he wanted to talk to her about. As her thoughts went in deeper and deeper in depth the bell rang waking her up with a tingly dizzy feeling in her head.

"Ok, read chapters four for homework see you tomorrow."

But Amy was out of class. She rushed out into the hallway and kept her head down low so that nobody would see that it was her. As hard as it was not to recognize her she was mainly focus on not being seen by any of her friends. She turned around the corner to head for the stairs. She sauntered downstairs to the first floor. She turned down the hall to head for the exit that lead to the field but stopped immediately. Cold teal eyes penetrated her and Amy backed away unintentionally. Rouge was standing right in front of her. Her eyes narrowed, but Amy ignored her. She passed around her but her voice stopped her half way.

"You're one of Sally's sluty friends?"

Amy's hand clenched and she turned around to glare at her. Rouge stared at Amy with such malice look Amy could only conclude she was going to cause trouble. Rouge grinned and her hand rested on her hip. "You didn't deny it," She added on amusement glittering in her eyes.

Her brows furrowed. "Don't play with fire girl because you could seriously get hurt," She warned her darkly.

"Oh really, and is that a threat of yours?" Rouge asked with confidence in her tone. Amy's angry look twisted into a malevolent smile. "No, a warning,"

Rouge's eyes lids dropped half-way not convinced of her spiteful intentions. Amy then turned around and was going to walk away from her, but Rouge's next words set her off. "You're such a weak pathetic bitch,"

Amy furiously turned around and her hand extended out popping out a large hammer, red and yellow. She played its end with her fingers spinning it which was to either tempt rouge or scare her, Amy was ready. "Say that again, I'll slam those words right off your mouth." Amy gruffly announced to her and other people who were surrounding them.

Rouge got in a position to fight spreading her wings out. "Let's see you try."

At the moment where they were about three inches from each other, once they pounced for one another, a figure came in between them pushing both away and they fell to the floor. Rouge although was quick on her feet and by using her wings flipped and landed on her heels. Amy landed on her back and with a grunt opened one eye. Sonic was giving her a scowl look and he turned to Rouge. "Fighting at school, huh?" He stated.

"Sonic?" Rouge questioned. "Pushing a lady isn't like you."

"Not now Rouge. You're drawing more of a crowd!" Sonic scold her shaking his head. Rouge pouted streaming with anger. "I am!? That little shit "

"Stop cursing," Sonic told her and walked over to Amy who had stood up. Sonic stopped in front of her and smiled. "You ok?"

Amy was going to burst out at him for pushing her hard on the floor, but she stopped half way remembering that nobody knew that they were in acknowledgment with each other. Amy only nodded.

"You hurt?" He reached out for her arm where she had landed on and Amy could hear some girls swoon and whisper with excitement, but just before he grabbed her arm Amy pulled away and she backed up.

"Amy," He muttered in surprise for only her to hear, but she disregard him.

An arm wrapped around Amy's arm and she turned to her side annoyed to whoever was touching her arm.

Her eyes widened to finding Sally next to her. Sally looked angry and she was glowering at both Rouge and Sonic. Amy's heart sped faster and she tugged her arm away from Sally. Sally didn't seem to mind, she was trying to make a point towards her targets. "It's the devil itself, C'mon Sonic." Rouge mentioned to him, but he glared at her. His eyes looked cold and tired. Amy could feel somewhat of a concern feeling for him, but now wasn't the time. Even he seem to have surprised Rouge.

"I'm sorry for her behavior." Sonic sheepishly said.

Sally's face only got enrage, "Why are you and you're people bothering us?"

Sonic's brows rose. "My people…bothering?" He sounded so shocked. Amy's breath hitched quietly.

"You keep making contact with us! What do you want?!" Sally growled, but Sonic wasn't raffled by her lack of courteous manners.

"Um, but I barely even know you." He said rubbing the back of his neck. "You're friend needed help and I "

"Don't talk to us," Sally rolled her eyes and turned to Amy. "Let's go," She grabbed her arm and pulled her Amy away from the circle that was made by the students and she pushed her way through them. The last thing Amy saw was Sonic glaring at her but with some mercy. He only shook his head. Amy couldn't stand this look and turned away being pulled by Sally down another hall. School was over and she never had a chance to find out what he had to say.

Amy rambled down her neighborhood looking down at the floor. After Sally had tooken her out from that mess in school she began asking question that Amy refused to answer out of annoyance. She turned her back at her and walked away from Sally. She had saved her for the most part, but she didn't need saving. Amy frowned. Sonic's last features stayed printed on her mind. For some reason she felt afraid of what Sonic thought of her. She huffed and chuckled slightly annoyed with the fact that she was worrying. She stopped when a pair of red sneakers stood in front of her. Amy groaned and looked up as if she were in pain. Sonic had his arms crossed before her eyes, a scowl look forming.

"What do you want?" Amy harshly asked him.

Her words seem to have ticked Sonic more for the corner of his left eye twitched. "Why didn't you go along with it!?"

"With what?"

"With what I was doing?" He growled.

Amy averted to the side. "Look, Sonic, this whole trying to make Sally believe you guys are good isn't going to work out ok."

"But how would you know if we haven't tried it yet?" He asked sounding tired and hopeless. He took a step forward. "Amy," He was going for her hands, but Amy stepped away. Sonic chuckled and quickly his hands rushed to curl up with hers. He was so fast that Amy could see his hands. Amy's eyes widened. "Don't be afraid," He whispered.

Afriad? She thought. "That's an insult." She was able to manage out.

He smiled warmly at her. "Good,"

It was then that she felt his hands tightly gently around hers. A small jitter arose from her stomach and up to her throat. What was he doing holding her hands, but she didn't seem to mind. It felt calm…

She looked deep into his green emerald eyes and it was the first time she was looking directly at them. She couldn't read them but they looked so warm. It was too much for her to handle in a day she had to avoid looking directly at him. Sonic released her hands and chuckled. "Do you want to come over? Cream's coming too."

Amy's eyes peeked at his. Should she accept his offer? Amy couldn't tell what it was anymore but she allowed herself to smile a little. Sonic grinned upon seeing this. "You're smiling so I'll take that as a yes."

Amy took a deep breath and walked ahead of him. Sonic jogged to her side and bumped shoulders with her. Amy smirked at him and bumped shoulders back. Far in the distance a two blue eyes followed them cross a street and enter an orange house until they were gone within it.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Until Weeks pass goodbye :)
