You know, Captain America was the Super Soldier, as in 'the' perfect man. I naively thought that...well, being stronger than him physically speaking would be very hard. Sure, Colossus could lift more I think, and Steve would probably need to use his head a lot if he were to face Colossus without his shield, but I never really thought of anyone who'd be stronger than them.

That bitch just proved me wrong. Apparently, she didn't like the Avengers much and I had been sticking my nose in their business quite often so she didn't like me.

Basically, she punched me in the stomach, sucker-punch me in the face and I was sent flying, falling through the window of the abandoned factory. It was a window high on the wall, so I fell from several meters.

She was alone though.

I got up painfully, thanking the fact I was more resistant I used to be. I'd get cute bruises though. At least I didn't die like a regular human being would have.

I watched her jump from another window, landing effortlessly on the ground near me.

"Show off," I hissed under my breath, standing up.

"You're still alive," she noted with fake surprise.

"Kind of wish I wasn't, you hit hard," I replied, rubbing my jaw.

"I'll take that as a compliment." We were near the Hudson. The area was deserted but...I didn't want to make too much noise.

She wouldn't let me have this my way though.

She would beat me to a pulp if she got her hands on me. As she started to run at me, I made spikes of dark matter and threw them at her. She punched her way through them, so before they touched her I liquefied some of them to tie her down. I tried to use telekinesis to break some bones but...they were resistant, too much for my level.

Eventually, when she broke free out of raw strength, I lifted her up. She looked down, then at me.

"See you never!" I threw her in the Hudson, creating heavy weight of dark matter on her.

Steve said to keep the guy alive, not the henchwoman and my moral compass was still not the greatest, if not the worst on the team.

I went back to my car painfully. Okay, it did not kill me but damn it hurt like hell. I sighed painfully once I was behind the steering wheel and looked at the time. The night had fallen already.

I started the engine and left, my phone on speaker on the seat next to me.

"Wade? I just sent a very strong woman in the Hudson. I'd like to say she's dead, but a part of me doubt it."

"You met Less Angry Rosie O'Donell?" I rolled my eyes. "You okay? She hit hard."

"Yeah, a few bruises and I fell from quite high but I managed. What about you?"

"Oh well, Ajax has Vanessa."

"He what!?"

"Yeah, that's what's happening in my mind right now. Anyway, find him for me."

"What bu…" He hung up on me. "Fuck my life."

The next morning, I woke in my car, near the abandoned helicarrier they had taken over. As I had thought, the girl came out of the water and I followed her.

I texted Wade where I was and left my car, which I had hidden because I cared about it, behind to spy on the bad guys. They were apparently getting materials from the helicarrier and honestly, Fury shouldn't leave his toys around.

After an hour, I looked behind me to see Wade with Piotr and Ellie.

"Morning to you," I greeted them with a nod.

"What do we have Addie?"

"Vanessa seems okay, scared and confused and thinking that if you are actually alive she's going to kill you herself, but she seems okay." Wade nodded.

"That's my girl."

"Francis and the woman I faced yesterday are there as well, and other people not really worth mentioning, just cannon fodders." I texted Steve, telling him to come where we were because some of SHIELD's old tech was involved. "Let's deal with them before Steve and the Avengers show up, unfortunately what they're stealing is our jurisdiction."

"Oh they won't have any fun once they're here," Wade assured us.

"Wade…" Piotr said in a warning tone.

"Come on, now's the time for our hero entrance." He rubbed his hands in front of him. "Time to make chimi-fuckin'-changas."

We walked toward the bad guys, me between Wade and Piotr.

"Hey, where's your duffle bag?" Ellie asked Wade. Wade looked behind him.

"Fuck!" He took his phone and started pacing while trying to reach his cab.

"I'm gonna head to where Vanessa is," I told Piotr. "The woman is very strong physically speaking, deal with her."

Gunshots were heard shortly after I left them. I dealt with a few men on the way, knocking them out instead of killing them because I would not have a lecture from Steve and Piotr. I had geared up as I had my equipment in my car.

Yeah, I figured Wade would make me help him and I was planning to anyway so I came prepared. Well, not yesterday, I wasn't exactly prepared, but I was right now.

I looked up and made a platform to go up, jumping down from it once I was on Francis' level. I hid, watching him screaming at Wade with Vanessa in his grip. Francis then put Vanessa in a weird glass device as Wade arrived too. He made a brief sign in my direction.

He wanted me to take care of Vanessa and leave Francis to him.

"You were right beautiful. Red is my color."

"Wade?" Vanessa called him, stunned.

"Don't worry baby, you're gonna get out of that shit-box."

"What better way to crawl back inside that head of yours?" Oh, Wade's mind was off-limit for anyone.

"You never left."

"But you did asshole!" I almost felt bad for Wade, but I sympathized with Vanessa more.

"Oh deep breath darling." Dammit, why did the bad guy Francis had to be British? He was hot, and British, but a psychopath. "Oh wait." He pressed a button. "Wrong choice of words." Vanessa started to struggle to breath.

"I hope they blocked pain to the very last nerve, cuz I'm gonna go looking!" Wade threatened him, Ajax taking twin axes.

They started fighting, Wade taking Francis away from us. I made a spike of dark matter that broke the glass and Vanessa took a deep breath. I shot the guys fighting a look and rushed to Vanessa, keeping an ear opened to Francis' thoughts.

Vanessa widened her eyes at me as I opened her casket.

"You knew?"

"Please don't kill me?" I replied in a small voice, not wanting to anger the woman.

"Once we're out of here I swear that you two…" I stopped the ax coming behind me and grabbed it once stopped in the air. I turned around.

"Stay behind me," I told Vanessa more seriously.

"Look at that, an Avenger," Francis said as he approached us. Behind him I saw Wade down, a knife in his head. "The one and only Cryptic who kept bugging us for months." He pointed his finger at me. "Very annoying."

"Good to know. So, Sabretooth, it was a warning?"

"Yeah, something like that," he admitted.

"Your Boss doesn't like me much I guess." He smirked hauntingly. "Aksel Ivanov used to work with you, didn't he?"

"Him dying was a good riddance for all of us, he played on too many teams," Francis told me. "But you're overestimating yourself. The big Boss doesn't think that much of you."

"Well that's hurtful." I threw his ax back at him but he caught it.

I took my katana handles, touched the titanium on my sleeve and engaged the guy. I could feel his strength in each of his blow. Fortunately, I saw his blows coming before they happened, even if he kicked me behind the knee too fast for me to dodge. I fell on one knee and stopped his axes with my katana.

"You're better than I thought you'd be in close-range," he confessed.

"I'm trained by Captain America and Black Widow dumb-ass," I replied with gritted teeth.

I had adaptability, but what I did yesterday might have tired me more than I thought. I stretched out two fingers and dark matter appeared, rushing at him. He dodged and threw his ax at Vanessa, but I made a wall of dark matter in front of her that stopped it.

"You know, we have many ways to work with people but I have to admit, the Winter Soldier Program is quite something." My face turned cold. "You'll give Black Widow my thanks for putting that on the internet." I gritted my teeth in anger.

There were so many ways to kill him in the blink of an eye, but Wade was up and back in the game.

"Addie, get out of here with Vanessa!"

"Got it!" I grabbed her by the arm and ran toward the edge.

"Wait Addison wha…"

"Trust me on this!" I made her jump with me and she screamed, but I made a platform below our feet that took us way behind the explosion Ellie had just caused.

When we both landed, I turned around and saw the helicarrier just collapsing on its side. I spotted Colossus running toward us with Ellie and the bitch. I stopped the rubble about to fall of them long enough for him to reach us.

"You're never too cautious," I muttered, touching the titanium on my sleeve and wrapping dark matter chains around the woman's whole body.

"Woohoo!" We looked up at Wade, waving at us. "My God, that was so…" Francis came out of nowhere and tackled him to the side, the two of them falling.

"You have so much explaining to do," Vanessa said with a look in my direction.

"Hey, I wanted to tell you!" I raised my hand to my earpiece when I heard Sam's thoughts nearby. "Okay, my colleagues are close, I'm gonna make sure Wade doesn't kill him." I gestured at the woman. "Is she…"

"Out cold." I nodded and patted Piotr's arm.

"Keep an eye on her for me."

I left them, while keeping my restrains on her though, to go to Wade. He had a gun at Francis' face.

"Wade please, don't kill him," I whined.

"But he lied about giving me my face back!"

"Yeah, not really surprised there," I muttered under my breath. Francis was so bloody.

I walked up to them and started patting the guy.

"Why are you touching him?" Wade asked me in shock. I looked in his pockets and found a piece of paper.

"Looking for a lead, the main reason I came here!" Even with his mask, I knew the pointed look he was giving me. "With saving Vanessa of course." I found a phone and Francis tried to move. Wade kept him down.

"What, did the lady find something interesting?"

"Anyway Wade, him and the woman will be taken care of."

"But I really want to kill him."

"Unfortunately, we'd like him alive for interrogation." I looked above my shoulder. Sam had just landed, his wings going back inside of his jet-pack.

"Sweet mother of baby Jesus, is that Falcon?" Sam walked up to me.

"Cap will be here soon."

"Wilson, this is Wilson…" I said under my breath.

"I'm still the best one," Sam stated as a matter-of-fact.

"I'd like to have a word about that," Wade refuted.

A few minutes later, Steve arrived in full Captain America gear, Vanessa by his side.

"I don't know if I should be fangirling or scared of Vanessa." He looked at me. "What do I say?"

"Sorry and I love you, please forgive me?" I suggested. "Go." He stood up and I restrained Francis with dark matter.

"Captain, big fan," he said when he walked past Steve. "I love our underwear line, your face really flatters my…" Vanessa grabbed him before he could finish his sentence.

"My face is on underwear?" Steve muttered to himself in shock. He joined us and looked at Francis. "You're under arrest for illegal human experimentation." He smirked in reply.

"You think arresting me will stop them?"

He was taken to a prison called the Raft with his ally, Angel Dust apparently.

Once back at the Compound, Vanessa scolding me for not telling her about Wade but they were back together, I looked at what I had found. FRIDAY hacked into Francis' phone but I kept looking at the paper I had found. It was nothing interesting, just a regular piece of paper you'd find in a company with the name of the company written on it.

However, the name was bugging me.

"FRIDAY?"

"Yes Miss Carter?"

"Find everything you can about the 'Essex Corporation' please."

I was pretty sure I had heard that name before and it was giving me the chills. The bad kind.

"I asked FRIDAY."

"And here I am," Tony replied. "Why the sudden interest in the Essex Corporation?" He sat down at my desk and I closed the door of my room.

"Because...it's the lead I've been waiting for a year. The...workshops in NYC...I'm sure there are still some, but Wade found a major player and we arrested him. Whatever this Essex Corporation is, I'm sure it is linked to the workshops, so Weapon X. I looked through his phone, they're selling their results to the highest buyers, I don't even want to know what for but…"

"People buying mutates is troublesome, especially knowing how strong the two you faced were, and how Wade, well Deadpool, cannot be killed."

"Tell me about it…" He pursed his lips. "So?"

"Well, the Essex Corporation was founded by Nathaniel Essex in 1976. It's an important biological and pharmaceutical corporation from the UK."

"They develop drugs?" Tony nodded. "Huh, great cover to hide mutant experimentation and be associated with the Weapon X program."

"They don't have to justify some of their equipment. The company is successful and has several firms across the globe and the CEO is a benevolent wealthy man."

"Sarcasm."

"He founded the Essex House for Mutant Rehabilitation in the city." I frowned. "You heard me right."

"I don't like that."

"Neither do I."

"You still seem tired though."

"Do I?" I nodded. "Have you watched the news recently?"

"Ha, that. It's about news channels wondering what the cost is for our saving job?"

"Yeah...that," he admitted in a mumble. "What do you think about it?"

"Me?" He stared. "I...I think we should be more involved in the aftermath. After Sokovia...I woke up at the Tower when we should have helped digging up the bod…" I pursed my lips.

"I agree." He stood up. "Cap is busy with Rumlow and looking for his lost bud, so the PR aspect of the Avengers falls onto me. It gets exhausting and I can't really tinker with anything."

"I'm sorry, I doubt I'm the best person to help you with that." He waved me off.

"I wouldn't ask you anyway. You being on the team is...quite important regarding the view people have on mutants. The Xavier Institute is important to help the young ones to control their powers, you show you use them for good."

"Thanks for the pressure."

"Just keep doing what you already are doing. I'll go check that rehabilitation facility."

"How are you planning on getting information?"

"I'm not donating money without knowing what's going on inside." I grinned.

"I love your money."

"I always knew you were interested, ever since you came out of your mother." I rolled my eyes. "Just don't make a move until I contact you, okay?" I nodded and returned his hug. "You're better concerning Barnes?"

"So much tact," I muttered. "I...try to not think about it."

"Good. That's good. You can do better." I smiled bitterly.

"Don't...try that."

"Right, sorry, broken heart."

It had been a few months, the wound had stopped bleeding but was still opened and numb. It wouldn't require much for it to bleed again.

April 2016, Avengers Compound

I grinned, victorious, as the quinjet was back on the ground.

"Annnd I'm still lifting more than you." Wanda glared at the jet.

"You've had more time to practice," she replied with her heavy Sokovian accent.

"You'll get there eventually." We turned to Pietro and Vision, who were training as well.

Basically, Pietro had to hit Vision before the latter could phase. So far, it seemed pretty even.

"By the way, anything weird with the stone?" I asked Wanda in a whisper, watching the guys.

"Nothing new, it doesn't act out of Vision's control."

"Good to know."

"Okay, time to train all toge…" The air was knocked out of my brain as Pietro hit me full speed, sending me in the wall. "...ther...Damn it Pietro, I already told you to wait for me to finish my sentences!"

"Natasha always says your enemy won't wait the end of your speech to move," he replied with a cocky smirk.

"Yeah bu…"

"It is good training for you too Miss," Vision added. I looked pleadingly at Wanda, who looked away.

Traitor.

I jumped on my feet.

"Fine, let's go." This time, Pietro barely made a movement I already had him under my control. I lifted him up while Wanda tried to deal with Vision, but Vision already had grabbed Pietro, breaking the control I had over him.

We trained a lot together. Not that the other Avengers were bad or not good enough, but the four of us had powers and it could create a deep gap during training.

Steve entered the room as Wanda kept Vision from phasing and Pietro was moving his legs in the air as I twirled him around.

"Carter." I put Pietro down. Steve did not use my last name when it was not seriously serious. "Meeting room, now."

"Gotcha." Natasha and Hill were already there. "Hello."

"We've received word from Tony," Maria told me, a tablet in her hands. "We looked through the files we have from the SHIELD and it match."

"What does?"

"There is something wrong with Essex Corporation," Natasha stated gravely. "Something really wrong. This Ajax is tough to interrogate, it was minim but there were reactions when I mentioned Essex."

"That and from what Tony said, there is something strange with that house for mutant kids with his name in NYC." I pursed my lips.

"Mission?"

"We have a place," Steve stated as a building appeared on the holographic screen in front of us. "It's in the area of Darkmoor in the north of England, the Darkmoor Energy Research Center."

"Energy Research?" I repeated, confused.

"Our reaction," Nat said, leaning her elbows on the table. "It seems the Essex Corp has some share in that place and is funding some of the projects. There must be something that could be useful for...whatever they want to do."

"If, let's say, they were to mix some new form of energy with mutant experimentation…" Hill trailed off and I took a deep breath.

"Bad scenario."

"You're the one who knows the most about this case, you're going," Steve stated with a clenched jaw. "Then I was thinking about me an…"

"Not you Steve." He frowned at me. "James is still somewhere around and Rumlow is more and more troublesome. You have to find them. At least one of them to make sure one is not used by the other."

"Who are you thinking of then?" Nat inquired curiously.

"Vision and Pietro. Pietro's speed will be useful, I'm sure, and Vision is strong and can hack into any computer easily, two things we'll need."

"Just three people…"

"It's an investigation Steve," Black Widow reminded him.

"You approve?"

"It's not the best, but far from the worst and she's not wrong. Barnes and Rumlow are also issues we have to focus on." Steve moved his eyes between Nat, me and then Hill, who nodded.

"Fine, but if you feel it's too much then call for backups." I saluted and he breathed out in frustration. "I'm serious Addie."

"I know Steve, I know.

Pietro was excited to finally have some real action. Vision listened quietly to the order.

Wanda felt excluded but as I told her already, having us both on the same team was not the most useful and she would be more useful here.

"I worry using one of the quinjets might get us in troubles with the local authorities," Vision noted as I landed the jet among trees.

"We're the Avengers, it doesn't matter," Pietro replied, putting his shoes on. I didn't reply, activating the camouflage mode of the quinjet. I looked through the window.

The place was...desolate. We were in some moors but it seemed like a lot of the vegetation was just dead or dying and the whole area seemed...dark. The sky was extremely cloudy, the sun not piercing through.

"I don't think I can get used to that Vis," Pietro told Vision, who looked like a regular male man.

"I thought I had mastered it quite well," he replied, looking at himself.

"The stone is still shining," I told him, walking past him. The door of the jet closed, I put the keys in my pocket.

Yeah, we had keys for the quinjets we had.

I looked around with a frown.

"Something wrong Addie?" the Sokovian asked me.

"Just...never mind. The facility should be nearby, let's check it out. And remember, we do not talk to anyone, just look around. Don't be seen." I shot the shining stone a look. Vision put his hand over it.

"I'll be careful." I turned on the earpieces in my ear and we went toward the facility before separating.

The place seemed to be guarded. A research center in the middle of nowhere probably had to hide dangerous things, hence the security. I listened to the whole complex without a word.

There were many things I did not understand, my brain whole-heartedly rejecting the scientific terms used. I mean, it was useless to pretend I cared and understood.

I frowned when some thoughts about stealing appeared.

"Guys, there's some…" There was an explosion, the whole side of a building catching on fire. "Shit! We need to evacuate the place!" From the corner of my eyes, I spotted someone leaving on a bike, quickly followed by many others. "Survivor spotted, followed by hostile people, I'm following them."

"We'll handle the evacuation." I took off on a platform after Vision's words.

I was flying high so that I wouldn't be seen. Eventually, after a few kilometers I heard some of the goons thinking the guy was dead after falling from a cliff. I dived down away from them and looked for said man, not hearing his thoughts anymore. I ended up spotting him, laying on his stomach and face, bleeding from the head.

"Please don't be dea...what the?" There was a dim blue light and two people, a man and a woman, were in front of the guy. I couldn't see really well with the darkness around us, but...well it was weird, they just came out of nowhere.

Worst, I couldn't read their minds.

After a few seconds where the wounded somehow managed to take one of things the two showed him, the man turned toward me. I took a step back. He was old, had a khaki beret and dress pooling down his feet. Basically, he looked like a wizard.

"You're tainted," he said, suddenly right in front of me. I fell in shock, a stunned expression on my face.

"How...what…"

"She chose you and your powers are slowly getting in sync with the fabric of reality around you," he elaborated. His beard was long and white. He started to stroke it. "How interesting how things are similar yet different on this Earth." I blinked.

"This Earth?" Who was that man? "Sorry Merlin, but there are more important things here, like what you and that woman are doing to that man."

"Of course." I frowned.

"You don't care about the nickname?"

"What nickname?" We exchanged a long stare, the guy now standing and fighting off bad guys. "I am Merlyn." I snickered.

"Yeah right." His face was serious. "Wait...Merlin is a fictional character, in a legend, you can't…"

"Isn't Thor a legend as well?" He had me there. "I have no interest in convincing a mortal, especially one...not complete yet." What?

They left when the man defeated another one, who had transformed into some knight of some sort. It was just very confusing.

There was an awkward look between the man and I. I showed the man whimpering on the ground.

"Nice work," I told him.

"Thanks," he replied in a deep but young voice. "You're...an Avenger?"

"What gives, my face?"

"The letter 'A' on your suit," he replied and I deflated. Of course, Steve or Tony were more popular.

"I can't let you go like that, you know that right?" Above us were police cars' sirens. "Oh well, it's better if they don't see me so just explain yourself new super hero."

I hid and followed him when he took off in the air after talking to the police.

"Do you fully understand what happened?"

"I got an amulet that gave me magical powers," he droned at me. "Apparently...I'm Captain Britain now."

"Well now it's almost plagiarism. People without the rank of Captain followed by the name of their country…" We landed near the facility.

"Why is an Avenger here?" he asked me. He wanted to know more about me, but it was clear he was still confused as to what had just happened to him.

"Investigating on someone with shares in the facility, but it blew up shortly after we arrived, I followed you and...well, you happened. Merlyn...happened actually."

"Him and Roma." I blinked and his dark blue eyes looked at me. "His daughter from what I was told, they reside in Otherworld."

"Otherworld," I repeated. "Of course, how could I not think about this earlier?"

"You know about the place?"

"Of course I don't!" I exclaimed. "I'm not sure I believe that guy was actually Merlyn, but then again I played video games with Thor, God of Thunder so what am I supposed to believe!?" I took a deep breath. "Sorry."

"I should be the one freaking out, I was given the Amulet of Might by Merlyn and his daughter, the one who fought with the King Arthur and all that comes with that legend!" he shot back. I raised a brow.

"Welcome to the world of superhero where everything you believed suddenly becomes wrong." He put a hand on his chest and his suit glowed before vanishing, leaving a blue amulet around his neck. "Hey, blue eyes and blond hair, I'm starting to think the diversity among Captains something is not much."

He was a little bit shorter than Steve but not by much but well built, with a strong jaw, thin lips, long nose. His wavy dirty blond hair was pushed on the side.

"Addison Carter," I introduced myself, stretching out my hand. He looked at it and shook it.

"Brian. My name is Brian Braddock."

Thank you all for reading! Don't hesitate to leave a review!

I love the MCU but for this fanfiction, I will take elements from the Marvel Comics, so Earth-616, like it's the case for Captain Britain, Merlin (spelled Merlyn in comics) and Roma. It's actually quite fitting with Addison's powers and their development. I did not read the comics, every information I had is from the Marvel wiki fandom, so you can go check this website out if you want further explanation.

Bye!
