April 2016, Darkmoor Research Centre, England

"So you're going to trust a man you met two days ago," Pietro said in an accusing tone.

"I've looked him up. Doctor Braddock seems to be a respectable man."

"See, Vis agrees." Pietro didn't seem convinced.

I looked around. The attack was two days ago and people were actively working to clear the place. There was a whole zone that had been put in quarantine and people came in and out from it with full yellow gear. Apparently, there was some radioactive stuff there so...they had to be cautious.

"He said he'd be able to help us out."

"Why would he help us?" the Sokovian inquired.

Because apparently his twin sister was a mutant and Brian was asked a lot of questions about his family. His dad was also a doctor and Sir James Braddock apparently. He died along with his wife, murdered. The culprit was still around.

"Miss Carter," Brian's voice said in front of us.

"Doctor Braddock," I replied and he gestured to the two men with him they could go. "How is Doctor Travis?"

"He'll make a full recovery," he replied with relief. He looked at Pietro, who was scowling, and then Vision, who looked like a regular human with no weird orange stone in the forehead. "Please follow me." He led us to his office and shut the door behind us. "Out of curiosity, are you Doctor Carter's daughter?"

"David Carter?" He nodded. "Yeah, why?"

"He worked here briefly." I frowned. "He was working on a new form of energy but it was left unfinished." Huh, probably the Tesseract. "I've read most of his works, very interesting."

"Thanks? I do…"

"Can we talk about what we're here for?" Pietro interrupted us rudely. I shot him a glance above my shoulder.

"Of course. Doctor Essex was one of the founders of this place and funded its creation. He always had an eye over what was happening." I looked down.

"Ever since 1976?" Vision asked, just to be sure. Brian nodded.

"It appears so. You...mentioned there seems to be an interest in mutants?"

"That's what we think." Brian pursed his lips.

"I am not technically allowed to tell you that but...the projects in which Essex Corp was involved were projects regarding energy sources that could potentially create changes in people."

"Changes?" Pietro repeated, now more interested. Dad...what did you find in your research?

Energy sources that could create changes in people? Like Wanda and Pietro with the Mind Stone? Me with the Reality Stone? The Tesseract had been on Earth for a long time, did someone change because of it?

"If you have access to your father's research, I'd suggest you look into it. Maybe there's something in there," Brian advised me.

"I don't speak physics."

"Then find someone who can." Maybe Beast could.

"Mr Stark has kept your father's works Miss, we should look into it once we are back in America," Vision suggested and I nodded.

"So what, we just go home now?"

"No, we're here to find information about Essex, we're finding information about Essex." I smiled sweetly at Brian. "Hey, would you meet us here tonight?" He narrowed his eyes at me.

"I could get fired for that."

"Nobody has to know," I said with a wink. He was still doubtful. "There is apparently something wrong Brian, please help us out before it gets...worst than it is right now."

"There has been victims already," he guessed easily with a pointed look.

"Yes, for now it's in the US but I wouldn't be surprised if there's some in Europe as well." He was Captain Britain and the little I had seen showed me he had the same kind of love for his country as Steve.

He sighed and rubbed his forehead.

"I've known you for two days, just two days and yet...fine, I'll do it." I grinned at him. "Come back at eleven tonight.

"Thanks, I...we owe you one."

"You bet you do."

We went back to the quinjet in silence, but Pietro blew up once there.

"Okay, what's between you and Braddock?"

"Sorry?"

"There's some inside joke we're not a part of!"

"I met him when the lab was attacked and he almost died, that's all." There was no use telling them Brian had been given magical powers based on his confidence by Merlyn and Roma.

We had talked about his new powers yesterday. He was still confused but needed to know the extent of his powers. He could fly, had superhuman strength, reflex, agility, the whole thing but only when he had his suit on.

"Look, what's important is that he's helping us and is on our side."

"Are you sure about this?" Vis asked.

"Yeah...I think. He gives me vibes similar to Steve's."

"Just because he's giving you Captain America vibes?" Pietro inquired with a scowl. "I don't buy it."

"It doesn't matter. Tonight we're investigating. Vision, I'm counting on you for computer stuff."
"Of course." I looked at Pietro.

"Just trust me on this Pietro, okay?" He pursed his lips.

"If it goes wrong I refuse to be blamed for it."

"That's fair."

We went back to the lab at eleven, Vision now back to his regular appearance. Brian was waiting for us in front of the building. He looked at Vision up and down.

"There are information in the paper archives, I'm sure of it, and others on our servers." I shot Vision a look. "Please, refrain yourself from going through research and such."

"Of course, only information about the...owners of the place." Brian nodded.

"I'll stay with the one going to the computer side of things, so...Vision, right?"

"Indeed." Brian pointed to our left while Vision and him left to the right.

"Let's get this over with," Pietro muttered under his breath.

"Don't be so angry."

"I'm not, I'm frustrated. They're two different things." I rolled my eyes when we reached the archives.

"You know, I don't read your mind because the speed gives me a headache, but I know you're not entirely truthful."

"I'm not entirely lying either."

"Well yes but…" There was a quick blur of silver and blue and Pietro had files in his hands. "Useful."

"We're done."

"I'd like to check myself."

"Now who's not trusting wh…" I made a wall of dark matter in front of us.

The claw-like nails still went through it. I gritted my teeth as Pietro moved. He sent who I knew to be Sabretooth in a wall.

"Okay, that was not planned," he told me back next to me.

"It seems like someone does not want us to know too much."

There was an explosion. Not near us, but toward where Vision and Brian were.

"We're under attack," I heard Vision say in my earpiece.

"Yeah, us as well. We have one opponent here, you've got two."

"Doctor Braddock is already taking care of one."

"Wait, the guy can fight?"

"Yeah, kind of." Victor got up and I stopped him when he started moving, lifting him up. "What do you want?" I read his mind, but his thoughts were...strange, to say the least. They were human thoughts but almost coordinated like an animal?

Strange. However, he wouldn't be the first mutant to show massive animal traits. Let's think, he went through the Weapon X Program as well, adamantium as well, healing abilities like Logan...enhanced senses. Troublesome.

His physical strength could, I think, match my telekinesis. I couldn't underestimate him.

Good for me, I had Pietro with me. Sabretooth could have enhanced sense, it was almost impossible to see Pietro coming.

I shared a look with him.

"So, what do you want?" I asked again.

"The...mutant," he replied with a vicious grin for me, fangs showing. "The blood was different."

Shit.

There was another explosion and it rocked the building, breaking the control I had over Victor. He landed smoothly on the floor. Pietro made his move, running at him. He punched him in the face, tilting it back but Victor remained standing, getting over it quickly. I grabbed my katana handles, made blades and stopped his claws.

They went through. Adamantium.

Shit.

I gritted my teeth and created a wave of dark matter at my feet, turning it in spikes and throwing them at him. He put some distance between us but Pietro punched him again in a blur, making sure my black spikes would stab him.

They did. In the arm, shoulder, stomach and leg.

I spread the dark matter in the open wounds, breaking his body from within. The adamantium was making it extremely hard, but somehow, remembering Cap's shield was helping in adapting the strength needed.

He barely screamed as I dropped him on the floor.

"That was brutal," Pietro commented.

"It was necessary."

"Really?"

"Yeah, because it won't keep him down for long." I grabbed Pietro's wrist. "Let's go find the others." Yet, I went the other way.

"Addie, that's…"

"I know," I replied quietly.

I was luring Victor away from Brian and Vision.

I could feel him following.

"Get us away." He picked me up and I shut my eyes, opening them when we were outside in the night.

He put me down.

"He's coming. We need to neutralize him, for good."

"We can knock him out."

"He has a thick skull, we'd need a lot of power to knock him out." I had seen Wade getting back up after being stab in the freaking skull.

"You have a plan?"

"Staying alive is the main plan." I pursed my lips. "He seems to be going for me, so you might be the key to victory." He smirked cockily. "Not now."

"It's imprinted in my brain already."

"Don't give him a second to breath, okay? I'll take each opening you give me."

"How do you neutralize the guy?"

"My guess would be water really." He frowned. "He has a lot of metal in his body, it would make him sink."

"Is there water around?"

"No idea. No time to look." I gave him a push in the shoulder when Victor came out of the building. He was pissed.

He disappeared out of my sight as a blur of blue and silver surrounded him while Pietro ran around him. Then he started hitting him and I created dark matter based on where his thoughts were around his feet. Victor jumped out of it a second before I could block him, grabbing Pietro's fist somehow and breaking his arm. Then, he torn through the dark matter I had above him, used it as a leverage and dived toward me. I grabbed my katana handles and blocked him, kicking him in the stomach when I could. He seemed surprised at the strength before we exchanged blows harder and faster.

I was trained by Steve, Nat and James but Victor was older and his experience beat any of my skills at the moment.

He knocked the air out of me when he kicked me hard in the chest and dug his claws in my side before I fell. I yelled in pain as he clenched his hand, literally lifted me with one hand and throwing me on the ground. I clutched my side in pain and watched him coming to me again but Pietro sent him flying before. I managed to sit up and looked at my hand.

It was covered in blood.

"Addison, are you okay!?" Pietro asked me with wide eyes, kneeling next to me. He approached his hands but stopped them, not knowing what to do.

"I don't know, it hurts like hell but...it hurts like a flesh wound, I hope nothing important was injured." I gulped. "I'm debating whether or not we should behead him or I should break his neck."

"I'm all for it." Victor got up.

"How's your arm?"

"Not that bad." I narrowed my eyes when a woman appeared next to him and they fled. "Should we follow them?" I clicked my tongue when I heard a lot of thoughts.

"No, we have other issues." Vision landed next to us.

"Miss Carter, it appears the local authorities are coming our way."

"You're right about that!" a male voice with a posh accent said. Pietro put my arm on his shoulder and helped me up, my hand still on my bleeding wound.

The man came closer. He was of average height, with short ruffled black hair and light blue eyes. He had a stubble and wore a black suit. He looked at the three of us, stopping a second longer on Vision.

"You are a long way from home Avengers."

"We can explain but first…" I showed him my hand. "Would you help me out with this?" He looked down at my wound.

"That's bad Cryptic." I fought the smile for being recognized. "You'll have a lot of questions to answer." He made a sign for one of his man. "We're bringing them back to London. Jones, give Carter medical attention."

"Who are you?" Pietro asked him, tightening his hold on me when a guy approached us.

"Peter Wisdom, field team leader of MI:13, and as of now, the one who'll decide whether or not you'll go back to America."

MI:13?

Didn't they stop at 6?

April 2016, London

"At least we have luxury hotel rooms."

"With guards outside," Pietro felt the need to point out in front of the TV.

I had spent three days in the hospital. As I thought, nothing important was touched, only my flesh because I had unconsciously protected the rest. After three days, I was placed in a hotel with the guys, Vision, Pietro and Brian, who had his secret identity unmasked.

Pietro asked him if he was the British version of Steve, to which he had a negative answer saying the source of their powers were totally different.

"Vision, do you know anything about MI:13?"

"Not much I am afraid. It is led by a man named Alistaire Stuart and directed by the J.I.C, the Joint Intelligence Committee."

"Do you know something?" I asked Brian, who was brooding in a corner of the room. He took a deep breath.

"If what I heard is correct, they deal with paranormal stuff," he told us, standing up.

"Huh. So...aliens, superhuman stuff?"

"I guess."

"Sorry you have been dragged in this mess," I apologized. My wound had been healed but it was still sensitive.

"Well, if I'm right I wouldn't have been able to avoid them forever," he replied with a small smile. It was tensed though.

There was a knock on the door and this Peter, Pete I heard his colleagues call him, entered the room without waiting for an answer.

"Follow me."

We did. I looked through the window as the car was going through the rainy London sky. Pietro was doing the same like an excited kid. Vision was between us and Brian in front of us, trying to put as much distance as possible between him and Pete, who didn't even bother looking at us.

"Carter," he called me. I looked at him, meeting his blue eyes. "You were born in England, right?"

"Manchester yes. I've lived in London until I was five." The corner of his lips rose a little.

"Good."

When the car stopped, we were in front of a typical 19th century building you'd find in London. However, upon entering it, it was modern. We followed Pete to an office and a man, in his forties I think, stood up.

"Braddock, Carter, it is a pleasure to meet you." He looked at Pietro and Vision. "You as well Maximoff and Vision, but you are not concerned with the same thing as these two." I shared a look with Brian. "I forgot my manners. Alistaire Stuart, leader of MI:13. I hope Pete wasn't too much of a prick to you."

"I'm sorry but…" I shook his hand and frowned at how...elastic it seemed to be. It was mushy. "You're not a regular man."

"Mutate." I blinked at him and he shook Brian's hand. "Pete over there is a mutant."

"Scream it from your window, won't you?" Pete replied with a grunt. "Wanker."

"You must be confused as to why you're here, but you did infiltrate a British research facility so it is only normal we interrogate you." I pursed my lips.

"Do you even have an authorization to act in the country or did you decide you could do as you pleased because you're Avengers?" I blushed in shame.

"I apologize for...not asking local authorities for permission." Alistaire sat back down behind his desk, humming.

"So, what did you find?" I blinked. "Oh, we weren't in Darkmoor for you, we were observing that facility to gather data about Essex."

"Since when?" Brian asked him with wide eyes.

"A long while Braddock. Ever since we suspected he had something to do with the Weapon Plus Program." My heart missed a beat. "Your father had some input in that."

"I beg your pardon?"

"It exists. Here." Alistaire looked at me.

"Yes, it does. We don't know much about this man, only he is much older than he looks and is a renowned scientist in genetics."

"The X gene," I whispered to myself.

"Exactly. To sum up, we have the British branch of the Weapon Plus Program on our plate, have had it for years. We're aware of what Weapon X was and how it aimed at giving mutation to people or enhancing already existing ones. Essex...has some input with that. Unfortunately, we don't really have proof, so we were watching that place in Darkmoor. Doctor Carter worked there on an energy source, something that could potentially have its place in the Weapon Plus Program. He also worked with SHIELD and we all know how that turned out." I pursed my lips, livid.

"We crashed your mission then," Pietro told him.

"Yes, you could say it like that. The first attack was unexpected and not related to this, but it was enough for you three to reveal your presence and then, Essex sent his henchmen."

"Unfortunately, we already ran into some of them," Pete added behind us. He was leaning against the wall next to the door, his arms folded on his chest.

"Yeah, Sabretooth tried to kill me last year already."

"The female with him was Malice. We don't know much about her but she already possessed several of our agents."

"A telepath?" I asked Alistaire.

"We have many telepaths in our ranks, this one is different. She does not have a physical body," Pete explained. "Then you had the third one who was there last night. He's from Louisiana, it's all we could get because of his French."

"And he used a lot of explosion." I frowned and looked at Brian.

"How did he do that?"

"Cards. I don't know, it was like he was charging them or something." I groaned and pinched the bridge of my nose.

"Red and black eyes?"

"You met him?" Alistaire asked me.

"I had rough teenage years."

Remy LeBeau. Gambit. I had not heard of him since I left Aksel in the Pentagon. It seemed like he was still doing his own thing to live.

"He's dangerous, I can assure you. His name is Remy LeBeau."

He wasn't...I didn't remember Remy as being mean or evil, just a guy with no one trying to survive in the world. How he found himself on the opposite team was...a mystery.

"Oh, he was with you at the Pentagon." I raised a brow at Alistaire. "We've always had our eyes on you Carter, even when MI:13 was just The Department."

"Why?"

"Because every superhuman born on the British Isles is automatically a part of MI:13." I frowned at Pete's words.

"I didn't know."

"We never attempted to contact you," Alistaire explained. "We wouldn't have pulled you from learning how to control your powers but then SHIELD already had their eyes on you and unlike us, they had advantages, like you being in the country they operated in or Margaret Carter having founded the agency."

"And the Avengers happened."

"I have to admit we do not have a team of superheros on our side so we couldn't really do anything. But you came in England and caused a ruckus, so we could initiate contacts." He grinned at me. "Thank you for that."

"You're...welcome?" He looked at Brian.

"Of course, you are also concerned Captain Britain."

"So what, we're agents?"

"Reserve, at least for now. You're new, and Carter is an active member of the Avengers. I'm afraid they might not take it well if we were to tell them we wanted to steal her from them."

"It is true," Vision confirmed. "Captain Rogers in particular wouldn't like this a lot."

"She's fine in America anyway," Pietro added and I took a deep breath.

Sure sure.

"Fine or not, you came here without asking and acted without asking, you could get in a lot of troubles for that," Wisdom droned. "You can't just ignore borders."

"However, because you were born in England, what happened in Darkmoor will be stated as done for the Crown and it should not be causing any issue."

"...thanks," I said.

"But of course if we found ourselves in a tough situation you'll have to come." I nodded.

"Of course." Pete scoffed. "What?"

"The yankees decided to show up when we were done cleaning up your mess in 2013, I don't have much faith in you coming on time." I glared at him for a second but looked down.

"Sorry about that as well."

There always was destruction and damage, material or human, after one of our fights yet…

We didn't really do anything after Sokovia. Tony did. Just like for Johannesburg.

"Does it mean we can go home?"

"They can," Alistaire said, pointing at Pietro and Vision. "We need to evaluate your skills before letting you go."

"What do you mean by that?"

"There won't be any blood samples taken or anything related to your DNA." He looked at me seriously. "We have many British mutants working here, the last thing I want is for them to not trust us. If they trust the official group they're a part of, then they'll have faith in the government treating them like anyone else." I smiled bitterly.

"That sounds nice. You'll have to forgive me though, I don't have the best experience regarding the government and mutants so I don't really believe you right now."

"It's fair, you don't know us." He looked at Vis and Pietro. "I'll let you have a talk in private." I nodded and we were led to a small room.

"Is it real? Is it actually happening?" Pietro asked me with wide us. "Are you really being recruited right under our noses?"

"Actually, it appears she has always been a member."

"You're not helping," the Sokovian told Vis, who just looked at me.

"I have concerns though, regarding this situation." I looked at him. "They mentioned more than once how we shouldn't have come unannounced."

"So?"

"You think there's something bigger regarding the Avengers traveling around to save the world?"

"Yes. What happened in Sokovia raised a lot of questions, I am not sure but maybe world leaders are trying to do something about it." Pietro looked down at the mention of Sokovia. "Us coming here unannounced was probably a mistake that could convince them to take measures."

"This Alistaire said they could cover us because Addie's British."

"But other countries won't react the same way," I whispered. Tony was worried about this.

Fuck, I hope he wasn't hiding anything from the team.

"Are you going home then?" I asked them.

"I do not think it would be wise to leave you here alone," Vision replied and Pietro nodded.

"We left together we're going home together," he added. "I don't think Cap and Natasha would like seeing us coming back without you."

"We'll need to get the quinjet back as well."

"True," I said. "Okay, we're all staying but we should tell the others so they don't start thinking the worst has happened."

"I am not hearing another one of Wanda's lecture," Pietro muttered under his breath.

"Can you just...I'm not sure I want to tell everyone about MI:13 or Brian, do you think you could keep quiet about it?" They looked at me, confused. "It's just...it's not really Avengers business you know."

"I don't think keeping information from the rest of the team is a good decision Addison," Vis told me in an almost scolding tone.

"I know, but it's not an Infinity Stone being used behind others' back this time. I wouldn't tell people here about SHIELD and their business, so it's the same."

"I really don't care." Vis pursed his lips.

"I do not like that. The last time you hid something from the team, it was Sergeant Bar…" I put my hand on Vision's mouth.

"I know, but it's different this time. I'm not hiding someone. I'll tell them anyway, just not now."

Vision agreed in the end. Steve asked why we were not going home yet, I just replied we had other things to do in England. It was true.

I trained with Brian, who was powerful but new to having powers so he just crashed in the ceiling when he took off too fast once. He punched hard though.

Pete was a mutant and his hot knives were deadly. He also was a spy and could fight pretty well.

He was deadly.

Vision and Pietro were wary, but ultimately Pietro took the opportunity to train with super humans. Vision was observing more than anything.

"Come on!" I whined as my dark matter melted because of Pete.

"Get something stronger Carter." We were interrupted by Alistaire, the warmth of his knives at my throat. Dark matter was protecting me from having my skin burned and I had a katana at his throat.

"All of you, come."

We followed Alistaire to a reunion room. I widened my eyes and paled at the TV. It was May 3rd. On the TV was Lagos.

"It is a tragedy that occurred just a couple of hours ago in Lagos, Nigeria. The Avengers were fighting with the criminal Rumlow but an explosion destroyed several floors of a building. At the moment, we do not know how many victims there are, but what we can wonder is how could such a tragedy happen whereas the Aveng…" I turned off the TV with telekinesis.

"If you'll excuse us, I think it is time for us to go home," Vision told Alistaire.

"Yes, I agree."

They flew us back to Darkmoor, next to the quinjet. I exchanged numbers with Brian before leaving London as he decided to stay a little longer. I exchanged numbers with Alistaire before sitting in the quinjet to go home.

"How do you think this explosion occur?" Vision asked us. Pietro was silent.

"I don't know," I replied quietly. "But I'm sure the others will be able to enlighten us."

I had a bad feeling.
