A/N: Harry Potter is the work of J.K. Rowling. I own nothing, I simply just like to play with some of the beautiful characters she wrote.

A/N: This is one of my first fanfictions I'm ever posting. I've read many and I've wrote some, but I have never posted before.

"Harry's safe, Frank's mum has Neville. Alice and Frank, well, they're being moved to the Janus Thickey Ward today. The healers have tried everything, but they were under the curse for too long."

Ana wanted to speak. She wanted to grab Remus who she could hear right next to her. She wanted to scream at the unfairness of everything. Ana could hear everything going around her but for the life of her she could not open her eyes.

Her body just wouldn't respond to what her brain was telling it to do. A coma is what they said. Ana hadn't seen many comas in her time as a healer, but she had read cases where the patient had said they were able to hear what was going on during her training. It was uncommon but not impossible.

Ana was frustrated. She could only find out what people offered to her, the questions her mind fired off remained only heard by her. Remus had finally come to visit. By her estimation it had been 4 days. Although she couldn't be completely sure as she had fallen asleep various times.

It was odd to have her mind awake but not her body. The first time she had woken up she was wracked with painful shudders which she knew well enough by now we're aftershocks due to the Cruciatus. They had lessened as the time slowly passed, but she hadn't been able to open her eyes yet.

A few people had been by before Remus. Kingsley had mostly been silent and held her hand, Moody stopped by but all she heard from him was his wooden leg hitting the floor as he paced. Even Minerva had stopped in and sniffled over her. Ana knew that every loss of a former student hit her hard, she was a fierce woman but after many pots of tea shared together throughout the war, Ana knew that she was not nearly as stern as she appeared in their school days.

Ana felt that the visit that hit her the hardest so far was Molly Weasley and her children. Ana had felt touched that the older woman had stopped by to see her. On numerous occasions she had fixed up one of her boy's broken bones. The Weasley boys were fearless and due to such a trait, they accrued many injuries over a short span of time.

Ana had, not to long ago, a short but meaningful relationship with Fabien Prewett. Nothing more than some late night drinks and stolen moments when no one was around, but their friendship had been strong.

She had worked tirelessly after the order brought them back to headquarters. They went down but they had fought like hell, and in the end it took five Death Eaters to kill them. The loss had hurt Ana but it devastated Molly. Ana spent hours fixing both the men up so that when Molly saw them they looked almost as if they were sleeping. Ana knew now that the loss of a sibling caused an unnameable type of pain, and Molly had lost both of hers in a single night.

Molly had left her a warm and soft blanket that she said she had knitted herself as she had just picked up the hobby. Bill had left her a note that she said she could read when she woke up, Charlie left her his favorite drawing of a dragon, Percy had given her a book so she wouldn't be bored when she woke up, and Fred and George who were the most mischievous toddlers she had even met, left her a dungbomb from Zonko's.

It warmed and hurt her heart as the boys and their mother told them what they were leaving. It made her laugh through her sadness when Molly began demanding to know where the twins had gotten such an item.

All the visits meant a lot but the one she was waiting for was Remus. No one had assuaged her fear for Harry yet and finally Remus was here and talking.

She could feel his grip on her hand and she wished deeply that she could squeeze it. He sounded tired as he told her about Frank and Alice and it had saddened her deeply to hear that the healers didnt think their minds could be fixed however, she felt like she stopped breathing when he began to talk about Harry.

"I'm sorry Ana, but Harry.. well Dumbledore came by with Hagrid to get him."

Get him for what? Where did they take him? Her mind was screaming but her body stayed still, and all she could do was wait for Remus to keep speaking.

"They took him to Lily's sister's house. He said that I wasn't family so they had to place him with someone who was."

No no no no no. Ana couldn't believe what she was hearing. Sweet Harry couldn't be with those people. Lily had spoken about Petunia and her husband, and they seemed to be quite horrible muggles. Ana had met them once when they all went with Lily to her parent's funeral. She had been awful to Lily and Ana immediately disliked the tall necked woman and her purple faced husband.

Lily had told them when they went into hiding that in case anything should happen that Harry could never go live with her sister. Ana had assured her that she would take care of him and Sirius had also promised he'd be around to take care of Harry should anything ever happen.

Her brain nearly exploded at the anger she felt when thinking about Sirius Black. He had been their friend, their best friend. He had stayed at Potter Manor after his own parents blasted him off the family tree. He had his own room next to James and her dad had called him a Potter by everything but name of numerous occasions.

They had opened their homes and their lives to Sirius and he betrayed them. He betrayed them all and James, Lily, and Peter payed the ultimate price.

Poor Peter. He should've never went after Sirius. He was a decent wizard but he didn't have the skills to beat Sirius in a duel and Ana wished that he hadn't gone to confront him.

Remus squeezed her hand and she heard the chair scrape the ground as he got up.

"I'm your emergency contact in case anything changes. I'm going to leave for a while. I hope you won't hold it against me, but I can't be here right now. Everyone is gone and everything around Is just a reminder that I'm the last one standing."

Ana wanted to hold on tightly to him and scream not to leave. That she wasn't gone, she was right here. She was here and that Potter Manor would always be his home too.

Remus dropped her hand and she felt warm lips touch her forehead.

"It wasn't supposed to be this way."

If Ana could cry she knew that she would be. Remus was right, nothing should've been like this. Jamie, Lily, and Peter should've been alive, Harry should be with his parents and not Petunia bloody Dursley, Sirius shouldn't have been a traitor, and Frank, Alice, and herself should've never been captured by the Lestrange brothers and Bellatrix.

Everything had fallen apart and nothing had prepared Ana for this to happen. She had imagined worse case scenarios during the war but she never imagined that only Remus would be left to deal with the aftermath left by Voldemort and his followers.

Ana heard the door open and shut and she felt an intense anger at her own lack of control over herself. Her mind screamed and she longed to be able to do something, anything. However, just like before, her body stayed perfectly still. Ana was a prisoner in her own body and she hoped that soon this would be over and she could bring Harry and Remus home.

They were the last ones and they shouldn't have to deal with this pain alone.

A/N: I know that these chapters no very long or filled with a whole lot of dialogue between characters. I'm just setting everything up and soon we should be getting to the good stuff.
