"Only the signatories of the Sokovia Accords are allowed here," Ross greeted us, looking coldly at me.

"Give us a break, if she's here then she's not working against you," Tony defended me. Nat appeared around a corner and sighed in relief at seeing us. Ross shot me a dirty look.

"Fine, but keep an eye on her Stark."

"Of course!" he replied as Ross turned around and left, walking past Natasha who was coming toward us. "Oh oh, I don't like that face Romanoff."

"Barnes was in Bucharest." I frowned.

"Wow, you mean all we needed was him bombing the UN to find him? That's humiliating," I whispered to myself, my heart squeezing in my chest.

"The thing is Steve and Sam went there." I frowned and Tony pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Of course Rogers would do that. How did he even know where to find him?"

Huh...that was a good question.

"Anyway, Rhodey and Pietro went as well."

"Pietro was in Vienna?" She nodded.

"He signed the Accords."

"Seriously?" Tony asked her in disbelief. Natasha nodded.

"He said that it was the best thing to do right now and that he'll convince Wanda as well soon."

He understood that if they didn't sign they would be sent to jail and Pietro must have thought staying at the Compound was better than jail.

"Addison, have you met Wakandan royalty?" Nat asked me and I nodded sheepishly, Tony raising a brow at me. "King T'Chaka mentioned you. He was sad that you had chosen not to sign."

"I see." I took a deep breath. "Was the Prince there as well? T'Challa?"

"Yes. He was...heartbroken after the bombing."

"The guy just lost his dad," Tony pointed out.

"There was something else. He…" She pursed her lips at and looked at me. "He said he would kill Barnes himself." I paled.

If the Black Panther was after James…

"Apart from Steve and Sam, are there others…"

"GSG 9." I was confused. "It's the elite tactical unit of the police force of Germany." I took a deep breath.

"There's gonna be one more," I mumbled.

"The prince?" I nodded slowly. "Can he fight?"

"That's an understatement." She opened her mouth. "Look, I can't tell you anything alright? I made a promise when I went to Wakanda in 2011. With how things are going...let's say the situation is terrible." She shared a look with Tony.

"Follow me." The three of us were in a meeting room with glass walls all around us. "Addie, you know Barnes more than us. What do you think of the situation?"

"He wouldn't have done it unless someone's controlling him again. I can assure you."

He had been in Romania all along?

"Having someone behind would also be the only way he could have gone to Romania so quickly after the bombing."

"Not really, it's something like a ten-hour drive so if the guy hid in a plane he could have reached Romania pretty quickly," Tony corrected me. I sat down and fiddled with my thumbs.

"Still, what proof do we have it was him apart that shitty picture there was on the news?"

"His criminal past is enough to accuse him without further investigation. I'm not sure if he'll even have a trial," the Russian spy pointed out and I bit my bottom lip.

Ross came in the room an hour later. I had a mug of warm tea in my hands, Tony was on his phone and Nat had been staring at the wall for a worrying amount of time.

"Rogers and Wilson have been apprehended with Barnes, as well as the Prince of Wakanda parading in a black panther suit." Nat shot me a quick glance.

"So they're being taken here?" Tony asked him.

"Yes. Stark, if Rogers and Wilson don't sign those Accords or they're going to jail. Their equipment are confiscated until further notice because they're government's property."

"What's going to happen to Barnes?" I asked him. He pursed his lips.

"The Wakanda is adamant on dealing with him as he killed their King. We'll see how his psychological evaluation goes."

When we got word they arrived, Nat stood up, saying she would greet them. I had my hands tied anyway as I had not signed the Accords. I was nervously losing a game on my phone while Tony was on the phone out of the meeting room.

"No, Romania was not Accord-sanctioned," Tony said in his phone as Steve, Sam and Nat entered the room. "Colonel Rhodes is supervising cleanup with Quicksilver, if no one can keep up with Pietro, then don't take his anger about you being too slow personally."

"Try not to break anything while we fix this," Nat told the two Avengers coldly, clearly angered that they did their own thing.

"Consequences? You bet there will be consequences!" Tony gave them a harsh glare before going back to whoever he was on the phone with. "Of course you can quote me on that as I just said it. Anything else? Thank you." He hung up and stopped in front of Sam and Steve.

"'Consequences?'" Steve repeated.

"Ross wants the both of you prosecuted. I had to give him something. Try dealing with him in real life and on the phone for the same thing, it's hell."

"I'm not getting that shield back, am I?"

"Technically it's the government's property," Nat told him as her and Tony were walking away. "Wings too."

"That's cold." I put my phone back in my pocket, shivering in spite of my black leather jacket. I had a dark blue tank top underneath, blue skinny jeans and combat boots.

"How is he?"

"He seemed fine to me," Steve told me, now looking at me. "Did they make you sign anything?"

"No, but Ross told Tony to keep an eye on me." I took a step closer to them, looking around. "The Wakanda wants James' head, but I'm sure seeing Black Panther told you that already."

"You know him?" Sam asked in disbelief.

"I ran into him in 2011, it's not something I'd recommend. So the Soldier doesn't seem to have been triggered?"

"No." I pursed my lips in thoughts. "Do you have something in mind?"

"I don't know, I don't have a law degree. I think I'm gonna try to talk to T'Challa." See if I could plead James' case without getting on the future King's black list.

He was kept in a very fancy 'cell', which looked a lot more like an office than anything else. He was in the couch.

"Can I talk to him?" I asked the guard.

"Do you have the required clearance?"

"I do not," I replied honestly. "But I know him. He'll be more talkative with me than with you."

"Are you sure?" I looked behind me. The man was not much taller than me and in his forties if not fifties by the graying hair. "Agent Everett Ross, FBI. Do you think you could make him talk?"

"More than your goons, for sure." He gestured at the guard.

"You have five minutes."

"Thank you." I sat down in front of T'Challa, who looked up from his phone. He nodded at me in acknowledgment. "It has been a long time."

"Five years if I'm correct," he replied with his thick Wakandan accent. "I was personally disappointed to not see you in Vienna."

"Unfortunately, due to past events I find myself struggling very hard to trust any authority regarding mutants and now enhanced individuals period." I looked down for a second. "I am sorry for your father, he appeared as a good man and king from what I saw."

"He was, Wakanda was his priority." He tilted his head on the side. "Tell me Miss Carter, do you not think the Avengers should be put in check?"

"No, I do, but the Sokovia Accords are not the solution for that," I replied firmly. He had dropped the 'Addison' then. "How is Shuri?"

"A teenager."

"It doesn't really answer my question."

"I think it does," he said with an amused smirk. "Would you tell me why you are here and why I should show mercy to Barnes?" I pursed my lips. Of course he knew, he was smart.

"Your suit is going to attract unwanted attention on your country T'Challa. You know, nowadays technology came a long way. It can do a lot." His eyes turned cold at the implication. "I just want you to remember that before doing anything to Barnes. Be sure he is guilty and don't let your anger guide you." I stood up. "That's all." As I had my hand on the door knob, his voice stopped me.

"Feelings guide a lot of people Addison, you should know better than anyone, shouldn't you?" I frowned and left the room.

"So?" Agent Ross asked me.

"Don't piss him off." I was about to leave but stopped. "You know, technology do wonders today, so don't accuse Barnes of bombing the UN without better proof than a shitty picture. Him being brainwashed and used as HYDRA's weapon for decades is one thing, but don't use this to blame him for the UN bombing as well. It would look very bad." He frowned. "That's all I wanted to say."

I went outside to get some fresh air. Fuck, all of this was...too much. There was too much politics, too much implications, too much...it was just too much…

I leaned against the wall as I started to breath faster. Dang it, a panic attack. I took deep breaths, trying to picture my happy place. My house in Staten Island.

"Miss, are you alright?" I opened my eyes and smiled shakily.

"Yeah, yeah I'm good, just…" I looked at his hand and the syringe in his hand. I grabbed his wrist but my legs were already turning to jelly.

"I can't have you stop the Winter Soldier." I blinked at the cold face in front of me before I totally blacked out.

His phone rang. Steve pulled it out and frowned at Sharon's name. Bucky was back to himself, his arm now freed and Sam was making a call.

"Yes?"

"Tell me Barnes is with you."

"I don't know wh…"

"A guy wanted the Winter Soldier out and couldn't have Addison to stop him, that's what she told me when she woke up." Steve froze.

In the midst of the fight, he didn't realize that Addison was nowhere to be seen. The Winter Soldier would have listened to her because of the order to protect her, or at least forget the order that fake shrink gave Bucky. Yet, she had been...nowhere.

"Woke up? Is she alright?" From the corner of his eyes, he noticed Bucky looking at him.

"She was drugged, I found her passed out behind the building, hidden behind a dumpster. She barely can walk or talk."

"He knew she would reach Bucky."

"I'd ask what's going on between her and him but I'm not sure I'd like it and...Addison, stay here!"

"How is it looking on your side?"

"Bad. You're being tracked, like Sam and Barnes. You both helped him to leave. Addison didn't sign the Accords and wasn't here when he went berserk so I doubt they would just accept her excuse of having been drugged when she can localize anyone in a certain radius."

"It doesn't make sense, she would have noticed him or what he was planning." Bucky stood up and walked up to him.

"Barnes, you think he's innocent, don't you?"

"Yes I…"

"Sorry, I was talking to her. I know what you think Steve." He heard her talking and the sluggish voice with her answering.

"Can you help us?"

"Yes. I will, if you promise to deal with the culprit for me."

"I promise." Sharon took a sharp breath.

"I'll handle it, stay hidden until I tell you to move."

"Understood. Thank you."

"Don't thank me yet." He hung up.

"Is she okay?" Steve looked at his best friend, his obvious worry making him sigh.

"She was drugged by the fake shrink and Sharon found her passed out outside. She would have come if she had been able to."

"I was so scared that I…" He didn't finish his sentence.

He had been dreading the moment he'd see Addison.

"You broke her heart you know," Steve said quietly. Bucky gulped, not meeting his severe gaze. "She was heartbroken and it took her some time to just leave her room and talk to us. She thought she did something wrong." Bucky shook his head.

"She didn't do anything wrong it's…" He pursed his lips. "I had my reasons for leaving like that."

"Reasons? You think after helping you she deserved to be left like that with the feeling of being used Buck?"

Maybe it was because she was Peggy's granddaughter or maybe it was because he had been her hero as a child, maybe because when he saw her he sometimes saw himself when he was younger, but he was protective of her like a little sister. She had been young when she joined the Avengers, not even twenty-three, suddenly fighting instead of going to college.

They were all protective of her, and then of Wanda and Pietro when they joined, but he was more than others, it was true. Knowing what Bucky had done to her, even if he didn't want to hurt her, was infuriating.

"Of course she didn't Steve, I know I messed up okay," Bucky replied coldly, clearly not wanting to talk about this. "I just...she deserves better than me."

"You can't decide this for her." Bucky clenched his jaw.

"Trust me Steve, she deserves better than me. She's the last person I want to hurt."

"Yet you did."

He knew that. The worst was to know that after seventy years as HYDRA's assassin and killing people, it was as Bucky he had hurt her.

"You think I didn't regret leaving?" he spat between gritted teeth. Steve stared back in surprise at the anger clouding his eyes. "But I couldn't come back after leaving like that, I couldn't...I couldn't face her."

"Can you now?" Bucky looked away. "Because I don't think you're gonna have much of a choice Buck. She deserves to know why you left."

"I can't."

"Why not?"

"Because I'd rather having her hate me because I left than hate me because of the reasons I have."

"Does it have something to do with her parents?" Bucky paled and he widened his eyes. "I didn't tell her, okay."

"You can't tell her Steve. You can't."

"I won't."

"Hey." They looked at Sam, who still had his phone on his ear. "Something else apart from Wanda and my guy?"

"Ask Clint to get Addie's gear, she doesn't have anything right now." Sam nodded and went back to talking to Clint.

"I don't think you should inv…"

"I'm pretty sure she'll fight with us, that you want it or not. It's no longer just about whether you're innocent or not, if we don't stop that man worst troubles will come. We can't spare any soldier."

"Don't call her that." When Sam came back, his call finished, he looked between the two and the obvious tension there was.

"So...they should be here by tomorrow."

"Okay." Steve looked away from Bucky. "We're staying put until Sharon contacts us.

Berlin, June 24th, 2016

"You actually stole Steve's gear, and Sam's, and you even got James' bag because I asked you even if I don't remember it?" I asked Sharon as she was driving through Berlin.

"Yes, I did."

"Wow. I mean I know you have that rebellious streak and I saw you kick the ass of people twice your size but wow."

"I don't have a rebellious streak."

"You dyed your hair purple just to irk your parents when you were fifteen and you ran away and hid in my room."

"There's a reason to that." She had a small smile on her lips. I chuckled briefly before narrowing my eyes at her.

"You know you'll be a fugitive, right?" She licked her lips before pursing them.

"I believe this is the right thing to do, I'll deal with the consequences. You should worry more about yourself."

"Between you and I, I am the one with a criminal past Sharon."

"Don't remind me." She sighed. "I'll be fine. I've tracked people down, I know how to avoid people tracking me down." She shot me a look before going back to the road. "What about you?" I shrugged.

"Not signing the Accords meant I would go to jail for my criminal past anyway. Being in the Avengers was the only way I was still free." She frowned and turned to the left. "I'll survive. It's all I can tell you right now."

"It doesn't reassure me at all."

"I had a way out," I whispered.

"What do you mean?"

"After Grandma's memorial, Tony took me to an apartment in Notting Hill. It's great. Then he gave me a passport and basically a whole new identity, away from America and superhero stuff."

"He did?" She didn't seem surprised but just...emotional.

"He really tried to make up for our relationship these past few years. Seeing me in the Avengers...he really didn't like that but somehow it allowed us to reconcile. Now...I'm going to disappoint him again."

"I'm sure he'll understand." She took a deep breath. "I just don't get why he signed. It's not…"

"Guilt makes you do a lot of things Sharon. You do things but there are victims, I guess at some point you just want to...to have someone telling you where to go so that it's not solely on you." We entered the airport and she stopped near the parking lot.

She texted Steve.

"How much of your behavior back then was your parents' doing?" I asked her out of nowhere. She froze. "Sorry, it's just...ever since I saw you in Staten Island it's been stuck in my head." She took a deep breath. "I need to know, who knows…" I didn't finish my sentence. I didn't want to.

"I didn't want to be an adult all on my own," she replied in a hush tone. Her eyes were watery. "I didn't agree with them when they called you a freak all these times but...but if I sided with you, I was afraid they might tell me I wasn't their daughter anymore and…" She looked up at me, guilt all over her face. "I know it wasn't fair, that you needed someone more than ever yet I just left you and…" I undid my seat belt and hugged her.

"It's okay," I whispered in her ear. She hugged me back. "It's okay. You were twenty-one, you were scared and in pain too, it's okay."

"It's not Addie, it never will be and now…" I pulled back and cupped her face in my hands, smiling at her.

"You regret it, it's enough for me." I took a deep breath, thinking about how James killed my parents. "Trust me, I discovered I had an incredible ability to forgive a lot of things." Forgive but not forget. "I...I missed you Sharon."

"I missed you too." We hugged again and I saw an old car in her rear-view mirror.

"There's only one person who would pick such a car on the run," I mumbled under my breath.

"You're going with them then?" I shrugged. "I mean...if you want to stay, I wouldn't say…"

"No, I'm a bigger threat than you, if we stayed together I'd put you in danger and anyway…" I sighed. "There's something bigger brewing and I can't really ignore it." She smiled painfully.

"You've really grown up." The car behind us stopped. "Time to work." She left the car and I watched them interacting.

Of course, I widened my eyes in horror and disgust when they kissed.

"My eyes!" I almost yelled and they both turned to me. Steve gave me a pointed look and walked around the car to knock on the my window. I rolled it down. "Yes?"

"You're planning on leaving the car or live in it?" I smiled sheepishly. "You have a mark?" I moved my hair aside and showed him the small hole in my neck.

"I don't know what it was. I still have my powers, that's...nice." He nodded and opened the door. He shut it once I was out.

I stretched out, my neck cracking.

"What are we up against?"

"Other Winter Soldiers in a bunker in Siberia."

"Great," I replied sarcastically. "I don't think I'll have the same influence on them than I can have on him." I pointed at James without looking at him. Steve looked at him briefly.

"Can't look at him?"

"Gimme a minute would you? The last few days were intense."

"Everything's inside your car," Sharon told Steve.

"Thank you for everything." She nodded and looked at me.

"Be careful."

"You too," I replied softly she went back to her car.

I watched it leave the airport until it was only a small dot in the distance. Steve put a hand on my shoulder.

"You're gonna be okay?" I smiled stiffly.

"Worried. We kind of just made up yet…" I took in a sharp breath. "It's okay Steve, let's go. I want a real debrief."

"I asked for backup," he said as we went to the car. "I, well Sam, called Clint so that he could get Wanda and your gear."

"You pulled Clint out of retirement?" I asked him in disbelief, opening the car door.

"I don't have that many contacts you know." I sat in the car, right next to James. His hair was longer, like when he was the Winter Soldier.

"Pietro signed the Accords, bringing in Wanda...Sam, my legs, can you move your seat up please?" He smirked in the rear-view mirror.

"Sure Addie." He moved his seat up.

"It's better." I didn't miss the glare James sent his way, or the superior look on Sam's face.

"I'm hoping Wanda can bring Pietro to our side. I understand he probably was scared of what might happen to her but...anyway, Sam had a guy as well."

"The one who can shrink?"

"Tic Tac yeah."

"They should be here soon," Steve summed up, turning the engine on.

"So we go to Siberia to kill some super soldiers? Aren't they gonna kill us first?"

"Depends if we get there before the doctor or not."

"Fake shrink?"

"Fake shrink," Sam and Steve confirmed.

"I have my fist to put in his stupid face," I muttered under my breath.

James was looking through the window, fidgeting in his seat, clearly trying to avoid any contact with me. Not gonna lie, it hurt, but it wasn't the time for that. Even if I had clammy hands and my heart was pounding painfully in my chest because he was right next to me and blatantly ignoring me.

"So that shrink wants HYDRA's super soldiers. Why?"

"He said he wanted to see an empire fall," Steve replied. "There's a chopper in the airport. Once Clint, Wanda and Sam's guy are here, we go for it." I caught Sam's eyes in the mirror.

"Steve and Barnes have to go, we might need to stay behind to make sure of that."

"So we go in Siberia and what, beat the doctor?"

"If he hasn't awaken the soldiers first." He shot me a look. "You're okay to fight?"

"Yeah, it was like waking up from anesthesia. I may be at eighty percent of my skills right now. By the time the others show up I should be good to go." He nodded and stopped the car on an empty parking lot.

I left the car to have some time alone. I leaned against the wall and breathed out deeply.

I wasn't ready to see him but I had not really...I mean I was sitting next to him but there wasn't the closeness there used to be. How could it be here after all?

"Hello there. Deep in thoughts because of staring-issue?" I looked at Sam.

"Staring-issue?"

"Barnes. He's been staring at you since you left the car." I looked quickly above Sam's shoulders, enough to see James lowering his eyes to the roof of the car. "It was awkward in the car, really awkward."

"Sam, don't…"

"I'm just saying it was awkward. You should have seen him when I mentioned Pietro and his crush on you, he looked like a kicked puppy or something."

"Only you," I started with a small smile, "would compare a highly feared assassin to a kicked puppy." He laughed.

"Hey, I have a reputation to maintain as the best Wilson. Talking about that, do you still have your phone?"

"Sharon took it. I wrote the numbers I wanted to keep in case."

"Good idea, we can't be tracked down." I nodded and pursed my lips.

"I agree. Those two need to reach Siberia. I mean, I doubt we'll be able to leave the airport without running into some troubles. James and Steve...they need to leave."

"We agree on that." He leaned against the wall next to me and elbowed me in the ribs. "Steve's too focus and Barnes too ashamed to ask, but how did he get you?"

"I don't want to talk about it, it's embarrassing." He smiled.

"Come on. It's been a rough couple of days, I'd get it if it impacted you and your senses!" I shook my head slowly and bit my bottom lip.

"I was having a panic attack." He nodded.

"Thought so." I rolled my eyes. "Hey, I took pride in helping veterans with their PTSD, what kind of person would I be if I couldn't see it when something was wrong with one of my friends?"

"Probably a poor friend, but we often turn a blind eye on what's close to us."

"True," he admitted. He folded his arms. "So, if I stay here with you and we pretend to be in some very important conversation, it will piss him off, right?" I smiled, amused.

"Is that rivalry between you two?"

"I have no reason to think of him as a rival."

"Well he's the OG Captain America's best friend so…" He shook his head, smiling in denial.

"I have nothing to fear Addison, that's final. I mean he broke one of my wings in Washington but...it won't happen again."

"Of course it won't," I said with a fake determinate pout.

"Mark my word, I won't happen again." We went back to the car and I opened the trunk. I touched Steve's shield before making a knife out of dark matter. I grazed it lightly on the shield, making a scratch.

"Hey, mind the shield!" Cap immediately said, grabbing it to inspect it. The knife floating in front of me disappeared in something akin of black sand.

"I'm good."
