October 25th, 2016, Alphabet City, New York

I used the shield to deflect the bullets the NYPD shot. There was a fight that broke out just outside Mutant Town. I went there to calm things down but ended up being a target. I slammed my foot on the ground, pushing Mutant Town inhabitants and police forces alike away from each other. Then, I stretched out my hands, lifting up all of their guns. I unloaded all of them and dropped them all on the ground before turning around. One look and they all went back to Mutant Town, me behind.

I swear it was getting worst and worst.

Pietro told Tony about the situation. He said that he couldn't do anything unless the UN authorized him, so if he could give them proof. Basically, it meant we had to give them proof and then the Avengers, the remaining ones, would be good to go. On one hand, it's annoying because it takes time. On the other hand, it keeps the Avengers from being accused of stuff like knowing better and attacking a place financed by the US and Canadian military.

I went back to my place and stopped at the door because of the man in the couch. He stood up as I closed the door.

"Hey Logan."

"Kid," he greeted me roughly. Natasha was in the corner of the room, seemingly wary of Logan. "So, you've caught a big fish."

"Yep," I replied, stressing the 'p' sound. "Too big for me alone. Do...the Accords?"

"Stark and the Professor managed to negotiate for minor mutants to be taken care of by us first," he replied gruffly. "The others fall under the Accords, and we're dealing with military. I've dealt with them before, the only way to get proofs is from the inside."

"Hey, where's Mystique when you need her?" He glared.

"Don't mention her or Magneto, the last thing we need is them and what they'd do after."

"True." I gestured at him. "You're in then?"

"Of course. The whole team is. We can't let something worst than Alkali Lake exist."

"Agree."

"What did Tony say?" Natasha asked me.

"They can't do anything until they have proof to shove in the UN's faces." She pursed her lips.

"Then we need to go to Canada."

"Yeah. Thing is, people here are more and more agitated. I heard Gambit the other day, again. I'm afraid they're trying to create chaos. More than there already is I mean."

"Maybe they're getting ready for something," Nat suggested.

"Yeah, I think the same. Logan, who do we have on your side?"

"Piotr, Bobby, Kitty, Rogue, Hank, Kurt, Scott, Jean, Storm. Professor Xavier said he'd be more useful if he stayed at the mansion." I nodded.

"As of today, the Avengers are Tony, Rhodey, Pietro and Vision for sure." I couldn't say for Spider-Man. "Then you have Natasha and myself." I looked at the Russian spy. "We can count on you right?"

"Yes, I'm not leaving until this place is erased from the map." There was an underlying anger in her voice.

"Good. Oh right, forgot, Deadpool as well. The thing is, in Darkmoor they were more than one. There's at least Sabertooth, Gambit, this Malice who can possesses people, Sinister and I'm sure others just as troublesome. Right, Ajax and Angel Dust as well."

"It won't be easy, no matter how you look at it."

"Agree," Nat said.

Logan jumped on his feet, the usual scowl on his face deepening. He went to the window and looked outside.

"Logan?" I called him.

"Kid, scan the area, as far as you can," he told me without looking at me.

"O...kay?" I closed my eyes and did.

There was nothing abnormal.

I opened my eyes out of sudden. Near one of the tunnels' entrances there was…

"Sabretooth."

"Yeah, that's what I thought."

"He's near the tunnels, it's where the Murlocks…" He took his phone.

While he exchanged frustrated words with Ororo, Natasha shot me a serious look.

"Isn't it where Pietro spends a lot of his time?" I widened my eyes and tried to call him. It went to his voicemail.

"Shit!" I ran out of my apartment, taking the shield with me.

I had a bad, bad feeling.

"Addison wait!" Nat grabbed my wrist and turned me around. "What's your plan!?"

"Stop whatever is happening!"

"And how exactly are you planning to do that? You don't know anything about what's happening, or who's there, how many enemies!"

"I won't know if I don't get closer! Stay behind if you want!" I got rid of her grasp and ran away. I heard her curse in Russian before catching up with me. "Yeah, love you too!"

"If we get out of this alive I'll make you pay!" I laughed.

"Sure thing!"

We arrived near the entrance. Sharing a look, she took the gun she had on her and I readied the shield. It was dark in the tunnels, humid and smelly. I wrinkled my nose while Natasha was unfazed.

"Addison," she whispered harshly. "Look down." I did.

I gulped at the body in front of us. I ran to it and knelt, trying to find a pulse.

There was none. I looked up at Natasha, who scanned the area. My whole body was shaking.

"I think we're in a giant mouse trap Addie," she whispered in horror, although she didn't show it. I stood up after closing the body's eyes.

I extended my reading field and put my hands on my ears. They were screaming in fear, panicking and among these panicked voices, there were those happy to slaughter everyone.

"It's a massacre," I told Nat with tears prickling in my eyes. "It's a mutant massacre done by other mutants." She gritted her teeth.

"Get a hold of yourself, you'll have time to cry later. We need to stop this first." I nodded weakly. "How big are these tunnels?"

"Manhattan."

"Great," she grunted.

We encountered many bodies on our way. I stopped in my steps when I recognized the long-haired man in front of us, knelt over a body. He inhaled deeply and loudly and stood up before turning around to face us.

"Addison, you know him?"

"I keep getting his claws in my body somehow. I didn't tell anyone, but I spent a few days at the hospital in England."

"It would have been nice to tell us."

"I didn't want to hear Steve." Victor couldn't make a move that Logan came from behind and jumped on him. "Okay, let's go. Logan, I'm counting on you!" We ran away.

The tunnels were all over Manhattan, well underneath Manhattan. We couldn't cover much ground.

"We need to split."

"Have you ever fought mutants with healing abilities? I swear, Steve might be pretty regular next to them.

"I'll handle it." She ran off. I pursed my lips and left in the opposite direction.

There were just bodies and bodies littering the ground. Right when I'd pick up a new voice, one I was hearing would disappear from my head.

I slowed down when I heard a child crying. I carefully approached the place and froze. There was a little girl crying, hugging herself sitting against the wall. Blood had splattered above her.

Remy was laying in a pool of his own blood in front of her. I hurried to his side and turned him on his back. I could taste bile in the back of my throat at the deep wound on his chest. I tried to find a pulse.

"I...didn't know…" I frowned. He gulped with difficulty and I feared for an instant he'd choke on his blood. "I...I swear I di...didn't know…" I pursed my lips, trying to locate Healer, a morlock who could heal other mutants.

"It's gonna be okay. It's…" I had nothing to stop the bleeding. I had to...I touched my shirt and used dark matter to cover the wound, lifting him up once I located Healer. "It will have to do, sorry Remy. Kid, follow me." She was shaking. "If you follow me you have a chance to survive so move!" She squeaked at the tone of my voice and stood up.

I didn't like kids.

We found Healer. However, him and the few people with him were running in our direction. I put Gambit down, jumped and threw the shield on the giant man behind them. He stopped it with his bare hands. The grin that started to appear disappear when I blocked him with telekinesis and pushed against the shield.

Yet, blood was nowhere to be seen.

He threw the shield back at me and I stopped it, but barely. The guy was strong.

"Run," I told the people behind. They obeyed, taking Remy with them.

I cracked my neck and spread dark matter between us, turning the ground into my version of quicksand. He started to sink. From what I had seen and read in his mind, his whole fighting skills were based around pure strength. At least Steve and James had learned tactics and stuff, but not him. He was...just self-taught.

"Marauder?" I asked him.

"I'm Blockbuster!" he replied in a growl. "A good mutant is a dead mutant!" I smiled.

"Good, then you're about to be a wonderful mutant." He blinked.

I touched the shield and sent dark matter in his nostrils, a replica a vibranium quickly running through his entire body. He made a gurgling sound. His body was a lot more solid than a regular human being.

Unfortunately for him, I was beyond furious and disgusted by what they had done. My time with Aksel had taught me things about human anatomy in order for me to know how to use my telekinesis in an efficient way.

I found his heart quickly and pierced it. His eyes turned glassy and he fell dead. My surroundings went back to normal and I looked down with a frown.

Blood ran down my chin because of the purple blade in my stomach. It was removed and I turned around, a hand on my wound. I furrowed my brows at Betsy Braddock, eyes empty and a weird choker around her neck.

A...light came out of her and she fell. I widened my eyes at the female form.

"Ah, much better," she said before grinning. "We meet again." I pointed a finger at her as I fell.

"Ma...lice…"

They took me away, I could feel us moving yet I was not unconscious. I couldn't fight because...no matter how embarrassing it was to admit, one of them drugged me before I could get up.

Alright.

Think Addison.

Worst case scenario was brainwashing you with one of the method they had and use you as their weapon. I had to counter that.

"Professor," I thought. I cleared my head, trying to find the link I had with Professor Xavier.

"ADDISON?" Aouch, too loud. "Sorry. Where are you?"

"Taken, but it's good. I can infiltrate the place."

"It's dangerous."

"I know. Listen, you're the best telepath I know, can you do the same thing Mom did with James? Put an order in my head that's more important."

"Addison, you're not in front of me and it's dangerous."

"Please, if it comes to the worst like I saw it happen to James, I need to be sure I can be stopped."

"Alright, I'll do what I can."

January 14th, 2017, Bedford, State of New York

A lot had happened since the Accords. As Tony drove into the small town of Bedford, the fresh snow having just been removed from the road, he could see the interest Addison had had in this town. It was small and homey, pretty good to hide the Winter Soldier.

After coming back from Siberia, betrayed and hurt, physically as much as emotionally, thanks to the Wakandan King who brought him back to Germany with Zemo, he had kept a close eye on how mutants and enhanced people were behaving. It was chaos and it didn't take long for ghettos to be created.

It didn't take long for a vigilante named Dark Omen to appear in Mutant Town.

He was fully aware Pietro went there a lot, and that when he started to be even more absent from the Compound it was because someone settled down in Mutant Town. He wasn't surprised Pietro helped her get inside the Compound or even steal Cap's shield in her place. He was surprised she gave him back the tech he made her. He had no use for it, it was made specifically for her and her powers, so it was just collecting dust in his workshop. Looking at it would just twist his stomach in painful knots.

She was not defenseless and Dark Omen had a reputation for not using kind methods, and she had the shield, but knowing she had tech he made to fight always made him feel better.

He parked in the driveway, behind another car.

He didn't know why her and Steve went their separate ways, but he was not surprised she had decided to come back. She probably felt at fault for how her actions during the Avenger Civil War had been portrayed by some media. Hell, he felt responsible for the discrimination that came back in the blink of an eye.

Well, it wasn't that it came back, more like people stopped hiding it for the sake of appearance.

Then, the Mutant Massacre. Rhodey, who after some long hours of therapy could walk on his own again, had arrived too late and only for cleanup. It had been a bloodbath. The news described it was a gang fight and it was the end of it. The mutant community living there, the Morlocks, were composed of two hundreds and twenty-five people. A good third of these people were missing, no body having been found. The X-Men had arrived in the middle of the slaughter and helped, but some of them like Nightcrawler had been wounded.

More importantly, the redhead who let him see her was limping badly as well. Pietro was shaken, slightly wounded but had succeeded in evacuating some of the mutants. He was angry though.

Addison was missing.

She had been taken to a mutant concentration camp in Canada, the true motive of the slaughter. He couldn't do anything, hell he wouldn't be surprised if Ross had something to do with Weapon X by this point, but he couldn't do anything.

However, others could. After the fight in Germany, Tony went to Addison's house. Before moving to the Compound, she had cut the power and put sheets over the furniture, but the computer in the basement was still there. He recognized a secured server JARVIS used to run that he gave her.

Information had been sent on it. About Neverland. About the security systems, how many people were kept captive, the ones in charge, anything useful for him to make a file good enough to give the UN and have the authorization to intervene. Although, the term 'concentration camp' would be good on its own, especially with the proofs and horrible pictures he had.

He entered the house, the rest of the 'team' already there. Oh the Avengers as the public knew them were gone and who knew if they'd be back one day. But when he caught up with Natasha, who told him that in spite of everything that had happened she wouldn't give up the people she couldn't save in the tunnels, he knew the concept of the Avengers itself still had hope.

Rogers and Wilson were still doing their thing, apparently in Easter Europe at the moment.

When Fury created the Avengers, he didn't think about involving mutants in it simply because many of them didn't care about 'human' issues, although they technically were humans. However, it was a mistake. Having Addison on the team had been good PR, no matter how cold-hearted it sounded. A mutant helping regular people? Did it mean they were not all evil?

Of course, when she publicly joined Steve's side, it canceled everything. As a consultant, he should have pushed for mutants to be on the team. He was Addison's godfather, knew about the Institute, he could have done something earlier but...life happened. New York, then HYDRA…

Now though? Oh, Neverland would change a lot of things. Once dealt with, Ross and the American government would need to give answers. The Accords would need to strongly be revised knowing how they treated the individuals they feared in the Accords. Well, they pretty much put them in the category 'weapon' without saying it, but now? They wouldn't be able to do anything but revise the Accords, if not entirely change them to treat them like human beings.

And the Avengers would come back. They would be reborn from their ashes, different but with the same purpose. The Avengers never cared about mutant business.

They should have.

When Addison started her investigation on Weapon Plus, they should have considered it a priority and not let her do it on her own. Maybe Neverland wouldn't have grown to the facility it was today.

"You're late," Storm greeted him. He grinned and shut the door behind him.

"It's called making an entrance." Natasha was sitting on the couch, next to Logan and Kitty Pryde. Pietro was leaning against the wall, his foot tapping against the floor showing he wanted to move. Vision kept an eye on him.

Rhodey was in the kitchen next to Storm and Piotr. Bobby and Rogue were sitting in the staircase, shooting Wade wary looks. Doctor Grey came out of the basement.

"Hello Mister Stark."

"Doctor Grey," he replied with a nod.

Charles Xavier appeared after her, helped in the stairs by Doctor McCoy. Scott Summers then appeared, followed by Kurt.

Against the door leading to the backyard was Remy LeBeau, sitting quietly.

"Anything new?"

"Plans, blue prints" Scott told him firmly. "I never thought I'd be happy to have Mystique on our side."

"Her methods may be different, but she is fighting the same fight," Professor Xavier told him. "It's a chance she infiltrated the facility before any of us knew about it."

"Can we just go there and kill some people already?" Wade asked them, the anger hidden in the childish whine.

"How is it going on your side Stark?" Logan asked him.

"I have a meeting scheduled with the UN panel, the Secretary of State Ross will be there but with the information we have, it will be hard for him to point out the method used as human experimentation is very much illegal. It's the day after tomorrow. Good thing it's in New York. Rhodey and I will do the talking and exposing, as well exposing previous actions the military did in the past against mutants."

"We'd just need a few of you with us. We're going to present them a new team that will go in Neverland and deal with the issues, but having some of you with us could be a crucial element to plead our case," Rhodes added.

"I'll come," Hank told them. "Public speaking about mutant-human equality is nothing new."

"I think," Professor X said, "Rogue and Wade should be there as well."

"Wait a minute Mister Clean, me?" Deadpool repeated.

"You're the living-proof of what Weapon X did, and Rogue, due to her mutation, a proof that power can be controlled and used for good."

"I'm in," Rogue stated. "If you think I'm the person for the job, I'll do it."

"Basically, the Avengers team the UN will see will be myself, Rhodey, Maximoff, Vision and now McCoy, Rogue and Wilson. Right when we're done and we have the green light, we'll contact you."

"But you will already be here," Rhodey said.

"This is where Miss Romanoff makes her appearance," Piotr said.

"Yes. Leech was taken and he cancels mutant powers or any paranormal powers in a 10-yard radius," Pietro explained.

"Whoever is in Neverland found a way to expand his powers to the whole facility," Tony added. "Who's better than the Black Widow to take care of people who can't use their powers?"

"I get inside, stay close to Leech and deactivate the field around the facility," she said firmly.

"The priority is evacuating the place," Cyclop said. "However, the moment they know we're here...they'll try to erase the proofs. The place is big, we'll need to split if we want to save as many people as we can. Of course, we will encounter resistance."

"It is essential that until Miss Romanoff deactivates the force field you do not get noticed. Kurt, Kitty and Jean will each be in different groups. Storm, you need to stay outside. Once you have an opening, you must destroy the tower diffusing the force field to avoid it to come back."

"Mystique said Carter was brainwashed," Logan reminded all of them. "There are a lot of pain in the ass against us and she's one of them now."

"Well, hopefully the code I put in her mind to recognize who her real allies are will work," Xavier replied.

"It sounds like a plan," Kitty commented.

January 16th, 2017, UN HQ, New York

"Mister Stark, you've asked for an emergency meeting," the Asian representative told him.

"Ah yes. Thank you for coming on such short notice." He clasped his hands together in front of him, the blue suit he was wearing uncomfortable. He wished he could trade it with his Iron Man suit, but some things had be dealt with words. "Secretary Ross, you don't seem very happy to be here."

"Unless you have something on the Rogues then no," Ross confirmed.

"I'm glad you're mentioning them," Tony replied, although internally cringing. The betrayal was months old, but it still stung. The scar was fragile. "Remember those Sokovia Accords? Made a big mess in the Avengers?"

"Hard to forget," the EU representative replied with a scowl.

"Well, let's talk about it again today. I mean, you're aware of what the Accords caused in the mutant population and enhanced population, right? Not that you seem to care about it knowing you didn't do anything to calm them down."

"The Accords were modified already Stark, what do you want more?" Ross asked him with a snarl.

"How about treating them like human beings and not weapons, huh?"

"Explain yourself," the African representative ordered him.

"Right away. You're familiar with Steve Rogers, right? Kind of broke the law and disappeared of the radar. Well, he's got the super soldier serum in his veins, needless to say it was a great improvement in the forties, so when he went in the ice, and with Erskine dead, it was impossible to recreate it. Of course, it didn't keep the America government to try. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the horrific world of the Weapon Plus Program where Steve Rogers became Weapon I." He saw Ross suddenly looking uncomfortable. "Basically, it was to recreated super-soldiers. I am going to spare you the various, horrifying experimentation there has been for decades and stop on a particular one. Weapon X."

Ross paled.

"Now, mutants started to be more and more prominent as possible threats after WW2. We all remember Trasks's Sentinels and Magneto trying to kill the president in the seventies. But if they can be threats, it means they can be weapons too, right? Weapon X went independent and was a program aimed at developing mutation or enhance already existing mutation. Doesn't it kind of remind you of Strucker? It's crazy something like this could have happened in the US and oh wait. Silly me. I should use the present tense because after all...it's been reopened since 2010."

"Stark, don't say such things without…" Ross started, getting up.

"Ross, why don't you let him speak? Surely if he has no proof to back him up we will sanction him," the European representative replied with a sharp look to her colleague.

Ross sat back down.

"Enhanced individuals number rose a lot these past few years and will keep rising. The Accords? Well, it did a great job at categorizing them as dangerous and weapons."

"I remember you signing them."

"Yes, because the Avengers needed more control and I still stand by that, given that control is given with people lacking hidden agendas. After Sokovia, discrimination started to go up again, but nothing drastic. After the Accords? Oh, it turned into a mess. Are you aware that a part of Alphabet city is called 'Mutant Town' now? And let me tell you, the US do not seem interested in trying to reinstate them in the city, but keep them there. Now, we all agree that human experimentation is illegal, no matter who does them, right?"

"Of course." Tony smirked.

"Well you're about to have your minds blown. Now, Weapon X? Bad guys, they torture people to enhance them and then sell them to the highest bidder. They used to have workshops all around NYC, but then it was 'cleansed'. It doesn't mean they stop, far from it. They upgraded it. Doing these kind of things so close to the Avengers was not a good idea, so they moved. Of course we kind of broke up after but they got themselves a sweet, sweet place. Where you ask? Apparently, it's mutants' worst enemy." He almost laughed as he saw all of them waiting for the end. "Canada."

"This is just bunch of…"

"Neverland is a mutant concentration camp situated in Alberta. At first it was only mutants, but since the Accords any enhanced individual is sent them if they're caught. Mutant Town? Well, it's a great place to have new subjects. You lure them by saying you can help them make a change and create a fairer world and bam! You've got a new lab rat."

"Did you say concentration camp?" the African representative repeated, stunned.

"You heard me right yes. How would could you call a facility keeping people prisoner and using them as lab rat or turning them into 'agents'? A place where, if you are deemed useless you're killed off like a bug? I have to admit it doesn't really glorify America. It also wouldn't be the first time the military is trying weird things to replicate an old success." Ross glared at him.

"The Accords were meant to make the world a safer place."

"I'm sure it did, but only for a part of its population. The other? We all left them to fend for themselves." Tony put his hands in his pockets and sniffed casually. "Of course, why would you believe me? Well, if you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe them."

The rest of his team entered. Wade had a ski mask, which was a weird combination with his clothes.

"Doctor McCoy." Hank nodded.

"I'm sure you're aware Doctor McCoy is a renowned scientist and a well respected spokesperson for the mutant cause. He doesn't really need any introduction. This young woman here is a mutant, with a very annoying mutation, but she learned to control it, to not be a danger to others or herself. Yes, shocker, apparently with time, patience and training enhanced individuals can learn. Unbelievable, right? This fellow right here?" Tony put a hand on Wade's shoulder. "Remember the workshops? He survived them."

"How bad can they be then?" Ross asked.

"Oh, would you like to know?" Wade replied, lifting his ski mask up to his nose, showing the burned flesh. "If you want a striptease that will literally haunt your dream, you just have to ask. It's like that everywhere." He replaced his mask.

"Proof," the European representative asked them.

"You have everything in here," Hank said, giving her the file. "I would like to add that the Institute for Gifted Youngsters unfortunately already had a run in with Weapon X and the military. In 2003, they raided the mansion and kidnapped many children. William Stryker led them."

"Stryker was a mad man," Ross stated.

"Yet he did what he did and was allowed to do it. Are you throwing an old colleague of yours under the bus Secretary Ross?" Tony shot back.

"As a military man myself, I can not ignore what we did to an entire part of the population," Rhodes said.

"Enhanced individuals are dangerous though," the Asia representative said.

"Of course they are," Rhodes agreed. "But they wouldn't be with no reasons to be. There are delinquents in every community. People in America are allowed to carry firearms and are more likely to use them to kill people than an enhanced individual is to use their powers, yet they are still regarded as human beings."

"We want to be regarded as people," Hank said firmly. "Nothing more, nothing less. I understand men fear what they do not understand, but marginalizing a population will never be the answer. It will only spark conflicts. We are not your enemies. Some mutants will be, like any people will have disagreement and use sometime extreme methods to make their point."

"How did you get so much information? You didn't act without coming to us first, right?" the Oceanian asked them.

"Us? No. Addison Carter, who's already a fugitive for not respecting the Accords? Yes."

"Carter?" Ross said with a scoff. "As if we could trust her."

"Secretary Ross, I understand you have your doubts about Addison, but be careful of what you're saying. She is one of us," Hank said, Rogue's eyes piercing the man. Pietro had elbowed Wade to keep him still. "Most of all, she was a thirteen year-old drugged and taken from her own bed and taken to Alkali Lake for Stryker's plan. I think if it had happened to you, you would be more than wary of how your government 'care' for you."

"I agree for the Avengers to attack Neverland."

"Are you sure?" The Asian representative asked the European one.

"Weapon Plus exists and the UK has been actively trying to take it down. Neverland may be the key to that. Also, Miss Carter may have been an Avenger but she is also an MI:13 agent and more than a few influential people, including Captain Britain himself, vouched for her good will and motivation."

Right.

Brian Braddock was Captain Britain, and when did the UK got their own version of Rogers? Betsy, the one who apparently stabbed Addison in the tunnels, was his sister and called him, explaining everything to him.

"Carter is an American citizen, she can't…"

"Actually, Addison was born in Manchester and emigrated in New York at age five after her parents were killed. She very much is a British citizen with a British passport as she is American," Tony pointed out.

"How did she infiltrate the place?"

"Well, she was captured. I...don't really want to know what she has been through these past three months."

They had the Winter Soldier Program. He was sure they used it on her just for the irony of it all.

"If you want further proof of her being on our side in spite of having broken the law, then ask the King of Wakanda. She went there a few years ago, he should tell you."

"I will," the African representative told Hank.

"Get these X-Men to help as well."

The attack was approved.

"Do we have a name?" Pietro asked as they boarded the quinjet.

"How about the Avengers Unity Squad?" Vision suggested. "We are united for the first time to defeat a common enemy."

"Let's go with that and make shirts," Wade suggested.

The flight would be short.

Time for these new Avengers to get to work.
