It's almost been a month since Suzaku was thrown into the dungeon, underneath the castle. Treason they said.

Treason?! He thought bitterly.

There were others who have also been branded a traitor. They were long executed on the spot. But not him. The council and military were saving him for last. He didn't understand why. The Britannian military was known for being ruthless about traitors among their ranks.

As a curtesy to princess Euphy, he was given a bit more time by Schneizel. The first few weeks she stayed by his side in his cell. Bring him food, fresh water and clothes whenever he needed them. The more kindness she showed him the more it made his heart hurt.

He was being selfish for letting her do all these things for him. He didn't deserve it. He used her for selfishness. Using her heart as comfort while his true love laid comatose in his bed.

He knew deep in his heart that Lelouch, if he ever woke up, would never forgive him. Forgive him for his betrayal, for laying with his sister in Suzaku's own bed.

Finally he sent her away. He couldn't stand it anymore. It became too much for him to bear. He was going to die soon. It was time for Euphemia to let him go. There was no use for her to linger around for a forsaken man.

He hope that someday that she will forgive him too. And that she found somebody that will make her the happiest woman alive. That will treasure her heart and kindness.

He leaned his head against the wall and stared at the ceiling. "I didn't do it." He whispered and reached up. "I would never do what I've been accused of. Please know that my love."

Inside Schneizel Office

Schneizel sat behind his desk, with his head down in the paperwork. Everything had gone according to plan. The former Knight Kururugi was locked away for his crime against the crown. Along with other coconspirators who have been delt with.

He also would have been dead if it wasn't for his foolish sisters metaling. Schneizel trying to be as sympathetic possible, gave her Eleven lover extended time. But he warned her that not even she could stop the inevitable. Suzaku Kururugi was going to die. And no one was going to change his mind.

"How long do you intend to stay out there Euphemia? I grow weary of you and your childishness." He stated and put down the pen.

The door slowly opened and she came inside. Her eyes were swollen from crying. She sat down in one of the leather chairs. "Long enough until you stop the execution." She said and rubbed her eyes.

He sighed and leaned his head onto his hand. "Why must you keep dragging this out further?"

"You can't kill a innocent man."

"You read all the reports. The statements from the deceased and you still want to sit there and defend that Eleven." He said and slammed his hand down.

She flinched at his coldness.

"Need I remind you, while you were too busy playing with him. Our brother lays in his bed unresponsive. Or have you forgotten about that?"

She shook her head. "No I haven't forgotten."

"I want you to remember that. Now." He said and straighten his coat. "Fill your time with something else. Like getting yourself ready for the upcoming coronation." He said as he made his way toward her and extended his hand out to her.

She slowly took his hand. He helped her up to her feet and gently kissed the top of her head.

"I really want you there by my side. Along with Nana." He said and wiped the tears from her eyes. "And.. I will try to keep your request in mind." He said.

Her face lit up. "Do you mean that?!" She gasped and held onto his hand.

He nodded and gave a small smile.

She curtsied a bit and kisses his hand. "Thank you so much." She said and went on her way.

With that said, he gave her a bit of false hope. Hopefully it would be enough to distract her. He pushed back his hair and breathed.

"Almost time." He said and returned to work.

Lelouch's Room

C.C carefully washed Lelouch's face and sighted a little. Today he wasn't as active like the last few days. She made sure to keep his progress a secret. She didn't want anyone to start interfering.

"Come on my love." She murmured and held his hand. "Give my hand a squeeze if you can hear me."

At first there was nothing, but she slowly started to feel his fingers twitch a bit in her hand.

"Yes that's it." She praised him and smiled.

"C...C...?" He murmured groggily.

"I'm here darling." She said and held onto his hand.

"I...I.. feel n..not my..self." He mumbled slowly.

"I know you don't." She said and looked at him.

He slowly started to squint his eyes and close them again. "Too bright." He mumbled.

She got up from his side and went to fix the curtains. Soon she heard a gentle knock on the door.

She quickly went to his side and put his hand under the blanket. "Please pretend to be asleep." She whispered in his ear and kissed his cheek gently.

Once he was back into position, she sat back down and grabbed the book by the counter and leaned into her chair.

"Who is it?" She asked as she opened the book halfway.

"It's Schneizel." He said through the door. "May I come in?"

"Yes my lord." She said as she watched the door open.

Schneizel came in with a pizza in hand and closed the door behind him. She eyed the box in his hand curiously.

"I bear a peace offering." He said and gently set the pizza on the counter. " We got off on the wrong foot and I wanted to make it up to you."

"I see." She said and placed the book down onto her lap.

He chuckles softly and opened the box. "I see that you don't trust me." He smiled and lifted a piece to his lips and took a bite.

"It's not that my lord." She murmured and took a piece to be nice.

Schneizel finished his pizza and took out a handkerchief from his pocket and cleaned his hand. "There's more I wish to discuss with you."

"Which would be?" She said and took a bite.

He made his way over to her and got down on one knee. "As you may already know. Soon I'll be crowned the new Emperor of Britannia."

She nodded. "So I've been told. Congratulations."

He smiled and gently took her other hand. "And I am also a very eligible bachelor as well. Never married, but I would like to be."

She coughed a little bit and blinked. "Excuse me? Did I hear you right?"

He nodded. "Yes you did. I am asking for your hand in marriage."

"I'm sorry." She said slowly and looked at him. "But I mean no disrespect... but I didn't think you thought of me in that way..?"

"If I had to choose my Empress, I want her to be well knowledgeable about the empire. To be poised and well mannered and I thought of you." He said and looked at her. "And this marriage will be political."

"Political huh?" She raised an eyebrow. "I have no title my lord. I'm truly flattered."

"Think of it as an insurance." He said with a mischievous smile. "You become my Empress and I will not be force to raise my hand."

"You really thought this through ." She said with a smile. "I'm not the kind of woman to be backed into the wall."

"So much spirit." He smiled and kissed her hand. "Think about my proposal." He said and with that took his leave.

She took a deep breath and leaned back against the chair.

"W..what was t..that bout?" Lelouch murmured.

"You didn't hear any of that?" She asked and raised her eyebrow.

He slowly shook his head. "I was in and out. The last part I heard was when he asked for your hand in marriage." He breathed. Even talking took his toll on him. "How long have I been out?"

"Thats.. a bit hard to explain." She said nervously.

"C.C.. we've known each other for years." He chuckled a bit. "This is the first time that you hesitate."

She sighted and nodded. "I know. But at moments like these.. I just want to protect you. Not just you, but your wellbeing also."

"Please just tell me!" He groaned. "I won't be able to stay awake for much long."

"Almost a year." She said and soothed her hair back. "After a few more days, it will be a year. This is the longest you've ever spoken."

"W..hat?" He panted. It couldn't be? There's no way that much time has passed. He wouldn't believe it. "I have to get out of this bed." He groaned and tired to move his body.

He couldn't even move his arms no more than a few inches off the bed. This was wrong. This has to be wrong.

C.C sat by his side and held his hands. "Please! You can't strain yourself like this!" She begged.

"This has to be a mistake. Please." He said and looked up at her, with tears in his eyes. Lelouch was starting to get hysterical. It was not like him to let his feelings get the best of him.

"Darling ." She said softly and leaned down to press her forehead against his. "You have to hold it together."

He sniffled a bit and nodded. "Youre right C.C." He said and held onto her hands desperately. "I need you to do me a favor C.C."

"Anything I can do."

"I need you to except Schneizel's proposal." He said and looked her in the eyes.

"What?" She gasped at him. "You don't know what your asking."

"I do my beloved. I'm asking you to jump head first into an ocean of sharks."

"If I do that then I won't be able to stay here by your side."

He nodded. "I know. If there was any other way, I wouldn't have asked. But I need you to be my eyes and ears out there. Since I can't move from my bed." He said and gently kissed her cheek. "Please do this for me."

She hesitated for a bit and nodded. "I'll do it. First thing in the morning."

"Thank you so much." He said with a small smile.

With all this talk of Schneizel, he completely forgot about his lover. He blinked a little and looked around the room.

"Has Suzaku been here to see me at all?"

"He would be here everyday. Day and night." She explained. "No one could tear him away from your side."

"I see." He said sleepy. "Why isn't he here now?" Lelouch would have thought that Suzaku would have been the first person to see him awake. It would have made him incredibly happy if he was here.

"Schneizel had to force Gino to take him away with Anaya." She said and sat up straight. "He said that Suzaku spent to much of his time in here and that he must of forgotten his other duties. That he was also a Knight and that he needed to start acting like one."

Lelouch flinched a little at her words. He could only imagine that pained look on his lovers face. Being forced away from his bed.

"I need to go to him." He said and tried to get up again.

"No!" She yelped and put her hands on his shoulders. "You can't move yourself. You just barely woken up."

He groaned and shook his head. "He needs to know that I'm alright."

"We can't let anyone see you. So far everyone thinks your comatose. If people started to suspect that you've woken up... I don't even want to think about who else might try something." She said and held his hand again. "Please my love. You have to promise me that you will not leave this room until your fully ready?" She begged. Since he was making her except Schneizel's proposal, it was only fair that he promised not to leave this room.

He groaned in frustration and nodded. "I promise my love." He said and kissed her hand.

Suzaku's Cell

Suzaku gently started to bang his head against the stone wall. He sighted and rubbed his eyes. When will this torture finally be over? He was starting to lose his mind down here.

"Damn. You looks more like hell than before." Said a voice from down the hall.

Could it be? He thought and went to crawl towards the iron bars.

From the shadows he saw that spikey blonde head that he grew to love. Even though he annoyed him relentlessly Suzaku was relieved to see Gino's.

"How am I glad to see you." Suzaku said and smiled.

"I'm sorry I couldn't come down here sooner." He apologized.

"It's alright." He said and sat down. "Tell me? Has anything changed?"

"Well tomorrow their crowning Schneizel as the new Emperor." He started but stopped. "There's an interesting twist to it though."

"What do you mean?"

"Not only is he being crowned, he is also getting married."

"Married? To whom?" Suzaku asked completely surprised. He never once noticed a woman in the picture. Or maybe there was one but since he was too busy with Euphemia...

"You remember that green haired woman? The one that was always by Lelouch's side?" Gino's said.

"Wait... Schneizel is marrying her? Can he even do that?"

"Looks like he can." He said and sighted. "But their engagement hasn't been announced to the public yet."

"Then how do you know?"

"I listened to something I shouldn't have." He admitted.

"Explain." Suzaku said.

"I was making my usual rounds. Then I noticed Schneizel making his way towards Lelouch's room. I thought it was odd, so I followed." He explained. "They left the door open enough for me to hear the whole conversation."

"This is so odd." He said and rubbed his cheek.

This wasn't like Schneizel at all. But Suzaku didn't have enough time to be worrying about that. He was on limited time.

"I need you to bring me something."

"Like what?" Gino's asked.

"A pen and some paper please." He said and looked up at him. "I need you to bring it to me as soon as you can."

Gino's nodded and put his hand over his heart. "I will. Just hold on a bit longer."

He nodded and watched him leave. Right now he had so many questions but he couldn't even get them answered. He had to leave something before he died.

Him dying? He thought sadly. The thought sounded so foreign to him. He didn't expect to die so soon. And over something that wasn't his fault. He crawled back towards the wall and brought his knees up to his chest.
