Chapter 21: Weekend walks with Jem.

Andy and Nick's respective Friday shifts had been busy, but also enjoyable. Andy had spent most of the day working with Sam and Marlo, which was very awkward because the two of them had been arguing over the custody of their baby girl, Mya. It was in those moments that Andy was glad that she and Nick did not have children, but she also knew that she and Nick would not be like that. She had bought a pregnancy test, with the hope that, when she took it at the weekend, it would be positive, but since she and her husband had not seen much of each other, this weekend was going to just be about the two of them having quality time together, like they had done when they had been undercover, but now they were married.

As Friday night ended and Nick's night-shift ended, he and Andy picked Jem up and went out for a dinner together and, by the time they arrived home, they were both so exhausted that they just went to bed and fell asleep. They had the whole weekend together.

Not being a morning-person, when her husband woke up at 9, Andy did not want to get up, so she pretended to be asleep, although she knew that her husband was never fooled by that.

When she can smell that the food is ready, Andy leaves their bedroom and finds her husband making a coffee for her and also feeding Jem. Wrapping her arms around him, she asked, "What's on the menu today, Officer Collins?"

"For us, it's pancakes and coffee and it's the usual for Jem." Nick turned around and kissed his wife and she looked into his eyes, with a mischievous look in her eyes as she smiled at him. He laughed and said, "Andy, the food will get cold."

Andy wrapped her arms around Nick's neck and kissed him again, before she said, "It won't get too cold, will it? And I'm trying to get pregnant, aren't we? We were both too tired last night and we have the whole weekend together."

Cupping her face with both of his hands, Nick kissed her passionately, then whispered, grinning, "Yes. The whole weekend. I love you, Officer Collins." He picked Andy up and carried her into their bedroom and Jem remained in the kitchen, eating his breakfast.

After breakfast, the married couple had showers, then, as they had done when they had been undercover, sat down and watched French films, pretending that they were the characters. It was something that held a special place in their hearts because of the time when they had done it when they had been undercover; it had been when they grown closer and when Nick had started to fall in love with Andy. Also, with the rush and chaos of their lives, with their life as police officers and the uncertainty that was always there, it was nice for the two of them to just sit together, cuddled together on the sofa and just enjoy being together. They had not been able to have quality time like this for ages, so it was very treasured. They both believed that they were the luckiest person in the whole world, to be with the other, because of how happy they were and how much they loved each other.

A very lazy morning together followed by taking Jem for a walk and Andy wasn't surprised that Nick insisted on starting Jem off as they were walking, because he wanted to train the pup. They did a usual circuit around where they lived, then, because Jem was tired, because he was only a pup, they sat under the tree. Andy found her husband's hand and took hold it as she realised, "I can't believe we've been married for 7 months. Those months have flown by." She rested her head on Nick's shoulder.

Nick nodded as he replied, "Yeah, they have, Andy." He added, in a very serious tone, "They've been some of the best months of my life."

Those words brought tears of happiness to her eyes, so Andy sat up so that she could look at her husband as she replied, "Me too, Nick! There are days when I'm still not sure how I got so lucky!" She kissed him sweetly, before adding, "We can't take anything for granted. Not in this job and I treasure every moment I'm with you."

Brushing her hair behind her ear, Nick nodded and rested his head against hers. "You're right, Andy. I know you're stressed about the whole baby thing, but stress doesn't help. We just need to be patient, because it will happen. It just takes time. You must also remember, you're the most amazing person I've ever met and you keep getting more magical. Every single day, Andy Collins." He smiled, then Andy's lips caught his in a passionate kiss, until Jem happily butted himself in between them and this made both of them laugh, as the pup looked at them.

On their walk home, the skies opened, so they ran home and immediately changed when they were home, before they sat down together and watched some more French films. Their time together was precious and, if they had known what hard times lay ahead, Andy and Nick might have treasured them even more than they already did.
