Season 1, Chapter 2 - Abrupt Appearances!

4 years later

Tuesday, September 12th.

7:05 am

Westopolis, Central City, GUN HQ - Training HQ

"Shit!" A voice yelled.

Shadow barely flinched at the obnoxious voice that came from across the room. Not even bothering to look up, he sighed and continued to shoot his targets with the gun he had. He already knew who it was and could tell that it was something stupid they were yelling about.

Team Dark was currently warming up for the day in the training area before heading into the office HQ for their usual paperwork.

"Oh Shadow, it's terrible! My nail is broken!" Rouge pretended to whine dramatically.

Shadow internally cringed before he stopped shooting targets and wiped the sweat off his forehead.

"Rouge, what do you want?" he asked, feeling slightly irritated.

It was her fault, so it didn't concern him. Still, she was the closest he had for a best friend, so she was somewhat tolerable. When he wasn't irritated.

Rouge's face took on a look of shock and mock offence before started devilishly smirking. She had finally got his attention.

"I'm merely stating that I'm in distress because my nail is broken. Can't a girl confide in her friends?" she teased.

This bat knew how to get him irritated. He could feel a slight headache coming on...

"Well if you females stop parading around with those stilts you call "nails" I'm sure it would make your life a lot easier." he snarled.

"Ahahaha! Aw, Shadow, you're hilarious! I would have never expected you to pull a sexist comment on me of all people!" she continued.

Shadow facepalmed as he knew he had fallen into her trap of teasing and put the gun back it's rightful place. He then stood in front of her with an unhappy glare.

Rouge immediately stopped laughing and smirked instead before packing her things away to get ready for work.

"I'm sorry, you're just too cute to tease sometimes," she spoke.

Shadow was about to leave until he saw another hedgehog finish up their training too. A pit formed in his stomach as he thought he had met this hedgehog before. Rouge tapped him on the shoulder before turning around to take a look at what he was staring at. She then gasped.

"Correct me if I'm not wrong...but is that who I think it is?" Rouge whispered.

Shadow growled and gently pushed Rouge to the side before starting to tail the hedgehog as he saw that they had left the training grounds.

"Hey..! Shadow, don't leave your damn stuff here! I can't carry it all myself! Shadow?" Rouge yelled after him.

Shadow ignored Rouge and ran back into the Agent Accommodation HQ when he saw other agents staring back at him.

"Who is that?!" someone whispered.

"They're definitely not from here, that's for sure."

Shadow went red in embarrassment.

"Tch...Chaos. I lost them." he whispered to himself.

Shadow took a step back before walking back into the Training HQ to take a shower from his training.

If it is her...we had better not cross paths.

...

8:38 am

"Look who finally decided to show up."

Shadow groaned and walked into the office before sitting down at his desk.

"Can it, Bat."

Rouge playfully pouted before giving Shadow his stuff.

"How rude! I'll have you know that you left this poor bat to carry all of your stuff including yours. So I expect an apology and also a thank you."

Shadow ignored Rouge and got on with his work in silence.

He was on his last nerve and considered moving over to the spare desk in the office. He heard Omega sorting and shredding old paperwork as he logged into his account.

Rouge's face took on a look of shock and mock offence before devilishly smirking. She'd finished her paperwork long ago and they hadn't been on a mission in a while, so there wasn't anything due in until Friday.

"Fine then, be that way." she sighed before walking over to her desk and sitting down in her chair before she pulled out her phone and scrolled through social media.

A silence then developed in the office and Team Dark's rhythm continued throughout the day until it was lunchtime. Rouge went out to collect lunch for the team while Shadow got on with what he was doing since he hadn't finished up his paperwork from his last solo mission.

Eventually, Rouge came back and tried to convince Shadow to eat.

"Shadow, you've got to eat something. I'm seriously worried because you haven't eaten in three days. Surely you–"

"I don't need it, it's not a necessity. Quit bothering me." Shadow passively replied.

Rouge sighed and rolled her eyes.

"Would you quit this holier than thou attitude for once?!" Rouge yelled.

Then she saw it. It was so sly but not sly enough to be unnoticed.

"Are you seriously scoffing at me being worried about you? Why are you smirking?"

Suddenly, there was a loud knock at their door.

Shadow quickly got up from his chair, pulled down on the handle and swung the door open, knowing exactly who it was.

"What do YOU want?" he asked harshly.

It was his least favourite head secretary, a grey wolf. He knew the way she would enter the room, she would knock very hard and give them little time to open the door so that she could walk in unannounced. She obviously had a huge disliking for the team.

He glared down at her while she flashed a fake, faint smile.

"Ahem." she cleared her throat, "If you're done with your tantrum Head Agent Shadow, the General would like to see you after work." she sarcastically replied.

"Senior Special Agent Rouge, to you missy," Rouge commented. The secretary ignored her, mostly unamused with Shadow.

"And if you're still not good at remembering names after 6 years Mr Hedgehog, I suggest you redo some training." she slyly commented, "Agents like you should remember their place."

Rouge rolled her eyes and stood in front of her.

"You're one to talk, huh? Remember your position at this job, little miss secretary, in this office. This dainty little place is where you're usually stuck when Elite Agents like me, actually do some kind of useful work."

The secretary blushed an embarrassed red while having a stare-down battle with Rouge. Shadow didn't have time for this and cleared his throat.

"Usually I wouldn't care, but you're going to get us into some kind of trouble," Shadow growled.

The secretary's eyebrow angrily twitched as Shadow talked like she wasn't there at all.

Rouge rolled her eyes and walked to the door before slamming the door in the secretary's face. She then opened the door before smiling sweetly.

"I'm so sorry about that. It was an accident." Rouge spoke.

Absolutely fuming, the secretary fixed her folder and quietly added her comment before walking off.

"Know your rank, Miss Rouge." The secretary commented.

Rouge chuckled silently as she knew she had gotten underneath the woman's fur and closed the office door.

6:00 pm

Oh wow...today was another harsh day.

Amy walked around the large office building on the 3rd floor, packing away for the day. She had just been released from her temporary squad and had just returned from a mission. Walking around in her military uniform issued by G.U.N, she sighed and decided to head straight for the showers.

Since she had recently been on a mission with some of her fellow agents, a Senior Special Agent had been in charge. So she had to report back to them at the end of the week. Writing that down in her notebook as a reminder, she took a sip from her water bottle and stuffed the rest of her stuff into her backpack.

Suddenly, an email appeared on her screen.

It read:

'Dear Special Agent Amy,

Please make your way to the General's office. You have officially been assigned to a team.'

She sat down at her chair and sent an email back.

Dear General,

I have received an email that says I have a meeting with you. Please allow me some time as I have recently just returned from a mission.

Sincerely, Amy.

Amy logged out and made her way to the showers. She quickly washed off the dirt from today's mission.

Obtaining a spare office outfit that she kept in her locker in the changing room, she speedily got ready for her meeting.

The changing room was surprisingly quiet since the agents went home, so Amy could get ready in peace.

She wore a white long-sleeved dress shirt with a red jacket over it and a black tight pencil skirt with black heels. Her quills that were past shoulder length were in a curly ponytail and her bangs were pinned to the side. She also wore light makeup such as mascara and red lipgloss.

When she arrived at the office, she knocked 3 times before the door was opened by one of the Agents standing inside of the office.

"Good Afternoon, Special Agent Amy Rose reporting," she stated.

"Ah yes, Agent Rose." he breathed out after staring at her.

She shifted uncomfortably before she took a seat opposite his desk. He then started to speak.

"As you know, 4 years ago you joined G.U.N as part of being a cadet/trainee. At first, I decided that you were going to be a backup field agent since you had no beforehand experience."

He paused and let Amy take in the info before continuing.

"Then you suddenly requested to be in... Team Dark. I have no idea why you chose to be with that obnoxiously, irritating and impudent squad," he complained, rubbing his temples in dissatisfaction.

Amy frowned.

'Why on Möbius is he talking that way about them?'

"And so, I asked you to prove that you have what it takes to be on one of the most elite teams in our Undercover Division. I decided that it was necessary to put you to the test."

He paused again before continuing.

"I asked you to go on two of the missions that one of my colleagues had chosen for you. You successfully broke into the base of the criminals using your tactics along with the training you were provided with. You also caught those criminals and you fought well."

Amy shuddered in remembering that mission. There were so many things she didn't want to remember. Yet she kept a faint smile on her face.

"Now," he sighed before continuing, "I'm pleased to delight you with the news that you have successfully made your way onto their team. You will meet with them today."

The door suddenly opened with voices, but Amy's outburst caused them not to pay attention to it.

"YES! Thank you General, you don't know how much this means to me!" Amy yelled while throwing a fist in the air.

Shadow cleared his throat, still confused as to what was going on, while Rouge and Omega stepped into the room.

"Good Afternoon, Head Agent Shadow, Omega and Senior Special Agent Rouge." he greeted them, unamused.

Amy straightened herself out and waved at them but was surprised when they gave her a confused look. They hadn't seemed to recognise her at all. It made her nervous.

Shadow nodded his head to acknowledge her wave and kept his eyes glued to Amy, furrowing his brows and trying to figure out who she was.

"Hold on... Amy?" Rouge quietly whispered, horrified.

Shadow's heart skipped a beat before his face fell and he looked over to the matured rose. All of her features pointed toward Amy, now that he paid closer attention. But it didn't look like how he imagined her at all. After all, the last time he had properly seen her was about 6 years ago.

'So my instincts this morning were right! What on Möbius is SHE doing here?' Shadow asked himself.

"What the hell is going on?!" Shadow asked with a harsh tone.

"Calm that tone of yours, H.A. Shadow, If you would let me explain maybe you'd find out." he bellowed and motioned with his hands to sit down. They all took a seat except Omega.

Looking at them, he continued.

"Amy Rose here is a Special Agent in and has since requested to be part of your team. She will be working as a Special Agent in your squad as well, so please refer to her as S.A. Rose if you must."

Rouge's mouth opened in shock.

"Furthermore, I would like to permit S.A. Rose to move into your quarters. Having your teammate living with you would be efficient, no?" the General continued.

"Excuse me? Isn't this too sudden?" Rouge questioned. For once in her life, she couldn't keep up with what the general was saying.

The General ignored her statement.

"I want you all to go on a mission together and see how you'll manage together by the end of the week. You have until Friday. You may leave."

"That's bull–!" Shadow started.

Before Shadow could even put his hand up to retort, an ivory hand shoved his hand down to stop his outburst. Shadow smacked Rouge's hand away and looked at her, full of anger. The General, however, raised a brow at them and smirked.

"That will be all, Head Agent Shadow. This meeting is concluded. You are dismissed."

Sensing that it was very awkward, Amy answered the general.

"Affirmative, General," Amy answered before leaving with the rest of the möbians.

Amy went downstairs to her office to collect her bag as her team had returned to their office to collect their stuff. Finally, work was over for them for the day.

To her surprise, they were actually waiting for her outside. She had expected them to bail on her and that she would have to find her own way home. Instead, she was met with grim expressions.

Shadow slightly turned his head, expecting Rouge to be arguing with Amy. And he was correct.

Rouge demanded answers from Amy.

"What made you want to become a recruit, Amy?" Rouge asked.

She saw that the girl didn't respond. Rouge kept her cool. She knew how difficult the girl was to deal with in the past and was not a particular fan of Amy's unstoppable outbursts. So she decided to break it down for Amy and tried to coax her into changing her mind.

"You know how dangerous it is here. And I don't know if you're capable of working on our team. This is basically like the damn military Amy. You can DIE." Rouge hissed.

Amy gave a long sigh before looking at the streets. She then ran her hands against some wall before taking in a deep breath.

"The Freedom Fighters kicked me off the team," she stated with a frown on her face.

Rouge snapped her head over in Amy's direction, eyes widening and feeling a surge of shock run through her body.

Before Rouge could say anything else, Amy cleared her throat and spoke.

"I have to collect my stuff from Agent Accommodation, so please email me your address!" Amy spoke while running away.

She hugged Rouge before leaving quickly.

"Do you think she'd be able to get here alright?" Rouge asked, a little surprised from the hug.

Shadow scoffed.

"What a joke. Why should I care where she goes? She's not setting foot into that house."

Westopolis, Central City, Team Dark's Residence.

7:10 pm

"I know you're in there! Let me in!" Amy yelled.

She had been banging down the door for the past 5 minutes and even though the lights were on, she could tell that they were intentionally pretending that they weren't home.

"I will break this door down with my hammer!"

Suddenly, the door swiftly opened. Amy could hear a hint of laughter in Rouge's voice.

"Sorry darling, I didn't hear the door. Come inside!" Rouge spoke with fake enthusiasm.

'Of course Rouge would be this sinister.' Amy thought.

On the Ground floor, there was an open kitchen next to the living room. In the living room, there was a massive purple couch, a couple of bean bags and a big dining table to the right. In front of the bean bags, there was a flatscreen TV. Next to that was a bookshelf with board games and a stereo underneath.

They both walked upstairs so that Amy could put her stuff away.

The first floor had Rouge's Room, a bathroom, a briefing room with mission tools and gadgets and a mini kitchen. And a balcony on the outside of it with dying plants. The second floor had 2 bedrooms (One belonging to Shadow) and another balcony. It looked dusty and unused and the key to it was nowhere to be seen. Amy made another mental note.

'What is up with these balconies?' Amy thought to herself.

Down the hall was a training room with a mini gym.

And finally, outside was a huge garden, to Amy's delight, and an unused pool.

Rouge opened up the spare bedroom on the second floor.

'It's spacious alright, but it looks like it hasn't been used since they moved in.'Amy thought to herself.

She coughed with the dust all in her face while Rouge left her there to deal with it.

Amy set her two suitcases down from the cabin that she used to stay in while at G.U.N headquarters.

She then went over to the bed and removed the sheets and curtains to put them to wash. Then she made a list of what she needed to do to fix up her new room. She needed to re-paint the walls, buy new bedding, put up new curtains and she needed to borrow a car to move in the rest of her stuff...

As she was writing, all of a sudden, Omega appeared behind her. She yelped as he started speaking.

"Analysing Amy Rose... Amelia Franklin Rose. Now registered as an ally to Team Dark. Age: 18 years old. Date of Birth, 23rd September. Running speed, 600mph. Melee weapon: Piko Piko Hammer."

Amy blushed and was astonished that he knew all this info. Maybe G.U.N had updated Omega with their technology. Furthermore, she wanted to tell him that she no longer used her hammer unless there came a time for it.

"I think that's enough Omega." Rouge sighed from the other side of the door, clearly amused by Amy's embarrassing situation.

"Well Amy, we didn't finish our conversation from earlier," she commented.

Rouge wanted to know why Amy had chosen to stay with them of all people and if she was capable of working on an elite team of Agents.

However, Amy was still hurting from the pain of being cruelly kicked off the team and the memories started to flood back into her head. So she decided to quickly come up with an excuse to leave.

"U-uh, I think I'll talk later Rouge, I need to go out and buy things to fix up my room, and for the house alright?" She replied, trying to convince Rouge with an awkward laugh.

Rouge looked at her, obviously not convinced at all, but stepped out of Amy's pathway, leaving her to put on her coat and heels.

Suddenly, Amy then encountered Shadow in the livingroom.

'Oh for Chaos sake...I should have known Rouge wasn't going to listen to me at all...!' Shadow thought to himself.

"Why are you here? Actually, how did you even get here?" Shadow asked, suspicious of her.

"Nevermind that. I knew you guys were going to try and ditch me. I'm your teammate for Chaos' sake! I expected better from you." Amy declared with her hands on her hips.

"What's there to expect, you're a stranger." Shadow bluntly stated.

"Oh, c'mon Shadow, you know better than anyone that we aren't strangers. We're f–" Amy spoke, trying to make it seem less awkward.

"If we aren't strangers, then we're mere acquaintances. Don't push your luck considering you of all hedgehogs have even set foot in MY house." Shadow growled.

Amy huffed in frustration.

"Why are you so grumpy? How are we ever going to get along if you–"

"I don't recall asking for all this."

There was silence.

"You're a jerk Shadow! I seriously can't believe you right now! How dare you–?"

Shadow walked up to Amy and backed her up into a wall and put either arm above her head.

"How dare I what? This is my house. Or have you already forgotten?" Shadow growled.

He could detect a trace of fear in her jade irises but he was surprised at her next words.

"Ahah. You really think I'm scared of you?"

Shadow sadistically smirked.

"It would be wise if you didn't try to irritate me, Rose. The Ultimate Lifeform will not hesitate to throw you and you despicable hammer off the roof."

Amy flinched but still held her stance. She poked him in the chest and pushed him away from her, glaring at him.

"Y-you're a jerk and a sadist. How surprising. You and Sonic would be best friends." Amy mocked.

'The only thing I'll ever feel for that blue nuisance is mutual dislike.' Shadow thought.

Shadow groaned. This girl wasn't going anywhere anytime soon.

"I'll let you off this time. But don't get too comfortable. Any shit from you and you'll sleep comfortably the streets." Shadow stated.

Amy huffed, clearly upset and marched herself out of the house.

Westopolis, Central City, Brownstone High Street

7:53 pm

"Well then, I'll be back!"

Tails walked out of his new workshop and home and out into the chilly autumn wind. As he walked down the road, he sighed as he knew that he still wasn't used to the new area. Tails strode past a couple of stops before he walked inside of the supermarket.

He hurriedly walked around the supermarket to get the things he needed for his workshop as well as the snacks and drinks Sonic had requested. The problem was that the store seemed to have been renovated since he and Sonic had moved here. He was struggling to find a wrench which was misplaced by Sonic. Thankfully, it was the last thing on his shopping list.

Tails walked past aisles looking for the "tools" isle when he thought he saw a pink flash. His heart dropped a little and he looked in front of him. Becoming nervous, he blinked and followed the direction that it came from. It was a pink hedgehog.

"That...that's impossible." He whispered to himself.

The pink hedgehog turned right. He followed them, his gut instinct hoping that it wasn't Amy. When he saw their face when they took a sideways glance at something, he saw that it was indeed her.

Why now...Why now of all times?

Tails felt a surge of guilt, anxiety and anger pool in his stomach as he desperately tried not to growl or call her name. He hadn't seen her for all this time and now, he had finally found her. He started taking deep breaths to calm himself down.

Of course, he wanted to know what had happened within the last 4 years. He was sure that this was Amy.

His hand reached out to touch her shoulder and he opened his mouth to call her name.

Amy's ears twitched and she swiftly turned around and caught his hand. Her eyes widened and her heart raced as she laid her eyes on someone that she hadn't expected to see.

"A-amy?" questioned Tails with a small voice.

She swiftly turned around and tried to walk away but he held her wrist to stop her. She had no choice but to talk. Amy shook his hand away from her wrist and glared hard at him with a nasty look. Tails flinched at her coldness and felt hurt by it.

"You've got the wrong hedgehog," she spoke with a sarcastic tone.

"Oh please," he replied, "Who else wouldn't recognise the 20-year-old...pink hedgehog with long quills? In-office uniform? What is Chaos' name happened to you, Amy?"

"So nice of you to ask 4 years later," Amy replied, her tone laced with more sarcasm.

She had a distant look and a fake smile plastered on her face. Tails started to become frustrated.

"Look, Amy, let's not make this more difficult than it has to be–"

"Yet it wasn't so difficult to kick me off the team now was it, huh?" she retorted.

"Says the bitch who decided to make a scene in front of her friends when they were just trying to help her?"

She didn't reply straight after because it had caught her off guard. Tails? Swearing at her? What did they even help her with?

'What happened to me, he asks? More like what happened to him after I left?' Amy thought to herself, hurt and confused.

"You've been off the radar since July, missed some of our friends birthday's didn't even call to tell us that you were okay and we would've called to apologise—."

"Stop with the excuses, Tails. Were you really my friend Tails? Or everyone else? What kind of asshole of a 'friend' would try to apologise almost 4 years later?"

Tails flinched at her outburst. This definitely was Amy. She still had the same temper.

"Weren't you the same one complaining about me being a nuisance on the team? Or should I quote "Pink Annoyance"? I did something useful and left your lives. So don't try to apologise for something that happened 4 years ago. That chance is long gone!" Amy interrupted while raising her voice, breathing heavily and staring down at Tails with anger in her eyes.

Tails was astonished at Amy's outburst, but he was more hurt than anything. He knew what she was saying was the truth, but she was also at fault too.

He looked up to her, setting down his shopping basket on the floor and pointing a finger in her direction with a dark look.

"I guess Sonic was right. You... are the most toxic hedgehog I have ever met." he spat.

Amy felt tears threaten to spring up to her eyes but she refused to let them down. She was not ready to let them win. She put her shopping basket down too and walked up to him and glared at him.

"Fine, Tails." Amy snarled with venom in her voice, "I don't know what Sonic told you, but I hope this whole incident doesn't continue ruining our friendship...or what's left if it."

He widened his eyes and tried to say something to her, obviously feeling bad but she turned hot on her heel, picked up her shopping basket and left.

She then walked around the store picking up the things she needed to clean her room. Then she paid for her stuff and got out of that store, hoping never to see that fox again.

"Have a nice day, ma'am!" she heard the clerk chirp from behind her.

'I'll try to.'
