-.- Summer time

Portgas D. Ace was a free soul, there was nothing that could stop him from exploring, not even death. Therefore, to think that Minerva McGonagall, the Gryffindor lioness, could stop him from exploring the territory around the town, on the other side of Hogwarts, was like thinking that the young pirate would join the marines.

"Portgas! Where are you going?" Said the woman in the morning when she saw that the boy stood up at great speed to leave his dishes in the sink.

"Explore," said the boy as he quickly passed the table where they both ate.

"Don't go too far away"

"I'll only go the town, and what's nearby," said the boy as he ran to the door, which quickly opened and left the house at high speed.

The sun shone on the little street and the young pirate moved to what was the main street; he had gotten to see, when he arrived, several things and wanted to see what else was there.

The street was full of people of different ages, who came and went from different stores. It was not Diagon Alley but the concept was very similar, only more rural, he ran into many stores including the famous joke store that the twins talked a lot. He did not understand why until the third year they were allowed to leave the castle to visit this town, and only on certain weekends, what happened if they needed something in urgency and couldn't wait until that day.

His next important stop in his exploration was the candy store. He already knew that there was a great variety of magical candies, but he never imagined that there were so many, with only one glance he would know who would not stop and eat each and every one of these sweets, if only they had chocolate ... or wait, they had a full section.

It was not a very big town and as expected, in one morning he managed to finish exploring it.

Therefore he chose to go to the next point, which were the surroundings. He decided to head for one of the mountains that were in the vicinity, the mountains were always exciting, there were always things to see there, however, already away from the town he noticed that he was hungry, looking in all directions he chose to see what he could hunt, after all there is food everywhere, you just need to know where to look.

Going through the place he wondered what kind of things he would find to eat, although this was a mountain near a magical forest, there must have to been things here different from what he was used to hunt.

A loud growl caught his attention, and as he looked to one side he saw a bear. It was not a giant bear like the ones he was used to. Well, this would be a good snack.

There was nothing strange about taking a nap after a mid-afternoon snack, so he returned late into the night.

-.-

Minerva McGonagall was for many a firm and strict woman, who cared for all her students equally and only expected the best from them. However, not many of them could see that, at least in the first years, but Professor McGonagall was like a lioness who took care of all her cubs, in all aspects.

Including feeding habits.

She was sure that Ace clearly understood the reasons why she had taken such a drastic decision, but he refused to accept it, and like every child his age, he had opted to make a drama out of this and sitting at the table with the light breakfast in front, well light for him, very complete for any other person, he looking at the woman with his best expression of victim.

"Eating a lot does not help your condition," said Minerva, struggling not to fall under that gaze.

"I've lived many years with my ... Narcolepsy, and never changed my diet, I'm not going to start now, this is a crime" he paused and Minerva was sure he thought what else to add, "I'm growing" ah! Of course the old excuse of good development "I need all my nutrients to grow big and strong"

"And exaggerating that can lead to obesity"

Incredibly, the boy tensed, she would have expected vanity from a fifth grade boy, but not from one of eleven, well, as long as this served her, she would not mind.

"I exercise a lot, it's not like I'm sitting doing nothing"

That was a good point… but….

"But you sleep longer than anyone else, right?" In response the boy pouted "You spend more time than the other children asleep there is no sense for you to eat more if all the exercise you do only compensates the hours of sleep that your body is at rest. "

"My narcolepsy attacks do not last that long"

"You time them?"

His expression told her no.

Sighing the child took the plate and left it clean, before standing up and after thanking for the food, left the house.

-.-

Ace sat on a large rock at the top of the mountain from where he could see part of Hogsmeade and the train track getting lost in the distance, while the birds flew freely over the sky.

However, he did not observe the landscape that developed in front of him, his mind traveled to other things, to other moments. One of those strange moments that the carriers of the D stopped to think. This time Ace was thinking about his past and what he needed to improve.

In the New World it was said that one of the most important skills to be learned was Haki. The best advice that could be given was that.

Ace had developed a bit of Haki while he was in the Gran Line, and Marco had started training Ace when he noticed that the boy had talent but no training, and knowing that it was unacceptable for the boy to continue like this, he opted to take matters in his own hands and training him.

But, Ace did not use much Haki, he hadn't master it and his knowledge in the area was just the basics, his natural reflexes were normally enough, and his strength and endurance was quite good, along with his power as a Logia user. He trusted too much in his power, and would never trust his power again, would not allow the events of the past to be repeated.

Now, the only question was: Where to begin to solve this problem? Busoshoku or Kenbunshoku? Where to start?

-.-

He was more stubborn than a mule, Minerva did not doubt that.

Preventing him from eating more than usual, she knew, was impossible, she didn't doubt that someone was feeding him, although the possibility that he was hunting wasn't so crazy, considering that the day before, he had happily announced that he had brought dinner, as he entered the house with what appeared to be a deer on his back.

But regardless of whether the child was still eating more than he should have, she was sure that even in her power she was able to make sure that Ace took her medicine.

"I swore I was going to rest from this with Hermione away," the boy muttered, and Minerva mentally made a note to congratulate the girl for the effort. "And if I take it midmorning?"

"It should first thing in the morning," said the teacher standing next to the small wall that divided the hallway leading to the front door and the large room, next to the dining room where the child was sitting waiting for the woman to let him go.

"With Hermione it's easier"

"It is because you wait until breakfast time is over" said the professor, "and she never misses class or is late"

The boy growled, he clearly did not like being trapped there.

"You know I'll let you out if you take the medicine"

"It tastes horrible," the boy replied simply.

"That's not important"

Ace stood up automatically offended "Its going to destroy my perception of food, I do not want that to happen, I will not be able to taste it"

"You hardly taste something with the speed with which you eat"

Suddenly someone knocked on the door, Minerva simply turned in reaction to see who was; while she was between the door and Ace, there was no problem.

Just when she opened the door, he heard a noise from a window being open and she could immediately see Ace jumping over the fence, while Mecha was flying from a tree nearby and behind the child.

That couple fought a lot, but when necessary, they unite to cause disasters. She had to think about how to make the boy take his medicine, and that the hawk did not interfere.

-.-

Minerva reviewed the last article of Transfiguration that had been sent to her for the magazine of Transfiguration Today, it was close to midafternoon and it would soon begin to get dark.

Ace must still be outside, playing somewhere, he usually return around at dusk, so it should not be long. At least everything had been normal in the three weeks they had been there.

Someone knocking on the door distracted her and she went to the door to see who could be, when she opened the door she found a witch who looked like she had run and was struggling to catch her breath. "Professor" she managed to say in a broken voice "the child, the child who lives with you, something happened to him"

Automatically, the two women ran to the main street where outside Honeydukes a small crowd was staring at the boy lying on the floor, as she make her way to Ace, Minerva managed to hear several comments.

"He was fine, he simply fell"

"Is he dead?"

"Poor creature, He went to buy candy"

Once Minerva managed to pass, she observed the figure that was in front of her, lying on the floor was Ace. It was not difficult to guess what had happened.

"Ace, you'll miss dinner if you keep sleeping"

"No," said the boy, incorporating still with a sleepy face, looking everywhere "I fell asleep"

"SLEEP ?!" All the wizards and witches who watched the scene exclaimed. Before seeing how the boy collapsed again "AGAIN ?!"

The truth she still did not know how he had survived all that year alone with this strange disease.

-.-

Mecha, was a bird that liked the good life, when he lived in the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley, he loved how the sun passed through the small window and warmed his wings throughout the morning. After being bought, he still loved to let his wings be touched by the sun, on the nights he sleep on the top of the rails of sofas by the fire, and be able to fly with complete freedom; the brat that had bought him, loved freedom, that was always good .

But what he loved most about the brat was that he had good taste for food, and with that appetite there was always something to eat. However the hatchling always had to have the best piece, and that Mecha could not afford, therefore, the lunch hour was the most active time for all.

Even in someone else's house it was necessary to have these battles. The woman, the teacher who had given them asylum that summer, had already learned after three weeks that it was necessary to have precautions at lunchtime and had learned them well; maybe because of that, every time it was time to eat, she decided to leave the food on the table before calling them to eat, and while she did something else, Mecha and Ace fought over the food.

"You really dont get tired of doing this every day" none said anything, or moved to try to answer, they knew that if they did they would lose food.

"One day you're going to hurt yourselves in this absurd game," the woman said as Ace pulled hard to win the piece.

-.-

Ace came back tired that night, it had gone dark, and possibly Minnie would be upset, after all she always did when he was late, that's why he brought a peace offering. On his shoulder he carried a large deer, which he hoped was his pass to the woman's pardon.

Opening the door was greeted with silence, not shouting.

That was weird, but on entering a little more, he found that the woman slept against on the table, sheets of papers scattered on it, and a few more on the floor.

Ace advanced happily that he had escaped the scolding, only to observe that the food was ready. Looking at Minnie, Ace noticed that she looked tired; the cup of coffee, almost full, was already cold.

Rearranging his prey on his back, the boy moved towards the kitchen, there was much to do.

Shortly after, Minerva waked up at a pleasant aroma, which in turn provoked the sensation of hunger.

Incorporating, she noticed that the house was already illuminated for the night, and in the kitchen, Ace observed two small bottles of spices in front of a large pot in the fire.

"Ace" surprised, the boy turned to see the woman.

"Good morning," he said jokingly, "or good night. Wait a moment more, I almost finished"

Still a little asleep, Minerva began to collect the papers for the plan of study of the different grades, and list her new income and who were designated to visit those of Muggle families. When she finished passing everything to the table in the living room, Ace had finished preparing the food, and had deposited on the table several dishes, from soup, to a plate with pieces of meat.

"I did not know you knew how to cook" the woman said, the food was not bad, maybe he had used a little too much of spices, but it didn't tasted that bad, just a little strong.

"I cooked for the Dursleys," said the boy in a disgusted tone, "and when I was traveling ... a friend taught me a little about spices and how to give a different flavor to things, although I hardly use it"

Traveling ... a friend ... Would Ace be referring to the time after he escaped from the Dursleys? That period that was a mystery for everyone.

"Well, he taught you well" said the woman "I guess he was a good cook"

"Of the best, I think there is little competition in the whole world, or even better, in the whole universe"

The boy's voice was full of enthusiasm, and something in Minerva felt calm; at least the child had not been alone all that time.

"If someone with your appetite says he's the best in the world, I'd love to try his food"

Something in Ace changed at that moment, and an expression of surprise replaced that of joy, anger replaced surprise, and sadness replaced anger. "He died a while ago," the child muttered, "and I could not do anything to prevent it, or to avenge him."

-.-

Minerva watched Ace, while the child forcibly made his homework, or at least the one that did not interest him. During this month Minerva had discovered that the child had no problems in learning, he was extremely curious, but this only if he could find the topic interesting or useful.

However, this was not what was going on in Minerva's head.

During all this month she had only seen Ace take a pen if he was doing homework, the rest of the time, the boy was exploring what was around him. She had not seen him, even once, take the pen to write a letter.

And so, she ask him. The boy stopped a moment of his work, to think about the answer, looked up for a moment and answered a simple: "No, I havent heard of them."

That the students sent letters during the summer, was an ancient tradition among wizards. "They have not written to you all summer?" She asked wanting to confirm.

"No" And with that he continued with his work.

She did not like this, Why wouldnt his friends have written to him?, she was sure that with how close they were, Ace would have hundreds of letters.

-.-

Minerva watched the boy who ate at great speed, without any concern in the world, although she had the impression that this was not quite so. She had asked him a question in the morning and the answer had been unexpected, and she felt that she should distract him in some way.

"Ace, I'll go to Hogwarts tomorrow," said Minerva, calling the boy's attention. "Do you want to come with me?"

The boy seemed to consider it a second, "Sure, why not?"
