Bella made her way into the house quietly, she couldn't believe how little the house had changed over the years. Barbara had changed the furniture in the kitchen and living room, but not much else was different. She walked around and avoided the kitchen, cause that's supposedly where her aunt and uncle died. Her dad brought in some suitcases for work, and set it on the table in the main room, "I have to go to work soon, but I hired a life coach for you. She will be here soon, so please treat her with respect," Bella looked at him confused, "A life coach? Is that another word for babysitter, dad?" She felt extremely annoyed, 'I am 15 years old, I don't need a babysitter…' she thought to herself.
Her dad sighed and looked at her, "Bella, I can't leave you alone right now, especially since the accident here. Besides, I felt like you needed someone who can help you get through this tough time-" "Because you're never here when I need you, Dad!" She yelled at him and let all her anger and frustration out in her outburst, but quickly felt awful. She knew that her dad had to work hard, but she wished that he was home more often and spent more time with her. Her dad looked away hurt, but before he could say anything, Bella grabbed her suitcase and went to the room she stayed in whenever she visited this place.
Beetlejuice floated down from the ceiling, still fuming on how the Maitlands so rudely refused his services when he saw an also fuming Bella head into her room and slammed the door shut. He instantly became curious and floated through the wall to see who the girl was. Beetlejuice fazed through the wall and saw the girl sitting on her bed giving the floor the death glare. He chuckled to himself, 'She probably got into a fight with her dad, teens always do…' When she looked up to grab her suitcase, Beetlejuice felt his heart skip a beat, 'Holy crap. This chick's actually pretty cute-' He slapped himself angrily, 'Shut up! What are you, a pedophile? She could be 12 for all you know!'
He shook his head frustrated when he noticed that the girl was sitting at he desk flipping through what looked to be a well-used sketchbook Curiosity once again seized him, there really wasn't much he could do to entertain himself now that he was a ghost of his former self, and he made his way behind the girl. She seemed to be flipping through some of her old artworks, which he had to admit were not bad. She stopped on one page that was completely filled, it was a drawing of a beautiful woman sitting on a bench in a peaceful looking park. Beetlejuice had to admit that the chick had some talent, much more than the snobs of the Neveworld.
"That's a really nice drawing..." he said mostly to himself. He knew that living people weren't usually able to see or hear the undead, and he was basically like the Maitlands at this point in time. If he was at the peak of his power, everyone would be able to see him, but since his mom "cursed" him, he was reduced to this state. How he missed being seen by living people, dead folks just weren't as lively or entertaining. He wished that the girl would be able to hear and see him, h***, he would be content if she could just hear him! Would be hilarious to just appear and scare the pants off of her from time to time. So it came as a shock to him when the girl politely answered, "Thank you, it took me at least 3 hours to do-"
Bella didn't know why she answered, perhaps it was some sort of reflex, but she instantly realized that the man's voice was not her father's. She turned around and saw an extremely pale man, in a black and white striped suit, with crazy looking green hair. They stared at each other for what felt like forever, but was probably a couple of seconds, when the man decided to break the silence, "Uh… Hi there," In the blink of an eye Bella kicked the man in his shin, and Spartan kicked him in his chest, sending him to the floor. Beetlejuice wasn't really hurt since he physically couldn't feel pain, but he was really surprised that the girl had such quick reflexes.
Bella, on the other hand, was a mixture of confused and frightened, 'Who the heck is this guy? Why is he in my house? Did I hurt him? What should I do?' She glanced at a wooden ruler in her bag. Bella quickly got an idea and grabbed the ruler, wielding it like a sword. She walked over to the dazed man on the floor, then proceeded to point the ruler at his face and demand with as much courage as she could muster, "Who are you! And what are you doing in my room?" Beetlejuice looked at the ruler, the looked up to the face of its wielder, 'Either this chick is trying to bluff me into complying to her demands, or she's got some serious spunk!' While Beetlejuice was deciding how to answer, Bella was trying to stay in charge of the situation, "If you don't answer me soon, I'll… I'll-" Beetlejuice smiled slyly at her, "You'll smack me with your ruler?"
Bella glanced down at her ruler and wanted to kick herself, why else would she have a ruler if not to use it as a weapon of defense, "Y-yeah. I'll hit you with my ruler…" She was quickly losing her confidence and hoped that her dad would come up to save her from the awkward situation she was in. 'Maybe he's just calling the police?' she thought to herself. Beetlejuice held up his hand, "If you're going to hit me, might as well do it. I'm on the floor, powerless. Perfect for you to strike," Bella looked at him warily, 'I know I did just threaten him, but I don't feel comfortable smacking a stranger…' Beetlejuice taunted her a bit, "What's the matter cutie? Do you not have the guts to actually do it?"
Bella was a mixture of flustered and enraged, 'How dare this creep call me a cutie!' She went to hit the man but lost her grip on the ruler, causing her to accidentally throw the ruler at him. She felt aghast, she just threw a ruler at a random stranger! What was wrong with her! Luckily Beetlejuice was able to phase right through the ruler with ease. "Where'd it go!" she asked taking an involuntary step back in fear. Beetlejuice, wanting to scare her some more, reached through himself and picked up the ruler from behind him, "It's right here little lady…" Normally she would have given a man a piece of her mind if they were talking to her like this, but she was so focused on how he was able to phase through himself that she forgot all about his flirtatious comment.
Beetlejuice stood up triumphantly and held out the ruler, causing Bella to take another step back, "What's the matter? I thought you wanted to act all tough?~" Bella had backed against her desk, growing more and more frightened by the minute, "Who-who are you? What are you!" Beetlejuice tossed the ruler onto the desk beside her, then said in the scariest voice he could muster, he said, "Sweetheart, I'm your worst nightmare. A demon straight from He**."
