Chapter 27: Crush or be Crushed
Hey howdy hey hello, welcome to the show! Enigma's back with the first portion of the provisional licensing exam!
Not much to say here, let's just get into this.
Enjoy!
Feel free to review, but don't just rip into me. I'm doing this for fun, not excessive criticism.
"Not good, I gotta get out of here!" Hiryu grimaced, trying to find an opening to land and make herself less of a target.
"Knock her out of the sky!" Someone shouted, hurling a large rock towards Hiryu, which she narrowly dodged.
"Hiryu!" Someone cried.
Iida charged into the fray, knocking several students over.
"You have to get out of here!" Iida shouted, "Find our fellow students, and regroup!" He told her.
"Right! Thank you, Iida!" Hiryu nodded, flying away as fast as she could, "Get away soon as well!"
"I will!"
Moxie
The students didn't hesitation to rush in, attacking Moxie all at once. A four-armed student bore down on him, a ball in each hand.
Moxie leapt out of the way before the student could hit any of his targets, hitting a target on her shoulder as he flipped over her, kicking her away.
A student with spring-like arms threw a punch from several feet away, their arm rocketing out to hit Moxie. They missed the target on his shoulder and hit his arm instead.
Gritting his teeth, Moxie grabbed their arm before it could retract and yanked them towards him. Leaping to the right, he kicked them without firing off his bounce first, firing it when his foot made contact instead.
"My new Ultimate Move: Bounce Bounce Cannon!" Moxie grinned, sending the student flying away and flipping out of the way of a winged student.
"What's up with this kid?!" The cowboy-like student shouted, getting kicked in the stomach and having one of their targets hit.
"We can't pin him down!" The police-like student cried, getting one of their targets hit as well, "He can just keep witling us down!"
"You all saw him in the Sports Festival." One of the students stepped forward, catching Moxie's foot when he tried to kick them, hitting the target on his thigh, "Just do what that Bakugo kid did!"
Moxie grit his teeth and Bounced his other foot up into the student's chin, forcing them to let go. Twisting around to catch himself, Moxie Bounced up to his feet and leapt away.
"You think I'll let you?!" Moxie laughed, "One target down… three seems like plenty, but two seems dangerously low… this just got a lot more stressful!"
"He's right! We just gotta get him in a grappling math!" The four-armed student rushed forward, trying to grab Moxie in a bear hug.
"You gotta grab me, first!" Moxie smiled, sliding through her legs and hitting the target on her heel, "Good luck with that!"
Hiryu
Hiryu found an area that seemed to be deserted and landed. An exam like this was tough for her, flying in the air made her a target, but remaining on the ground limited her mobility.
Without warning, a girl with dark green hair came out of nowhere, going for the target on Hiryu's tail. Hiryu quickly flicked her tail out of the way and slammed it into the student's head, knocking them to the ground.
Letting out a breath of frost, Hiryu froze the students arms to the ground.
"I-I'm sorry, but I'll have to eliminate you." Hiryu said, kneeling next to the student and tapping their first target.
"D#mn U.A. kid! Some of us are using our last chance for this, you know! You're still just a first year, who gave you the right to deny us our license?!" The student snapped, "You haven't trained as much as we have! You haven't worked for it like we did!"
"I'm sorry, but…" Hiryu tapped the second target, "I-I've worked just as hard as anyone else for this!" She tapped the third target, eliminating the student, before shattering the ice on their arms to let them leave, "I won't just give up and let you go!"
"How the pace has accelerated! We now have… fifty-two… no, fifty-three individuals who have passed! They're just coming one after another! With each having eliminated at least two others, that brings our eliminated count to two hundred and thirty!" Mera announced, "And now we're at fifty-four! We're just over halfway there! Pick up the pace and try to finish!"
"Already halfway there… I've got to move fast!" Hiryu clenched her fist, "I can't afford to spend time finding everyone else!"
Moxie
"Two targets down and one elimination, I need to pick it up." Moxie thought to himself, bouncing away from the students to get some distance, "I need to pick someone who already has two targets lit up!"
The four-armed student rushed forward before her companions, thoroughly fed up.
"Sit still and fail already!"
"Glad to see someone volunteering!" Moxie met her head on. She grabbed his shoulder and went for the target on his collarbone, while he went for the target on her stomach.
This was it, both of them had two targets hit. Whoever was slower would be eliminated. Moxie had to be just the tiniest bit faster.
It came down to a split-second difference, he barely managed to hit her target before she hit his, eliminating her and passing the exam.
"D#mnit!" She shouted, fuming mad.
"Sorry! This exam's pretty cutthroat!" Moxie laughed, as all of his targets lit up blue, and a voice advised him to head for the waiting room, "Trust me, it was me or you!"
"Shut up." She growled, stomping off.
As Moxie made his way to the waiting room, he heard someone calling out to him from the stands.
"Hey! Runt! I see you down there!" Tenna shouted, standing up and waving her arms, "Did you pass?! Good job!"
"I told you not to call me runt! I'll come up there!" Moxie yelled back.
"Ooh, I'm quaking in my boots!" Tenna mocked.
Hiryu
"Seventy-six examinees have passed. The quota should be reached shortly." Mera announced.
"What the-?!" Hiryu was forced to take to the air as a mass of hair rushed towards her, tearing up the ground.
"I would like to establish good relations between Shiketsu and U.A., but…" A Shiketsu student covered in huge amounts of shaggy hair stepped forward, "…I'm afraid I'll be eliminating you now!"
"N-Now hang on!" Hiryu tried to shout.
"No." The student launched a mass of hair towards her, which Moxie dove to the side to avoid, freezing it as it passed before using her tail to shatter it.
"I can't afford to take you on, I've just got to get away and eliminate someone else first!" Hiryu prepped her Ultimate Move, only to be caught off guard by a wave of electricity which knocked her from the air, "Gahhh!"
The Shiketsu student acted quickly, then, catching Hiryu before she could hit the ground.
"Apologies, we may have gotten off on the wrong foot." He said, putting her down.
"Y-You think?!" Hiryu demanded, "W-Wait… why'd you catch me?"
"No time for that." He shook his head, as a number of students bore down on them.
"U.A. always steals the spotlight, but you Shiketsu kids are no better!" One of the students yelled, crackling with electricity, "We can't be Heroes while competing with the likes of you, so we'll just take you down."
"It seems we have a common enemy, now. My name is Nagamasa Mora." The student told her, "Like I said, I would like to build a good relationship between Shiketsu and U.A. Please, lend me your strength."
"I-I won't pretend like I'm the best fighter, but…" Hiryu clenched her fist, "I-I'm willing to help!"
Mora and Hiryu met the charging students head on, Hiryu laying down a thick fog with her Ultimate Move as Mora smashed through the ground, taking down many of the students, who were incapable of seeing his attacks to dodge them.
Moxie
"I wonder… who all has passed so far?" Moxie thought aloud, swinging open the door, spotting a familiar red- and white-haired student, "Ah, Todoroki! No surprise you've passed, but no Bakugo?"
"Not yet." Jiro spoke up before Todoroki could, "I was surprised too."
Tsuyu, Shoji and Yaoyorozu had also passed already, bringing the total up to six kids from U.A.
"Th-Thanks for your help…" Hiryu nodded to Mora as the two arrived.
"You don't need to keep thanking me." Mora told her.
"R-Right, sorry." Hiryu nodded.
"Hiryu! So you passed too, huh?" Kirishima asked, arriving right behind her with Kaminari, Bakugo, Midoriya, Uraraka and Sero.
"So, that brings us up to… thirteen." Todoroki nodded, "Which means there are eight left."
"The announcement said there were eighty-two who passed already… with only eighteen spots remaining…" Yaoyorozu spoke up, "I wonder if Iida's going to be okay…"
"With so many people left… can they make it?" Hiryu mumbled.
"Of course they can! You gotta believe in your classmates!" Kirishima grinned, giving her a thumbs up.
Then, eight more people passed, none of whom were from U.A., bringing it down to ten.
Class 1A struggled to find their opportunity, scattered about amongst all the chaos, until Aoyoma's navel laser fired into the sky, giving everyone a beacon. In the end, 1A managed to make a final push that got them all past the finish line.
The members of 1A who had already passed erupted into cheers as the final students, Iida and Aoyoma, snatched up the last two spots.
"We made it! Everybody passed!" Moxie cheered, bouncing out of his seat.
"Well then, to the one hundred of you who passed." Mera came over the loudspeaker, after the rest of the class arrived, "Please, take a look at the screen."
The screen showed a view of the battlefield which, before their very eyes, was littered with explosions that tore it apart, turning it into a disaster zone.
"What?! Why?!" Hiryu exclaimed.
"This will be the next and last stage for your exam! At this disaster site, we'll be having you all conduct rescue maneuvers." Mera explained, as a number of citizens appeared amongst the rubble.
"Oh, I see! We'll be doing rescue work, duh!" Moxie laughed.
And there it is! What'd you think?
Next time, the second part of the provisional exam begins.
Enigma, signing off.
