Chapter 30: The Invincible Mirio
Hey howdy hey hello, welcome to the show! Enigma's back with chapter thirty.
Nothing to really talk about, I guess. This is going up on Thanksgiving but whatever.
Enjoy!
Feel free to review, but don't just rip into me. I'm doing this for fun, not excessive criticism.
The class all changed into their gym uniforms and met with Mirio in Gym Gamma, ready for a fight.
"Um… are you serious?" Sero asked.
"Oh, I'm dead serious!" Mirio nodded, stretching.
"Mirio… you shouldn't do this. It would be more than enough for you to just formally tell them that 'it'll be valuable for you to be in this sort of condition'." Amajiki tried to reason, his head against the wall some distance away, "It's not as if they've all been full to capacity in trying to improve themselves, after all. No matter what, you must not make it so these kids aren't able to get back on their feet anymore."
"Ah! Hey, listen to this! Didja know? A while back there was a kid who got so frustrated, he completely gave up on being a Hero, and caused all sorts of problems! Didja know?!" Nejire spoke, messing with Ashido's horns.
"Wait just a moment… although we may have a handicap, we've got Pros fighting on our side as well." Tokoyami said.
"And we've got experience fighting Villains, too!" Kirishima added, "Am I to interpret you all worrying about us that much… as you seeing us as nothing but small fry?"
"Yep! Feel free to come at me from wherever and whenever you want! So, who's up first?!" Mirio grinned.
"I'll go-"
"I would like to go." Midoriya cut Kirishima off.
"Now that's a surprise, Midoriya!" Kirishima remarked.
"The problem child, eh? That's what I'm talking about! As I thought, you're full of energy!" Mirio gave a thumbs up.
"Our troops are gonna lay siege to you all at once!" Kirishima grinned, "Alright, senpai! In that case… we humbly ask for your guidance!"
The group prepared for combat, Midoriya leapt into the air and Moxie charged forward headfirst as Hiryu took to the air, flying above everyone else.
And then, Mirio's clothes fell off.
"Aaah!" Jiro screamed, covering her eyes, as Hiryu had a similar reaction, "Your clothes! They just fell off!"
"Ahh, please excuse me, it's difficult to fine-tune all the adjustments, you see!" Mirio said, pulling his pants back on.
"You're full…" Midoriya threw a kick towards Mirio's head.
"…of openings!" Moxie lashed out at Mirio's torso.
Both of them passed through Mirio without leaving a mark, each of them sliding to a halt behind him.
"You really don't hesitate, do you?" Mirio asked, as more attacks passed through him.
"He's gone!" Iida gasped, as the smoke cleared, revealing an empty spot where Mirio had been.
"I suppose I should start with the long-range ones, eh?!" Mirio shouted, popping up behind Jiro naked, startling the poor girl.
"He teleported!" Kirishima yelled, spinning around, "So it's more than just slipping through things?! Just how strong is this dude's Quirk?!"
In an instant, Mirio had taken down the long-range fighters.
"He took down half of us in the blink of any eye!" Todoroki gasped, "It makes sense that he's the closest to being the top Hero…"
"Not gonna try your own luck? There's no way you're not interested in being number one." Aizawa pointed out.
"But I didn't even get my provisional license…" Todoroki pointed out.
"Looks like just the melee fighters are left." Mirio commented, staring down the remaining group, "Which of you is next?"
"Allow me!" Moxie shouted, leaping in to attack, though his foot passed straight through Mirio's torso.
"I've got no freaking clue what just happened! Going up against the power to phase through stuff is tough to deal with on its own, but warping too?! That's too much, man! This dude's invincible!" Kaminari yelled as Mirio landed a solid blow to Moxie's stomach, "Cut us some slack!"
Moxie cried out in pain and collapsed, hitting the ground.
"There must be some sort of trick to it! The warping must be a function of the phasing, or the other way around. Either way, he's a melee fighter himself, so if we try to counter when he attacks, there should be a moment when we can touch him!" Midoriya told everyone, "Since we can't figure out what's going on, we ought to take a step back and form a hypothesis. We gotta search for a way to win against him!"
"Ooh! Good tip! Post lockdown Midoriya is really on point!" Kirishima remarked.
"Search all you like!" Mirio shouted, slipping into the floor.
Mirio swiftly popped up behind Midoriya. The boy immediately spun around, lashing out with a powerful kick.
"Have a taste of one of my Ultimate Moves! Blinder Touch Eyeball Crush!" Mirio reached towards Midoriya's eyes, causing the boy to flinch, and quickly flipped around, taking the boy out with a lightning fast blow to the solar plexus.
"Most of my opponents come up with a scheme to counter it, like that one. So naturally I've trained myself to counter those counters!" Mirio grinned.
"Midoriya?!" Iida shouted, as Mirio popped up behind him.
In a flash, Mirio had taken down half of the remaining fighters.
"I-I can't see an opening!" Hiryu shouted, still flying above the others, "He's just too fast!"
Mirio slipped out of the ground and rocketed up to Hiryu, hitting her in the stomach before she could react. He caught her and landed on the ground again, putting her down gently before slipping into the ground again.
"Power!" Mirio roared, posing dramatically as the rest of the class collapsed from his attacks, "Looks like that's everyone!"
A Short Time Later
"I just barely managed to keep my privates hidden for you ladies' sake." Mirio laughed, "And, well, you get the idea!"
"Feels like all you did was punch us in the gut." The class groaned.
"Think my Quirk is strong?" Mirio asked.
"Way too strong!" Sero shouted.
"And totally unfair from where I'm standing!" Ashido yelled, "You can phase and warp? What are you, some kinda hybrid like Todoroki?!"
"Hey!"
"Oh, oh, can I say your Quirk? Can I? Can I? It's Permeation!" Nejire bounced happily, holding her hand in the air.
"Nejire, this is Mirio's time to shine." Amajiki sighed, not facing the group.
"Nope, I've just got the one Quirk! Like you guessed, what you guys called 'warping' is another function of it!" Mirio explained, giving a quick 'sorry' to the slightly miffed Nejire.
"What's the principle behind your warping?" Midoriya asked, pretending to write on his hand.
"When I activate my Quirk across my whole body, I pass through anything and everything! That includes the ground itself!" Mirio tapped his foot on the ground.
"Oh… so then… it's like you were just falling!" Ururaka realized.
"Yep! Falling straight through the earth! But when I deactivate my Quirk underground, something amazing happens. Multiple objects can't occupy the same space at once, so one of them gets repelled." Mirio explained, "That means I get launched out instantaneously! That's the secret behind my warping. I can control the angle via my orientation and pose, so I basically choose where I get shot out!"
"Sounds like a buggy videogame." Ashido pouted.
"You could say that!" Mirio laughed.
"Attacks pass right through you. And you can change position instantly. Guess it's a strong Quirk after all." Asui commented.
"Not quite, more like… I made it into a strong Quirk. When it's active, my lungs can't absorb oxygen. Because even when is breathe, the air just passes through. Similarly, my eardrums can't pick up vibrations, and my eyes can't absorb light." Mirio explained, "It all just passes through me, and I can't feel anything at all. That said, my body still has mass, so all I have is this sensation of falling endlessly. See what I'm saying? Think about trying to pass through a single wall."
"I have to activate it over my whole body except one leg. Then release it on the other leg and touch down. And finally activate it on the first leg to pass all the way through. So even a simple act like that has a whole bunch of small steps involved."
"If I was in a rush I'd mess that up really quickly." Kaminari admitted.
"I used to take my sweet time, just to be safe! I'd hold back until the last second and end up falling anyway. Then my clothes would fall off." Mirio continued, "But time was the one thing I didn't have if I wanted to make it to the top with my Quirk! I had to predict faster than my surroundings could change! Foresight was essential if I wanted to 'trick' time itself! And experience was the only way to get good at predicating! Experience fosters that sort of mental ability!"
"I've taken up a lot of your time, but this is why we had to fight! Because experience teaches more than words ever could! During our work studies, we weren't just guests, but genuine sidekicks! We were treated like Pros! And let me tell you, it was terrifying. We dealt with life-and-death situations! But scary or not, painful or not, it was the sort of top-notch experience you can't get from school alone. I turned my work-study experience into power that's allowing me to reach for the stars! Which is why, even if you're scared, I wholeheartedly recommend it to you first-years!"
"He even talks like a Pro." Ojiro commented, politely applauding alongside Yaoyorozu.
"'Guests', huh? It did feel that way during our internships." Kaminari realized.
"They never let us try anything dangerous." Jiro nodded.
"Time to head back." Aizawa told the class.
"Hey! Why'd we even come to this? You got any idea?" Nejire asked.
"Be grateful to Mirio that we got to just sit back." Amajiki responded, as the Big Three left the gym.
"Thank you very much!" Class 1-A called after them.
And there it is! What did you think?
I had fun with this chapter, it was an easy one. Next time, Moxie and Hiryu get into their Work Studies, so look forward to that.
Enigma, signing off.
