Chapter two

"This is a bad idea, we shouldn't be doing this!" Meadowkit hissed quietly, squirming uncomfortably next to Bisonkit. They were crouched in the roots that made up the leader's den, eavesdropping on the conversation, and his paws were beginning to ache from standing there.

"This is a really bad idea!" He repeated.

"Just be quiet!" Bisonkit whispered, placing her tail over the fidgeting tom's mouth. Meadowkit opened his maw to retort, but Bisonkit ignored him, her ears pricked as she listened carefully. He huffed angrily, and pricked his ears, following Bisonkit's example.

"What could you possibly bring to ShadowClan that we don't already have?" Foxstar's voice traveled out of the den.

"More prey, new battle moves, another fierce fighter to protect your clan," Darkriver started listing things, drifting off.

"You... have a good point." Meadowkit could hear an audible frown in Foxstar's voice.

"I recommend he proves his worth." Dawnlight piped in.

"Very well." Foxstar paused, "You will enter a trial period. You will hunt under close watch, you will not eat till the clan is fed and you will also take care of our elders. Finally at the end of the trial, if you make it, you will duel one of my warriors so I may assess your skills. If you succeed, then and only then will you join my clan." Foxstar conceded.

Meadowkit crouched back in the bush, flattening his ears and tensing his muscles as the three cats padded out of the den. Dawnlight paused, angling his ears towards the bush. Meadowkit held his breath as the deputy leaned close, peering into the bush.

"Dawnlight!" Foxstar called.

The fiery deputy shot up, "Coming!" He called back and hurried away, forgetting the bush.

Meadowkit sighed a breath of relief and relaxed his muscles.

"Did you hear that?" Bisonkit jumped out of the bush after the three had passed, "Foxstar is letting him stay!"

"Kind of," Meadowkit got up more slowly, and groomed his fur back in place.

"Now I can ask him more questions!" Bisonkit squirmed giddily.

Meadowkit stopped abruptly as a yowl rang through the camp, "All cats old enough to lurk in the shadows gather around the shade rock for a clan meeting!"

The cream tabby looked up to see Foxstar standing stone that was known as the meeting rock, or the shade rock.

"We have a rogue who will be going about a trial period to see if he's worthy of this clan." Foxstar gestured to the blue and orange tabby with a flick of his tail, "Please treat him like a fellow clanmate."

All eyes turned to Darkriver, most disapproving and hostile.

"Why didn't faith get a trial period?" A creamy tabby she called from the crowd. Meadowkit shook his head embarrassed.

"Mom, what am I going to do with you?" He muttered under his breath.

His mother, Daisyshriek, had recently brought in a rogue named Faith just before Meadowkit was born.

"That is all, clan dismissed." Foxstar flicked an ear, ignoring the she-cat and leaping off the rock.

Bisonkit turned to Meadowkit, her eyes full of excitement, "C'mon! Let's go talk to him!"

"Nope! I will not partake in your stupid ideas any longer!" Meadowkit plopped down.

"You must be angry, you're using sophisticated words, very scary!" Bisonkit teased.

Meadowkit didn't answer as Bisonkit grabbed his tail in her mouth and dragged him along. Bisonkit suddenly let go, and Meadowkit stayed with his back to her, a defiant expression etched on his face.

"Will you answer my questions now?" Meadowkit could hear Bisonkit ask Darkriver,

"Don't you think he should answer my questions, Meadowkit?"

Meadowkit ignored her, huffing.

" Meadowkit. " Meadowkit felt a sharp pain in his side and he turned.

" Mhm!" He grunted loudly.

"See! Meadowkit agrees with me." Bisonkit mewed pointedly.

Darkriver paused before meowing thoughtfully, "Alright, but only one question."

"Just one?" Bison Kit whined.

"How about one each?" Darkriver suggested.

"Alright!" Bisonkit scrunched up her face in thought.

"Are you asking a question or making dirt?" Meadowkit snorted.

"Haha, funny." Bisonkit shot a glare at him, "I think I'm ready to ask my question."

"Go ahead." Darkriver meowed smoothly.

"Where'd you come from?" Bisonkit asked.

"I come from beyond the territories, in a place I like to call No-Cat's Land." Darkriver replied.

"What's it like?" Bisonkit asked excitedly.

"Only one question." Darkriver teased.

Bisonkit groaned and turned to Meadowkit with pleading eyes.

"Well, I guess I have to ask a question now." Meadowkit glanced at Bisonkit before looking at his paws, deep in thought.

He looked back up, "Why do you look so much like Bisonkit?" He finally mewed.

Both Bisonkit and Darkriver looked surprised, as if just now realizing their similarities. Meadowkit had noticed from the beginning. The way they walked, their blazing amber eyes, their broad, tall bodies.

"Let me show you where you'll be sleeping." A pale brown and gold speckled she-cat padded over, waving her tail at Darkriver.

"But he hasn't finished answering our questions, Dustblossom!" Bisonkit protested.

"Too bad." She answered coldy.

Bisonkit bristled, but Meadowkit stepped on her tail again, urging her to keep quiet.

What a toad brain. He thought.

"Stop it! Get off!" Bisonkit hissed, her eyes full of pain.

Meadowkit pulled his paw away quickly, surprised by Bisonkit's painful look.

"Sorry." He muttered.

"Now, Darkriver come." Dustblossom turned her gaze to the blue and ginger tom and led him away.

Meadowkit watched the two pad away sourly. Even if he had kept Bisonkit from talking back, he had still wanted his question answered.

"That was pointless! We never got any real answers." Bisonkit complained.

Meadowkit turned to her and shrugged, "We know where he came from."

"That's not useful!" Bisonkit stared at her paws angrily.

"You never know, he could be… dangerous." Meadowkit crouched down. He slowly crept toward Bisonkit, then pounced on tom of her. Her face went from angry to playful in seconds, and they tumbled together. Across camp, knocking into hissing cats, and ending infront of the nursery.

"Would you two cut it out?" Daisyshriek interjected and the kits pulled apart.

"Sorry, Mom." Meadowkit looked up.

Daisyshriek sighed and before she could say anything, Icekit and Firekit padded out of the nursery. Their eyes were still blury from sleep and their fur stuck out every which way.

"What's happening now?" Icekit asked.

"Did Bisonkit crush Blossomkit again?" Firekit glanced at Bisonkit wearily and looked for Blossomkit, who was watching with peircing green eyes from across camp.

Bisonkit ignored them and bounced around, "You missed it! Some new cat came, and he's staying with us! Isn't that exciting?"

"That's wonderful." Firekit said sarcastically, "I'm surprised you didn't scare him away, Bisonkit."

Meadowkit glared at him, "I'm surprised you know how to be sarcastic with that brain of yours." He retorted, "It's the size of a mouse's."

Firekit shot Meadowkit a smoldering glare.

"Meadowkit, that wasn't very nice." Daisyshriek scolded.

"Oh, so Firekit can say bad things about Bisonkit, but when I defend her, I get in trouble?" Meadowkit turned on her, his anger building up, "What a great mother you are."

He plodded into the nursery, anger like heat waves emanating from his pelt. He didn't need her anyways.

Chapter two is here! I keep forgetting to add and delete things— I'm so stupid— but I hope you like it.
