Chapter 24
Zero could already feel his nervousness growing just at the thought of what would occur. He felt his face heat up when Kaname gave him a particularly warm smile earlier this afternoon, during the time of their patrol, and he couldn't help but acknowledge the pureblood by tipping his head toward the other's direction. Kaname gave him a silent signal then.
The pureblood wanted to meet with him.
And now, he could feel his cold clammy hands from his pocket as he walked to the forested area of the school. The sky was dark and the winter night felt very cold to his skin. He just finished his dinner and he told Yuzuru and Yuuki that he might not be able to perform his prefect duty tonight. It was due to the fact that he had to meet a certain brunette in this very forest right now.
He suddenly stopped walking and scowled when he felt Kaname's presence in the vicinity just before he felt warm arms circle his waist from behind. "Kaname, don't do that."
A light chuckle rang just beside his ears and the sound sent delightful shivers to his very spine, no matter how much he tried to deny them. "Did I startle you?"
And Zero scowled even more. "What do you think?"
"Oh, so I did." Kaname continued chuckling as he kissed the hunter's nape, much to the latter's surprise and unwilling delight. "Are you going to tell me your answer now?" The pureblood asked, though he was sure even Zero could hear the fast beating of his heart as well as the barely veiled fear in the air. He's scared to know the answer… He's scared… because Zero was everything to him now…
Zero couldn't help but sigh at Kaname's suffocating fear. "Kaname, stop that." He sighed again after a while when he realized that all the brunette did was hide his fear, but it didn't lessen, if the hands that held him tighter were any indication. The hunter tried his best to relax in the embrace. He leaned his back on Kaname's chest and his head at the crook of the brunette's neck. The pureblood seemed to like it because Kaname shivered slightly and Zero couldn't help but chuckle. "You're too nervous."
"I know." Kaname said as he hugged the hunter even tighter. "…I'm afraid." The hunter smiled warmly. For Kaname to voice it out loud meant that he trusted Zero enough to reveal his weaknesses to the teen. It made him feel warm…
"…Idiot, I accept it." He voiced quietly as he pulled himself away from the brunette in order to face him. The first thing he saw was the pureblood's confused expression. "I accept it, being your mate… for eternity." He elaborated with a scowl since it was too embarrassing to say. And Kaname's face suddenly turned from confusion to deep surprise to confusion again before it turned into barely contained joy and excitement in mere seconds.
Kaname stared at Zero, eyes wide and mouth gaping a little, unable to ask if he heard right since he might have heard wrong and he didn't want to feel disappointed. But the voice the hunter spoke with was full of clarity and confidence that he knew he wasn't just hearing things.
Zero watched in silent amusement as Kaname tried to contain himself by acting calm after what he heard. But the delight and excitement was showing on his features and Zero had never seen Kaname this gorgeous – grinning like a child while blushing in happiness.
"I love you, Zero." Kaname said when he recovered a little, before he hugged the hunter tightly. "I love you, I love you. Thank you so much…" He voiced before he kissed the surprised Zero full in the mouth. The hunter's eyes widened and this time it was his turn to turn red. But Kaname didn't stop there. He continued giving the hunter chaste kisses on the cheeks, forehead, nose, neck, jaw, and other parts of Zero that he could reach while hugging him.
"Idiot, s-stop that!" Zero hissed when he recovered and felt that Kaname was already harassing him. He tried his best to stay calm despite the prominent blush on his cheeks.
Kaname chuckled and stopped but he didn't let go of Zero. "I don't want to spoil the mood, but are you sure, Zero?" He hugged the hunter tighter while he waited for the answer, and even tighter when he felt Zero nod. "We will not crave anyone else's blood anymore, just each other's… But the tablets can still do since they can't be considered anyone else's." Zero nodded again, and now Kaname felt surer than ever that Zero would finally be his.
Finally be his… Zero would finally be his… The words sent shivers of extreme delight and smugness in his aura and he couldn't help but grin smugly while he hugged the hunter.
"Shall we do it now? The bonding contract, I mean." Kaname asked as he let go of the hunter a little. "Or..?" But he wasn't able to continue what he was about to ask when he saw the determined gaze that Zero directed at him. "Alright." And he held Zero's hand before they sprinted towards the Moon Dorm in vampire speed. They both ended up in Kaname's room in mere seconds after they left their earlier spot in the forest.
Kaname immediately locked the door with his mind before he looked at Zero and guided the teen towards the main bedroom. The hunter looked at him suspiciously but he just gave the teen an awfully innocent smile. "Are you scared I will do something to you now of all times?" Zero growled in reply but he nevertheless blushed in embarrassment before he followed wordlessly.
They both knelt on the bed as they faced each other. Zero was doing everything Kaname did and he let himself be guided by the brunette without any exchange of words. He was getting embarrassed about the unfolding events but he nevertheless trusted the brunette enough to do everything he was asked of. The pureblood held both of the hunter's hands in front of them and bended their elbows before they rested their intertwined fingers in front of their chests.
"Repeat after me, Zero. After the oath, we will drink each other's blood." Kaname voiced and Zero only nodded.
I, a half being, wish to be whole by being one with you. I, who cannot live alone, will live because and for you alone. I promise to be with you for the rest of my days and to give my all – my heart, my mind, my soul, my body – to you and only you. I will give my blood to you alone… and drink your blood alone. These I promise to you for as long as I live.
This vow symbolizes the oath that I will fulfill for the rest of my life. This unbreakable bond will serve as my guidance. This oath symbolizes our trust, loyalty, and faith to one another.
And I will let you be my other half, my lover, my blood mate, for the rest of eternity…
By the end of the oath, Zero was already red due to the embarrassing lines. Kaname chuckled at him before they both readied themselves to bite and be bitten at the same time.
Kaname was the first to lean over to him, eyes slowly closing while inhaling the sweet scent of his blood, before he kissed Zero's neck so passionately. This earned the brunette a series of groans from the hunter. The silver-haired teen himself was a little too intoxicated by the scent of Kaname's blood even though he just drank from him last night. He tried to lick the pureblood's neck while trying to ignore the pleasurable sensation of the other's lips on his flushed skin.
Kaname's eyes were already glowing crimsons when he next opened them. He gave one last lick on creamy neck before he opened his mouth and slowly sank his fangs in tender flesh. The actions earned a groan from deep down his throat and a moan from the hunter. And he couldn't help but groan as well when Zero's aroused fangs sank in his creamy neck.
The pleasure was immense for both of them and both seemed to have lost all sorts of rationality for a while, trusting only their vampire instincts and the pleasure that was making them and yet ironically also stopping them from blacking out.
Kaname was the first to withdraw, having felt the need to stop lest he wanted to drain Zero. The hunter himself stopped after some seconds too, but they remained in their intimate position for a while. Zero was quietly panting as he was leaning on the brunette's neck – still a little dazed from the pleasure of blood sharing and also embarrassed – while Kaname was enjoying the warmth of the bond they now shared as well as the warmth of the hunter himself.
"Are you alright?" Kaname asked after a while. He couldn't help but smirk knowingly afterwards. "Or rather, was it too much of a pleasure for you?" He almost, almost, yelped in surprise when Zero suddenly bit his shoulder hard in revenge for the rhetorical question. Of course, the hunter didn't use his fangs when he did that so it was a bit of a turn on to Kaname as well.
"Don't provoke me, Zero." He voiced in a husky tone after he laughed at the hunter's choice of revenge.
"You really are a pervert." The hunter grumbled quietly before he pulled away slightly to glare at Kaname's smug expression.
"Anyway," Kaname voiced after he managed to calm the hunter down. "Would you like to sleep here tonight?" It was a question, but it was also a plea on its own. Zero couldn't help but sigh at that. He nodded despite the fact that he felt his cheeks colored.
Kaname grinned before he lurched forward and hugged Zero, effectively making the hunter lose his balance and fall on the bed. The pureblood used that opportunity to trap the teen by falling directly on top of him. "Y-You idiot!" Zero voiced out but he didn't push the pureblood away, much to Kaname's silent surprise and amusement.
The pureblood hugged the hunter tightly as he kissed Zero on the lips once more. "Good night, Zero."
Zero glared weakly at the pureblood for choosing that position for sleeping. But he nevertheless sighed as he nodded. "Good night." And Kaname laid his left cheek on the hunter's chest before he savored the other's scent. That scent which aroused him to the extreme was also the same scent that lulled him to sleep now. Talk about ironic…
Zero stared at the ceiling as he felt Kaname snore quietly. Even now, he still couldn't believe the obnoxious pureblood would sleep so easily in the presence of another like that. He could be really… adorable sometimes… The hunter couldn't help but smile at the thought as he played with the other's brunette locks. "I…" …love you, Kaname…
The snow was falling idly as he stared at the dark sky. His small hands tried to capture some of those seemingly beautiful flakes but he couldn't, for they immediately turned into water the moment he caught them.
It wasn't normal, he knew, especially if they were also turning into water even if he didn't touch them, just as long as they were near to him. He knew the snowfall last year wasn't like that at all. And because of that, he found it truly bizarre.
He wanted to tell Ichiru about it but he feared his brother might also stay outside wanting to experience the same phenomenon for himself.
Not far from him, he could see some children playing snowballs and throwing the things at one another. He hadn't played that game with anyone other than Ichiru yet and he knew he wasn't supposed to.
His father kept on telling him that their family was different from all the other kids. They were different even from the other hunter kids. It's because they were vampires. He knew that and he couldn't help but gaze at the kids with silent longing. How he wanted to play with them too.
His senses heightened at the fact that a stray snowball was heading right at his direction. He instinctively stepped backward but the ball dissolved into water when he did that. He stared at the thing with shock for a moment as it fell on the ground, not touching him at all. He saw how the water seemed to be boiling on the snow-filled ground even though it was in the middle of winter. He tried to touch it but he yelped when the water burst into fire. He was frightened and he couldn't help but run away from the scene.
He needed to tell his father about it, and soon.
"Zero."
Zero snapped his eyes open as his breath hitched and he came face to face with Kaname. The pureblood was obviously the one who called his name earlier. Those chocolate orbs seemed really worried and he didn't know why. It wasn't unusual for him to have nightmare and he was sure it wasn't unusual for Kaname to see him like that too. "Kaname…" He managed to voice out before he found himself in a very suffocating hug.
"…I thought it was just my imagination…" Kaname's voice said and he couldn't help but wonder what the other was talking about.
The hunter looked around the room and saw that everything was dark because the curtains were drawn, though he instinctively knew it was already morning outside. He also noticed that he wasn't in his own room. Actually, he was in Kaname's room while the pureblood was on top of him, busy in giving him a suffocating hug so early in the morning. He then remembered the events of last night. He couldn't help but sigh. "I'm fine, Kaname… And if you think last night was just your imagination, then I must have been imagining things as well."
And right after he said that, Kaname pulled away to face him while wearing a very serious expression. "…I wasn't talking about that, Zero."
Zero blinked at him in confusion. "Then what are you talking about..?"
Kaname sat on the bedside and Zero saw that the brunette was already dressed, meaning he'd already taken a shower and changed clothes. He felt embarrassed at the fact that he hadn't even gurgled water in his mouth for his morning breath. Kaname sighed as he gazed at Zero. "Zero… I… I already know about it. It's not just my imagination then."
"Like I said, what do you mean?" Zero asked, feeling a little nervous at the pureblood's tone. He didn't like it and, somehow, he feared what Kaname would be telling him next.
"…I know about your sealed power." Kaname voiced quietly. Zero was unable to comprehend what the pureblood meant at first. But his eyes widened when everything seemed to have dawned to him.
So… Kaname knew about it… "…Did Aido tell you after all? Or was it…" Zero knew he'd be hurt by this, but he wanted to know anyway. "…was it from your little investigation?"
"…The latter." Kaname sighed. "I didn't mean to hide it from you, Zero. I just didn't want to pressure Chairman Cross into telling you everything even though he isn't ready yet."
Zero clenched his fists in frustration. He wasn't angry at Kaname because he knew the pureblood would have told him everything already if it weren't for Cross. But he still couldn't believe that they knew about it all along. It was such a frustrating situation and he was angry at himself for not knowing it… he and his fucked up memory…
He was driven out of his musings when he felt Kaname's cold hands on his cheeks. "I'm sorry, Zero. I didn't mean to hurt you." The voice was so quiet Zero could barely hear it. But he still appreciated the apology even though it wasn't the brunette's fault.
He couldn't help but sigh when he calmed down a little. "And what made you decide to tell me now?"
At that, Kaname averted his gaze before he spoke. "Actually, I kind of felt it the other night when I bit you while you're sick. And also last night when we shared blood." The brunette sighed before he looked at Zero again. Despite the fact that he didn't want to see Zero's eyes full of hurt, he still wanted to know how the teen would react so he would know what to do. "I felt that there was something new in your blood. It was a burning feeling that wasn't there before. And don't get me wrong. It wasn't awful. It actually made your blood even more desirable than before." The pureblood voiced as he stared at amethyst eyes.
Zero equally stared at chocolate orbs without batting an eyelid for a while. And he could see that Kaname was telling the truth. He kind of had the assumption where the discussion would lead, but he still wanted to confirm it with his own ears. "Are you sure it became more desirable?"
Kaname smiled as he nodded with confidence. "I'm very sure." He knew that Zero was doing that to lighten the mood, but he still couldn't help but lick his lips in the process. It earned him a glare from the hunter but he didn't mind, as long as Zero wasn't looking so hurt. "And…" He continued. "I kind of figured that something might have really happened during your mission. I originally wanted to ask Aido about it, but I realized I didn't have to. When I tasted your blood last night, it was there again. But it was different from the other night too. It's seems to be trying to get out of your system through your blood since it has no outlet."
"That… power, you mean." Zero was a little hesitant to voice out the word but he knew he had to. Kaname nodded to him again.
The pureblood spoke again. "Even then, I had no intention to tell you. I thought you'd figure it out on your own sometime soon anyway."
"But?" Zero asked. Obviously that was where things would lead.
"As impatient as always." Kaname chuckled lightly, though it wasn't the usual one. He was clearly worried. "Earlier, I woke up first and I went to shower, even though I wanted to shower with you…" Zero's eyes widened at that, preventing himself from blushing at the prospect of bathing together with the pureblood. "And when I came out of the bathroom, I saw you… you're obviously having a dream, but more than that, you… your whole body was burning."
And Zero's eyes widened for a different reason this time. He opened his mouth to talk, but nothing came out so he just closed them again. Kaname seemed to have realized his shock and immediately comforted him by kissing him gently.
"It's okay, Zero…" Kaname's voice was soothing and gentle as he hugged the teen, and Zero couldn't help but listen. "It's okay… I won't leave you no matter what happens… And since I'm your mate, your power will never hurt me."
Zero returned the hug as he closed his eyes. "…I'm… afraid of it, Kaname… I don't like it… I don't want it… I might hurt the others…"
"Zero, I'm sure, if you learn to accept and control it, it won't hurt anyone." Kaname's voice remained soothing. "I was surprised when I saw you earlier. But I was glad the bed and the clothes you're wearing didn't burn. Do you know what that means?" Zero looked at him but shook his head, making Kaname chuckle. "It means that even if you're not conscious, the things you don't think of burning won't burn. It means that you're… starting to have a grasp on how to control it, even if unconsciously."
"I… I still don't like it…" Zero mumbled quietly. Kaname thought he was like a child just now, but he couldn't bring himself to laugh. He only hugged Zero again for the latter's cuteness.
"I love you, Zero." Kaname voiced with clarity and confidence. "I love you enough to love all of you, even your weaknesses. And I'm sure that this power isn't even a weakness. It's part of who you are, Zero. No matter what happens, that won't change."
"…You truly are… Aido's master." Zero sighed as he smiled a tad. "He also told me the same thing." And he was actually a lot surprised when he felt Kaname's murderous aura. "Kaname..?"
"Aido…" Kaname smiled at him, but Zero felt his whole body freeze from the coldness of it. "Aido told you that he loves you as well? And you looked so happy there, Zero."
"Hah!?" Zero blurted out in exasperation. "And here I thought–, Ugh, never mind. Aido didn't tell me that, idiot! Don't go concluding things like that so suddenly! I just meant that you both told me this 'thing' is part of who I am."
"Well, actually, that's just common sense, Hunter-san." Kaname said, still acting suspicious about earlier. Zero just had to sigh.
"Whatever. Just don't go punishing Aido for your assumptions." He glared at the pureblood, especially when Kaname smiled so innocently it was so suspicious.
"Anyway, Zero." Kaname said after a while. "If you want, I can help you on how to control it – give you advices among other things. Or if you want, I can ask Kain to do it, since he also controls the same element."
"I… I'll think about it." Zero mumbled before he got up. "Can I use your bathroom?"
Kaname smiled so sweetly Zero glared at him again. The hunter knew the perverted things running in the pureblood's mind and he didn't want to know any of it. "What? I haven't said anything yet."
"I know you were about to." Zero said as he walked towards the bathroom, not even waiting for permission anymore.
"…I was just about to ask if you need some helping hand since you're in a foreign bathroom." Kaname voiced before he chuckled out loud when the door of the bathroom slammed at him. "…I was being serious here, you know." He added quietly as his eyes gleamed dangerously.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Zero looked up at the sky and saw them, the small white flakes starting to fall in idleness. "It's… snowing…" It was kind of… special for him. He liked the first fall of snow ever since he was a child and he never ceased to like it even now. He hoped something good would happen.
"Yup, perfect time to be cuddling in bed together with Yuu–"
"Stop. I don't want to hear it." Zero immediately cut Yuzuru off as he glared at the other male. He didn't want to know the love life of other people, not to mention their sex life. Forget about something good happening, just Yuzuru not talking about his sex life with Yuuki was enough for him.
"Ehh?!" Yuzuru was acting childish again and he knew that it would last until he saw Yuuki again. Zero sighed as he started walking on his own without waiting for the older male. They needed to patrol the place and he didn't want to slack off even if the warmth of his bed felt really inviting. It felt so cold…
It's been three days since he became Kaname's mate and he was starting to think that maybe being a mate wasn't so bad anyway. He had yet to see Kaname since that morning and he had yet to drink from him either. That goes for Kaname as well… Knowing the pureblood, he should be controlling his thirst for now and doing well with the pills. How he wished he could take those pills when necessary either… But now that he'd tasted Kaname's blood and was kind of used to it, his stomach couldn't even take the smell of the pills anymore.
He sighed at the thought of that and his breath formed a fog in front of him from the coldness. They were wearing thick clothes right now since it was colder at night but that didn't help reduce the coldness that they felt at all.
"Should we read some porn magazine while we're patrolling just so we'll stay warm?" Yuzuru thought aloud and Zero wanted to punch him hard. Before he could do so, however, he smirked at the fact that someone else already did.
"How faithful of you, Yuzuru-san." Yuuki smiled dangerously at her lover. It seemed she heard his earlier outburst.
"N-No, Yuuki-chan! That was just a joke!" He tried to calm her down as he stepped backwards. "Hey, Zero! Tell her it was the truth!"
Zero only chuckled at the fact that Yuuki was somehow similar to Kaname. Oh, now that he thought about it… He missed Kaname… And even as he saw Yuuki beat Yuzuru up because of some porn magazine issue, he couldn't help but just stand there and do nothing at all. His mind kept on getting back to the perverted brunette whom he hadn't seen for three days now. He knew he wasn't supposed to be thinking too much about Kaname, but he couldn't stop it. He would sometimes snap out of it and find himself thinking of Kaname while staring into nothingness. He knew he wasn't this obsessed before. Was it the result of the bond..? Now he wondered how Kaname must be feeling, if it really was because of the bond.
"We're finished, right?" Zero asked his companions as he looked at how Yuuki nodded, in her hands were the collars of an out cold Yuzuru. He just looked at it as if everything was an everyday occurrence before he decided to return to the dorm now. Yuuki walked with him on the way, dragging Yuzuru without any care.
"He was really just joking, you know." Zero said after a while of silence.
Yuuki sighed. "I know." She pouted then. "I just… don't want him to… see some females with perfect figures… since I don't have one."
"I like you just the way you are, Yuuki-chan. You're not comparable to anyone." Yuzuru's voice made them both turn at the supposedly unconscious male. But they saw him looking at Yuuki with utter seriousness. Yuuki couldn't help but blush as she let go of his collar. Yuzuru stood up and put his arms around her shoulder as they continued walking. And even now, Zero acted like it was everyday occurrence.
"Ne, Zero-kun, how are you and nii-sama?" Yuuki asked all of a sudden and Zero turned to her direction so sharply the lovers thought he'd snapped his neck.
"W-What?" Zero cursed inwardly at his inability to remain calm in these kinds of situations.
"Don't tell me you already said yes to that idiot?" Yuzuru immediately blurted out, earning a not-so-gentle jab on the side, courtesy of one pissed off Yuuki. She didn't like it when her nii-sama would be labeled as idiot.
Zero thought about it for a while. He did say yes to the proposal of being Kaname's mate. But it was also true that he had yet to say anything about Kaname's feelings for him. Most likely, the latter was what Yuzuru was asking. "No, I haven't yet." Zero answered offhandedly, before his eyes widened and his ears turned completely red. He was just glad he was walking ahead of them. "I-I'm going ahead." And he disappeared from the forested area after that, not even bothering to wait for his two companions' answer.
"Ne, Yuzuru-san, he said 'yet'." Yuuki said as she stared at the spot where Zero disappeared from.
Yuzuru growled at that. "…Yes, he did."
And Yuuki sighed for the nth time about the topic already. "Just let them be happy, Yuzuru-san. What you feel right now are the feelings that nii-sama feels about our relationship too, you know. But he managed to let us be together. Just… let them be." Yuzuru pouted at that, but he still didn't argue about it anymore.
Zero, in the meantime, was already in his room. He came from the open window. He just closed the window when he remembered how he didn't open it when he left for patrol earlier this evening. His eyes narrowed before he spoke. "Kaname."
The sudden intense bloodlust in the air made him gulp in nervousness, but Zero still had the sanity to talk to the pureblood even if he couldn't see the other right now. "How about we go to your room instead? Yuzuru and Kaien-san will definitely worry if they–" And his eyes widened when he felt Kaname's arms around him as he was manhandled so easily. He saw how the brunette jumped so swiftly using the window, leaving it open again, and ran in vampire speed towards the Moon Dorm.
"Sorry…" Kaname managed to say when he finally put Zero down the bed.
Zero looked up at the brunette and saw that Kaname was slightly trembling from trying to gain control over his intense bloodlust. What the hell just happened to him..? The pureblood was panting hard and his mouth was a little open, his aroused fangs protruding from it. "It's okay. I was just surprised you didn't immediately go to me."
"…It was… so sudden…" Kaname answered with a lisp. "I didn't think the bond would affect me this much… I'm so thirsty for your blood…" He was already finding it hard to focus on Zero himself and not on the intoxicating scent of the hunter's blood.
Zero didn't need any more word as he immediately took off his upper body garment. It was cold, but he didn't care. He gulped as well when he saw Kaname gulp at the sight of him. He saw how those crimson eyes turned a little bit darker as they scanned his whole body. "Come here." The hunter voiced as he tried to fight his blush. And Kaname walked forward, as calm and gracious as the predator that he was.
"…You better… take off everything." Kaname said as he knelt on the bed in front of Zero. He's starting to lose his rationality and to say he was afraid of hurting the hunter was an understatement. He knew that Zero's guard was down right now, and it's making the monster inside of him scream in immediate excitement and ecstasy. He just hoped his instinct would know that he'd die if ever Zero got hurt because of him…
Zero's breath hitched when Kaname pushed him down the mattress. The brunette's hands explored his chest down to his abdomen, all the while giving him nips and kisses on the neck and shoulder. He didn't know what to do with his arms so he circled them around Kaname's neck. He could feel his hunter senses blaring in alarm inside him and he knew that Kaname was afraid of hurting him right now. But he trusted the pureblood enough to know that the brunette wouldn't hurt him.
"It's okay, Kaname… Ungh… Drink to your… unh… heart's content… I'll be fine…" He couldn't help but blush at his stuttering words due to the way Kaname kissed and lick his neck and shoulder, but he still made it clear to Kaname that he knew what he was doing.
He felt how Kaname's tongue lapped at his skin and he couldn't help but shiver in pleasure at the sensation. He knew that pleasure was needed to make the blood more delicious so he didn't mind at all, especially since the brunette seemed to be moving only on instinct now. "Kaname…" He voiced as he felt Kaname move down towards his chest. He didn't think too much about it at first, but his eyes widened when the brunette suddenly licked his nipple and nipped it. He moaned and grabbed Kaname's hair with both of his hands.
