Welp… I'm on it… especially now that the team has to move on without the poor guy… I know, sad, right? Better get to writing…
Chapter 12.
Captured.
The two coal colored foxes stopped dead in their tracks as they saw Sonic and Tails go back into the cave, where the two eventually found Kari Prower. The snow white colored fox had twisted her ankle while they were escaping the cave. At least, the ground had stopped shaking. Tails landed on the ground and tried helping his best friend get his aunt up on her feet without hurting her more. Sonic easily get the older fox into his arms carrying her. Just as Sonic got ready to make a run for it, the ground started shaking again. And where the ground had cracked, it suddenly opened up. Just as Tails got ready to lift off the ground, a chunk of rock from one of the cave walls flew directly towards the kid. Tails tried to act fast, but he was too late. For in that moment, the rock chunk hit him square in the chest. Tails immediately hit the ground head first, then he fell down into the chasm… and the most unfortunate thing of all was they the fact that not just Sonic, but everyone else had just witnessed the whole thing unfold before their eyes…
Sonic and the rest of his friends had just witnessed something they thought they would never have to ever see… they had watched Tails fall down right into a chasm. The kid had been struck in the chest by a piece of rock that had shattered from within the cave walls, of which, that was the reason why he fell down the chasm. Now, after seeing what happened to his sidekick… his best friend… his brother, Sonic couldn't believe it. Everyone else, with the exception of Amy, Knuckles and Sticks, were dumbfounded. Esmer had wanted to walk back into the cave where the ground had split and see if the abyss was bottomless or not, but Jerek told the mongoose no. The whole team knew that they had to move on if they were to stop the Regency's plans, and the virus. Sonic just looked at the chasm, he wasn't sad or angry… all he felt was… nothing. He didn't know why he felt that way, but at the same time, he didn't even want to hear anything more about the turn of events that had just took place. Amy walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder sympathetically.
"Do you think that he's, you know…"
Sonic just looked at her.
"I hope to Chaos, no."
Fara wondered the same thing that her female hedgehog friend thought. But as she felt the tears coming, Fara shook the thought from her mind. She didn't have the time to break down and start mourning Tails' apparent death. That was for later. She knew that if she did that, Sonic would just join her in weeping for the young fox. Chad came and placed a comforting hand on his wife's shoulder.
"We have to keep going babe… I know, but maybe…"
Fara felt the tears coming again.
"Stop… just stop," she said calmly.
Jerek, on the other hand, had the hunch that Tails was gone; like as in… dead. The older wolf knew that no one could ever survive falling right down into a chasm. Tauren, Esmer, Cody and Red just bowed their heads in respect for the fox cub. After what seemed like a good thirty minutes, the team soon had to move on. As they were leaving, Sonic looked back at the chasm in the cave one last time… hoping for the best.
'Tails, buddy, wherever you are… I know that you're safe.' Sonic thought.
An hour later…
After walking down a extremely long hillside, the group finally found themselves right outside the outskirts of the bio lab. Sonic, Amy, Knuckles and Sticks all smiled as they neared the base. Fara, her brother, Red, Tauren and Esmer just couldn't wait to infiltrate the base and help in taking out the bio lab. Soon enough, they approached what looked like two tall metal doors that were joined with a wall. Jerek quietly devised a plan just in case they got caught. After all, after witnessing Tails fall into the chasm, Jerek didn't want to risk having the rest of Team Sonic getting caught right beside them. Fara, Cody, Red, Tauren and Esmer all said that they understood what the oldet wolf was meaning. Sonic, Amy, Knuckles and Sticks were told to hide somewhere, just in case if things got ugly. Cody and Tauren turned the handles on the doors, but as soon as the doors opened, the one half suddenly found themselves standing right before an army of Regency mercenaries, weapons pointed right at them. And right between them was none other than Caden Andross.
'Nice plan Jerek,' Fara thought. 'At least they don't have Team Sonic.'
Whoa! Don't like that at all! What's gonna happen now? I mean, something's going to happen, am I right? That's for next time… God bless 'til then.
