Chapter Nine
Moona stood beside Iofi, watching the monitors. The experiment had gone better than they expected. She knew Pekora was a genius. She'd made her cure work on Inugami Korone and she'd also developed a serum to stop the process. Pekora, was constantly amazing her.
She was never one to give into emotion too quickly. Her wife, Iofi, always used to be so ecstatic and emotional, Moona would stand in the background admiring her strength.
When she met Usada Pekora, it had been an odd twist of fate. She simply walked into her office, threw down a case of cash and said, "I want MoonaTech and I want you to build me a facility for testing." And then with that cocky gleam she stated, "I am going to change the world."
Moona, didn't know how to take the sudden appearance.
"And if you don't, I'll make sure you never succeed in any endeavor again." She then leaned forward, "and I can make that happen."
Her cocky bravado both upset her, and caused instant admiration.
Moona watched Pekora suiting up on the monitors. Talking over coming to save her, thinking she'd been taken by the creatures or Iofi, or something. She was trying to be brave, and it made Moona smile to herself, that silly rabbit.
She had secretly been planting cameras everywhere while living underground with her Saichou, acting like she was escaping and trying to find a cure alongside.
She would glance at the one she had fallen in love with when she was young, Iofi. She wasn't the person she had fallen in love with anymore. The creatures from Hell Realm had changed her into something else.
But then, maybe Moona wasn't the same person who fell in love with Iofi. Spending time with Pekora made her feel differently. It was exciting. She was an exciting and different type of person; unlike anyone she'd ever met.
Could a person be in love with two people? She wondered that as she watched Iofi, and then looked up at the monitors at Pekora, that brilliant and unique bunny. She was actually thinking she had to come with Korone and rescue her, and despite the others wanting her to come and pay them a visit, she began to rethink such a thing. They might hurt her, and even for science that seemed like something she wasn't willing to have happen.
"Iofi?"
"Yes, babe?"
"What will happen to Saichou when she gets here?"
Iofi pat Moona on the cheek. "The world will be made right."
Moona nodded, pausing briefly. "Okay… my love."
Iofi, was an alien from another world, who came and was so innocent at first, but began to hear the voices of those locked beneath Holios. She was poisoned by their words, along with that crazy CEO of Comet Corporation.
Moona stood by her, hopeful the serum Pekora had created would finally work on releasing Iofi from the mind meld with the creatures underneath.
She didn't want to hurt Saichou, but knew she needed to use her right now for the benefit of her wife.

Korone led the two as they made their way down the corridor and were going to head deeper toward the center.
She suddenly stopped, perking her head upward. "Okayu?"
"What?"
"I sense Okayu."
"That's not possible – Peko." Pekora wondered how Okayu would have made it to MoonaTech. "Do you think it's just that you want to see her and so now you're sensing her – Peko?"
"No." Korone walked the opposite direction of where they needed to go.
"Whoa, Koro-chan, we need to head this way." Pekora was pointing down a dark corridor to the right.
"But…" Korone kept listening and sniffing the air, and her senses were more acute than they'd ever been. "I can hear her. She's in trouble."
"How could… you?" Peko looked over at the back elevator. "That seems impossible – Peko."
What had she created, Pekora wondered?
"I have to go. I have to go that way now."
She grabbed at Pekora's chest, grabbing at the Kevlar vest.
"Whoa!"
"I need that card now."
"But whoa," Pekora started laughing as she was feeling all over her clothing. "Please… I barely know you – Peko." She was unintentionally tickling her.
"Where's the card?" Korone growled, and Pekora instantly stiffened. Her bunny-girl heart racing in fear.
Korone suddenly pulled back realizing she was terrifying the bunny.
"I'm sorry, Chairman, I mean Pekora, I just… need to go up and check really quickly. We can come right back down. I promised to help you and I will."
Pekora sighed, pressing her hand against her chest, taking a much-needed breath. She had to consider if this was feasible.
"Okay." She pulled out the card. "Let's go. I guess I'll trust your heightened senses."
They headed to the elevator, Pekora swiping with her card, and it opened. They entered, Korone constantly listening for the creatures. It was so quiet, almost too quiet.
As the elevator continued moving upward, they barely glanced to one another.
"You okay – Peko?"
"Yes. I feel fine."
"I've never… you know, been in love."
"Really?"
"Not like how you are with… you know Okayu." And then she leaned back, trying not to think of her past life with Miko. "It's very time-consuming."
"I see." Korone brushed aside her hair. "I'm afraid to see Okayu like this."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean… because I'm different."
"But you look the same."
"But… I'm not the same. Am I?"
Pekora smiled, feeling almost motherly toward her creation. Not that she was a creation, per se, but something she helped create into a more streamlined and better doggo.
"Let me help here… it's not that you're different. Um, peko, peko, peko…." She paused briefly, "It's that what I placed in you brought out your inner god. You have Inugami blood and because you have that blood running through you it made you capable to take the added – let's call it vitamins – into your system and change your DNA slightly to fight off what was changing normal humans into creatures. You're special, Koro-chan. And that… helped me out - Peko. And subsequently, helped you out."
They neared the top floor.
"Thank you… Pekora. Thank you for saving me."
"No problem – Peko."
The elevator doors opened. Within a second, Korone was revving her chainsaw. The place was crawling with the strange creatures and demons.

Botan watched over the smaller cat-girl, listening to her breathing grow shallow, as she struggled for each breath.
"Korosan," she kept repeating over and over. "Korosan."
"She's burning up," Lamy was placing a cold compress on her brow. "I think I can heal her now."
"Don't overdo it."
"I'm not. But I need to because her fever is skyrocketing. I'm rested."
Suddenly a bang came at the door. The two turned. Another bang, and soon scratching.
"Seems the quietness wasn't going to last. They're here." Botan glanced to Lamy. "Stay near Okayu." She grabbed her rifle, placing the strap over her shoulder.
"Here," Botan handed her a pistol. "If they somehow break through, you only think of protecting yourself." Despite not wanting to admit she added, "she's gone – only take care of yourself."
"Shishiron?"
"I mean that."
The two stared into one another's eyes. Years they had spent simply enjoying a glance during a morning coffee, or holding while watching a scary movie, when time was so still.
Botan reached up at Lamy's face, running her hand careful across her hair, brushing a strand behind her ear, her hand lingering there.
"I missed so much time with you."
Lamy reached up, holding her hand over her wife's. "We'll make up for it."
"I hope your right." She glanced to Okayu. "I guess she's fortunate to be sleeping through this."
They kept hearing sounds outside, and screams, screeches. Something was going on outside the door.
#########################################################################
Pekora's eyes widened, realizing they'd just walked into a swarm of those creatures. She wanted to run back into the elevator, but Korone yanked her out of the elevator. "This way."
"Peko," she squeaked. Tightening the straps on her backpack, tucking in close behind the doggo.
Korone revved up the chainsaw and started slashing back and forth at the creatures. She was like a madwoman, growling and stomping at the creatures once she knocked them down, "Orayo! Orayo!" Over and over again.
Pekora was closely behind her with her cross bow out, shaking.
"Stay close," Korone growled. "Okayu's this way."
"Kay," Pekora shot at a creature to the right. The hallway held the creations that had been unleashed by her experiment. At moments, she felt guilty, but also, she was amazed at what they had become.
Back and forth, they moved the swarm. Mostly it was Korone, slashing with the chainsaw, pieces of flesh flying everywhere.
Pekora kept close behind, shooting when needed, but trying hard to stay out of Korone's way. She was doing a good job on her own.
Korone was kicking the creatures to the side.
She grabbed one and used him to plow through the rest, leading up to the room.
"She's there!"
Pekora was suddenly grabbed by the backpack, being yanked backward. "Korochan!"
Korone threw the chainsaw to the creature on the left and then ran to Pekora.
Throwing a fist right at the creature's head, she punched it backward, and then grabbed Pekora's jacket, pulling her close.
The horde was taking advantage, grabbing at Korone's back and her arms, but she let out a howl, growing larger, her eyes blazing as she went berserker.
Pekora was thrown back to the wall.
She spied a door, trying to open but it was locked.
"Locked – Peko?!"
She pulled out her card quickly, fumbling and nearly dropping it, opening the door. She ran inside, yelling, "Korochan, this way!"
The doggo was busy fighting creatures drawing their attention.
Pekora stood there, wanting to close the door before they came, when she was suddenly grabbed from behind.
She jumped in place, screaming.
"Get inside," Botan yelled at her, yanking Pekora backward to the ground, moving forward, shooting one round after another at the creatures before they entered.
Botan could see something fighting the creatures, and realized it was Inugami Korone.
She kept firing around her, until Korone calmed, seeing someone was there shooting behind her.
She ran toward the room she knew Okayu was inside.
"Quick!" Botan yelled, as Korone ran inside.
She instantly shut the door behind, before being swarmed.
Pekora sat on the ground, still shaking.
"Help me blockade this door!" Botan yelled at Pekora and Korone, but the doggo stopped in place, looking over at the one she had spent her life searching for, there on the table beside Lamy.
"Okayu?"
She began to growl at Lamy.
Pekora looked over and then to Botan and then back to Korone.
"Korochan, she's helping Okayu." Pekora jumped to her feet. "She's a healer."
Lamy calmly stepped back.
Botan had her gun out, ready to shoot whatever Korone had become.
"What… happened to her?" Korone asked, back to herself.
"She was scratched by those things," Botan answered, walking up beside Lamy protectively.
"Okayu?" Korone slowly walked to her, holding to her hand and then feeling at her head. She lowered, kissing her forehead. "Okayu, I'm here."
Pekora was beside Lamy and Botan. "I think I have something to help her."
"Your idea of helping is what changed all those people into creatures." Botan stated, staring angrily at the Chairman, "am I right?"
Pekora didn't answer. She didn't need anyone to help her feel guilty.
"She saved me," Korone said. "I know she can help Okayu."
Lamy glanced at the two. "I think Chairman Usada can help – because at this point…"
They were all aware Okayu didn't have much longer.
"Save her, please Pekora?" Korone asked, tears thick and flowing. "Please?"
"Yeah, sure – Peko." She placed her backpack on a chair, pulling out her small crate of serum. "Here goes – Peko."
They stood back watching.
######################################################################
Miko was walking along underground, slow and steadily, holding to her arm, still in pain from that sword. What they were doing was foolish. This would never bring world domination – only world destruction.
She needed to make it to where they had opened the Hell Realm and seal it shut once again.
She only hoped it wasn't too late and those things hadn't reached the city below the mountain. Then surely, all hell would break loose. Holios being an island was the only positive.
