Nico POV (First Person)
It was all over by the time I got to the battle. Will was dead so what was there to live for now. A picture came to the front of my mind, Percy's kids, my godchildren. I almost slapped myself for thinking so stupidly. I had made a promise that if both Percy and Annabeth died, Will and I would take in Poly and Austin. I hoped I would never have to fulfill that promise but the current conditions kept me from being too optimistic.
About three months ago, we started noticing something was happening. Monsters weren't coming back. Their numbers were so low, none of the new campers were attacked on their way to camp. This struck us as weird but we put our suspicions to the side as the number of half-bloods was higher than it had ever been. We took advantage of this and relaxed our security a little bit. Older demi-gods were allowed to leave the camp without a guardian and younger campers were allowed to leave with at least one person above the age of six-teen. Percy and Annabeth were happier than I had seen them in a long time.
We were celebrating Percy's birthday when he came for the first time. It was slaughter, that's all I can describe it as. Wave after wave of monsters came through the camp's borders, killing any one in their path. Luckily about 98% of the population was at Percy's party and we were able to fight. As the fighting started Hazel started to make a giant pathway so that we could escape into the safety of the underground. Even though there were many strong demi-gods the monsters were too much and they seemed almost happy when we killed one of their own I didn't know what that was about but I do now.
As I thought about the events that had passed a monster came up behind me. With a casual flick of my sword the monster crumbled into dust and instead of littering the ground in it's remains, the dust was swept up and returned to him. Tartarus glowed slightly brighter under almost see through skin. You could see the different rivers that flowed through him as they blocked the light coming from inside of him. His power increases every time that we kill a monster. It was infuriating to have to kill something to save your only to help the enemy in the end. As a group of monsters came towards me I felt something that enraged me even more than losing Will. Austin had just been killed. I let loose a scream as I charged the group of monsters. My sword twirled and slashed as I picked off every monster in my path. My rage was fulling me and giving me a burst of extra strength. I turned around to face Tartarus and what I saw broke me. There were only three of us left, Percy, Annabeth, and me. I looked at the others as I got into a fighting stance. The gesture was in vain as the last thing I saw was a cloud of poison coming at me. Sorry Perce, I thought as I was surrounded by darkness.
Percy POV (Third Person)
Percy woke up gasping for breath. As he sat bolt upright in his bed a wave of grief washed over him. He had seen the war in his dream, but from Nico's perspective. He didn't even know that was possible but he decided not to think too much of it, he was in the Underworld after all. He had just finished negotiations with Hades and was setting straight how he will help in the war to come.
The terms that they had agreed to made Percy the commander of one of the deadliest armies there was. They also discussed that the bases would be in the underworld and Atlantis, far from Zeus' territory. Percy was feeling good now. Before he had been scared, the opposing side had much more fire power and brains, but the scales had tipped, significantly. As he rose he looked to the entrance of the room. Standing there was a figure cloaked in shadows.
"Hades," Percy said getting to his feet.
"I am here to inform you that you will have to leave today," Hades said. "If you stay any longer suspicion will only rise and your element of surprise will be useless."
Percy nodded as he made his way to the door. He had already packed all of his things the night before and flashed away. He arrived on Olympus feeling tired but determined, I am finally going to get what I deserve he thought. He was pacing the building when he heard someone knock on the door. He walked over to get it, wondering who it may be. When he opened the door he was shocked at the face he saw.
"Jason?! What the heck are you doing here and more importantly, HOW YOU STILL ALIVE," Percy screamed, half enraged and half relieved to see his said nothing but he embraced Percy in a large hug. When they separated, Percy got a good look at his face. His eyes were swollen and red. He had stains going down his cheeks and his normally perfect hair was long and going everywhere. It had almost been a month since they had last seen each other at the battle.
"Do you even want to know," Jason asked, looking at Percy. His voice, though it sounded strong, was betraying how broken he was. He looked at Percy, who gave a small nod of encouragement, and he began his story.
"During the battle. Piper and I were cornered by a group of monsters. Nothing we would have normally not been able to handle, but we couldn't this time. I was exhausted from fighting for so long and Piper had been-" he broke off as his voice faltered, almost giving way to a sob. "Piper was pregnant." He stopped for a moment as he let the new sink in, as he had trouble believing it himself sometime. After a few minutes of silence, he started again.
"We were surrounded five to one. They had energy, we didn't. I was so tired, I don't think I could have summoned a drop of rain. So I was there fighting, for my wife, and my kid when it happened. They took her down and the baby with her Rage like I had never felt before overcame me. I somehow managed to summon lightning and destroyed the monsters, then I took off. I wanted to get my wife and kids out of that place, so I left." Jason looked down at his hands, ashamed.
"Dude, it's not your faul-"
"IT'S ALL MY FAULT! IF I HADN'T BEEN SO SELFISH THE ANNABETH AND YOUR KIDS MIGHT BE HERE. NICO MIGHT BE HERE OTHERS MIGHT-" he was cut off by a fuming Percy.
"Jason it is NOT your fault. If you would have stayed you would have died, if anyone was alive on the battlefield when it was just me and him would have died." Percy realizing what he had just opened up lowered his head quickly to unsuccessfully avoid further questions.
"What do you mean Perce?" Jason asked quietly. Percy sat there with his head bowed in thought. It took him a minute but he finally gathered enough courage to look Jason in the eye.
"I controlled his blood"
