One hour.
One hour of searching but to no avail. Shortly after Sam had uttered the command, Leah, and Embry, both in their wolf form had joined us in our search through the woods.
One time Seth had thought he heard something, a quiet sobbing but by the time we had figured out where it came from, it had already stopped.
The woods were huge, and it would take an army of wolves to search it properly. But if Bella or her father were here each second counted. It was spring, and even if the days were warm enough, the nights were still cold. I didn't know what they were wearing but I guessed it wasn't warm enough, all alone here in the woods.
Sam had returned and told us that nobody had seen Charlie, either in town or in the reservation. Charlie had briefly called Billy in the afternoon, asking if Bella was with me which deepened my anxiety. Had she already been missing at this time?
We had spread out in order to cover more ground, but it was hopeless. No sign of them anywhere. But also, no sign of vampires which must be a good thing. It wasn't Victoria after all.
Suddenly I heard Quil speaking up.
We've found Chief Swan's car.
He projected an image of the police car crashed against a tree. The front window was crushed. One door was open, and a trail of blood was leading towards the main road.
Seems like he was on the lookout for Bella and crashed his car somehow. We'll search the area; he couldn't have gone far.
At this time, I had stopped caring about Charlie. All I wanted was to find Bella and bring her home safe. Nothing else mattered.
Relax man, we're gonna find her. She'll be fine.
Embry was closing up to me and tried to cheer me up, but I was having none of that. I growled at him and kept my nose close to the ground.
Where was she?
