Jacob PoV

I sat in the chair and watched the girl lying in the hospital bed before me.

The white blanket shone brightly and brought out the paleness of her skin.

Her cheeks were flushed with an unhealthy red. The fever had returned, stronger than before. The doctors had said she had barely escaped a serious case of pneumonia. They had given her strong meds that made her sleep.

That had been four hours ago, and I hadn't left her side since. Sam had taken me off patrol duty for the next few days until Bella was better.

They had found Charlie in the drench just before the main road. He had a serious head wound but other than that no injuries. He was sleeping in a bed in the next room and didn't know about his daughter's condition yet.

Bella stirred lightly in her sleep and mumbled something. Charlie had once briefly mentioned serious nightmares that woke her almost every night. I got up and sat at her bed, taking her small hand in mine. "Hey Bells…" I whispered, stroking her damp forehead. "It's alright. You are safe now. Everything is gonna be fine." She turned her head as if she had heard my words. Her hands curled up in mine and a painful look crossed her face.

"No… No, please, don't."

My heart pressed together to a tight knot. "Bells, it's alright. No one's gonna hurt you." I tried to calm her, raising her hand to my mouth, placing a kiss on her upper hand.

"No, don't. Don't go, please. Stay."

"Bells, I am not going anywhere. I am right here, you hear me?" I began looking around for some kind of alarm button. Maybe she needed more pain medication or something to help her sleep.

"Edward, don't. Don't hurt him. Please. Jacob…" She moved around uncontrollably, the blanket falling down the bedside, her face red, tears streaming down. "Please. Jake, no!"

"Bella, you have to wake up. It's a just a dream! Wake up, please!" Desperately I tried to wake up, stroking her forehead, touching her shoulder, even shaking her a little bit.

With a gasp she woke up.
