I couldn't believe it.
She had come back.
After all this time, after everything I had said and done, she had come back. Back to me, back to where she belonged.
As our kissed continued all sorts of feelings roared through my head. First of all, happiness. True and utter happiness. I drew her as close to me as I could, feeling her soft and wet skin under my hands, her cool lips on mine until only one thought remained.
Mine
From now on, she was mine. And mine alone. I would never let her go now, not when she had finally found her way back to me.
I had to stop our kiss for a short time, but my hands remained firmly in place. My forehead touched hers and the big smile in her face told me everything I had to know.
"Good?" I asked nonetheless, just because I wanted to hear her say the words again.
"Very good," she replied and laid her head on my chest.
"I love you, Bella Swan, so, so much. I'll never let you go again."
I could feel her grin. "Sounds like a plan."
The rain had become even heavier and reminded me that she wasn't as immune to it as I was. I didn't want her to get sick again. "Where's your truck?" I asked softly. She motioned somewhere behind her.
"We should get you home before you catch a cold again," I murmured against her wet hair, breathing in the faint scent of her vanilla shampoo and the rain.
"You can keep me warm," she suggested, and I chuckled. "I'll be glad to but even I can't keep away the rain. You are soaked, Bells and need dry clothes and a warm bed."
She opened her mouth again and tried to protest but instead she had so sneeze. Twice. I raised an eyebrow. "See?"
"Alright." She sounded annoyed but better annoyed than sick. I took her hand and we made off to her truck. Leah, Seth, and Embry had run off and I hoped they would explain the situation to Sam so there wouldn't be another argument as why I wasn't on my post. On the way to the truck Belle sneezed again and began to cough so I took a quick decision. "Change of plans. Your house is too far away, you'll get sick even with me by your side. We'll need to get you out of these wet things as soon as possible," I explained, dragging her with me.
She looked at me. "So?"
"We'll go to my house. It's too dark to drive around anyway. I'm sure Charlie will understand that" I answered even though I wasn't too sure about the last part. Apparently so was Bella. "You think? I know he likes you, but you are still a boy and I don't know what his opinion is of his daughter staying all night alone with some boy..."
"I'll explain. Besides, we are not alone, my father's still in the house. And if you feel threatened in your modesty, I can still sleep on the couch," I teased her and almost burst out laughing when I saw the shocked expression on her face. "Relax Bells, I was just joking. I'll stay with you if you want." My heart beat faster at the thought of me and her alone in my bed, all night. And this time she wasn't sick.
We arrived at her truck. I took the driver's seat and pulled her close to me the minute she sat down. She was shivering and I began to worry that despite my effort she would get sick, nonetheless. Fortunately, the drive to my house was short and when we arrived, my father was still up. He looked up from his show when he heard us entering.
"So, you found him," he said instead of a greeting. Bella smiled. "Yup, I did."
"Dad, could you phone Charlie? She's soaked and cold and the drive home is too long in the dark. I'd rather she stayed with us for the night before she gets sick again." When my father didn't object but merely nodded and rolled off to the phone, I could have kissed him. I knew, that was only for girls and little kids, but I was thankful he trusted me and didn't order me to bring her home after she had taken a shower and got some dry clothes.
I took Bella by the hand and showed her to the bathroom. "I'll get you a towel and something dry to change." I gave her a light kiss on her cool lips and went on to get the things.
