Peter stood on a perch overseeing the gothic mansion. Even when he was living there after the SHRA fiasco it always felt off. His spider-sense would activate from a simple trip to the bathroom. The buildings mystical nature always felt like a volatile tinderbox waiting to light up. Thankfully Doc Strange stopped those fires before they got out of hand. He wondered if Strange could even help him find his counterpart. There was only one way to find out. "Here goes something." He jumped down and casually made his way to the Sanctum's front door. His fellow pedestrians didn't even bat an eyelash at Spider-Man and his loud costume. New Yorker's seen it all right. He knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer.
A middle age bald man answered the door. "Good evening Spider-Man." He was his usual straight lace self. Although he always was a little weary for the wall crawler. His jokes always rubbed him the wrong way.
"Sup Wong you're looking radiant. You just wax the dome?" Spider-Man joked. At this point in his career hit was on impulse.
Wong sighed and grimaced. "I see that your sense of humor is intact. I'm guessing you're here for master Strange. I don't get visitors." He dryly said. "Come in." Wong led the wall-crawler through the magical stronghold pretending to be a house.
"Hey you think you could whip up a snack for me. I've been swinging all day and I didn't get a chance to drop by a hotdog stand." Spider-Man halfway joked. He really was hungry.
"My culinary services are reserved for residents only. Thank goodness I only have two mouths to feed."
"Jarvis never complained this much." Spider-Man teased.
"Then swing over to the Avengers Mansion and get him to cook for you."
"All right all right Touchy." Spider-Man backed off though he suspected Wong's irritation wasn't genuine.
The two walked through the mansion and up the stair well. The inside took up more space then the mansion's walls. It had to be a five story climb in a 3 story building. Peter walked by a painting and swore it shot him a dirty look. "Hey can we speed this up, I got a serious problem and the doctor may have the cure."
"You must've been sitting on that joke for a while." Wong was never impressed by Spider-Man's need to put a joke behind everything.
"Eh, yesterday afternoon and it sounded better in my head."
"I'm sure it did."
They stopped at the Sorcerer Supreme's study. "Here we are. The doctor is expecting you. You can see yourself in." Wong instructed.
"Thanks Wong. Nice catching up with you."
"It was nice for one of us." Wong coldly responded.
Spider-Man looked back at the assistant. His eye lenses opened up as a perplexed look got painted on his face. "Dude ow."
"I was only kidding Spider-Man."
"Oh nice one Wong I knew you had it in you." Peter finished his joking and opened the door. The doctor's study was filled with ancient books along with a few sand stone hieroglyphics on the wall. The fire place was on and the gentle cracking of the wood rang through the room. He found the defender of the realm reading from a very large book. Of course the sorcerer was floating with his legs crossed while doing it. They didn't call him Strange for nothing.
"Good evening Spider-Man how are things?" Steven didn't turn away from his book. "It can't be too good if you're coming to me for help."
"Well it's not so much me that has the problem per say… or I do. Look it's not me but it's me." Spider-Man couldn't find the proper wording for another version of him was in danger. He also didn't know how to break the news of the tablet's involvement.
"Could be a little more specific." He asked as he mentally turned the page. "Using names and places usually helps."
Peter considered his words for a moment. "How much do you know about The Tablet of Order and Chaos?"
Strange took his attention away from the book. He closed it and turned to give the web-head a stern look. "I know that it's an artifact of immense power." He returned his feet to the ground. "And I know of three people in the realm who are aware of its true nature. Last time I checked you weren't one of those people. What did you do?" Strange spoke to Spider-Man as if he was a child caught stalling from the cookie jar.
"I tried to stop Mysterio from stealing it from ESU one night and long story short I broke it and the fragments went into four different dimensions including this one. Some baddies got a hold of them and they all get a power boost when they touched one of the fragments. Me and the other Spider-Men from the other realities stepped up and we all handled it." Peter gave him the condensed version of the crisis. He tried to sound sincere.
"…You handled it? Spider-Man you don't just handle something so earth shattering." He clasped the bridge of his nose and took a breath. Doctor Strange battled the worst of foes and seen things most people couldn't comprehend but he was still human.
"Relax doc the worst is behind us now. Well almost behind us. We ran into a snag when M-dub was sending the others to their home dimensions. One of us didn't make it home." The wall crawler rubbed the back of his head. He tried to construct a description of the creatures he saw. "We thought it was an accident at first but Web saw these… creatures tear a hole from under him then he was gone. And that's why I'm here. I figure you might have some answers for me."
Strange digested the hero's words before responding. "What did these creatures look like exactly?" His brows got knit and serious now. He had the same look whenever he prepped for major surgery a lifetime ago.
"They looked like neon salamanders. There was glowing blue skin and their eyes and mouth had a yellow glow. So do you have an idea of what I'm doing with, because I sure as hell don't?"
"I've never heard of such a creature. But it could be anything. Creatures from the astral plane don't have a set form. So I can't help you on that front."
"Crap. So can you help me find him? I want to make sure he gets home from wherever he is. He did help save the world or worlds. Kind of a sucky reward if you ask me."
"I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you might be chasing a corpse."
"What, that can't be!? The guy was alive and kicking when he diappered he didn't drop dead!" The thought of someone dying because of his actions brought back painful memories he didn't want to relive. "It's only been a few weeks I'm sure he's out there surviving and waiting for a rescue."
"The universe doesn't beat to one drum Spider-Man; one second in this reality could be one year in another. See what I mean?" This wasn't pleasant for strange either. The worst part of his medical career was telling the patients family he/she didn't survive the procedure.
Spidy shock his head in disbelief. "Look Doc this whole thing was my fault. I'm the one who put others in danger and I'm responsible for that Spider-Man getting lost in space. So please help me find him. I would do it myself if I could but I can't. Please help me find him. I don't care if he's dead or alive I need to put this behind me and…" He was stopped as a hand landed on his shoulder.
Strange understood. Though all the jokes and antics he was a true hero. The thought of losing someone and blaming himself weighed heavily on the wall crawler. Of course the blame was on Mysterio but he still felt responsible. "It's alright Spider-Man I get it. I'll try to find him."
"Thanks Steven, that means a lot to me."
He flashed Spider-Man a confident grin and went into business. "So did this Spider-Man share your secret identity?"
"Come again?"
"Was he a version of you or another man wearing a Spider-Man costume?"
"Oh yeah M-Dub says he was a carbon copy of me from the thirties. The only other Spider-Man was Megal. We've crossed paths a few time times."
"I see." Strange walked to a drawer and pulled out a knife with a golden dish.
"I thought you were going to help me not sacrifice me to the sun gods." Peter winced as he saw the knife. A faint hint of his spider-sense put him on edge.
Strange sighed when the bad jokes returned. "No it's not for that. Besides such a major operation would takes days of fasting to accomplish." Strange trailed off and Spider-Man stared at him wide eyed. The fact that the good doctor knew how to sacrifice unnerved Spidey. "Moving on, this is a dish one of my processors used to track down a demon terrorizing Spain. He spilled the victims blood in this dish and tracked down the demon and ultimately vanquished it. So since this Spider-Man is another version of you I can use some of your blood to help find your counterpart."
"Alright then." Peter rolled up his sleeve. He grabbed the knife and prepared to slash himself. "You sure this will work?" He grunted as the knife pierced his flesh. The blood seeped into the mystical dish.
"It'll help. The blood will help point me in you counterparts direction." He set down the dish on a table and waved his hands. His magical energies danced across the table and flowed to the golden dish.
"Good, so how long will do you think it will take to find him?" He asked. The wound on his arm already started to coagulate.
Strange eyed the wall crawler's arm. "Let me help you with that." He chanted in a dead language and his Eye of Agumoto activated. It's gaze shined on Peter's arm and the wound closed up.
"Thanks." He rolled his sleeve back down.
"This will take some time Spider-Man. As I'm sure you know the universe is a big place." He walked to the dish and said a second chant and his energies danced around the room this time. Light particles bounced around the dish and the center light up like a spot light in the study.
"Wow." Spider-Man was awestruck by the display of raw power. He was transported to his elementary school whenever a magician dropped by for a special assembly. His amazement was put in check and he came back to Earth. "So what kind of time are we talking about here?"
"A couple of months if I'm lucky and a few years if I'm not." He levitated and prepared to begin his search. He could already see the wall crawler start to protest and cut him off. "Spider-Man my job is extremely important. I have to shield this realm from some nasty things. I can't search for your friend full time. Even if I could the time table still stands. So here's how I'm going to do this. I will use whatever free time I have looking for him. Wong will help me out as well."
Spider-Man made peace with the Doctor's situation. This was the best deal he was going to get from a crap situation. "Thanks Doc I'll see myself out now. I got my own responsibilities to attend to."
"Right, I'll let M-dub…Madame Web know if I've found him. When I do, just swing by and we'll work out a plan to get him out." Strange hopped Spidey didn't catch the M-dub oversight.
"Yeah yeah, happy hunting Doc." He left the sanctum that night and went on to the Friendly Neighborhood Sider-Man gig. One thing kept bugging him as he patrolled the streets of New York. "What kind of hell could he be in? And he could've been in there for years."
XXXxxx Dragon's Flat Burough: Peter's Apartment xxxXXX
Peter laid in bed on a lazy weekend morning. It was his favorite thing to do with all the crazyness at night and his busy work schedule. Just lie down and sleep until the afternoon like a lazy bum. He loved every second of it. And the icing on top was the lack of weird dreams lately. He could only vaguely remember that voice in his head and he didn't give it much thought. His bliss was interrupted by a knock on the door. He was already half awake and his visitor broke off his second sleeping spell. 'Damn it, probably just the land lord trying to get rent.'
The land lord always bullied his tenants for rent payments. He probably had a bad experience with other dead beats so he did this to keep them on their toes. Peter wasn't immune from his wraith even though he paid his dues on time. 'He'll go away. Just pretend you didn't hear the knock and it won't happen a…Ah crumbs!' He thought as another bout of knocking rang through the small apartment. He slammed a pillow in his ear and begrudgingly gets out of bed. "Chen the rent isn't due till next week." He got up shady eyed and opened the door. "You know I'm good for it so why don't you … Ms. Sato?" His boss's daughter stood in his doorway with an eye brow cocked in confusion. "Um good morning."
"It's noon actually. Can I come in?" Asami asked Peter.
He tried to straighten his bed head in a poor attempt to look presentable. "I don't know my place is kind of a pigsty right now."
"I don't mind."
"O.K then come on in." He opened his door and let her in.
The place was a mess. Clothes laid everywhere along with some discarded noodle packets littered around the place. "Wow you weren't kidding Takuya." Blue prints for invention ideas were at the corner along with a sink full of dirty dishes.
"I warned you." He took a seat at the foot of his bed. "So what brings an heiress to my humble little whole in the wall?"
"I came by to tell you that we put together a working prototype of the satomobile you helped create." Asami told him.
"That's great news. But I could've heard about it when I went back to work."
"True but I thought you should be there when we put the prototype through its paces." Asami told him.
"I can't go you see I got plans." Peter lied. He was going to sleep until dusk and patrol.
Asami didn't buy it for a second. "Really, that bed head says otherwise." She pointed to his messy hair.
"Oh you haven't heard? This is the latest in hairstyles. It's called the caring without caring. You're the socialite you should know these Ms. Sato."
She laughed. "Whatever you say Takuya and stop calling me 'Ms. Sato'. I'm not some old lady I'm only a year older then you."
Peter shrugged. "I was only trying to be respectful you're my first house guest I ever had."
"Well don't be so formal you sound like a butler. You work for my dad not me."
"Fair enough, Asami only from now on, got it."
"Good now that we got that cleared up get dressed. You can't wear that mask forever you know."
Peter's eyes got buggy and shifted about. "Mask, what mask I don't wear a mask!" He wondered if Asami caught a glimpse of his mask and connected the dots. Was she that sharp?
Asami looked confused by Peter's outburst. "Right, you know it's just a figure of speech Takuya. I was referring to the jokes and the over politeness that's all. You're an immigrant and you being really careful not to ruffle any feathers. I'm just telling you to relax that's all."
Peter sighed with relief. "O.K I get it. It's a new land and I'm a little over polite. But hey I'm warming up to the place and I can't tell everyone what I really think about them."
Asami nodded. "Makes sense, but you didn't pull that stuff with Beifong that night. You're tough as nails under all that brains." She said as her curiosity for a contraption finally caught her attention. She walked up to it and went in to touch it. "Hey Takuya what is this thing?"
"Hey don't touch that." Peter ordered.
She whipped her hand back. "Sure so what is it?"
"Right now it's a mess. What it's supposed to be is a high pressure tea maker." Peter resisted the urge to get into the techno babble of the machines inner workings. He hopped in the future the machine could be streamlined and fashioned into web shooters. He depended on his webs so much that whenever Madame Web found him and took back the enhanced webbing he would have these to fall back on. It beat unlearning his fighting techniques. "When I get this thing working just right you won't even need a fire or electricity to heat it up."
"You're just full of surprises Takuya." She could truly appreciate why her father wanted him so badly.
"Heh, your dad said the same thing."
"So how is it a mess exactly? It looks fine to me."
"It's not finished yet. I got the pressure part down but I'm having a hard time generating enough kinetic energy to work. I should crack the problem in a week or two if I'm lucky.
"I see. Alright Takuya get changed. I'll be waiting up front." Asami played it off. Takuya was more than a sharp kid he really was a prodigy. That brain of his just might change the world. She had a feeling that he didn't fully know it himself.
"I don't remember agreeing to any fieldtrips."
"I know and it alright, your consent isn't required." She walked to the door and turned. "Don't keep me waiting."
Her smile melted his heard hart and left Peter dumbfounded. It was like a pin up girl came to life. An angel flew down from heaven and graced him with her presence. "…Right yeah I will…I mean I won't keep you leaving I mean waiting."
"Alright then." She walked out and closed the door behind her.
He fell back on his bed and let his blush fade. "Damn witch hexed me." He sighed and began to get dressed and kept reminding himself that she had a boyfriend. He was dressed in a flash and he went down the steps even faster. The sun was out and people were enjoying their respective free time. Asami was waiting there with a hot rod parked on the curb. "That was fast. Hop in."
Peter complied and got into the car. One thought was nagging him as she rolled into traffic. "Not going to lie to you Asami I thought you would have a security team following you around."
"Never needed them." She said between shifting gears. "Dad enrolled me in self defense classes since I was five."
"You don't say. I can't picture you in a fist fight. So are you some kind of judo master or something?"
"As if, Judo was nothing I mastered it when I was nine. I actually have a few styles under my belt."
Peter whistled. "Color me impressed."
"Don't let good looks fool you Takuya. I could take your precious Spider-Man to school." She flashed him an eye and a confident grin all while keeping one eye on the road.
Peter had to resist the urge to burst into laughter. He just smiled, reclined in his seat, and kept it to himself. "I don't know Asami. Haven't you read the papers? The guy busted up a lot of Triad thugs who that the same thing. I even heard he smacked around a few chi-blockers to boot."
Asami smiled at his little fan fare. "You're such a Spider-Man fanboy Takuya."
"I'm not a fanboy. Now that Bolin guy, that's a fanboy right there. I'm more of an admirer."
"An admirer, please I bet you sing that Spider-Man song in the shower."
Peter perked an eye brow. "Wait there's a song about m…him?"
"Yeah you haven't heard it yet?"
"Nope."
Asami reached for the radio and cut it on. "Let's see if they're playing it." She sifted through the different radio stations. Here we go."
/: It's a nice bright day in the United Republic but I say we can make it a little brighter. Here's that hip new groove by the Ditko's dedicated to that Wall Crawling Do-Gooder. Ladies and gents here's the Spider-Man. :/ The beatnique DJ purred through the airways.
/: Spider-Man Spider-Man does whatever a spider can. Spins a web any size. Catches thieves just like flies. Look out here comes the Spider-Man. :/
"…Oh god." Peter said to himself. He was shocked by how catchy the tune was and the significance the song held. He went form a hushed rumor to a household name in nothing flat. So much for a low profile, his popularity had reached the point of no return now.
"Pretty catch huh?"
Peter was too stunned to give Asami his opinion. 'Unreal.'
XXXxxx Police Headquarters: Chief Beifong's office xxxXXX
Lin sat at her desk and read over some personnel files. These were the people that would help her bring Spider-Man in. They were all good cops but they wouldn't be enough in this high stakes game she was playing. So in light of this she pulled a few favors from the United Republic Forces. She felt that a few of their top people could be able to tip the odds in her favor. She heard a knock on her door. "Come in."
An office administrator walked in with several files in his hand. "Here are the dossiers you requested ma'am."
"Thanks." She grabbed the files. These were noteworthy United Forces soldiers. She had to call in a few favors and drop the Beifong names once or twice but she got it done. Thankfully, General Iroh approved her request. Of course this was all under wraps and none of them were officially here. She was grateful for the secrecy since this was an overreach of her position but even she knows when to bend the rules from time to time. She opened the files one by one and laid them out on her desk.
The first soldier went by Chiko. He was a former Yuan Archer who left the Fire Nation Army at twenty to join the United Forces to see the world. His file photo told a different story. The only thing that wasn't Fire Nation was his uniform. The archer wore a traditional top-knot and sported the 'Yuan Eyes' on over half of his face. The confident grin spoke to her. "A hot head and a show boat to boot…great." She could live with his attitude. His skills with the bow would help out tremendously. Those arrows would keep the wall crawler unbalanced. She moved onto the second dossier.
The second file belonged to a water bender from the Foggy Swamp Tribe named Liu. He specialized in swamp style water bending and plant bending. She remembered Aang telling her a story about a similar bender he and the rest of Team Avatar encountered. Apparently he has antisocial issues and several hygiene complaints from his fellow soldiers. You can take the man out of the swamp but you can't take the swamp out of the man. He wore a messy pony tail and had a perpetual five o'clock shadow. She made a note to make sure Liu bathes regularly during the operation. The infamous swamp stink could give his position away.
Chief Beifong closed the book on Liu and moved on to this Yumi person. She was a firebender who traveled the world to find herself or something like that. Such a concept was alien to her. Kya or Su did that garbage and it didn't do them much good, at least in her eyes. But unlike those nuts she actually found something. She stumbled across one of the sun warrior temples when a storm took her off course. She got shipped wrecked and somehow survived for three months on her own. No one knows how she pulled that off all on her own but she found a way. She also discovered new ways to firebend along with having complete control over the element. The file said she was cool under pressure and had a focused personality. She was a catch. Maybe after this Equalist madness blows over she could recruit Yumi. She always wanted to diversify the city's police force. Her picture backed up the text. She had a blank expression on her face. She had ancient sun warrior markkngs and accessories or as much as military dress code allowed. Her long black hair was tied in a simple pony tail by a gold band. She was good asset and a possible wild card. All in all she didn't have any complaints for Yumi.
Lin went on to the next file. It covered a swordsman named Hanzo or Han for short. His claim to fame was that he emulated other masters of the past. He studied Piandao, Chief Sokka's unorthodox style, and somehow the Blue Spirit. It said that his grandfather was stationed at the Pohuai Stronghold on the night the masked swordsmen saved Avatar Aang from the Imperial Fire Nation. Apparently he was mesmorized by the tale told by his grandfather and played Blue Spirit as a kid. He eventually got good enough to be him and joined the United Forces as a result. He wielded dual dao swords and an original Piandao jian to compliment his duel sword disciplines. Lin couldn't get much on his file picture. He was just an average looking guy with brown hair tied back in some kind of bun and was clean shaven. Her mother's wisdom echoed in her head. "Watch out for the quiet ones." She repeated Toph's old saying.
She moved on to the final soldier. He was the leader of the group and an earthbender. He was from Ba Sing Se and was a formal… "Dai Li Agent!" Lin blurted out when she came across that dreaded word. That part of the file read as top secret. Her mother told her stories about them. She told Lin how the Dai Li betrayed the Earth Kingdom all in the name of power for their leader. Of course they defected to the Firenation in the closing days of the war. The fact that the organization committed high treason and still active today baffled the Chief. But there was more to Captain Quan's story. Apparently Quan shared her sentiments. One day the queen ordered him to 'silence' some political agitators and he refused. He was tired of the vicious caste system and the despotic queen so he chose to desert. He even went so far as to flee the country. Queen Hou-Ting took it as an insult and had her men hunt Quan down. He evaded and fought them off for weeks as he reached the outskirts of the country's borders. The agents cornered him at a small ship port. They had worn him down so much that he couldn't put up much of anymore. Luckily for him a United Forces patrol boat was in the area. The saw the short brawl and intervened. The commanding officer of the PT boat was then lieutenant junior grade Bumi saved the mans life. "Humph, small world." She continued reading the file. The captain gave twenty five years to the United Forces as gratitude. He employs his Dai Li training in peacekeeping operations and he gave up valuable information for the situation in Ba Sing Se. The Dai Li agents may be scum but no one would debate their combat prowess. He also brought experience to the table. A seasoned veteran would help immensely against Spider-Man and Amon.
Beifong was happy the United Forces brass didn't short change her. They gave her the cream of the crop and she intended to use them to the fullest. These people could take down the Spider-Man and destroy the equalist uprising. This she was sure of. "Jade get in here!" Lin called in her secretary.
The secretary came in quickly. "Yeah boss."
"When will the United Forces team be arriving?"
"They'll be here any day now ma'am."
"Good, that gives me enough time for an old friend to drop by."
This confused the assistant. She wasn't used to her hard boiled boss discussing personal matters in her officer. "Old friend ma'am?"
"He's more of an acquaintance really. He was an old member of Team Avatar actually." She said absently as she pulled out a map of the city and began surveying for staging areas. Hopefully there would be one that complemented all of the UF teams skills.
"Wow…" She was star struck but caught herself before angering Chief Beifong and returned to her post.
Lin reached for her phone and rang up her trump card. "Good afternoon … No I'm fine and yes Spider-Man is still at large, have you worked out the kinks in the new equipment? Good and it only took you a month to produce. I knew I made the right call when I reached out to you. I was just calling to see if you could come to the city, the officers need to know what their new weapons can do and I don't think a simple list will cut it. Excellent, I look forward to your arrival." She hung up the phone on her secret contact and turned the radio on. She kept the volume down so she wouldn't disturb the other officers. She leaned back and contemplated. The table was set and she got everything she asked for. The only thing that blocked her victory was Spider-Man himself. She painstakingly analyzed the wall crawler and played it safe long enough it was time to go on the offensive. She played out the scenario in her head when a particular song played through the radio. It was that new Spider-Man song and it infuriated her. She whipped her steel cable and sliced the radio in half. "Enjoy the fame while it lasts punk!"
XXXxxx Future Industries Test Track xxxXXX
The roar of the prototypes satomobile resonated through the track. The chatter between the engineers and the technicians didn't impede Peter's glee. Seeing something he helped create was a real treat. The driver put the dull grey roadster through the ringer. He drove forwards, backwards, through the mud, and the speed bumps without much of a fuss. Hiroshi was right and forward thinking when he proposed using platinum. The company wasn't called Future Industries for nothing.
"Hello, Earth to Takuya is anyone home?" Asami tried to get his attention for five minutes. She finally broke through and snapped him out of his trance like state.
"Hmm, you say something Asami?"
"Yeah, I was asking you what you thought about the prototype."
"It's pretty good. Though the suspension a little stiff and the timing chain could use some tightening. Plus the clutch didn't catch the third gear. I should take a look at the gearbox and OW! Did you just pinch me?"
"Yeah, if I didn't you wouldn't stop. Besides you didn't answer my question so I'll try again. What do you think?" She looked a little annoyed.
Peter heeded her wards and looked as the prototype barreled threw the apex. "It's amazing."
Asami smiled at the sought after response. "Thought so and you were just going to stay home to sleep the day away." Asami recognized the light in Peter's eye. Her father got like whenever he made a break through.
Peter shrugged. "Eh nothing wrong with that but this is slightly better."
The gun-metal satomobile came in for a pit stop. The technicians sought to the vehicles needs. They refilled the gas tank and went through a laundry list of safety checks. The engineers talked with the techs and recorded their data.
Asami grinned as an idea came to mind. "Let's fix that." Asami walked over to the rack and pulled out a helmet. "Here, why don't you take it for a spin?" She tossed the helmet to Peter.
He caught it. "I don't think that's such a good idea. I'm not the best driver."
"So what it's not a big deal, just take it out." She stopped herself when the answer came to her. "You don't know how to drive do you."
"No no it's not like…it's just…yeah I can't drive." He rubbed his neck and looked away.
"Don't be embarrassed Takuya a lot of people can't drive. There's not a whole lot of places that aren't industrialized yet."
Her reasoning didn't apply to him. His world was far more industrialized than hers and he's been around automobiles since he was a kid. Like many city slickers, public transit was king and he never needed to learn. "Not a lot of satomobiles back home. Plus I find alternative modes of transportation."
"Makes since." Asami reached for another helmet and some goggles. "I'll take you around the track a few times."
"Asami you don't have to do that." His pride was a little wounded at the thought of a being driven around like a child.
"I don't have to I want to. So stop talking and let's do this."
"Alright then." He got into the passenger seat and strapped in. Asami hopped into the driver seat and started the satomobile. She put her foot on the throttle and sped down the test track. The car was a marvel. It was one thing to see it but it was another thing to actually feel it. The wind smacked his face and his head whipped side to side as Asami hugged the turns. It concurred the sharp turns with little trouble. Asami driving was something else. The engine hit all the right gears. Her timing was flawless and her execution was perfect. Before he knew it the ride was over and despite himself he laughed out loud. For a moment the aspiring scientist and secret hero was replaced with a normal seventeen year old kid from queens. He hadn't felt this way since before his uncle's murder. The experience was almost better then web swinging, almost.
"Wow Takuya, never thought I'd see you act your age."
"Alright you got me, this is way better then sleeping in." Pete was skittish and he couldn't hide his feelings this time. It was nice ridding in a car instead of being on top of one, or behind one, or being dragged and being shot at on one. It was a liberating experience.
"You know if you liked it so much I could teach you how to drive."
"I don't think I could get to your level."
Asami removed her helmet and let her hair spill out. She sighed. "Why are boys so competitive? Don't worry about that besides practice makes perfect." She exited the car and Peter followed suit. She handed her helmet to a technician and peter did the same.
Peter smiled. "O.K but before I agree to this I should mention the elephant in the room."
"Don't you mean elephant koi?"
The thought of a giant sea born elephant jumping out of the ocean caused him to pause. "Yeah that's what I meant. Anyway I don't think Mako would like his girl messing with some science geek."
"First of all I'm no one's 'girl'" Asami flashed Peter a hostile look. Even her glare was regal. Go figure. "Besides he's too busy practicing for the tournament so I got time to kill. He can be a real machine when it comes to probending."
Peter took a mental note not to associate girlfriends with possessions in the future. "Hey it's the biggest game in the year right? They have to be a little mechanical."
Asami caught his subtle joke and giggled. "I suppose."
"So how's Korra doing? Did she clean that Amon guy's clock?" He said. Now was as good a time as any to probe for information.
"I don't know much but from what Mako said it didn't go well. Amon had his chi-blocker gang up on her and knocked her out, so much for equality huh."
"Wow, didn't think Amon would stoop that low. That task force or whatever needs to hurry up and arrest that guy." Peter played the part of the coy citizen pretty well.
"I know right. Oh I forgot, he said Spider-Man was there that night."
"Really why?"
"I don't know. Makos said she got real tight lipped when Spider-Man came up."
"She's probably just creped out by the guy. You know the wall crawling and webs and stuff. It's nuts right." Peter said.
"Meh, weirder things have happened in the world. So where did all this interest for Korra come from?"
"I don't know I heard she challenged Amon a few days ago and the media isn't talking about it." Peter wondered if his lie sounded as hollow as he imagined it.
"You're lieing and you're hiding something." Asami looked at Peter suspiciously.
Peter laughed nervously. "Why would I be lying about that? I got nothing to hide." He felt a cold sweat bleed down his check. He knew hanging around Asami was a bad idea.
Asami began to connect the dots and answers started to come to her. "Oh my gosh it all makes sense now, you defending Korra that night, asking about her from out of the blue, and your fascination with Spider-Man…"
Peer cursed to himself. He worked so hard to cover his tracks and diminish his ties with his alter ego. He's taken so many precautions. None of that mattered now. It was time to face the music. Someone was bound to find out eventually. "Look Asami I didn't mean to lie about it It's just…"
Asami didn't let him finish. "You have a crush on the Avatar." Asami grinned. She knew he was hiding something and she finally uncovered his secret. Or at least she thought she did.
Peter had a dumb founded face. "…Come again."
"You like Korra. That's why you get in that argument with Beifong. You saw how bad she felt so you got over yourself and told off the chief of police of all people. And now you ask about her out of the blue. I got you pegged Takuya, you got a crush on Korra and you're intimidated because she's the Avatar." Asami said with a knowing smile.
Peter openly laughed at Asami assumption. He was amazed that his secret was still secure. "Oh boy you're dead wrong Asami. I barely know the girl and I only meat her that one time." He left out the Spider-Man encounters and the shop incident. Korra didn't even remember that one.
"You know there's no harm with a little crush Takuya. You don't need to work so hard to hide your feelings. You like the Avatar so what."
"But I don't so can we stop talking about my factious dating woes."
"O.K then, I was going to ask you if you wanted to come with me to the arena to deliver their new uniforms but if you're not interested…"
"Wait your going to the arena personally?" Peter suddenly found his interest suddenly spike.
"Yeah I don't get to see Mako a lot so I'll be going myself. We got a lunch date planed and I could hit two birds with one stone." Asami played like she wasn't interested.
"Could I tag along?" Peter asked
"Now why would you want to come with me Takuya? Korra will be there and oh wait but you're not interested in her." Asami said in the snarkiest tone.
Peter played it cool and cocked an eyebrow. "I'm not. It's just that I've never been to their arena or seen a match actually. It's got nothing to do with Korra."
"Sure Takuya. You come by to see the arena and you can sit with me and dad at the box the company reserved." Asami ended her pursuit for truth.
"Great can't wait."
"Can't wait for the tournament or can't wait to see Korra again?" Asami teased.
"And this little love story is officially worn out."
"I don't know I still think it's got some life in it."
"Ha ha. Welp thanks for the good time Asami." He turned and pointed to the prototype. "That thing is amazing."
"You know I come by here from time to time and drive around. You're more than welcomed to do the same."
"Can't drive remember."
"Offered to teach you remember."
"Oh right you did. You sure you want to do that. I'm kind of a spazz when it comes to learning stuff like that. And I don't want to be a burden on you." Peter wasn't cherry picking his words to hide his identity. He was being completely honest with the heiress. All those years of being a social reject can to that to a guy.
"Do you have any idea how much you've done for the company, for me? My dad isn't in his workshop for hours on end anymore and I actually get to see him during the day time, so teaching you how to drive isn't a problem."
Peter was taken aback by Asami's words. Her reaching out was a form of gratitude. "Humph, when you put it like that how could I refuse?"
She smiled and tossed him the keys to her satomobile. He instinctively caught them. "Good then we start right now."
The two walked towards Asami's car. "O.K now Mako's definitely going to get the wrong idea." Peter teased. He got a light jab on the arm for it.
XXXxxx Republic City Navel Port xxxXXX
Beifong sat and waited for her United Forces assets to arrive in the city. She left the usual operations to Captain Saikhan. She wanted to see how the team stacked up. She was amazed that she got her staging ground so quickly. The city gave her four blocks to play with. Her thoughts were cut short when a United Forces frigate steamed into port. They have arrived.
A few deck hands disembarked immediately to secure the small ship. The team then filed out of the vessel. They packed lightly, only brining the bare essentials on their person. The deck hands hefted some boxes off the deck. No doubt some auxiliary equipment that would be hauled off to the police station. Beifong paid attention to their mannerisms. If they went against her standards they would be dismissed from the operation.
"…I'm telling you guys my grand dad captured Avatar Aang back in the war." The archer proudly said to the others. Chiko always did talk too much.
"Chiko you've been on about that since Omashu drop it already." The annoyed swamp style water bender ordered. "Last week you said you took on a shirshu with your bare hands."
"Liu you forgot the part where it nicked me and I bravely saved my fire team from the beast." The archer was animated as he told the tall tale.
"Really, that's not what I heard." Hanzo called out his teammate. He had two swords slung over his back. One was sheathed with the broad swords and the other with his prized Piandao sword.
"What, my grandpa really did capture the Avatar. You should know yours was there too." Chiko protested Hanzo's claim.
Hanzo shook his head. "No not that. I was talking about that hullabaloo with the shirshu is pure nonsense."
"No it's not." Chiko blurted out.
"An ounce of shirshu toxins can paralyze someone for five hours." The honorary sun warrior said. Yumi's demeanor was cold and focused. She was truly a quit professional. "You're probably lying about that time you took down a whole squad of barbarians by yourself." Yumi said flatly not caring about his feelings.
Chiko was about to initiate an argument but the squad leader diffused it. "I can vouch for that one actually." The stoic leader said to Yumi. "The kid's hot stuff when he isn't running his mouth." Normally his squad would be ordered to be quite but following their abrupt reassignments and long boat ride he decided to allow them to speak freely to help them unwind. He regretted speaking up since he had to tell the tale now. "A group of barbarians tried to take over a small farming village in the Fire Nation. We were called in and it all goes south when they get reinforcements. Their bearing down on our position and they were about to finish us off with some high explosive." The former Dai Li agent suddenly found himself with a captive audience. Chiko smugly smiled and basked in his glory. "So the kid here shot a flaming arrow at one of the H.E barrels and blew them to kingdom come. That one shot turned the tide to our favor."
Chiko smile was at the ear to ear level now. He could barely contain his glee.
Liu wasn't impressed though. "Big whoop the kids a marksman. Yuan Archers are known for stuff like that. It aint nothing to brag about he was doing his job." He was in a very bad mood. This Spider-Man interrupted a three month leave back home. The vigilante was cutting in on quality swamp skiing time.
Hanzo gave the story some gravity. "The target was five hundred plus feet away and it was the size of a gold coin."
Chiko couldn't hold it in anymore. "That's right a living breathing inspiration walks amongst you." He pointed to his tattooed eye line. "These eyes are so good they can see the future. And I can see me beating the Spider-Man!"
"Pipe down!" The team's respective personalities were replaced with a model soldiers, though Chiko still had a slight smile as they approached Beifong.
"Captain Quan I presume." Lin said to the commanding officer. The scars and the look in his eyes told her he was a product of several battles. They all had it except the archer. He was sporting a dumb smile.
"Yes ma'am." He gave her the traditional bow. "I hear you have a bug problem."
"You could say that. Came one, I'll give you the whole story back at headquarters."
They walked into the police cruisers and road off to the station.
XXXxxx Air Temple Island xxxXXX
It was a late afternoon at the air temple island. The ocean breeze blew through the compound. Korra spent most of her off time practicing her airbending. Tenzin watched patiently. He couldn't tell why but Korra's form improved after the incident at his father's monument. She was still shaken up but she was close to her old rebellious self. Admitting her fears was a hurtle she needed to overcome her airbending stumbling block.
"Your technique has improved Korra." Tenzin gave out some positive reinforcement.
"And I still can't bend a breeze." Korra pessimistically replied.
"That's because you're not being the leaf Korra!" Ikki yelled out. She and Jinora were playing pai sho to pass the time since Korra wasn't showing much improvement. Jenora stuck around to hear more stories about Spider-Man. It was like the wall-crawler was one of her book hero's come to life.
Korra rolled her eyes at the useless advice. "Be the leaf, got it." She heard that saying a thousand times by now.
Tenzin started to ask the hard questions now. "How did Tarrlok take your leave of absence?"
"He wasn't mad about it or at least he didn't show it. He said things like 'You're going back on your word' and 'You're letting a vigilante take your thunder.'"
"So he was angry then." Tenzin said.
"But he talked with a straight face and at the end of it he wished me luck in the tournament." Korra shivered at the thought. "It really creeped me out."
"Yep, he was furious." He said while stroking his beard. "He's an opportunist and you took away his opportunity so he's angry. But never mind him. I got word from the police that there was signs of a struggle."
Korra's eyes shifted. "Um yeah I did try to fight off a dozen chi-blockers before Amon knocked me out."
"I'm aware of that Korra but they said there were signs of a second fight. There were cracks on the floor and discarded equalist bolas. The police believe it was Spider-Man."
"Spider-Man was there!" Jenora blurted out.
Korra considered lying to cover for Spider-Man but she couldn't bring herself to do it. "Yeah he showed up."
Ikki and Jenora faces lit up when they heard the magic words. "I'm going to tell Meelo!" The young girl ran off to tell her brother. Her sister stayed to get the juicy details.
Tenzin wasn't as thrilled as his children. "What was that trouble maker doing there!?" He hadn't believed the forensic reports. "Was he trying to defeat Amon or Fight you or…"
"Was he trying to help you fight Amon!" Tenzin's eldest child shouted. The mention of the vigilante betrayed her normally quiet disposition.
"Woah woah slow down. He didn't show up for any of those reasons." She turned and rubbed her head. There was still some shame left from that night. "He showed up before me and tried to convince me to call off the duel. The last thing I saw was Spidey rushing into the auditorium. Even after all the arguing he still rushed in and tried to help…" She paused as guilt rained on her conscious.
"That explains the extra damages and the mask fragment."
"Fragment?" Korra asked.
"Yes, there was a piece of Amon's mask found on the scene."
"Are you saying he landed a punch on Amon?" Her guilt was replaced with shock. The wall crawler did the impossible. "Unreal."
"There's no way to tell but I wouldn't put it past him." Tenzin took a shot in the dark.
"That sounds like a novel I read last summer. It was about a princess who was kidnapped by an evil spirit. It dragged her into its cave. Then a brave warrior challenged the spirit and after a long and decisive battle he finally defeated the monster and he saved the princess. Best book ever." She smiled as the scene replayed in her head.
Just then Ikki returned with her little brother. He was dirty and shirtless. It was clear that he was about to take a bath but news about Spider-Man cut his bathing short. "You saw Spider-Man again!?" The young airbender yelled out.
"She did, he showed up for the duel and probably fought with her and bead the bad guy and flew there since he can sprout wings and fly and and webbed up the bad guy and!" Ikki's tirade was ended by Korra.
"Ikki just calm down for a second none of that stuff is true! And no he can't fly." Korra couldn't get mad at her. She wondered where Ikki got all this energy.
"Spider-Man can't fly? Aww I wanted to fly around with him. Your friends with him Korra teach him how to fly!" Meelo, as always, didn't make much sense, or he made as much as any five your old could.
"She's more than friends with Spider-Man. Korra's the princess and Spider-Man is the warrior so there a couple!" Jenora said, clearly still lost in her own fictions.
"What, no it's nothing like that!" Korra's face was comical. The airbender kids were spewing madness and she tried to bring some sanity to the situation but failed miserably.
Meelo didn't react too much with the news but the other girls' smelled blood and attacked. "Korra's in love with Spider-Man!?" Ikki squealed at the prospect. "Koora loves Spider-Man Korra loves Spider-Man!" She went into a love chant. She was the same way when Makko showed up looking for his brother.
Jenora was more mature than her little sister but not by much. "Korra loves Spider-Man Korra loves Spider-Man!" She couldn't help herself and joined in on the chant.
Korra's scowled with rage and embarrassment. Her cheeks got rosy. "Cut it out. It's not like that!" This didn't stop the sisters teasing. "That's it!" Korra twirled her arms in perfect airing arcs to blow her tormenters away. Her form was perfect but nothing happened when she pushed her palms at the sisters.
The failed attempt at airbending ended the chant and initiated a fit of laughter. Meelo just stood there confused while his father had his face barred in his tattooed hand. The tow didn't have a dog in this fight.
Ikki stuck her tongue. Korra went back to her natural element and waterbented a pitcher of water at her. She didn't have enough for the both of them. Jenora laughed at her drenched sister and Korra grinned with satisfaction.
Tenzin sighed at the trio. Ikki and Jenora's actions were justified by their age in situations like this. He then thinks back to the matter at hand. 'There's more to this Spider-Man than I thought.' He told himself. He had enough sense to try to convince Korra to back out of the duel. His analysis was cut short when he felt a tug on his robe. "What is it son?"
"Dad what's love?" The boy had heard the ward but never had a clear definition for it.
"It's a mysterious and powerful force that causes us to do foolish things. And it's not something you should be worrying about at your age." His words still confused his son.
XXXxxx Police Headquarters: Conference Room xxxxXXX
The UF team and a dozen metalbending police officers sat in the large team waiting for the briefing. They talked amoungst themselves. Quan, Liu, and Yumi stayed quite while Chiko and Hanzo swapped war stories with their law enforcement counterparts.
"…You didn't hear this from me but I hear Beifong's got her hands on a secret weapon lined up for Amon and Spider-Man." Officer Song whispered to Chiko.
"Yeah I know I'm it." Chiko was skeptical of the cop.
"Nah you UF guys are just are only the half of it. Rumor is that the chief's got some big time inventor coming in and he was an original member of Team Avatar."
Chiko was shocked. A member of the team that affectively reshaped the world was coming here. "No way, why would Beifong hide that info. We didn't hear anything about that from general Iroh."
"You didn't hear about it because Beifong made sure no one would find out. Heck his envolment in Spider Slayer isn't even on the books."
"So why put it under wraps then?"
"Councilmen Tarrlok that's why. The guys on some kind of power trip with his taskforce. His glory project is eaten up a bunch of police resources. He already took a bunch of airships and a fleet of police trucks. Guess Beifong didn't want to lose this guy to that weasel snake too. Beifong got the guy working on some new equipment for us and some goodies for you United Forces guys too."
Chiko grinned at the prospect of new toys. "Man this Spider guys really something to go through all this trouble."
"You don't know the half of it bro." The door opened and Chief Beifong walked in. "Shut man she's here." The archer was going to argue but her presence stopped him.
Beifong walked in with a cart full of evidence being hauled in by a desk jockey. A second office worker came in with a projector and started to set it up.
"Yo Liu, you think this Spider-Man is the real deal?" Hanzo whispered to the large water bender.
"No way you heard the stories right. No one is that fast or that strong Han." Liu said. He turned back in his seat and frowned. He was still salty about his tour being extended. "It just aint possible."
Hanzo shrugged. "If this was sane world I'd believe you my husky friend. But this is a world were a giant coy fish spirit decimated an entire Fire Nation naval fleet in minutes. I'll believe anything after that OW!" He said when Yumi elbowed his ribs. He glared at her and she simply told him to be quiet. The chief was about to start the briefing.
The lights were dimmed and the projector came to life. It flashed crime scene photos involving the Spider-Man. Beifong reviewed all of the Spider-Man's exploits. She covered everything from the first appearance in the city to the brawl at the monument island. Her audience didn't believe the feats of strength the wall crawler was capable of. The chief showed a destroyed and warped metalbending harness. It belonged to an officer who tried to subdue Spider-Man but he yanked him forward and destroyed his equipment. The rookie officer put his harness at max torque and Spider-Man didn't even flinch. Some of the pulleys were warped from friction. The light came back on and the projector was shut off. "Now that you all know who were dealing we can move on to how we're going to beat him…"
Chiko couldn't stomach the news or come to terms with the world's first superhuman. "I don't buy it!" He stood up and made his stance known.
Quan flashed him a single eye. He was still seated and hopped he wouldn't have to pull rank on the kid. "Sit down Chiko!"
"Cap this is all just some kind of hoax, no one's that fast or that strong! This is some kind of gimmick that no one's figured out yet that's all." The archer said.
Quan was about to use more persuasive means to keep his subordinate in line but Lin beat him to the punch. She wasn't even mad at the archer. "Come down here Chiko." The archer complied and stepped down to the chief. Beifong metal bent the man hole cover from the gang fight incident. "You see this lance corporal? Do you know what this is?"
The metal disk levitated to her will and went in front of him. "Yeah it's a manhole cover what of it?"
"The Spider-Man used this in the gangland incident."
Chiko wasn't deterred. "So what those things aren't that heavy."
Lin's temper was in check for now. "Not that heavy huh, take hold lance corporal.
"Alright." He did as he was told and took hold
"I'm going to let it go now. Do you have a good grip corporal?"
"Yeah sure let it go already."
Lin grinned and released the disk. The outspoken archer almost dropped the heavy cover. His footing went back and forth until he got it under control. He stabilizes it and holds the cover up. "See…no big deal…I can hold this…what did he do hide behind it?" Years of physical conditioning allowed him to hold the two-hundred pound slab of iron.
Lin relives him and bends the metal back on the dolly. "No, he threw it at one of the thugs like a discus and with one arm. The doctors said he was holding back since the thug was still breathing. Oh he was twenty feet away by the way."
"…Oh"
"Now return to you seat" Lin didn't need to grill the archer. His foolishness was punishment enough.
Hanzo and Yumi were amazed but Quan and Liu weren't They were more seasoned member of the team and picked up on the Spider-Man's strength and capabilities. The destroyed harness was enough to convince them. "Now that we're all on the same page we can get with how were going to capture him. I've called an old friend of the families."
"Is this my cue?" An elderly voice asked from the other room.
"Yeah you're up." Lin gave her approvel and with that an old wheelchair bound man rolled into the room. "Ladies and gentlemen I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Teo." The old man waved to the assembled task force. He wore a green tunic and homely pants. He wore spectacles and his white hair was tied in a traditional top knot. His beard was shaggy. He was homely and humble looking.
The Spider Slayers were confused to say the least. And Lin shed some light for them. "This man was a part of Team Avatar and helped in orchestrating the eclipse invasion in the closing years of the 100 year war." Lin let her words sink in. This little nothing brushed shoulders with the greats.
"Oh I did my part in the war effort and I was good friends with Aang and the gang but I didn't consider myself to be a huge part of the team. My father and Aang did most of the leg work." He smiled and looked at the group to see if anyone caught the joke. They didn't respond. "Wow tough room."
A/N: Well this chapter wasn't as hard as the last one but then I had to cut it in half. But hey this update only took me a few months and I know its better then the five months between chapter 7 and 8. I had to cut a few things here and there since I wanted to save it for part two. Teo the Tinkerer got some interesting tech for the Spider Slayers and I thought I would save it for the next chapter. By the way I would like to hear your thoughts on the finally of season 3. Personally I thought it was a huge improvement over book 2. It felt like the writers didn't pull focus too much and they made be bad guys really interesting. Zaheer was a thousand times better than Unalaq. One thing did escape me though. Why in the heck was Korra crying at the end she won. Anyway till next time people!
gamelover41592: Thanks and two months for me is pretty fast. (If we're going on my update frequency.)
Glittering Turquoise: I always hear Cave Johnson or JJ. Whenever I hear JK Simmons talk lol. I'm not going to jump into episode 5 as quickly as the other chapters. The episode covered a bunch of probending stuff and turned into bending mighty ducks. I'm not saying it was a bad couple of episodes there just isn't anything or Peter to do in those episodes. This and the next chapter takes place between episode 4 and 5. We're going to learn a lot about Peter in the next chapter and I'll leave it at that.
Jebest4781: I can't tell you much about the Spider god and how its reacting to this world but I have big plans for him. Just to give you a little insight I've been sitting on a big reveal dealing with the Spider god since it came to me when I was taking summer courses in collage last year. It's going to be amazing. Thanks for the readership man.
Aztec 13: I never read the Spider-Man India comic Have to check it out one day. As for Peter and Asami hanging out, I think I covered it here. Stay classy Aztec.
White Lantern Oath 009: Those are really good ideas but a little bit out there for this story. Though this arc is a lot more Peter focused then the other chapters. It's similar to before the series started around chapter 4 or 5. And that love thing with Peter would be interesting. I will take that into consideration.
Hyper Peter: You like OC's you get MORE OC's! And I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Peter sounded a little crazy with the self thought. The earlier chapters did feel claustrophobic with Peter being alone. And character interactions really kicked off at chapter 7. Oh well, I chose the long route and I feel that the story is better for it.
Dante C. Emerys: I was like that before I set up an account for this site. Anyway the other Spider-Men wont being showing up in this story. Amazing might make an apperence here and there but the others are not going to be in the story. At least in person anyway. It's funny that you mention book 2 because right now I'm not sure if I'll go to book to or skip to book 3. There is some important events in book 2 but I don't feel that Peter has enough to do in it. Book 3 on the other hand is the exact opposite. There's more for him to do in book 3 but there's less story to be told. Have fun piecing together my ramblings friend. I'll go into further detail about that in a profile update and I might set up a poll. And don't worry about Peter having fun. Not all of the chapters are gloom and doom. Though the next one is going to get a little dark so fair warning.
HaywireEagle: I completely agree with you dude. I got a lot of spring cleaning to do when I get a chance. It'll be cleaned up before chapter 10 rolls out. Noir's spiritual side will be explained later on. I even hinted at it in chapter 7. It's a rally interesting element of the character and I look forward to exploring it more in this story. An Avatar world Madame Web…Hmmm. I also like the twin's cameos in the story. I'm not going to use them a lot though.
SpartanWarrior: Ink is so expensive! As for the old school games, Monster Ock that is all.
SeijuroRen: I can't remember if I sent you a PM or not. Anyway the mask will come off at one point and Peter's is going to catch a lot of hell for it. Can't wait to write that scene.
Guest1: I won't take that long to hook Peter up with someone.
Derain von Harken: Amon's blood bending doesn't effect Peter's little freakouts. That will be explained in later chapters. Your catching on my friend.
Coldblue: Spider-Man will go through some…changes in his adventure and I can't tell you much about them you'll just have to read on to find out. I didn't know Sandman Noir had powers I just thought he was really tough. I agree with Noir's limitations. I think when they created him they wanted to stay as close as realistic as possible when it came to his abilities. He is nowhere near as strong as Amazing. If amazing was caught in that ambush from chapter 5 I have no doubt he would walk away from it without the equalist help. The challenges are getting bigger and Noir's got a lot of growing to do. In strength and in mind.
Toni Icarus: I'm always writing. I write whenever I get a free chance to do so. The thing is I don't update more and I'm working on that. Thanks for the readership.
