This chapter might be a bit boring, but it is essential to the storyline I swear! I will find a way to make it super entertaining.
Chapter One
To Lucy, the summer went by way too long. She wanted it to be August already, she wanted to start school already, even if that's the first time she even thought that. Her summer was spent writing simple drafts of stories she wanted to write or watching documentaries on anything she could get her hands on.
She had also done tons of research on the public school her dad choose to send her to. Searching the school name and finding articles of praise and fun of activities with the school itself. One article she found was an end of the year party in May where a few local shops donated food and their time for the students. A picture she found was a group of students sitting in the grass together, having laughs and paper plates of food between them.
That's something Lucy wants. She's never had a picnic with friends, never had laughed with anyone else than her Father's clients. Some of them were nice but a majority of them were stuck up and mean to anyone they come in contact with, Lucy knew it wasn't just her, her father had told her that. These people were always angry, it wasn't just towards the blonde girl.
Now, Lucy was standing in her bedroom, staring in her closet and looking back to her dresser and back again. Flipping through clothes, moving hanger by hanger only for her to huff and cross her arms.
Should she wear shorts? Should she wear a skirt? Pants? "Ugh, what am I going to wear?" she moaned in her hands.
Lucy woke up early, but it was getting close to the time to leave for the day. At this thought, Lucy grabbed the first shirt she saw and a matching pair of shorts. It was hot out of this fall day, so beige shorts paired with a pale purple shirt to match. Then for shoes, a pair of gladiator sandals that laced up to her ankles.
Making her way down the stairway to the kitchen, hopefully, there was something to eat from the staff this early in the morning. Stepping through the threshold of the kitchen to see a plethora of different types of food. Toast, bacon, eggs, fruit bowls, and lots of others. Her eyes went wide at her Father sitting at the table nibbling on a piece of toast.
"Father?" she asked, grabbing a plate out of the cabinet before getting herself some food. Jude was never one to have breakfast with his daughter in the mornings, he was always in his office as soon as possible and then leaving right after Lucy went to bed. She mostly had to catch him during the day, often between her lessons.
He hummed before swallowing and setting his newspaper down, "Yes dear?" asking nonchalantly as if he wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary.
"What…um...what are you doing?" her plate now full of bacon and eggs with one slice of toast hanging off the edge slightly. Setting herself straight across from him and a glass of orange juice to complement the whole meal.
"Eating breakfast Lucy. Honestly, you're going to have to eat more protein if this is what you're going in public school with," her father commented, not looking towards her but to his newspaper instead and taking a sip of his coffee.
Lucy rolled her eyes while letting out a small giggle, focusing back on her food with a small smile. Today was going to be her first day of public school, he seemed to want to be there for her and have breakfast with her.
"I've arranged a car for you. They will also pick you up after school, here is his number if something ever happens," Jude spoke, sliding a piece of paper towards her with the name Taurus and his number just below it.
Nodding, then making her way out the door to the black sedan standing there was a tall, bulky man that was pale with a septum piercing with a nice fitting suit that was striped black and white, "Miss Lucy, would you like to sit up front with me?" his goofy big eyes bugged out at her that made her cringe back a bit but nodded nonetheless walked up to the car just to sit in the back seat.
Just minutes later, they arrived on the street of the school, and Fiore High was not a small school. It seemed to be made of three buildings while connected by hallways. Lucy watched several kids walking to school with their friends and having laughs, it just made Lucy smile unconsciously. Stepping out of the car and offering Taurus a goodbye and a wave seeing some teens pointing and whispering towards her.
However, that didn't dampen her spirits, Lucy was too excited to notice it.
"How was your summer? I didn't hear from you once in two months!" a girl at some locker behind a corner, talking to another smaller girl who smiled guiltily.
"I know, my parents grounded me all summer because of what I did at the party," she moaned, leaning against the metal locker beside her.
The other girl let out a loud laugh, slapping her knee in the process, "I knew you would get in trouble! I should have figured that's where you were," she laughed through the entire sentence.
Lucy walked past them with a smile as she made it to the office to get her locker number for the year. The office itself was small and tidy with one desk at the front that was oval-shaped and seated a young girl, that would have been mistaken for a student, with long white hair and her bangs clipped up the front. The rest of the office was filled with four different rooms and another oval table off to the left of the doors.
"Hello! How I can help you?" the girl asked, her bright blue eyes shined as Lucy noticed she never stopped typing as she looked at the blonde.
After getting her locker number and lock, Lucy made her way to the other side of the school, right next to the gym. All the lockers in the school were skinny, just barely enough to fit a backpack or three large books. Lucy didn't have much to place in the locker, so she turned around to find her first-period class. Her schedule said that her biology class was in 290A, she would have to ask where that was.
Her eyes found a boy and girl, the girl held his arm quite aggressively as he looked embarrassed by that act but never shoved her off, "Excuse me? Could you tell me where this class is?" Lucy politely asked, pointing to her laminated schedule.
"Is that laminated?" the boy asked, lifting his lip in disgust.
Taken back, Lucy looked back down to her the paper in her hands, "Well, of course. I wanted to keep it nice."
The two of them furrowed their eyebrows before the boy started laughing, causing the girl to let out a couple of giggles along with him, as Lucy stood off to the side, completely embarrassed. She guesses that was something weird to do. Lucy was about to leave and ask someone else when the boy stopped laughing to point to the hallway just beyond the gym, "It's that way and the room numbers are right above the door."
Glancing up at the small block right above the gym door to see it in small letters, "Oh! Than-," she was about to thank him when they were halfway down the hall now, disregarding her.
Her eyes deflated, but she shook her head, not be disparaged, Lucy painted a smiled on her face again. Once she found the class, she wasn't the only one early. Several teens were sitting in their seats and two standing in the back talking to each other. Lucy noticed a few backpacks atop the desk with no one there.
She decided to take an empty seat near the front and by the door. A quick way to get in and quick to leave yet the worse part is that whenever anyone came into the room, they had to pass her quite closely. Thankfully, Lucy pulled out one of her favorite books and begun to read quietly and completely engrossed in her book before the class could begin.
[***]
It only took 30 minutes for the bell to ring for the class to begin. The teacher then walked through the door with a bunch of folders in hand and his glasses perched high on his nose. His mustache trimmed perfectly above his upper lip and his hair slimmed back against his head.
"Hello class, my name is Mr. Conbolt, and this is biology. If that is not on your schedule, you are in the wrong class." Placing the folders down on the desk, he wrote his name on the chalkboard behind him.
After some introductions from him and several other students he passed out thick biology books to each student and Lucy was excited beyond belief for some odd reason. She witnessed some students just throw the book in their bag and immediately forgot it.
That when Lucy heard someone shout from the back of the room, "Macao are we going to be learning anything interesting this year?" turning her head she saw a pink-haired boy raising his hand high.
The boy was wearing a nice white scarf paired up with a short sleeve black shirt with a band logo and short cargo, beige pants. His smile as he laughed showed two dimples, perfectly placed on his face and Lucy had to look at someone else before she blushed.
Everyone in the class laughed at his question, except Lucy who was confused. Mr. Conbolt chuckled himself, "You'd be greatly surprised on how fun you can have here."
At the end of the first class, Lucy was kind of hoping that she would have at least one friend, but she had no time to talk to anyone. Now sitting in the next class, after trying to find it for 10 minutes and trying not to ask anyone, Lucy was ultimately elated for this class.
Literature, it was much different than the other classroom with a whiteboard instead of a chalkboard, and fewer seats than before. Once Lucy was settled, someone had sat next to her with a bored expression on his face and leaned his cheek on his hand.
Taking a breath, this is my chance. I could make a friend. Tapping his shoulder, she smiled and gave a small wave, "Hello, I'm Lucy."
His red eyes slowly shifted her way as his head stayed in his hands, "Hey," he mumbled, barely opening his mouth. Flicking his eyes from the front and back to her, "Aren't you that rich girl everyone keeps talking about?"
Flinching back, Lucy stared at the poor boy as he generally felt creeped out, people were talking about her? "W-what…a…what do you mean?" she stuttered.
Lucy had to assume that he lifted an eyebrow because his pitch-black hair covered half his face including one of his eyes, "People are saying there's a girl whose blonde came in some expensive car. Showing off her riches in school," he explained, keeping his stoic expression to her.
"Oh," was the only thing she could say, and she stared down at her desk. Maybe having her father give her a driver to school in a Lexus was a bad idea. Looking down at her outfit, it didn't seem too expensive to her but maybe to them it was.
Lucy didn't have much time left to think about this when the classroom filled up with students and the teacher then walked in, holding the handle of a roller briefcase that was filled to the brim with papers and office supplies.
The notable feature about this teacher was his long and fluffy, curled hair that hung above his head. He also wore a knitted black sweater and brown slacks. Lucy had noted that when he walked past her that he smelled a lot of smoke.
"Hello all, I'm your literature teacher for the next year and my name is Mr. Mine." He spoke as he handed out packets of what they will be doing throughout the year. "This year we will be reading 10 books and the first book we will read and discuss will be in the next two weeks. Right now, we will form a group of 3 or 4. This group will be with you all year round for book discussions."
There were murmurs around the room, of some them silently asking to be a group together and others saying it was 'bullshit'. Lucy looked around to see some group forming and she started to panic, the boy next to her was still not paying attention to anything until Lucy tapped on his shoulder again.
"You want to form a group?" he asked before she could, causing Lucy to smile apologetically and slightly nodding her head. He nodded in agreement before Mr. Mine hushed them and continued on explaining the discussion groups and what they will do.
The students formed their groups while Lucy and this boy, whose name she learned was Rogue, had one more person join. Lucy actually liked this girl; she was super excited about the book they were going to read as she talked on and on about it. Her bright blue hair bounced every time she explained a book she read over the summer.
For the rest of the class, Lucy talked with Rogue and this girl, Levy. Then Levy turned to her with her chin on in her hand, "So, you're new?"
The blonde teen chuckled with a small blush dusted on her cheeks, "Yeah, how did you know?"
Levy shrugged, flipping through the stapled packet we were given, "Everyone is talking about a new girl today. I just assumed it was you since I've never seen you before," shrugging again, giving a side-eye to Rogue who was completely immersed in a comic book he had hiding in his binder before looking back to Lucy.
She lowered her shoulders, spreading her hands across the desk, and pushed her things further, "Is it really that bad?"
Giggling, Levy patted the other girl's arm, "It's not too bad. We just haven't had a new person in years," placing a finger on her chin in thought, "When was the last new kid?"
"Lisanna coming back 2 years ago," Rogue commented, flipping to the next page of his comic without even looking up at them.
Levy waved her hand in his direction, "No not that. I'm not counting that." He sighed and shrugged with no response. The blue-haired girl sighed along with him, "Well, at any rate, it's been a while. There have also been rumors that you are like super-rich."
Huffing and crossing her arms, "Is that bad?" she asked again, honestly, really tired of being called rich.
Shaking her head and waving her hands in front of her, "Oh no, no, not at all-,"
"It's just odd and definitely not what anyone around here is," Rogue finished for her, just when the bell rang for the next class.
As everyone was packing up, Lucy thought about it, she knew that most kids here weren't as privileged as she was, but she didn't really think it would be this unusual.
Lucy thankfully had Gym next as it wasn't too hard to find out where to go. She and the other students stood in the gymnasium together when the gym teacher to show up, as the minutes passed, Lucy wondered if they were in the wrong room.
Turning her head to the loud noise that was echoed in the empty gym to see three boys fighting each other as everyone was just watching like this was normal. Lucy did note that one boy was the one that had laughed at her in the hallway and one was the loud boy in her first-period class, the last boy she hadn't ever seen before.
"Natsu! Gray! Gajeel! Why do I have all three of you in one class!" her head whipped to see a very tall and bulky man with shaggy reddish-brown hair and what was the stereotypical gym outfit; grey sweatpants and the school crest running down the side and a grey shirt to match.
The three of them stopped, watching the Natsu boy fall back as he lost his footing, and having the boy who laughed at her started laughing and pointing at Natsu which then started another fight between the two.
Lucy was thoroughly confused at this point. Was this normal?
Watching the brute of a teacher stomp over to the two, the third boy side-stepping away before he could reach them, Lucy heard a whisper to her right, "I guess this is what gym class is going to be like from now on," spinning her head, almost smacking the girl with her hair.
She was short, cute, and adorable with short, cropped, white hair that framed her face. She wore short jean shorts with a pink short-sleeved shirt that displayed a variety of heart bunched at the bottom, "Oh, um, yeah I guess," Lucy didn't know how to interact after finding out that people were talking about her.
Snapping her hand out to Lucy, she gladly shook the girl's hand, "Hi, I'm Lisanna. Who are you?"
This was odd to Lucy, starting a conversation with someone before asking their name but the blonde smiled nonetheless, "I'm Lucy. Um, are they always like this?" pointing to the two boys being pulled apart by the teacher.
Lisanna giggled behind her hand, "Yeah, they are like this everywhere, even outside of class," the blonde just groaned at that explanation.
The rest of the period was the class introducing each other, some kids answering for others that really told her that they all knew each other very well. The gym teacher, Gildarts, pointed to her "Introduce yourself and us something interesting about yourself."
Taking a second to breathe after being called on, "Uh, my name is Lucy and I like-,"
"To laminate things like a weirdo," she had heard from Gray across from her, whispering to Natsu beside him as they quietly chuckled.
Licking her lips in irritation and took a breath, "I like to write," she finished, looking down at her shoes. Thankfully, no one asked any follow-up questions and they continued on with the rest of the class.
Lucy blanked out the rest of it, she didn't want to lose her positivity about going to public school finally, so she started naming the pros of the day so far. Slowly and surely, she was back to being positive enough to crack a smile on her lips when Gajeel started shouting at Gildarts about making fun of his new piercing.
Chemistry was the worst subject Lucy knew. So, it was honestly weird that her father chooses this subject for her to take. Unfortunately, they couldn't pick their partners as they were already chosen for them. Lucy was now seated next to Natsu who was oddly sitting quietly tapping his fingers against the black granite lab table.
Their chem teacher was probably the most terrifying person Lucy had ever encountered. He stood in a white lab coat, a tight plum shirt with tight black jeans. It just seemed like this person just walked out of high school and got a job as a teacher. His hair stood wildly, burgundy-colored and Lucy had to wonder how he got that to happen.
The most noticeable feature was the long scar that ran down his right eye that was permanently closed. His name was written in the top right corner neat and cursive, Dr. Vivas.
He was going over the syllabus when Lucy noticed the two in front of her and Natsu, a girl and boy. The girl had bright and vibrant red hair that was waist deep and wearing a cute blue skirt. The boy had deep blue hair that was shagged down his head, falling perfectly across his face but he did have the weirdest tattoo down his eye.
At first, Lucy had thought the red-haired girl was flirtingly eyeing Natsu next to her but the glare that was clearly the opposite. Lucy's honey-brown eyes flicked over to Natsu to stuck out his tongue and made a face towards the girl then glancing over to Lucy for a second before looking back to the front.
Lucy wanted to introduce herself to him, but he seemed quite put off by her. Ah, fuck it. She thought before turning her head towards him with a small smile, "Hey, I'm Lucy," almost shooting out her hand to shake him but thought against it.
"I know," he muttered, flicking his eyes from her to the front of the class. He fingered his notebook, flipping the pages over and over again.
Well, that went nowhere. Lucy thought as she leaned her head in her hand, loosely listening to Dr. Vivas talk about how the class was going to go and what kind of homework they were going to have. That's how the entire rest of the class was, boring and long.
Lucy's fifth-period class, calculus, she sat next to Levy as she found her already in the classroom after Lucy was almost late by 2 minutes. They greeted each other with a kind grin when Lucy took one look at their teacher.
A small in stature with long, all the way down to her feet, platinum blonde hair that was perfectly wavy. She wore a colorful dress that hit her ankles and was almost barefoot with her lightly colored flats. She stood up on her desk chair to write on the chalkboard.
Her name was Ms. Vermilion and she seemed like a really nice person as she spoke bubbly and bounced around the room often. She then handed out a very personalized homework sheet, each of their names atop the paper and different problems for each of them. Behind Lucy, she was hearing slurs of complaints from someone that caused Levy beside her to giggle quietly before hitting the desk behind them.
"Cana shut up! You're gonna get us in trouble again," Levy angrily whispered the girl who was spread out across her entire desk with a light blush dusted on her cheeks and a loopy smile about her.
Lucy quickly looked back when Ms. Vermilion turned her back to write out a definition, "Are you drunk?" she had seen several drunk men and women at her father's parties.
Her brows furrowed, slapping Lucy's chair and hissed, "No one asked you rich bitch."
That had shut Lucy up immediately, turning back to her assignment and vaguely heard her mutter, 'That's what I thought'.
So far, this day has been, interesting to say the least. Lucy had met so many different people in her life and she didn't know what to do with this information. Was she happy that she got what she wanted with having interactions that have, honestly, been fascinating? Or was Lucy sad that she didn't quite fit in with anyone here?
Maybe not yet. It was still the first day.
Lunch for Lucy was quiet as she had it in the library, her bagged meal in hand. She thought about having it in the cafeteria, however, that thought turned into her standing at the entrance, trying to find a place to sit.
She saw Levy sitting with a group of friends, but among them were Gray, Natsu, Gajeel, and several others that had refused to make friends with her. Even the blue-haired girl, that hung all over Gray, was sitting next to him, her hand wrapped around his arm as he tried to eat.
She had even seen Rogue sitting with a group of people that she hadn't interacted with, but they didn't look very appealing to speak to.
Now, here she was sitting at a table in the library eating her tuna sandwich and munch on some chips. However, she didn't want to feel down. She wasn't going to let this keep her down. She had two periods left of her first day of public school.
History was something Lucy had no interest in. The teacher seemed nice enough but wasn't animated for Lucy to stay interested. At least she could write down some of her story plots and ideas for thing time being. Shaking her leg as she wrote down bullet points and some idea that went off the one before it and continuing on when she heard more rumors about the rich girl that was in the school, she didn't dare look back for fear to get yelled at again.
"So, who is this rich kid? Do you think they're easy to befriend? I could use some new kicks," a blonde-haired boy that had one dangling crystal earring hanging from his left ear, who kicked his shoe on the leg of his desk.
Beside him was a girl with tanned skin and brownish-black hair that was pulled into two small tresses atop her head with the rest of her hair fallen down her back. Lucy would have thought her eyes were beautiful if it weren't filled with mischief as she smiled, "I sure hope so. Being friends with a rich kid could have its benefits."
Great, now that was something else, she had to look out for when she starts to make friends. She started tuning them out as they resumed on about this and that.
In the last class of the day, Lucy was looking forward to, study hall. If she could get all her homework done in this period, Lucy could have spare time after school to do whatever she pleased.
Walking into the room, she noticed that the students that were there were all one's she's interacted with today. Natsu and Gray were in the back by some computers, arguing about something she couldn't make out. Levy and Lisanna sat with the red-haired girl and the blue-haired girl that was hung all over Gray before. Behind them were the drunk girl and Gajeel arm-wrestling for whatever reason. At the teacher's desk was Gildarts with his feet up on the desk as he leaned back in his chair.
Lucy just sighed and took a seat near the door and far enough away from them. She quickly took out her calculus homework and the thick book they were given at the end of class.
The first question that was numbered manually was calculating derivatives of the functions, y = cos4x. this was probably going to take some time to figure out as she read on through her textbook.
Minutes pass as Lucy was working through her paper when she heard her name being called, she looked up to the teacher who wasn't looking at her then she looked back to the girls, all watching at her. Levy smiled at her, "Why don't you come over here?" she asked, patting her desk before her.
Breathing in gently, glancing at each one, Levy and Lisanna were smiling to her while the other blue-haired looked like she wanted to kill her in one fell swoop. Lucy stuttered, "U-uh, no thanks,"
Levy then smacked the blue-haired girl's arm, "Juvia stop looking like that. You're scaring her," having Lisanna agree with her and calling Lucy over again to which she hesitatingly agreed.
The blonde smiled tentatively towards the red-haired girl and Juvia, "Hello," her voice was soft and shaky, but she didn't really know how to handle people anymore today but was still trying to be optimistic.
"Hello, you were in my chemistry class, I'm Erza. I hope Natsu was a good partner," flinching back slightly in confusion, taking a slight glance to the pink-haired boy behind them who had stopped talking to, she assumed, listen in.
"Why would he not be?" she asked, tilting her head.
Erza had told the blonde of how Natsu normally interrupts class to ask questions and prank the teacher. Lucy glanced at Juvia who had been glaring at her the entire time with her pale fists clenched. "Are you okay?" Lucy had to ask when she didn't stop glaring at her after 10 minutes.
Juvia narrowed her eyes and leaned forward, "Love rival," she muttered.
"Huh?" Lucy immediately asked, completely lost at who she was supposedly fighting for.
Feeling a hand on her arm, Lucy looked over to Lisanna, whipping the white hairs out of her eyes, "Don't mind her. She thinks everyone is out to take her precious Gray from her."
Nodding her head, the blonde teen smiled to Juvia, "I don't want Gray. I don't even know him yet, plus I would never steal anything from you. You seem like a very nice person," Lucy commented, touching the wooden desk under her hand.
Then the bell rang for the end of the day. Everyone gathered their things to go home. Lucy quickly texted Taurus that she would be walking home from now on before she could forget and strolled to her locker on the other side of the school. Lucy didn't notice Juvia gazing at her as she walked out.
[***]
Lucy found her father standing just beyond the doorway of the mansion with his hands behind his back, "How was your first day of school?" he asked.
She had to smile at his effort and gripped her backpack strap as she laughed, "It was great father! I can't wait to go back!"
That was the truth, she couldn't wait to go back and try again. Lucy wasn't one to give up easily.
Woooo, that was a lot of detail. I hope this intrigued some of you, I wanted to move things slow and introduce people one by one. She will have a great impact on each and every one of the characters throughout the whole story. I didn't want to just jump right into her being friends with everyone.
I hope you enjoyed it! Tell me what you think! Till next time!
