Naoto Kurogane felt his stomach drop, the moon...was broken? Was he too late? Could he not protect Japan no- the world in time? Would he also soon die? Naoto felt one emotion and one emotion only: Fear. Fear crawled at his skin, at his eyes, demanding entry into his mouth, into his stomach, into his heart, into his brain- calm down. Taking a deep breath Naoto slowed his heartbeat, his stomach stopped spinning.
'Where the hell am I?' Looking around he took notice of the buildings surrounding him, he wasn't home...that much he was certain of. This wasn't his town so where was he? Germany? America? But how? When he was warped out of the other world he was meant to be teleported right back into where he disappeared- his home. But where he was didn't matter, what mattered was the broken moon.
Deciding to take a look around Naoto walked down the sidewalk of who knows where stopping by a vending machine his stomach grumbled.
"... I haven't eaten since I was transported, have I?" Looking at what it had to offer he- what the hell were these? No Calbee, no Babystar, and not even Karamu-cho! Instead, he was given Pumpkin Pete Chips, Hot Red Dust Flakes, and a bagged cookie with the label: Remnants Sweetest. Well, he was hungry so he would go for the most appetizing in both look and quantity: The Hot Red Dust Flakes. Fishing for the 53 yen coin he looked back up at the vending machine, wait. Lien? Or was it Lian? It didn't matter, but this confirmed it, he wasn't in Japan.
Letting out a sigh of disappointment the bloodedge kindred man walked the streets once more, the cracked moon illuminating an almost graceful light. Knowing that he was dirt poor in wherever he was he could only look for shelter for the night, deciding to take care of his issues in the morning. A wooden bench sat across the street from what looked to be a shop full of oddly dressed men. Deciding that if anyone jumped him he could fend them off easy he made his way across the street-
"Hiyahhhhhhhhhh!" One of the men in the black suits and bowler hats flew out of the shop window, a girl garbed in red flying out with the man. A man with orange hair and a white suit stepped out of the shop's door, and the girl stood up and-
….
Was that a scythe?
And that small child was swinging it?
Amaterasu, have mercy on this world.
Snapping from his thoughts he took notice of the girl's combat prowess, she was...a prodigy if anything.
"Ah, shit- right!" Not wanting to leave someone in danger- ok ok...potential danger. Not wanting to leave someone in POTENTIAL danger, Naoto sprints towards one of the thugs, elbowing them in the back..but something odd occurred. A grayish light made itself known when Naoto's elbow landed, sparking itself across the thug's body.
"Look out!" A thug came flying Naoto's way, he responded by raising his leg into the air and slamming it down onto the thug's stomach. Looking at the source of the thug's demise he was met with a girl wielding a scythe twice her size- no, triple. "S-sorry!" Naoto blocked another thugs attack, punching them in the gut. "All good!" He shouted back, wanting to show that there were no hard feelings. "But can we focus on the matter at hand? Getting jumped wasn't on my list." Even though he involved himself… "R-right.!"
Digging her scythe into the ground, the girl swings herself forward, aiming to kick a thug in the face. The thug in question blocks her kick and forces her to land back. 'That was odd, all of the other thugs didn't have the same glow like this one.' Landing herself next to Naoto they give each other a nod before rushing the thug. The girl swings her scythe down at speeds Naoto would have seriously questioned had he been normal….and he wasn't normal. Placing his hand on the girl's scythe he vaults himself into a kick, knocking back and making the thug lose their glow.
"While he has no aura, now!"
'Aura…?'
Choosing to focus on the matter at hand, Naoto rushes the thug and sweep kicks him, the girl bursts into petals and rockets into the thug, knocking them out.
'Did she just use a drive?'
Before asking the girl the question the unnoticed man in the bowler hat speaks.
"You truly were worth every cent, truly you were."
Taking the cigar out of his mouth he tips his bowler hat slightly, walking forward.
Naoto gets in another stance and the girl steels herself.
"Well, Red and Black I'll say its been an eventful evening." He drops the cigar, burning it out with his cane. "... And as much as I'd love to stick around…" He raises his cane, pulling a small button that pops the butt of the cane open- aiming it at the girl. "This...is where we part ways."
The girl jumps into the air, narrowly dodging the blast that came from the cane. Naoto sidesteps it, barely dodging in time. The duo comes back to their senses to find the man in the bowler hat gone. Naoto scans the area and quickly spotted him going up an escape later to a nearby building.
"... We going after him?"
"...Yep…"
He hadn't bothered to take notice of it but her life force was...high for a human. Given that he was no longer a human it came as a surprise to find one with such a high life force- that and another energy coming from her...he couldn't pin-point it. Breaking out of his thoughts the two go after the thug.
The girl in red shoots herself towards the roof- what? It was a scythe...and also a gun? Was he still on Earth? Naoto sprints and using the enhancer jumps towards the latter, grabbing onto it and quickly climbing up it. He makes his way up and stands with the girl on the roof- whose name he has yet to learn.
The orange-haired man had his back facing the two. "Aren't you persistent…"
A ship shot up- a ship? An actual ship like the ones in his comics and games? Oh boy...Naoto was gonna have a headache after this. The door of the ship opens and the thug jumps in.
"Apologies, but this is as far as you BOTH go." The man throws a red crystal towards the two and it lands by their feet, both equally confused at what throwing dust would do. Raising his gun-cane he aims for the red crystal and shoots. Before it could harm either of them a woman with blonde hair intercepts the attack with speed and grace.
The thug hollows with laughter, taking pride in the fact that he injured and possibly killed two teenagers.
But they weren't hurt at all.
A woman with a riding crop projected a purple glyph with runes trailing all around it, it had canceled out the attack. Naoto shuddered, it reminded him of the one they call "Hakumen". The hero attacked him because he gave off the same energy as Ragna the Bloodedge, forced into a battle Naoto was met with one of his "counters". It hurt, he was lucky to have escaped.
The blonde-haired woman dissipates the shield, Naotos worries fading with it.
"Hmph."
Pushing up her glasses, the woman raises her riding crop back before swinging it forward, at least 13 purple energy shots firing off towards the ship. Yeah, it was official, he wasn't on Earth.
Stumbling into the cockpit the thug speaks to the women controlling the ship. "We got a huntress!" The thug takes control of the ship and the women heads to the open door of the ship.
The blonde woman raises her riding crop and lets out a rain of purple energy shots, the energy crystallizes and rains down on the ship. Fire heating around the women's hand she shoots it towards the women with the riding crop, she blocks in return. The woman sends chunks of debris towards the ship, they are all deflected. The women on the ship let out shots and blasts of fire, destroying the debris. The women cause pillars of fire to erupt, Naoto, the women, and the girl in red dodge out of its range. The door to the ship closes...but not before seeing the women's life force. The women with the riding crop had a high life force for a human, sitting at 13,130. The girl in Red's sat at 10,199. And the women in the ship had a life force of 12,800. The ship flies off, leaving the trio behind.
The girl in red was the first to speak. "You're a huntress…...can I have your autograph?"
Andddddddddddddddddddd they were being interrogated, possibly even prison...Naoto was too young for prison.
"I hope you BOTH realize that your actions will not be taken lightly, you both put yourself and others in great danger."
"Not our fault, they started it!." Naoto spoke, he was without a doubt pissed, he throws a couple of thugs around and this is his thanks?
"If it were up to me you would be sent home with a pat on the back…" Ruby smiled.
"And a slap on the wrist!" She slaps here ridding crop down on Naoto's left arm, he winces in pain.
"... But there is someone here who would like to meet you both." The woman steps to the side, revealing a man with a black motif, a green scarf, glasses, and white hair. He was also holding a plate of cookies...oh yeah, Naoto was hungry.
"Ruby Rose and…. You weren't on any of our files, Mr….?" Naoto wasn't in Japan and yet he was speaking Japanese- what? His thoughts weren't in Japanese? He still knew the language but it was like English had become his primary language, what the fuck? Clearing his throat he responded to the man. "Naoto, Naoto Kurogane."
"What an odd name, certainly not following any color rule."
Color naming rules? Things were getting weirder, but he was sure he had seen the worst of it.
"What's more, you have quite the arm...dare I say it resonates with me?" Naoto felt his blood run cold, how? How how how how? How did he know? He was half tempted to attack the man with an Inferno Crusader and the other half of him screamed danger, why? Because his life force was in the 800,000's. He could feel the pressure coming off of him, it worried him greatly.
"And you Ruby Rose...have silver eyes."
"U-Uhm-."
"So, where did you both learn to do this?"
Ozpin pulls up a recording from a local kingdom, it showed Naoto and Ruby fighting off against the thugs.
"Self-taught."
"S-signal Academy.."
Signal what now? So they have academies to teach you how to become monsters on the battlefield?
Ozpin raises his eyebrow at the first response, finding the second more reasonable and the first more intriguing.
"So you were taught to use an infamous weapon known for its complexity, the only other one wielding it being Qrow Branwen?"
Ruby perked up a little.
"O-oh yeah! That's my uncle, I was complete garbage before he taught me! Now I'm all wucha! And Hiya!"
Ozpin laughed a little, "No suprise there."
Ozpin sets the plate of cookies and the cup of milk on the table, and before Naoto could reach for one Ruby devoured the plate whole. He was confident that if he put his hand near the plate she would very well chomp it off.
"So what is a person like you doing trying to become a huntress?"
"Oh well, I just indhuntressesandhuntersreallycoolandmysisteryangisgonnabeattendingsoonandintwoyearsimgonnaapplyandimjustreallyexcitedsorryimrambling-!"
"Woah Woah, settle down now, I understand."
Naoto could only voice his thoughts, "How the hell?"
The woman with the riding crop's voice was sharp, slamming her riding crop on the table. "Watch your mouth."
"Easy Glynda, it was a reasonable response."
She let out a hmph before going back to being quiet.
"Do you know who I am?"
"Nope."
"Your professor Ozpin, headmaster of Beacon."
Ozpin cracked a grin, "You want to come to my school?"
"More than anything…"
'She is dedicated to this whole huntress thing..' Naoto thought.
"Ok then, welcome to Beacon."
"Wait what-"
Naoto Kurogane sat on the bed of the hotel, the interaction both Ozpin and himself had played in his mind. Once Ruby had been excused it was now Naotos turn to be spoken with.
"Naoto Kurogane, on no records in Mistral, Vacuo, Vale, or Atlas. I know you may be surprised, but I have a high status in Remnant...meaning I have access to certain things the normal man couldn't have. So, ...who are you?"
Naoto thought about the choices he could make, on one hand, his life force was extremely high, meaning he would knock him out in seconds- running wasn't an option. He could lie, but it would be risky considering the status he seemed to almost flaunt. Third, he could tell the truth and go: "Hi! I'm Naoto Kurogane! I'm a world hopper looking for the Azure and looking to save my current world that's on fire!" But considering his life force was higher than everyone else's...could he tell him? He was no Relius or Clavis in terms of level...but it was still insanely high. And this nagged at Naotos mind but he felt human...and something else? No multiple other things, as if it were other souls.
His hands were tied.
"Hm, you don't need to tell me who you are and what your goal is...yet. However, I do need to know if you seek to bring me and my students...and the world of Remnant as a whole down."
'Remnant..? So this is what this country is called? Or World? But what about Atlas, Vacuo, and Vale? Are those also countries? Or are they states, perhaps cities?'
"No sir, I do not seek to harm you or this world...despite how little I know of it."
Ozpin's eyes widened before going back to its natural gaze.
"I see, do you have anywhere to stay for the time being?" He certainly hadn't expected this, he truly hadn't."
"No.."
"Very well, you will be taken into Beacon as well, you will be given shelter, food, and any necessities. In return, I expect an answer to who or what you are, do I make myself clear?"
Naoto didn't have many options other than the one presented in front of him.
"I accept."
"Good, I will provide you with enough lien for a hotel and food to last two weeks, by then you will meet in Vale to board a bullhead to Beacon."
Naoto knew not of what he would do, but for now, he would just live.
Giving him directions to a nearby hotel and the necessary amount of lien he sent Naoto off.
Glynda stepped back into the room.
"Do you believe he's working for Salem?"
"... I have no clue, Glynda...I have no clue. Which is why we will keep a tab on him, keeping him close is the best decision.
Naoto looked out his window, the cracked moon looked down on him.
"Still putting me through the wringer, eh Princess?"
